The Ostravice Sandstone Member was identified and described as a lithostratigraphic unit in the Polish part of the Outer Carpathians. This division occurs in the lowermost part of the Godula Formation, is underlain by variegated deposits of the Mazák Formation or directly by the Barnasiówka and Lhoty formations, and overlain by the Czernichów Member of the Godula Formation. Domination by thick- and very thick-bedded sandstones, conglomeratic sandstones and conglomerates rich in calcareous clasts, mostly of the Štramberk-type limestones, is typical for the Ostravice Sandstone Member. These deposits are widespread between the Moravskoslezské Beskydy Mountains in the Czech Republic and the Ciężkowice Foothills in Poland. The documentation of the Ostravice Sandstone Member occurrence as well as the petrological, sedimentological features, and inventory of the carbonate clasts are presented here.

The research area covers the border zone between the Central and Outer Carpathians. The purpose of this research was the interpretation of this zone based on a gravitational survey. This survey was integrated with the results of surface mapping, a deep seismic survey, and deep drillings. Three major tectonic units are located in this area: the Outer (Flysch) Carpathians, the Pieniny Klippen Belt (PKB), and the Central Carpathians. All three units contain a significant amount of flysch sequences. The lowering of the Bouguer anomaly value from north to south reflects the dip of the crystalline European Plate; in turn, the renewed increase in value correlates very well with the emergence of the crystalline ALCAPA Plate. The range of variability of the Bouguer anomaly value largely masks smaller anomalies in amplitude originating from smaller geological structures. Only three anomalies with significant horizontal extent and greater amplitudes are visible: two are clearly correlated with the Orava-Nowy Targ Basin and the third anomaly is likely connected with the thicker pile of the Outer Carpathian flysch. To separate the boundaries of geological or tectonic structures (lineaments), a horizontal derivative (THDR) and an analytical signal (ASA) were used. The Indosinian orogeny, which was regarded as the collision event between the South China and Indochina blocks that occurred in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, resulting in the formation of the Indosinian mountain range. However, the question of how many times collision between these blocks occurred in the past and during which period remains unanswered. Furthermore, the closure of the ancient ocean and the evidence of its remnants between the South China and Indochina Blocks are still the subjects of serious debate. The underlying origin of the Indosinian thermo-tectonism is uncertain. The entire region was affected by the thermal-tectonic processes in the west, caused by the collision of the Sibumasu plate and Indochina block. The absence of evidence supporting the Indosinian as a significant mountain-building event is highlighted through an examination of regional paleogeography, as well as palaeontological and thermochronological data. There is no conclusive evidence to suggest that the Indochina and South China blocks collided during the Triassic times. A plate tectonic scenario that describes the Indosinian orogeny as a reactivation event triggered by the accretion of the Sibumasu block to Indochina is favored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
