The objective was to correlate Oncologic Fatigue Syndrome (OFS) in cancer patients with different levels of physical fitness. Descriptive correlative study, using the stratified randomization technique, which evaluated 99 patients (GF=54 [50.7±7.5 years] and GM=45 [53.7±5.0]) with breast cancer or prostate cancer. To assess: physical activity (Baecke Questionnaire); OFS (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Fatigue Scale -FACT-F); body composition (anthropometric measurements); cardiorespiratory endurance (6-minute walk test on a treadmill); musculoskeletal endurance (Abdominal (Abd), Elbow Flexion (ElbFlex), Sit-Stand (SitStand)); musculoskeletal strength (dynamometry - Upper limbs (UpLim), Lower limbs (LowLim); Trunk (Trun)); flexibility (goniometry - Shoulder Abduction (ShoAbd), Shoulder Extension (ShoExt), Shoulder Flexion (ShoFlex), Internal Rotation (IntRot), External Rotation (ExtRot); Knee Flexion (KneFlex); Trunk Flexion (TrunFlex); Hip Abduction (HipAbd)). Comparison between sexes revealed a significant difference in: waist-hip ratio (∆%=-7.37%, p=0.001); Fat Percentage (∆%=-33.96%, p=0.046); UpLim (∆%=380.83%, p=0.001); LowLim (∆%=456.83%, p=0.001); Trun (∆%=547.59%, p=0.001); ExtRot (∆%=-9.07%, p=0.001); HipAbd (∆%=-5.3%, p=0.003); Sport Index (∆%=67.68%, p=0.02); Leisure Index (∆%=37.13%, p=0.003); Physical Activity Index (∆%=25.5%, p=0.003). There was a correlation between SFO and Fat Percentage (r=0.00; p=0.003); Abd (r=0.00; p=0.018); ElbFlex (r=0.00; p=0.027); SitLif (r=0.00; p=0.030); UpLim (r=0.00; p=0.015); LowLim (r=0.00; p=0.013); Trun (r=0.00; p=0.047); ShoAbd (r=0.00; p=0.019); TrunFlex (r=0.00; p=0.001); KneFlex (p=0.033). It is concluded that the application of physical exercise as an adjuvant, non-pharmacological treatment can improve physical fitness, attenuating the harmful effects on health caused by cancer fatigue syndrome, improving quality of life., El objetivo fue correlacionar el Síndrome de Fatiga Oncológica (SFO) en pacientes oncológicos con diferentes niveles de condición física. Estudio descriptivo correlativo, utilizando la técnica de aleatoriedad estratificada, lo cual evaluó 99 pacientes (GF=54 [50,7±7,5 años] y GM=45 [53,7±5,0]), con cáncer de mama o cáncer de próstata. Evaluar: actividad física (Cuestionario de Baecke); SFO (Escala de Evaluación Funcional para la Terapia del Cáncer-Fatiga -FACT-F); composición corporal (medidas antropométricas); resistencia cardiorrespiratoria (prueba de marcha de 6 minutos, en cinta caminadora); resistencia musculoesquelética (abdominal (Abd), flexión de codo (FlexCod), Sentarse-Levantarse (SentLev)); fuerza musculoesquelética (dinamometría - Miembros Superiores (MMSS), Miembros Inferiores (MMII); Tronco (Tron)); Flexibilidad (goniometría – Abducción de Hombro (AbdHomb), Extensión de Hombro (ExtHOmb), Flexión de Hombro (FlexHomb), Rotación interna (RotInt), Rotación externa (RotExt); Flexión de rodilla (FlexRot); Flexión de tronco (FlexTron); Abducción coxofemoral (AbdCox) )). Taekwondo can develop social responses, beliefs, values, attitudes, and cognitive experiences due to its characteristics and the diversity of frequency, intensity, time, and type of application. This can facilitate the achievement of results related to physical health and cognition in individuals in the formation phases. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the effects of taekwondo practice on physical and cognitive variables in children and adolescents. This systematic review followed the PRISMA recommendations and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021293609). The search was performed in the MEDLINE (via PubMed), Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science databases. The search terms were related to the theme taekwondo, school, and students with the keywords grouped in a single Boolean phrase: “taekwondo AND school” OR “taekwondo AND students”. Studies that analyzed the effects of taekwondo on health-related variables in children and adolescents of both sexes were included. The risk of bias in experimental and quasi-experimental studies was analyzed using the Cochrane Collaboration tool and the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomized Studies - of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool, respectively. After using the selection criteria, 8 studies were included. Study interventions consisted of a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 72 weeks. There was a total of 402 participants aged between 6 and 16 years, of which 75% were male. The protocols demonstrated improvement in cognitive performance, strength, flexibility, and balance after taekwondo intervention. We concluded that the practice of taekwondo was able to bring positive responses to physical and cognitive performance in children and adolescents.

The present study aimed to investigate the relationships between personality traits and tactical knowledge of field hockey players. The sample consisted of 53 Brazilian female field hockey athletes. The collection instruments were the Big Five Personality Factors Inventory, the Self-Assessment Inventory of Tactical Skills in Collective Sports Games, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The data were treated according to descriptive and correlational statistics. Percentage values were calculated when the variables showed significant differences. The normality and homogeneity of the data were verified by the Shapiro-Wilk and Levene tests, respectively. The partial correlation test, controlled by the position of the players, was used to analyze associations between the variables. A one-way ANOVA was applied to compare participants’ age and practice time with their field positions. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the positions of the players. The value of p<.05 was adopted for statistical significance. As a result, a moderate positive correlation was obtained between practice time and age; a moderate negative correlation of Neuroticism with age and practice time; moderate positive correlations between practice time and declarative and procedural knowledge. The Openness exhibited moderate positive correlations with declarative and procedural knowledge. The midfield players had higher scores in Extraversion when compared to the defensive players. In Agreeableness, the midfield players had higher scores when compared to defense and attack. The study allowed concluding that Openness was associated with the tactical knowledge domain.

Background: Among the organic changes that tend to occur with aging, there is a reduction of muscle strength, serum IGF-1 levels and functional autonomy (FA). However, these deleterious effects can be mitigated through the practice of physical exercises, such as hydrogymnastics. Objectives: To analyze the correlation between muscle strength, IGF-1, IGFBP3 and FA in overweight elderly women submitted to aquatic resistance exercises. Method: The sample consisted of 14 elderly women (age: 68.93 ± 4.46 years; BMI: 28.55 ± 2.08 kg/m2 ) submitted to aquatic resistance exercises for 12 weeks. The intervention occurred 3 times a week, with 50 minutes per training session. Muscle strength was measured by dynamometry, including lower limb strength and right (RPS) and left (LPS) palmar grip strength. Blood collection for the analysis of IGF-1 and its main carrier, the IGFBP3, was performed using the chemiluminescence method. FA was assessed through the GDLAM autonomy protocol. Results: The Pearson correlation test presented a positive and significant correlation coefficient (r) between RPS and LPS, RPS and IGF1, RPS and IGFBP3, LPS and IGF1, LPS and IGFBP3, and IGF1 and IGFBP3. Conclusions: The practice of aquatic resistance exercises can improve the muscle strength of manual grip, IGF1 and IGFBP3 levels in overweight elderly women, Contexto: Dentre as alterações orgânicas que tendem a ocorrer com o envelhecimento, tem-se a redução da força muscular, dos níveis séricos de IGF-1 e da autonomia funcional (AF). Contudo, esses efeitos deletérios podem ser amenizados por meio da prática de exercícios físicos, como a hidroginástica. Objetivos: Analisar a correlação entre força muscular, IGF-1, IGFBP3 e AF em idosas com excesso de peso submetidas a exercícios resistidos aquáticos. Método: A amostra foi composta por 14 idosas (idade: 68,93 ± 4,46 anos; IMC: 28,55 ± 2,08 kg/m2 ) submetidas a exercícios resistidos aquáticos durante 12 semanas. A intervenção ocorreu 3 vezes por semana, com 50 minutos por sessão de treinamento. A força muscular foi mensurada através de dinamometria, incluindo força de membros inferiores e de preensão palmar direita (FMD) e esquerda (FME). A coleta de sangue para análise do IGF-1 e seu principal carreador, o IGFBP3, foi realizada através do método quimioluminescência. A AF foi avaliada por meio do protocolo de autonomia GDLAM. Resultados: O teste de correlação de Pearson apresentou correlação (r) positiva e significativa entre FMD e FME, FMD e IGF1, FMD e IGFBP3, FME e IGF1, FME e IGFBP3, e IGF1 e IGFBP3. Conclusoes: A prática de exercícios resistidos aquáticos pode melhorar os níveis de força muscular de preensão manual, de IGF1 e de IGFBP3 em idosas com excesso de peso., Antecedentes: Entre las alteraciones orgánicas que tienden a ocurrir con el envejecimiento, se tiene la reducción de la fuerza muscular, de los niveles séricos de IGF-1 y de la autonomía funcional (AF). Método: La muestra fue compuesta por 14 ancianas (edad: 68,93 ± 4,46 años; IMC: 28,55 ± 2,08 kg/m2 ) sometidas a ejercicios resistidos acuáticos durante 12 semanas. La intervención ocurrió 3 veces por semana, con 50 minutos por sesión de entrenamiento. La fuerza muscular se midió a través de dinamometría, incluyendo fuerza de miembros inferiores y de agarre derecha (FMD) e izquierda (FME). La recolección de sangre para análisis del IGF-1 y su principal cargador, el IGFBP3, fue realizada a través del método quimioluminescencia. La AF fue evaluada por medio del protocolo de autonomía GDLAM. Resultados: A través del procedimiento estadístico de correlación de Pearson, se verificó una correlación (r) positiva y significativa entre FMD y FME, FMD e IGF1, FMD e IGFBP3, FME e IGF1, FME e IGFBP3, e IGF1 e IGFBP3. This study aimed at analyzing the fingerprints of Brazilian high-performance female futsal players. The sample was composed of 152 female individuals, divided into two groups. Group A was composed of 76 Brazilian professional female futsal players, selected for convenience, and Group B was composed of 76 non-athletes for control and was randomly constituted, observing gender and age. The results show that in the comparison with the numeric variables, the quantity of ridges in the patterns of the fingerprints is significantly greater in Group A in the following fingers: Left Index Finger (MESQL2), Left Middle Finger (MESQL3), Right Index Finger (MDSQL2), Right Ring Finger (MDSQL4), besides the Total Ridge Count of the Right Hand (SQTLE) and Total Ridge Count (SQTL). When the qualitative variables were observed, in other words, the kind of pattern, significant differences were noticed between the groups, because Group A had more Whorls (W) in the Left Index Finger (MET2) and Right Little Finger (MDT5), and more Radial Loops (LR) in the Right Index Finger (MDT2). The results found in this study showed that the dermatoglyphic profile of female high-performance futsal players differs from the non-athlete population’s profile., O presente estudo teve por objetivo analisar as impressões digitais de atletas femininas de futsal de alto rendimento do Brasil. A amostra compreendeu 152 indivíduos do gênero feminino, divididos em dois grupos. O Grupo A foi composto por 76 atletas profissionais brasileiras de futsal feminino, selecionadas por conveniência, e o Grupo B foi composto por 76 indivíduos não atletas de controle e constituído de maneira aleatória, observando-se gênero e idade. Os resultados encontrados demonstram que na comparação das variáveis numéricas, a quantidade de linhas dos desenhos das impressões digitais é significativamente maior nos indivíduos do Grupo A nos respectivos dedos: Dedo indicador da Mão Esquerda (MESQL2), Dedo Médio da Mão Esquerda (MESQL3), Dedo Indicador da Mão Direita (MDSQL2), Dedo Anular da Mão Direita (MDSQL4), além do Somatório da Quantidade Total de Linhas da Mão Direita (SQTLE) e Somatório da Quantidade Total de Linhas (SQTL). Quando observadas as variáveis qualitativas, ou seja, o tipo de figura, observaram-se diferenças significativas entre os grupos, visto que o Grupo A apresentou maior quantidade de Verticilo (W) no dedo indicador da Mão Esquerda (MET2) e no dedo Mínimo da Mão Direita (MDT5) e maior quantidade de Presilha Radial (LR) no dedo Indicador da Mão Direita (MDT2). Os resultados encontrados neste estudo demonstraram que o perfil dermatoglífico das atletas de futsal feminino de alto rendimento difere significativamente do perfil da população não atleta.

Objetivo: Avaliar e comparar os níveis de atividade física e autonomia funcional em idosas praticantes de atividades. Métodos: Para determinar o nível de atividade física, utilizou-se a versão do Questionário Baecke Modificado para Idosos e a capacidade funcional foi avaliada pelos testes do GDLAM. Os dados foram analisados através do SPSS, versão 16.0. O nível de significância e erro estatístico considerados foi de 5%. Resultados: Verifica-se que as idosas participantes de atividades físicas formais obtiveram os melhores resultados, havendo diferença estatística significante (p 27,42).Conclusão: As idosas praticantes de atividades físicas formais apresentaram melhores resultados para os níveis de atividade física e autonomia funcional. The aim of the present study was to determine the degree of correlation between basal serum IGF-1 levels and functional autonomy in the performance of activities of daily living (ADL). The sample comprised 11 elderly individuals, disregarding their ADLs (age = 68.18 ± 5.19 years; body mass index (BMI) = 28.89 ± 3.44 kg/m2) and not enrolled in physical exercise programs for at least 3 months. The subjects were submitted to a battery of 5 functional autonomy tests from the GDLAM protocol and blood collection to assess serum IGF-1 levels. Using Pearson¿s correlation, we found a significant mean correlation coefficient (r) between the 10 m walking test (10mW) and IGF-1 (r = -0.690; p = 0.009) and mean correlation, but not significant between the putting on and removing a t-shirt test (PRTS) and IGF-1 (r = -0.528) and between the general autonomy index (AI) and IGF-1 (r = -0.417). The correlation was low in the remaining tests, but inversed. This suggests that the decline in IGF-1 with age may decrease ADL performance in the elderly, El objetivo del presente estudio fue comprobar el nivel de correlación entre los niveles de séricos basales de IGF-1 y la autonomía funcional para la realización de actividades de la vida diaria en personas mayores (edad = 68,18 ± 5,19 años; índice de la masa corporal, IMC= 28,89 ± 3,44 kg/m2), no participantes en programas de ejercicios físico desde hace un mínimo de 3 meses. Los sujetos fueron sometidos a una batería de 5 tareas de autonomía funcional del protocolo GDLAM y a un análisis de sangre para evaluar los niveles de séricos de IGF-1. A través de la correlación de Pearson se comprobó la existencia de un coeficiente de la correlación (r) medio y significativo entre el examen de la marcha 10m (C10m) y el IGF-1 (r= -0,690; p=0,009) y la correlación media, pero no significativa, entre el test de vestirse y quitarse una camiseta (VTC) y el IGF-1 (r= -0,528), y entre el índice general de la autonomía (IG) y el IGF-1 (r -0,417). En los demás test la correlación fue baja e inversa. Estos resultados sugieren que el descenso del IGF-1 con el envejecimiento puede disminuir el desempeño en las AVD (poner actividades de la vida diaria, o poner estas iniciales al principio del resumen de las personas mayores.

El propósito de este trabajo fue verificar los efectos crónicos de un programa regular de natación sobre la tensión arterial de adultos hipertensos. La muestra ha sido compuesta por 28 personas con hipertensión leve y moderada separados en dos grupos: Grupo Experimental (GE 11 mujeres y 3 hombres) y Grupo Control (GC 8 hombres y 6 mujeres) con edades 42,29 ± 8,72, y 42,15 ± 9,72 años respectivamente. Aquellos pertenecientes al grupo experimental, participaron de un programa regular de natación durante 10 semanas, mientras el grupo control permaneció sin practicar actividad física en ese período. El procedimiento estadístico utilizado fue el Teste-t de Student, para verificar las diferencias entre los promedios antes y después de diez semanas del programa regular de natación. El estudio admitió el nivel de p < 0,05 para la significante estadística. Los resultados permitieron concluir que el Grupo Experimental presentó diferencias estadísticamente significativas en las variables analizadas cuando comparadas con el Grupo Control. Hubo una reducción significativa en reposo en la PAS de 146,36±4,77 para 132,31±9,93 y en la PAD de 88,7±9,92 para 76,2 ± 8,84. Los resultados nos permiten concluir que un programa regular de natación provoca reducciones significativas en reposo en la tensión arterial de adultos hipertensos.
