This study aimed to determine the effect of incontinence after radical prostatectomy on quality of life and level of frailty. It is a descriptive study conducted with 107 radical prostatectomy patients who were hospitalized in the Urology Clinic of a training and research hospital in Istanbul between March–August 2021, and met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Patient Identification Form, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire – Male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ‐MLUTS), and the Edmonton Frail Scale (EFS). The mean fragility score of the patients was 7.82 ± 2.63, and 27% of them were 'Mildly Frail' and 25.2% were 'Moderately Frail'. The ICIQ‐MLUTS voiding complaints sub‐dimension score of the patients was 8.62 ± 3.48, and the voiding complaints bother score was found to be 24.8 ± 9.85. The ICIQ‐MLUTS storage complaints sub‐dimension score was 12.13 ± 3.05, and the storage complaints bother score was 36.25 ± 9.02. The ICIQ‐MLUTS daytime urinary frequency subdimension score was 2.35 ± 0.93, and the daytime urinary frequency bother score was 6.94 ± 2.17. The ICIQ‐MLUTS nocturnal urinary frequency sub‐dimension score was 2.79 ± 0.88, and the nocturnal urinary frequency discomfort level score was found to be 7.37 ± 2.19. In this study, it was observed that patients' complaints regarding lower urinary tract symptoms and their quality of life were at a moderate level and the frailty levels increased with the increasing severity of incontinence symptoms after radical prostatectomy. Objective: This research was planned in order to evaluate the attitudes of nurses and nursing students towards evidence-based nursing practices. Today, factors such as the management of information, the change in health care needs and preferences, and the prolongation of life have necessitated the use of evidence-based practices in nursing. This research was planned as a descriptive study. Methods: This study was conducted with nurses and intern nursing students. Data were collected with the Introductory Information Form and the Evidence-based Nursing Attitude Questionnaire (EBNAQ). Data were analyzed by number, percentage, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test and t test. Results: The mean score of EBNAQ was 61.25±8.105 for nurses and 61.94± 7.763 for students; The difference between the scores of the two groups was not significant (t=-.522; p=0.602). Sub-dimension mean scores of nurses and students were 29.19+0.352 and 29.56+0.524 for beliefs and expectations towards EBN, 15.60+0.218 and 15.70+0.371 for, intention of conduct towards EBN, 16.46+0.233 and 16.68+0.437 for feelings towards EBN, respectively. It was found that the place of duty, reading professional publications regularly, participation in scientific meetings, membership in professional associations, conducting research were crucial among the nurses, whereas gender factor affected the scores of EBNAQ in students (p <.05). Conclusions: EBNAQ scores of students and nurses were found to be good and there was no difference between the mean scores of nurses and students. Although the level of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) belief is high in nurses and students, the intention to practice is at a lower level. The EBP attitude of female nursing students is more positive than that of males. Reading professional publications regularly, participating in scientific meetings and in clinical research activities improve the evidence-based nursing practice attitude in nurses. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a perioperative pelvic floor muscle training program on urinary incontinence symptoms and the quality of life of patients after radical prostatectomy. Methods: This single-center, parallel-group, randomized, controlled study was conducted with a total of 60 patients undergoing open radical prostatectomy in a training and research hospital in Turkey. Patients were randomly assigned to the pelvic floor muscle training group (n = 30) and the control group (n = 30). The data were collected by face-to-face and phone interviews following surgery at seven days after removal of the urethral catheter (baseline) and 3 months using the Patient Information Form, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form and the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire for Male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Independent-samples t -test, and paired-samples test were used to analyze the data. Primary and secondary endpoints were the differences between groups in terms of both scale scores after 3 months. Findings: After 3 months, Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form scores (P < 0.001) and "voiding, incontinence, frequency, nocturia" symptoms scores (P < 0.001) were significantly lower in the pelvic floor muscle training group, and quality of life scores were higher than in the control group (P < 0.001). Conclusion: According to this study, the perioperative pelvic floor muscle training program was effective on patients' urinary incontinence symptoms and quality of life 3 months after radical prostatectomy. Background: During the COVID‐19 pandemic, intensive care nurses may experience ethical issues related to fear of transmission, limited resources, and increased workload. Nurses' moral sensitivity and courage may have a role in dealing with these problems. Aim: The purpose of this study was to assess intensive care nurses' moral sensitivity and moral courage during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Design: Descriptive cross‐sectional survey. Methods: A total of 362 nurses working in the intensive care units of pandemic hospitals in Turkey participated in the study between January and March 2021. Data were obtained using a personal information form, the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire, and the Nurses' Moral Courage Scale. A link to the online data collection tools was sent to the management of participating institutions, who forwarded it to nurses. Reporting followed the CHERRIES guidelines. Results: In this study, the response rate of nurses was 89%. The nurses' total mean moral sensitivity score was 90.70 ± 28.89 and their mean moral courage score was 82.08 ± 13.51. A weak inverse correlation was found between the nurses' moral sensitivity and moral courage scores (r = −.176, p =.001). Total moral sensitivity score differed significantly according to years of Intensive care unit (ICU) experience (p =.007). Total moral courage scores increased significantly with education level (p =.012), years of nursing experience (p =.016), and willingness to work in the ICU (p <.001). Conclusion: The study suggests that nurses working in the intensive care unit during the pandemic had moderate moral sensitivity and high levels of moral courage. Nurses' sociodemographic characteristics and ICU work conditions may affect their moral sensitivity and moral courage. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting psychological symptoms and hope level in patients diagnosed with coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 156 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who were treated in the pandemic ward of a training and research hospital between January and March 2021. Patient data were collected using a patient information form, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), and the Dispositional Hope Scale (DHS). Results: The mean Global Severity Index score of the BSI was 0.45±0.36, the mean Positive Symptom Total (PST) score was 12.98±9.23, the mean Positive Symptom Distress Index score was 1.78±0.5, and the mean DHS total score was 46.42±9.41. Regression analysis yielded a significant cause and effect relationship between education status and anxiety disorder (F=7.953; p=0.005) as well as a relationship between age, gender, education level, income, and the presence of chronic disease and the total hope score (F=3.158; p=0.010). There was a statistically significant negative correlation between the mean DHS score and the mean PST score (r=-0.262; p=0.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed that overall, the patients displayed minimal psychological symptoms and a high level of hope. Age, gender, education, income, and the presence of chronic disease affected the hope level, while education had an effect on the level of anxiety. The hope level of the COVID-19 patients studied decreased as psychological symptoms increased. The development and implementation of psychological interventions to increase the hope level of these patients and the general public is recommended as a preventive and strengthening measure. Background: Physical and emotional conditions of patients treated in an intensive care unit (ICU) may be adversely affected by environmental stressors. Aims and objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between patients' anxiety and depression levels and environmental stressors in the ICU. Design: This was a descriptive cross‐sectional study. Methods: The study was conducted between June 2018 and April 2019 with 150 patients treated in the ICUs of a training and research hospital. Patient information form and ICU environmental stressors and hospital anxiety and depression scales were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics, t‐test, one‐way analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used to evaluate the data. Results: The mean hospital anxiety score of the patients in ICUs was 11.1 ± 2.7, and 77.3% of patients were at risk for anxiety (10‐point cut‐off). The mean hospital depression score was 10.6 ± 3.3, and 94% of patients were at risk for depression (7‐point cut‐off). The mean score of environmental stressors was 123.9 ± 13.1. A moderate positive correlation between hospital anxiety and hospital depression (r =.63, P <.001) and a weak negative correlation between environmental stressors and hospital anxiety (r = −.24, P =.003) were found. However, no significant correlation between environmental stressors and hospital depression was found (r = −.13, P =.12). Conclusion: According to this study, the environmental stressors in the ICU were high, and the patients were at risk of anxiety and depression. The depression levels of the patients increased along with their anxiety levels. As environmental stressors increased, hospital anxiety levels of the patients decreased. However, there was no significant relationship between environmental stressors and patients' hospital depression levels. Background: In order to help employees in the workplace work efficiently and effectively within the team, nurse managers should have leadership behaviours that will increase the motivation of nurses. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of leadership behaviours of nurse managers on work motivation of nurses. Method: This descriptive study was conducted with 153 nurses in total working in surgical (n=82) and internal (n=71) units of a training and research hospital in Istanbul between January and February 2019. The data of the study was collected with Individual Information Form, Leadership Behaviour Scale and Nurses' Work Motivation Scale. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T-test, One Way Analysis of Variance, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test and Spearman's correlation test were used. Results: The mean age of the nurses participating in the study was found as 26.68±4.54. It was determined that 53.6% of the nurses have voluntarily chosen their profession, 86.3% liked their job and 96.7% were affected by the leadership behaviours of the nurse managers. For the qualities a nurse manager should obtain, 98% of the nurses stated that they should value the thoughts of the employees in the team and 96.7% of the nurses claimed that they should direct the team and should treat everyone equally. It was found that the mean scores of leadership behaviour (4.15±0.47) and work motivation (66.06±6.14) perceived by the nurses participating in the study from the nurse managers were high. There is a moderate, significant and positive relationship between managers' leadership behaviour and nurses' work motivation (r=0,504, p<0,001). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, leadership behaviours and work motivation levels of nurse managers are quite high. Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of structured verbal training and web-based training methods given to operating room nurses on the Surgical Safety Checklist. Methods: This randomized experimental study was conducted between June and August 2018 with fifty nurses working in the operating room unit of a private hospital in Istanbul, Turkey. The participants were divided into two equal groups: structured verbal training and web-based training by simple randomization method. The data were collected as the Pre-test and Post-test in the form of a Questionnaire prepared by the researchers using the literature on the Surgical Safety Checklist and the Personal Information Form. Post-test was performed 3 weeks after structured verbal training and web-based training methods. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 program. Number, percentage, median, minimum, maximum, Chi-Square test, Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon test were used to evaluate the data. Results: Sixty percent of structured verbal training group and ninety two percent of web-based training group were women. A statistically significant difference was found between structured verbal training and web-based training in terms of gender, educational levels and working time in the operating room (p <0.05). While there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups before and after training given to the operating room nurses related to the Surgical Safety Checklist (p >0.05), there was a statistically significant difference between the Pre-test and Post-test in both groups (p <0.05). Conclusion: According to this study, there was no difference between structured verbal training and web-based training methods given to operating room nurses on the Surgical Safety Checklist; however, both training methods were found to be effective. Background & Objectives: To investigate whether the operations of Type 1 hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy performed for benign reasons have any effect on sexual life and levels of depression. Method: This is a multi-center, comparative, prospective study. Healthy, sexual active patients aged between 40 and 60 were included into the study. Data was collected with the technique of face-to-face meeting held three months before and after the operation by using the demographic data form developed by the researchers i.e.the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Beck Depression Scale (BDS). Results: In the post-operative third month, there was an improvement in dysuria in terms of symptomatology (34% and 17%, P<0.001), while in FSFI (41.47±25.46 to 34.20±26.67, P<0.001) and BDS (12.87±11.19 to 14.27±10.95, P=0.015) there was a deterioration. For FSFI, 50-60 age range, extended family structure; and for BDS, educational status, not working and extended family structure were statistically important confounding factors for increased risk in the post-operative period. Conclusion: While hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy performed for benign reasons brought about short-term improvement in urinary problems after the operation for sexually active and healthy women, they resulted in sexual dysfunction and increase in depression. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of internet information pollution on levels of surgical fear among patients undergoing surgery., Design: Observational study., Methods: This study was conducted with 407 patients scheduled for surgery in the surgical wards of a university hospital. Data were collected preoperatively using a patient information form, the Internet Information Pollution Scale, and the Surgical Fear Questionnaire., Findings: A very weak positive correlation was found between total internet information pollution score and total surgical fear score (r = 0.184; P < .001). In regression analysis of the impact of internet information pollution on total surgical fear score, the regression model was significant (F = 13.183; P < .001), with 2.9% of the total change in surgical fear score explained by the total internet information pollution score (R 2 = 0.029)., Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the information pollution surgical patients encounter on the internet may increase their surgical fear. This research was conducted to determine the effect of computer-based discharge training on patients with lumbar disc surgery on self-care agency and independence in daily living activities. A randomized controlled study was conducted on 60 patients, 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Computer-based lumbar disc surgery discharge training and a CD containing the training content were given to the intervention group after the surgery, whereas the control group received routine discharge training in the ward. The data of the study were collected using a Patient Information Form, the modified Barthel Index, and the Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale. The increase in the modified Barthel Index and Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale scores after training in the intervention and control groups were statistically significant (P < .001). The increase in Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale scores after the training was found to be higher in the intervention group than in the control group. There was no difference between the modified Barthel Index mean scores before and after the training between the groups (P > .05). Objectives: Poisoning is a crucial public health problem which needs serious approach and response to treatment. In case of poisoning, proper first aid is lifesaving and application should be applied in every condition. This research was conducted in order to evaluate first aid knowledge of university students for poisoning., Methods: The research was conducted between the dates of May 2013-June 2013 with the permission gained from the University Rectorship. The cohort of the research contained 4,560 students who received education in Istanbul. The sample of the study included 936 students who accepted to participate in the research and attended the school during the research. The data were collected by using a questionnaire form, which had 21 questions prepared by researchers. Analysis of the data was carried out with a percentage evaluation method and chi square tests in a computer environment., Results: In our study, 92.6% of students (n=867) knew the phone number of the ambulance in case of emergency. In addition, 57.3% of students (n=536) knew the phone number of the poison hotline, and it was seen that they answered correctly the questions regarding the relation between body system and indications of poisoning. It was determined that the students who received education in medical departments answered the questions correctly more than the students who had education in other departments. (p≤0.001, p≤0.01)., Conclusions: It was observed that the university students in medical departments had more first aid knowledge on poisoning cases compared to the students in other departments who did not have sufficient information regarding these issues. It is thought that first aid education in all departments of universities, both poisoning and other first aid issues, should be conveyed to all students.
