Coastal ecosystems are vital for numerous demersal and benthopelagic species, offering critical habitats throughout their life cycles. Effective monitoring of these species in complex coastal environments is essential, yet traditional survey methodologies are often impractical due to environmental constraints like strong currents and high wave regimes. This study introduces a new cost-effective Baited Remote Underwater Video System (BRUVS) design featuring a vertical structure and 360° cameras developed to overcome limitations of traditional BRUVS, such as system anchoring, overturning, and restricted frame view. The new design was compared against a previous one used on the northwest Iberian coast. Key performance metrics included species detection, habitat identification, and operational efficiency under complex hydrodynamic conditions. Findings reveal that the two designs can effectively identify the common species typically observed in the study area. However, the new design outperformed the previous by significantly reducing equipment losses and anchoring issues. This enhancement in field operations' simplicity, operability, portability, and resiliency underscores the new system's potential as a cost-effective and efficient tool for demersal and benthopelagic ecological surveys in challenging coastal seascapes. Understanding species–habitat relationships is essential for ecosystem-based conservation. This study explores the significance of habitat characteristics and complexity for demersal and benthopelagic communities within a patchwork of coastal habitats, including rocky seabed, macroalgae formations, sandy bottoms, and a combination of rock and sand areas. Species and habitats were surveyed along the north-west (NW) Iberian continental shelf area of Viana do Castelo using baited remote underwater video stations (BRUVS). We found significant differences (p < 0.05) in species assemblages across habitats, with rocky substrates showing the highest diversity and abundance. Sand habitats showed the lowest species richness and abundance, underscoring the importance of habitat complexity to support marine life. Our study also emphasises the role of specific species in shaping the communities, identifying key species such as Trisopterus luscus, Diplodus vulgaris, and Ctenolabrus rupestris as the three most abundant in the region and significant contributors to the observed dissimilarities between habitats. By elucidating the impact of habitat complexity on marine life, our results offer essential baseline data, which serve as a kick-start point to inform sustainable management and conservation strategies for the long-term health and productivity of these vital ecological systems in the North-East Atlantic. Eight new copper(I) triphenylphosphine complexes of bulky 5‐substituted‐2‐iminopyrrolyl ligands [Cu{κ2N,N′‐5‐R‐NC4H2–2‐C(H) = N(2,6‐iPr2C6H3)}(PPh3)n] (for n = 2: R = 2,6‐Me2C6H3 (1), 3,5‐(CF3)2C6H3 (2); for n = 1: R = 2,4,6‐iPr3C6H2 (3), CPh3 (4), 2,6‐(OMe)2C6H3 (5), 2,4,6‐Ph3C6H2 (6), 2,6‐Me2C6H3 (7), 3,5‐(CF3)2C6H3 (8)) are presently reported. The complexes were prepared in good yields by: (1) the reaction of the previously reported binuclear complexes [Cu{κN,κN'‐5‐R‐NC4H2‐2‐C(H) = N(2,6‐iPr2C6H3)}]2 (D1–D6) with triphenylphosphine (PPh3); (2) the reaction of the respective 5‐R‐2‐iminopyrrolyl potassium salts (KL1–KL3 and KL5) and [Cu(NCMe)2(PPh3)2]BF4; or (3) the abstraction of one PPh3 ligand present in complexes 1 and 2 with one equivalent of tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (only for complexes 7 and 8, respectively). All complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and, in selected cases, by single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The single crystal X‐ray diffraction structures of 1, 3, and 5–7 displayed tetrahedral (for 1) and trigonal planar (for 3 and 5–7) coordination geometries. All complexes catalyzed the 1,4‐hydroboration of some α,β‐unsaturated (E)‐2‐enals with pinacolborane (HBPin), with 1,4:1,2‐addition selectivities as high as 29:1, the maximum turnover frequencies being equal to 9.9 min−1, and the 1,4‐hydroboration selectivity being favored by increasing steric protection of the 5‐substituted‐2‐iminopyrrolyl scaffold. Additionally, these complexes also catalyzed the hydroboration of an array of other aldehydes, reaching TOFs as high as 9.9 min−1. Five dinuclear copper(I) complexes of the type [Cu{κN,κN′-5-R-NC4H2-2-C(H)＝N(2,6-iPr2C6H3)}]2 (1a–e; R = 2,4,6-iPr3C6H2 (a), R = 2,6-Me2C6H3 (b), R = 3,5-(CF3)2C6H3 (c), R = 2,6-(OMe)2C6H2 (d), R = CPh3 (e)) were prepared by the reaction of the respective 5-R-2-iminopyrrolyl potassium salts KLa–e and [Cu(NCMe)4]BF4 in moderate yields. These new copper(I) complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and, in selected cases, by single crystal X-ray diffraction and their structural and electronic features further analyzed by DFT calculations and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. X-ray diffraction studies reveal dimeric Cu structures assembled by 2-iminopyrrolyl bridging ligands adopting a transoid conformation (complexes 1a and 1d), while complexes 1c and 1e displayed a cisoid conformation of those moieties, with respect to the Cu(I) centers. Additionally, VT-1H NMR and 1H–1H NOESY NMR experiments on complexes 1a–e exhibited complex fluxional processes in solution, assigned to a conformational inversion of the respective Cu2N4C4 metallacycles in all complexes but 1c, accompanied by a cisoid–transoid isomerization in the cases of complexes 1d,e. The Cu(I) complexes were also analyzed by cyclic voltammetry, where all complexes exhibit two oxidation processes, where the first oxidation is reversible, with the exception of 1b and 1c, which also show the highest oxidation potentials. The oxidation potentials follow clear trends related to the structural parameters of the complexes, in particular the Cu⋯Cu distance and the Cu2N4C4 macrocycles torsion angles. All new 5-substituted-2-iminopyrrolyl Cu(I) complexes 1a–e served as catalysts for azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reactions, being able to generate the respective 1,2,3-triazole products in yields as high as 82% and turnover frequencies (TOFs) as high as 859 h−1, after optimizing the conditions. The activity, as measured by the TOF, is in accordance with the oxidation potential of the corresponding complexes, the easier the oxidation, the higher the TOF value. Complex 1-H, where R = H, proved to be a poor catalyst for the same reactions, indicating that the 5-substitution in the ligand framework is crucial in stabilizing any potential catalytic species. A new homoleptic Co(II) complex bearing two highly sterically congested 2-formiminopyrrolyl N,N′-chelating ligands is reported, displaying slow relaxation of the magnetisation at zero static (DC) field. This compound shows a large value for the zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameter D of −42.6(4) cm−1 leading to a spin-reversal energy barrier Ueff of 85 cm−1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
