Curatorial note from Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities: The course Wasting Time on the Internet starts with this basic premise: How do you make art out of the enormity of the Web, the Internet, and everything in between? What happens if you start with the premise that there will be no textbook, nothing you need to buy at the bookstore, nothing the library needs to license on your behalf, and you simply set students loose to do what they will, and make what they can? Wasting Time on the Internet depends upon an open Internet for the students to ramble through. As such, it is a fascinating case study, as Katy Waldman notes in “Frontiers of the Stuplime,” in not just meeting students where they are but pushing them to move beyond multitasking into a mode of pure distraction and play, all the while encouraging a level of self-awareness and reflection on what it means to create art in an age of information excess, and how the Internet shapes knowledges and identity.

Abstract

Gene Beery LIFE! is the first monograph dedicated to this prolific American artist (b. 1937) who has interrogated with humour and irony the moment of aesthetic experience. What are the stakes between a viewer and an artwork? What does the surface of the canvas promise to whoever looks at it? Beery positions himself with pictures to be read, whose phrases announce the arrival, the possibility of such an experience. Behind the apparent nonchalance and sarcastic distance of his practice emerges a profound reflection on the existence of art and the role of the artist. Beery is best known for his black-on-white paintings, replicating signs, notices and announcements. The book published by Mousse and Fri Art Kunsthalle Fribourg offers an in-depth investigation of his work. It assembles more than 65 artworks and three essays, by Kenneth Goldsmith, Jo Melvin and Balthazar Lovay, as well as an interview with Gene Beery by Gregor Quack.

Abstract

The Exhibition Library reimagines the medium of art exhibition as well as that of art catalogue. Catalogues carry exhibitions through time and space, figuring as tropes for imagining arrangements and the course of works and settings they describe. However, they rarely give us a clue about what really happened, since they are often made before the show opens. Rather than documenting it, they often stand on their own, almost as if another work on display, truly as an artistic medium on its own. For this work, artists, designers, curators, poets and collectives created thirty catalogues of imaginary exhibitions. Exploring both the potential and impossible in art, the resulting exhibition library also serves as a “library of exhibitions.”

"This publication is devoted to the phenomenon of the artist novel, and whether it can be considered to be a medium in its own right within the visual arts. Visual artists create different strategies to integrate their novels into their practice. Introducing traits that are particular to narrative literature into the visual arts implies the accentuation of some features over others, such as narration, fiction, identification, and the act of reading and its protracted engagement, as well as distribution in public space. An artist’s approach comes fundamentally from the visual arts. The creation of an artist novel doesn’t differ from any other artwork. Both processes feed into each other as they evolve within the same body of works. The article discusses the issue regarding antidepressants which focuses on celexa (citalopram hydrobromide), a tablet or oral solution. In a short-term study on children and adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders, antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior. Celexa (citalopram HBr) is described as an orally administered selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with a chemical structure unrelated to other SSRIs or of tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents. Citalopram HBr appears as a fine, white to off-white powder and is sparingly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol.

The article presents information related to antidepressant drug celexa (citalopram hydrobromide). Celexa is not approved for use in pediatric patients. Celexa is an orally administered selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with a chemical structure unrelated to that of other SSRIs or of tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents. The mechanism of action of citalopram HBr as an antidepressant is presumed to be linked to potentiation of serotonergic activity in the central nervous system (CNS) resulting from its inhibition of CNS neuronal reuptake of serotonin (5-HT).
