Resumo Introdução: Os estereótipos de género dizem respeito a crenças partilhadas sobre os atributos físicos, psicológicos e comportamentais de homens e mulheres. De acordo com a literatura, observa-se alguma variabilidade nos estereótipos para a categoria mulher, em função de serem associadas a uma de três subcategorias: mulher tradicional, mulher independente e mulher sexy. Este estudo pretendeu observar os estereótipos predominantes e diferenciadores de cada tipo de mulher e a formação de impressões numa amostra portuguesa. Método: Os participantes (N = 78), distribuídos em 6 condições de acordo com o design experimental 3 (tipo de mulher: tradicional, independente vs. sexy) x 2 (sexo do participante: homem vs. mulher), deveriam, com base numa descrição prévia, indicar a área profissional, aparência física e modo de vestir da mulher alvo e formar uma impressão em termos dos atributos calorosa e competente. Resultados: Os resultados indicam maiores avaliações de calor para a mulher tradicional, pouca variabilidade nas avaliações de competência e as respostas obtidas através da análise semântica conferem diferentes imagens para os três subgrupos de mulher. Conclusões: Os resultados confirmam parcialmente as hipóteses e são discutidos com base nas implicações para a literatura dos estereótipos de género. Abstract Introduction: Gender stereotypes are beliefs about the physical, psychological, and behavioral attributes of men and women. According to the literature, there is some variability in stereotypes for the woman category, as they are associated with one of three subcategories: traditional woman, independent woman, and sexy woman. This study aimed to observe the predominant and differentiating stereotypes of each type of woman and the formation of impressions in a Portuguese sample. Method: Participants (N = 78), distributed in 6 conditions according to the experimental design 3 (woman type: traditional, independent vs. sexy) x 2 (participant’s gender: male vs. female), should base on a previous description indicate the professional field, physical appearance and dress of the target woman and form an impression in terms of warm and competent attributes. Results: The results indicate higher warmth ratings for traditional women, little variability in competency ratings, and the responses obtained through semantic analysis provide different images for the three subgroups of women. Conclusions: The results partially confirm the hypotheses and are discussed based on the implications for the gender stereotypes` literature.

Today there are many and varied challenges for the training of mathematics teachers. When you think of teachers in the early years, the challenges are even greater. On the one hand, these teachers are generalists, and are not exclusively mathematics teachers. On the other hand, the mathematical knowledge of these teachers is often devalued because it is believed that the mathematics that is taught in the early years is simple and consequently easy to teach. It is a wrong belief because, despite being elementary, this Mathematics is the foundation of future mathematical constructions and contains the rudiments of many important concepts of advanced branches of the discipline. Assuming that teacher's knowledge is central to the teaching and learning process, it is important to determine what mathematical knowledge(s) is necessary to teach. In this article we will focus our attention on the mathematical knowledge for teaching and present some research results that illustrate critical points and difficulties in the knowledge of (future) teachers and that point out clues to conceptualize teacher training. La formation des enseignants de mathématiques est aujourd'hui confrontée à des défis nombreux et variés. Lorsque on pense aux enseignants dans les premières années, les défis sont encore plus grands. D'une part, ces professeurs sont généralistes et ne sont pas exclusivement des enseignants de mathématiques. D'un autre côté, les connaissances mathématiques de ces enseignants sont souvent dévalorisées car on pense que les mathématiques enseignées dans les premières années sont simples et par conséquent faciles à enseigner. C'est une fausse croyance car, bien qu'étant élémentaire, cette mathématique est le fondement de futures constructions mathématiques et contient les rudiments de nombreux concepts importants de branches avancées de la discipline. En supposant que les connaissances de l'enseignant sont au cœur du processus d'enseignement et d'apprentissage, il est important de déterminer quelles connaissances mathématiques sont nécessaires pour enseigner. Dans cet article, nous concentrerons notre attention sur les connaissances mathématiques pour enseigner et présenterons quelques résultats de recherche qui illustrent les points critiques et les difficultés dans les connaissances des (futurs) enseignants et qui indiquent des indices pour conceptualiser la formation des enseignants. Por um lado, estes professores são generalistas, não sendo exclusivamente professores de Matemática. Por outro lado, o conhecimento matemático destes professores é frequentemente desvalorizado porquanto se acredita que a Matemática que se ensina nos anos iniciais é simples e consequentemente fácil de ensinar. É uma crença errada pois, apesar de ser elementar, esta Matemática constitui o alicerce de futuras construções matemáticas e contém os rudimentos de muitos conceitos importantes de ramos avançados da disciplina. Assumindo que o conhecimento do professor é fulcral no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, importa determinar que conhecimento(s) matemático é necessário para ensinar. A presente dissertação pretende reflectir e explorar o conceito de Património Participativo e de que forma se procede a intervenção cívica das comunidades nas temáticas patrimoniais, respondendo às seguintes questões da investigação: O que caracteriza a participação cívica no caso do Futuro Museu Judaico de Alfama? Que tipo de intervenções podem ser identificadas? Quem são os participantes? Foi realizado um estudo de caso sobre o Futuro Museu Judaico de Alfama, analisando-se a evolução e todas as problemáticas do processo, bem como as entidades envolvidas no mesmo. Tem como objectivos identificar caracterizar o problema patrimonial na construção deste Museu, identificar e caracterizar a acção dos actores envolvidos, analisar a participação cívica das associações envolvidas e, além disso, integrar a estratégia do Futuro Museu Judaico com a tradição Judaica em Portugal. Foram identificados os seguintes intervenientes: a Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Associação de Turismo de Lisboa, a Comunidade Israelita de Lisboa, a Associação Amigos do Museu Judaico, a Associação Património e População de Alfama, o Fórum Cidadania Lx e o Fórum Património. Além disso é de mencionar os advogados e os tribunais, nomeadamente o Tribunal Central Administrativo Sul e o Tribunal Administrativo do Círculo de Lisboa. Foi realizada uma recolha de testemunhos (Associação de Património e População de Alfama, Fórum Cidadania Lx e Fórum LX) e uma análise cuidada à bibliografia de referência sobre a temática da intervenção cívica no património e sobre a questão judaica em Portugal. Sendo o tema desta dissertação bastante actual foi fundamental focar parte da investigação nos títulos de imprensa publicada sobre o tema e, posteriormente, efectuar um cruzamento da informação obtida com as leituras de obras científicas. Conclui-se que podemos considerar o modelo de intervenção cívica patrimonial da APPA na tipologia de participação de auto-mobilização, caracterizada pelas ações de participação nas assembleias municipais e em reuniões públicas, lançamento de um abaixo-assinado, comunicações através da imprensa nacional e internacional e pelos contactos directos com a comunidade de Alfama através da banca de rua, uma vez por semana, culminando na ação judicial que travou a construção do Museu. This dissertation intends to reflect and explore the concept of Participatory Heritage and how the communities' civic intervention in heritage themes proceeds, answering the following research questions: What characterizes civic participation in the case of the Future Jewish Museum of Alfama? What kind of interpretations can be identified? Who are the participants? A case study was carried out on the Future Jewish Museum of Alfama, analyzing the evolution and all the problems of the process, as well as the entities involved in it. Its objectives are to identify the characterization of the patrimonial problem in the construction of this Museum, to identify and characterize the action of the actors involved, to analyze the civic participation of the involved associations and, in addition, to integrate the strategy of the Future Jewish Museum with the Jewish tradition in Portugal. The following stakeholders were identified: Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Associação de Turismo de Lisboa, Comunidade Israelita de Lisboa, Amigos do Museu Judaico, Associação População e Património de Alfama, Fórum Cidadania Lx e o Fórum Património. In addition, mention should be made of lawyers and courts, namely the Tribunal Central Administrativo Sul and Tribunal Administrativo do Círculo de Lisboa. A testimony blessing (Associação de Património e População de Alfama, Fórum Cidadania Lx e Fórum LX) and a careful analysis of the reference bibliography on civic intervention in heritage and the Jewish question in Portugal were carried out. As the subject of this dissertation is very current, it was essential to focus part of the investigation on the press titles published on the topic and, later, cross-check the information obtained with readings of scientific works. It is concluded that we can consider the APPA patrimonial civic intervention model in the typology of participation of self-mobilization, characterized by the actions of participation in municipal assemblies and public meetings, launching of a petition, communications through the national and international press and for direct contacts with the Alfama community through the street stall, once a week, culminating in the lawsuit that stopped the construction of the Museum.

Kuwait’s population is expanding rapidly and accommodating this growth through sustainable urban development will be a challenge for the small emirate. This calls for a shift in current urbanisation patterns that are contributing to high levels of motorisation, public space neglect, physical inactivity and health and environmental problems.1 These negative externalities are coupled with unsustainable and profit-driven regeneration schemes that neglect the relationship between everyday behaviour and public space. Consequently, re-evaluating the relationship between urban growth and public space standards becomes vital. This applied policy-oriented research expands on the limited qualitative studies on public space in Kuwait and challenges state top-down design standards used in planning its residential neighbourhoods. It explores the impact that planning, design, and behavioural factors have on public space use. Building on the existing literature, it also adds a socio-spatial dimension to public space studies and contributes a qualitative policy-oriented approach that is environmentally sustainable and one that leads to healthier social and individual behaviour. A comparative case study method guided the investigation on two local streets in residential neighbourhoods in Kuwait with divergent urban characteristics: 4th Street, Qortuba and AlDimna Street, Salmiya. A qualitative user-centred analysis based on Gehl’s public survey tools2 was then used ‘to measure public space and public life’.3 The findings highlight that an overlap in responsibilities at state planning authorities and limited user-centred policies have hindered the successful use of public space in Kuwait. However, and as this investigation illustrates, public space improvement cannot be achieved with isolated measures. Design improvements to public space must also take into account the cultural and climatic impact of users’ social negotiations that take place in the public space of residential neighbourhoods in Kuwait. This investigation uses the selected case studies to address these different factors. The aim is to explore the impact of qualitative methods of analysis in understanding public space and to use the collected data to generate evidence-based policies that could then be applied on a much larger scale to the sustainable urban development of Kuwait. Effective urban policies and management will promote the necessary change that will help create more vibrant communities.

Having in consideration that science and mathematics can be articulated through children’s literature, this study, focused on future preschool educators, aims describe how future preschool educators’ use children's literature to create mathematical and science tasks and to analyze how future educators mobilize pedagogical content knowledge to build those learning tasks. Future educators, divided into groups, were asked to select a book from a list provided to them and to designed science and mathematics task. Results suggest that they had difficulties in designing the tasks and that many of them were closed-ended and based on behaviorist theories of education. However, there were some exceptions., En tenant compte du fait que les sciences et les mathématiques peuvent être articulées par le biais de la littérature pour enfants, cette étude, dirigée vers les futurs éducateurs préscolaires, vise à décrire comment ces derniers utilisent la littérature pour enfants pour créer des tâches mathématiques et scientifiques et à analyser comment les futurs éducateurs mobilisent les connaissances en matière de contenu pédagogique pour construire ces tâches. Les futurs éducateurs, divisés en groupes, ont été invités à choisir un livre dans une liste qui leur avait été fournie et à concevoir des tâches en sciences et en mathématiques. Les résultats suggèrent qu'ils ont eu des difficultés à concevoir les tâches et que beaucoup d'entre elles restaient sur des théories behavioristes de l'éducation. Enquadramento: Os autores descrevem uma atividade realizada em grupo de formação em medicina geral e familiar (MGF) em 2015. O ponto de partida foi a assunção de que a capacidade de autoconsciência por parte dos profissionais, sobre as suas características, competências e reações emocionais em face de cada pessoa e situação, é um dos fatores críticos para a eficácia da intervenção clínica. Objetivos formativos: a) treinar a autoconsciência das suas perceções, enquanto modos de se ver a si, ao outro e à relação entre ambos, no contexto do seu trabalho nas consultas; b) reconhecer as emoções que emergem em si, por efeito das características do outro; c) reconhecer o evoluir das suas perceções e emoções ao longo do processo relacional e comunicacional com o outro; d) identificar as suas próprias limitações comunicacionais, relacionais e técnicas, sobretudo as que derivam das emoções suscitadas; e) partilhar as diversas experiências e os resultados percecionados por cada participante ao longo da atividade formativa, para identificar, sistematizar e consolidar os ganhos de aprendizagem conseguidos. Descrição: Análise individual e em grupo de vivências tidas em consultas de MGF. Foram considerados perceções, emoções, atitudes e comportamentos presentes em cada caso e identificadas necessidades de ajustamento pessoal para ser um recurso de ajuda. Discussão: Os autores consensualizaram um modelo de análise e apoio à abordagem de pessoas e situações, na complexidade de elementos e interações envolvidos na relação médico-doente. Escolheram o polo «modos de ver» cada pessoa e situação e a si próprio como ponto de partida da análise. Discutiram possibilidades de ajustamento de comportamentos na interação com cada pessoa no contexto da consulta. Identificaram a necessidade de autovigilância e de aperfeiçoamento contínuos das suas competências, atitudes e habilidades pessoais e técnico-científicas. A atuação como recurso de apoio ao «outro» requer uma autodisciplina cujas bases podem ser reforçadas durante o internato de MGF. A aquisição de hábitos e de habilidades de autoperceção e autoconsciência quanto aos modos de ver, emoções, atitudes e gestos são requisitos neste processo. O internato de MGF pode ser um período decisivo para promover atitudes e comportamentos adequados, que tenderão a persistir ao longo de todo o percurso profissional. Background: The authors describe a group exercise performed in the context of General Practice and Family Medicine (GPFM) training in 2015. The starting point was the assumption that the professional self-awareness concerning own personal characteristics, technical skills, and emotions during the relationship with each singular patient is a critical factor for the effectiveness of clinical interventions. Objectives: a) training of the self-awareness of perceptions as manners of viewing the self, others and the relationship between both in family medicine consultations; b) self-recognition of the emotions derived from the communication and relation with each patient; c) self-recognition of the transformation process of perceptions and emotions along the relational and communicational processes with the patients; d) identification of one’s own communicational, relational and technical limitations; e) brainstorming of each author’s experiences and perceived results during the exercise, aiming at the identification and systematization of achieved learning outcomes. Description: Group brainstorming of real-life situations experienced by the authors during their GPFM appointments. Perceptions, emotions, attitudes, and behaviors present in each situation were analyzed, leading to the recognition of personal adjustment needs in order for each individual to become a better help resource. Discussion: The authors felt the need to elaborate and agree on an analytical and supportive model in the approach of people and situations, taking into account the complexity of elements and interactions that such relations entail. As a starting point, they chose relationships perceived as particularly vulnerable to them and attempted at reenacting each side’s way of seeing, in order to achieve useful effects in the adequation of their own attitudes and behavior to the interaction with other people and situations. They identified the need for continuous self-surveillance and improvement of their competences, attitudes and personal/technical-scientific skills. Serving as a help and support resource for others requires a level of self-discipline whose foundation may be enforced during the GPFM residency. The acquisition of the ability and habit of self-perception and self-awareness of one’s own ways of seeing, emotions, attitudes, and gestures are essential tools in this process. The GPFM residency is a decisive period in the promotion of adequate attitudes and behaviors that will tend to persist throughout the clinician’s career.

Congenital anosmia is frequently associated with some developmental abnormalitites; its occurance as an isolated defect is extremely rare. In children, olfactory pathologies can be difficult to determine due to their restriction to express the symptoms. The diagnosis is, often later, in sensitive circumstances. We described a case of 15-year-old-girl with isolated olfactory bulbs absense.

Introdução: As anomalias do bulbo da jugular (ABJ) são maioritariamente assintomáticas e manifestam-se como achados acidentais durante a intervenção cirúrgica. Apresentam-se quatro casos clínicos de doentes com esta patologia, submetidos a cirurgia de ouvido médio. Casos Clínicos: Realizou-se miringotomia numa criança de 7 anos, com uma massa azulada retrotimpânica. A TC e RM revelaram um bulbo da jugular alto. O segundo e terceiro doentes foram submetidos a timpanotomia exploradora. Num dos casos, no levantamento do retalho timpanomeatal, constatámos uma protrusão do bulbo jugular no mesotímpano, adjacente à articulação incudoestapédica. Este achado, correspondente a divertículo jugular levou-nos a suspender a cirurgia. No outro caso foi realizada estapedotomia, cuja TC revelava a presença de bulbo da jugular alto associado a pequeno divertículo medial. A última doente foi submetida a mastoidectomia por colesteatoma. Na abordagem do ouvido médio ocorreu hemorragia proveniente do bulbo da jugular alto. A intercorrência foi controlada por tamponamento com Surgicel®. Introduction: Jugular bulb abnormalities (JBA) are mostly asymptomatic and present as an incidental finding during surgical exploration. We report four cases of JBA in patients undergoing middle ear surgery. Cases Reports: A miringotomy was performed in a 7-year-old child with a bluish mass behind the tympanic membrane. CT and MR revealed a high-riding jugular bulb. The second and third patients underwent exploratory tympanotomy. One case, on raising the tympanomeatal flap, we verified a jugular bulb protruding into the mesotympanum, nearby incudostapedial joint. This finding let us to abort the operation because of a jugular diverticulum. The other consisted in a stapedotomy, whose CT revealed a high-riding jugular bulb accompanied by a medial diverticulum. The last patient underwent mastoidectomy for cholesteatoma. While entering the middle ear, a high jugular bulb bleeding occured. It was controlled by applying Surgicel®. Conclusion: JBA diagnosis becomes challenging before operation, leading to an inadvertent entry into the venous system.
