Abstract

An optimal control for a dynamical system optimizes a certain objective function. Here we consider the construction of an optimal control for a stochastic dynamical system with a random structure, Poisson perturbations and random jumps, which makes the system stable in probability. Sufficient conditions of the stability in probability are obtained, using the second Lyapunov method, in which the construction of the corresponding functions plays an important role. Here we provide a solution to the problem of optimal stabilization in a general case. For a linear system with a quadratic quality function, we give a method of synthesis of optimal control based on the solution of Riccati equations. Finally, in an autonomous case, a system of differential equations was constructed to obtain unknown matrices that are used for the building of an optimal control. The method of a small parameter is justified for the algorithmic search of an optimal control. This approach brings a novel solution to the problem of optimal stabilization for a stochastic dynamical system with a random structure, Markov switches and Poisson perturbations., Comment: 15 pages, 0 figures, 25 references

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to prove the existence of periodic solutions to symmetric Newtonian systems in any neighborhood of an isolated orbit of equilibria. Applying equivariant bifurcation techniques we obtain a generalization of the classical Lyapunov center theorem to the case of symmetric potentials with orbits of non-isolated critical points. Our tool is an equivariant version of the Conley index. To compare the indices we compute cohomological dimensions of some orbit spaces.

Abstract

We consider autonomous Newtonian systems with Coriolis forces in two and three dimensions and study the existence of branches of periodic orbits emanating from equilibria. We investigate both degenerate and nondegenerate situations. While Lyapunov's center theorem applies locally in the nondegenerate, nonresonant context, equivariant degree theory provides a global answer which is significant also in some degenerate cases. We apply our abstract results to a problem from Celestial Mechanics. More precisely, in the three-dimensional version of the Restricted Triangular Four Body Problem with possibly different primaries our results show the existence of at least seven branches of periodic orbits emanating from the stationary points., Comment: 2 figures

9. Bifurcations from degenerate orbits of solutions of nonlinear elliptic systems

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study global bifurcations of non-constant solutions of some nonlinear elliptic systems, namely the system on a sphere and the Neumann problem on a ball. We study the bifurcation phenomenon from families of constant solutions given by critical points of the potentials. Considering this problem in the presence of additional symmetries of a compact Lie group, we study orbits of solutions and, in particular, we do not require the critical points to be isolated. Moreover, we allow the considered orbits of critical points to be degenerate. To prove the bifurcation we compute the index of an isolated degenerate critical orbit in an abstract situation. This index is given in terms of the degree for equivariant gradient maps.

Abstract

In this paper we study a parametrised non-cooperative symmetric semi-linear elliptic system on a sphere. Assuming that there exist critical orbits of the potential, we study the structure of the sets of solutions of the system. In particular, using the equivariant Rabinowitz Alternative we formulate sufficient conditions for a bifurcation of unbounded sets of solutions.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First we study bifurcations of connected sets of critical orbits of some invariant functional from a given family of critical orbits. We use techniques of equivariant bifurcation theory to obtain a Rabinowitz type alternative for symmetric gradient operators. The second aim is to apply the abstract results to studying orbits of nonconstant solutions of a nonlinear Neumann problem.

Abstract

In this paper we study an index of a critical orbit, defined in terms of the degree for invariant strongly indefinite functionals. We establish a relationship of this index with the index of a critical point of the mapping restricted to the space normal to the orbit. The second aim of the article is to use the index of a critical orbit to prove the bifurcation of nontrivial solutions of nonlinear elliptic systems with Neumann boundary conditions. We consider also the existence of unbounded sets of solutions of such systems.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study weak solutions of a nonlinear Neumann problem considered on a ball. Assuming that the potential is invariant, we consider an orbit of critical points, i.e. we do not assume that critical points are isolated. We apply techniques of the equivariant analysis to examine bifurcations from the orbits of trivial solutions. We formulate sufficient conditions for local and global bifurcations, in terms of the right-hand side of the system and eigenvalues of the Laplace operator. Moreover, we characterise orbits at which the global symmetry-breaking phenomenon occurs.

Abstract

The molecular mechanisms underlying pluripotency and lineage specification from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are still largely unclear. A great deal of recent research has concentrated on the epigenetic basis of pluripotency of ESCs and studies have also suggested that the differences between various cell types may be due to differences in global epigenetic profiles. Understanding the epigenetic differences between pluripotent cells, such as human ESCs and embryonal carcinoma (EC) cells, and their differentiated counterparts may allow further understanding of the role epigenetics plays in development. Epigenetic changes are proposed to play a role in regulating both global and local gene expression through post-translational histone modifications. Chromatin of pluripotent stem cells is globally decondensed and enriched in histone marks associated with active DNA. This study shows the formation of heterochromatin during hESC and EC cell differentiation represented by increased levels of repressive histone marks. However, global transient increase in euchromatin marks was observed during early days of differentiation, suggesting the importance of permissive structure of chromatin necessary for the onset of differentiation.
