Abstract Pharmaceutical formulations are increasingly based on drug nanoparticles or carrier nanoparticles encapsulating drugs or mRNA molecules. Sizes and monodispersity of the nanoparticles regulate bioavailability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacology. Microfluidic mixers promise unique conditions for their continuous preparation. A novel microfluidic antisolvent precipitation device was realized by two-photon-polymerization with a mixing channel in which the organic phase formed a sheet with a homogeneous thickness of down to 7 μm completely wrapped in the aqueous phase. Homogeneous diffusion through the sheet accelerates mixing. Optical access was implemented to allow in-situ dynamic light scattering. By centering the thin sheet in the microchannel cross-section, two important requirements are met. On the one hand, the organic phase never reaches the channel walls, avoiding fouling and unstable flow conditions. On the other hand, in the sheet positioned at the maximum of the parabolic flow profile the nanoparticle velocities are homogenized which enables flow-compensated Dynamic Light Scattering (flowDLS). These unique features allowed in-situ particle size determination for the first time. Monitoring of lipid nanoparticle precipitation was demonstrated for different rates of solvent and antisolvent flows. This breakthrough innovation will not only enable feedback control of nanoparticle production but also will provide new insights into the dynamics of nanoparticle precipitation.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare but potentially lethal infection of the skin and soft tissue, commonly seen in the perianal and gluteal regions. Concomitant diabetes is a predisposing factor. Primary necrotizing fasciitis of the breast is rare in healthy women. In this article, we present a very rare case of breast necrotizing fasciitis in the context of the literature. We report the case of a 35-year-old female patient who had given birth two months prior to admission and developed necrotizing fasciitis of the breast during lactation. The patient presented to the emergency department with sepsis. Examination revealed widespread erythema, dark discoloration, edema, and necrotic areas indicative of wet gangrene and crepitation in the left breast. Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapid and aggressive disease that can be fatal, and delayed diagnosis may unfortunately result in death. Therefore, careful evaluation of all suspected cases, especially for patients with risk factors, is crucial for early diagnosis and timely treatment. This case highlights the importance of recognizing necrotizing fasciitis of the breast in lactating women to ensure prompt and appropriate management, potentially saving lives.

Abstract Background This study aimed to investigate the range of angles and depths necessary for effective entry into the TMJ using CBCT images, focusing on classical Holmlund Hellsing points and a two-needle approach. Methods A retrospective cohort of CBCT images from January 2020 to November 2023 was analysed using 3D analysis to determine the variance in the required angles and depths. Results The average age of the 68 participants included in the study was 29.5 ± 11.1, 58.8% of the participants were female and 41.2% were male. The anterior needle measurements showed a relatively low standard deviation(SD) in depth(SD:3.6) with a low variance coefficient(12.5%), whereas the axial and coronal angles exhibited greater variability(SD:9.1 and 7.6, respectively). For the posterior needles, moderate SDs in depth(SD:3.5) and greater variabilities in axial and coronal angles(SD:9.6 and 5.3, respectively) were observed. A weak negative correlation was observed between the axial angle of the posterior needle and age(p: 0.028, Pearson r: -0.29) Anterior needle depth (p:0.037) and posterior needle axial angle(p:0.014) were greater in males than females. The anterior needle depth in patients with temporamandibular disease was greater than in those without(p:0,03). Conclusion There were significant differences in the angle measurements for both anterior and posterior needles, but lower variance in depth. The depths and angles of the needles did not correlate with age.

In line with the aim of drying food products of high quality in the shortest time and with the least energy consumption, in this study, peach slices of three different thicknesses were dried in three different dryer types. The drying of peaches was carried out using a solar energy drying system, a thermal energy storage solar dryer, and a dryer with a heat pump. The drying performances of peach slices of three different thicknesses were investigated. SMER, MER, and SEC values, which relate to the amount of removed moisture and the amount of consumed energy at the end of the drying studies, were calculated. Food analyses, such as moisture, color, texture, and water activity were performed. Considering the amount of energy consumed, it is seen that the heat pump system consumes more energy than the solar energy system. In addition, by using the heat storage system, the drying time is shortened and the energy consumption is reduced. A decrease in SEC values was observed with the activation of the heat storage solar dryer.

Abstract We developed a video-based tool to quantitatively assess the Glabellar Tap Reflex (GTR) in patients with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (iPD) as well as healthy age-matched participants. We also video-graphically assessed the effect of dopaminergic medication on the GTR in iPD patients, as well as the frequency and blinking duration of reflex and non-reflex blinks. The Glabellar Tap Reflex is a clinical sign seen in patients e.g. suffering from iPD. Reliable tools to quantify this sign are lacking. Methods: We recorded the GTR in 11 iPD patients and 12 healthy controls (HC) with a consumer-grade camera at a framerate of at least 180 images/s. In these videos, reflex and non-reflex blinks were analyzed for blink count and blinking duration in an automated fashion. Results: With our setup, the GTR can be extracted from high-framerate cameras using landmarks of the MediaPipe face algorithm. iPD patients did not habituate to the GTR; dopaminergic medication did not alter that response. iPD patients’ non-reflex blinks were higher in frequency and higher in blinking duration (width at half prominence); dopaminergic medication decreased the median frequency (Before medication—HC: p

Mortality resulting from interactions with fishing gears represent an important threat to sensitive species globally. In this study, we address this issue by defining five species groups of marine megafauna (marine mammals, seabirds, demersal and pelagic elasmobranchs, and sea turtles), and conducting a productivity-susceptibility analysis (PSA) within the context of data-limited fisheries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Although there are significant differences among species within each group, this approach has been considered much more direct and functional for management purposes. The productivity (P) of each species group was determined by evaluating a set of attributes averaged across representative species within each group. Species groups’ susceptibility (S) to bycatch was assessed through a comprehensive review of existing literature and expert judgment, considering a series of semi-quantitative attributes. Our analysis identified areas and fishing gears posing potential risks to the species groups assessed, highlighting that sea turtles and elasmobranchs face the potential risk of incidental captures from various fishing gears operating in both neritic (bottom trawls, set nets and bottom longlines) and pelagic (drifting longlines) environments. Marine mammals exhibit moderate risk across most fishing gears, with particular concern for the harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena relicta in the Black Sea, primarily due to the interaction with set nets, which can severely impact entire population even capturing few specimens due the species low productivity. Seabirds face reduced impact with fishing activities, irrespective of the type of gear examined or the specific area under investigation. Overall, our study highlights the specific basins and fishing gears requiring focused management measures, mitigation strategies, and enhanced monitoring activities to mitigate the impacts of bycatch on vulnerable marine megafauna.

The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of P4C implementations on children's perceptions of moral and social rules. The study was carried out with a total of 48 children aged five years old, 23 of them in the experimental group and 25 of them in the control group, attending a public school in the 2023–2024 academic years. A quasi-experimental design was used in the research, and the fully mixed sequential equal status design, one of the mixed research typologies, was applied. The Preschool Children's Conceptions of Moral and Social Rules Scale was applied in the quantitative dimension of the research, and observation, interviews, and anecdotal records constituted the qualitative data collection dimension. Briefly, after the implementation process, the experimental group's perception of moral and social norms improved. In the current study, a substantial difference between the children's moral rule and social rule perceptions after the P4C sessions was discovered when the experimental group's moral rule and social rule perception scale scores were analyzed before and after the implementation. A noticeable improvement in cognitive and social-emotional development was seen. It was determined that positive behaviors improved, particularly in moral situations requiring tolerance, in the experimental group. The study came to the conclusion that teaching children philosophy helps them enhance their critical thinking skills.

In modern industrial production, robotic assembly systems play a crucial role. As robots take on more tasks, the need for formal methods arises to define, control, and execute these tasks. This paper introduces a comprehensive approach to designing and generating control code for robotic assembly systems, taking task sequence planning into account. This methodology utilizes Petri nets (PNs) as a formal modeling and synthesis tool for the controller. Initially, the task sequences for assembly operations are represented using PN formalism. Supervisors are then synthesized for task sequence control specifications. Finally, the control code is obtained by the proposed methodology for industrial robots. By implementing this supervisory control structure, real-time control of the robotic assembly system is achieved. Experimental studies were conducted using an assembly cell equipped with an industrial robot. This methodology bridges the gap between the design and implementation of formal controllers for industrial robots. The proposed approach integrates formal methods into robot programming to leverage several advantages, including correctness assurance, complexity handling, improved documentation and clarity, enhanced safety and reliability, property verification, and scalability.

Digital image correlation (DIC) was used to examine the strain distribution of heat-treated beech and Uludag fir woods in mechanical testing. It also evaluated the effects of the heat treatment process on the properties of the wood samples. The physical (mass/density loss, dimensional stability, color change, and surface roughness), mechanical (flexure test and compressive strength), morphological, thermal, and structural properties of the heat-treated wood were examined. It was determined that the heat treatment parameters can be optimized using the DIC method. The test results showed that although heat treatment can provide improved physical and thermal properties, it caused micro-crack formations and collapses in the wood cells. As a consequence, the mechanical properties of the heat-treated wood materials decreased with the heat treatment process. There were slight differences in the curves of the samples according to Fourier infrared and X-ray diffraction analyses. Morphological characterization showed that the heat treatment triggered large cracks in the cell wall and lumens and the morphological structure of heat-treated wood was affected at large percentages.

Wood has many uses as raw material and after being processed. Since the use of wood as raw material is limited, the interaction of physical and chemical processes with technological developments has led to new products and new areas of use. Transparent wood production, for example, has emerged to provide maximum efficiency from heat and light. In this study, sodium chlorite and deep eutectic solvents (DES) obtained from choline chloride and lactic acid were used. In the production of transparent wood, 1- and 2-mm thick beech wood veneers (Fagus orientalis L.) and two-component transparent epoxy resin were used as filler. As a result of delignification processes, the highest delignification rate was obtained with 59 % in wood samples treated with NaClO2. Transparent wood production was obtained from the samples where the most delignification took place. The adhesion of the epoxy used in the production of transparent wood in the wood cells was determined by SEM analysis. The tensile strength of the transparent wood samples increased by 31 % compared with the control samples. The study results contribute to the literature on the efficiency of different delignification methods.

Deadlock/livelock problems can cause catastrophic results in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) by forcing them to stop production processes at an unpredictable stage of production. Therefore, they must be handled properly in order to obtain flawless production in FMS. Petri net (PN) based deadlock/livelock studies for FMS have been widely carried out to obtain live PN models. When a PN model is live, this ensures that the modelled FMS is deadlock-free. Firstly, an uncontrolled (plant) PN model is constructed for the FMS suffering from deadlocks/livelocks. Then reachability graph (RG) analysis of this PN model is carried out to provide all possible reachable states of the modelled system. An RG of a PN model of an FMS suffering from deadlock/livelock problems can be split into the live zone (LZ) and the deadlock zone (DZ). The former is the set of system states considered to be legal (good), while the latter is the set of system states regarded to be illegal (bad). The LZ represents the optimal (maximally permissive) system behavior that must be provided by an optimal control policy. Generally, in PN based liveness studies, a liveness enforcing supervisor (LES) consisting of a set of control places (CP) is computed. Then the controlled (closed-loop) PN model is obtained by merging the plant PN model and the LES. If the number of reachable live states of the controlled PN model is the same as the ones that exist in the LZ, then the controlled model is optimal. Otherwise, it is suboptimal. The greater the number of live reachable states of the RG, the more products to be produced within the FMS. Therefore, the number of reachable live states of the controlled PN model is considered as a quality measure. It defines the behavioral permissiveness of the controlled model. In the literature, to verify the behavioral permissiveness of the PN models, the PN tool called INA (Integrated Net Analyzer) has been widely used. Recently, by means of INA, a method was proposed to compute the number of states within the LZ and the DZ of a given PN model suffering from deadlocks/livelocks. Unfortunately, INA cannot compute RGs of large PNs having a few millions of states. Therefore, in this paper by means of TINA (TIme petri Net Analyzer), an alternative faster and much more efficient method is proposed for the computation of the number of states within the LZ and the DZ for PN models with large RGs. In addition, in order to enable the development of new PN based deadlock prevention methods, further computations are also proposed. These include the computation of the set of states in the DZ, LZ and first met bad markings (FBMs) for a given PN model suffering from deadlocks/livelocks. Objective: Epstein-Barr Virus-Associated Smooth Muscle Tumor (EBV-SMT) is a rare tumor with a higher rate of occurrence in unusual locations in the setting of immunodeficiency. In this study, we evaluated a cohort of ordinary leiomyosarcomas (LMS) for the presence of EBV and described the clinicopathological features deviating from routinely diagnosed cases of EBV-SMT. Material and Method: The sections of tissue microarrays including 93 classical LMS occurring in various locations were hybridized with EBER and stained for LMP1 antibody using the Leica Bond Autostainer. EBV real-time PCR assay was performed in 2 EBER-positive cases. Results: Among the 93 LMS cases, 2 non-uterine cases (2.2%) were positive for EBER and negative for LMP1, and were referred to as `EBV-positive LMS`. Both were females in their 6th decade without immunosuppression. EBV real-time PCR assay revealed the presence of EBV in one of the cases. Tumors were located in the pancreas and chest wall. Morphologically, tumors were rather myxoid, multinodular, and composed of long fascicles of spindle cells with intermediate- to high-grade features. High mitotic activity and focal necrosis were present, whereas no accompanying lymphocytes were detected. One of the patients developed metastatic disease after 3 years. Conclusion: EBV-positive LMS occurring in immunocompetent patients has features distinct from classical EBV-SMT seen in immunosuppressed patients.

Abstract Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis is often used to estimate human health and fitness status. More specifically, a range of parameters that express the variability in beat-to-beat intervals are calculated from electrocardiogram beat detections. Since beat detection may yield erroneous interval data, these errors travel through the processing chain and may result in misleading parameter values that can lead to incorrect conclusions. In this study, we utilized Monte Carlo simulation on real data, Kolmogorov–Smirnov tests and Bland–Altman analysis to carry out extensive analysis of the noise sensitivity of different HRV parameters. The used noise models consider Gaussian and student-t distributed noise. As a result we observed that commonly used HRV parameters (e.g. pNN50 and LF/HF ratio) are especially sensitive to noise and that all parameters show biases to some extent. We conclude that researchers should be careful when reporting different HRV parameters, consider the distributions in addition to mean values, and consider reference data if applicable. The analysis of HRV parameter sensitivity to noise and resulting biases presented in this work generalizes over a wide population and can serve as a reference and thus provide a basis for the decision about which HRV parameters to choose under similar conditions.

Abstract Objectives Olfactory training (OT) has emerged as a first‐line therapeutic approach to the management of olfactory dysfunction. Conventional OT (COT) involves the systematic home‐based exposure to four distinct odors. Previous research has demonstrated that immersive OT (IOT) involving full‐body exposure to dozens of distinct odors could also improve overall olfactory function. This study compared IOT and COT in terms of efficacy. Methods A total of 60 patients were enrolled and assigned to three groups. The IOT group (n = 25) underwent immersive exposure to 64 odors once daily in a specialized theater. COT participants (n = 17) sniffed four typical odors in a set of four jars twice daily at home. A control group (n = 18) underwent passive observation. Olfactory function was assessed before and after training. Results Significant improvements in composite threshold‐discrimination‐identification (TDI) scores were observed after training in both the IOT (mean difference = 2.5 ± 1.1. p = .030) and COT (mean difference = 4.2 ± 1.3, p = .002) groups. No changes were observed in the control group. A significantly higher proportion of patients in the COT group (41%) presented improvements of clinical importance (TDI ≥5.5) compared to the controls (p = .018). The improvements attained in the IOT group (20%) were less pronounced (p = .38). Conclusion While IOT did not exhibit the same efficacy as COT in restoring olfactory function, it still demonstrated promising outcomes. Future efforts to advance olfactory recovery should focus on cross‐modal integration. Level of Evidence Level 3.

Abstract Fault structure reconstruction is an important aspect of magnetic prospecting as it contributes to understanding tectonic history, hazard assessment, and infrastructure planning. Metaheuristics have proven useful in estimating fault structure parameters from geophysical anomalies. Recently, a modified version of the Backtracking Search Optimization Algorithm (BSA), named mBSA, has been proposed that combines mutation steps of BSA and Differential Evolution (DE) algorithms to achieve a better balance between exploration and exploitation. Here, we present imBSA as an efficient approach that builds on the improvements of mBSA. It uses an adaptive amplitude control factor in the mutation step derived from a normally distributed random number obtained via an exponential function. The performances of these approaches were tested on some widely used benchmark functions such as Rosenbrock, Rastrigin, Griewank, and Himmelblau. Synthetic magnetic fault anomalies were evaluated with and without noise, as well as three real anomalies from the Dehri (India), Perth Basin, and Lachlan Fold Belt (Australia). Prior to the optimizations, the solvability of the model parameters was examined using some error topography images. The obtained solutions in the synthetic cases were evaluated using principal component analysis. In addition, a novel visualization option for high‐dimensional optimization problems was introduced. The experiments showed that imBSA has a faster convergence rate and better optimization statistics compared to BSA and mBSA. Therefore, it is believed to be an efficient and good alternative tool to widely used metaheuristics such as Particle Swarm Optimization and DE in explaining geophysical anomalies and optimization problems in other geoscientific disciplines.

Objectives: To evaluate the subtle peripheral retinal and macular vascular changes in the fellow eyes of patients with unilateral retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 53 patients with unilateral RVO and 44 age-matched controls. The frequency of peripheral retinal vascular pathologies in both eyes was evaluated using high quality ultra-wide field fluorescein angiography (UWFFA). Macular vascular density, flow area, and foveal avascular zone measurements from optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) were analyzed together with laser flare photometry values in patients and controls. Results: Peripheral retinal vascular pathologies were detected on UWFFA in the fellow eyes of 36 (67.9%) patients. No significant central vascular pathologies were detected on OCTA and there was no significant difference in OCTA parameters between the fellow eyes and the controls. Flare values did not differ significantly between the control and the fellow eyes. Conclusion: Two thirds of the fellow eyes of unilateral RVO patients had subtle peripheral retinal vascular changes, while there was no significant microvascular change detected with OCTA in the macula. This suggests that vascular changes caused by systemic vascular disorders probably first start in the peripheral retina of the fellow eyes of patients with RVO.

This study aimed to report the diagnostic process, treatment, and follow-up of a patient with bullous exudative retinal detachment (RD) associated with an atypical variant of bilateral central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). A 28-year-old woman was referred to our clinic for total bullous RD in the right eye with a vision level of light perception only. She had been previously diagnosed with idiopathic uveal effusion syndrome and treated with systemic corticosteroid therapy with no response, and was referred to us for scleral window surgery. Four-quadrant scleral window surgery with external drainage of the subretinal fluid was performed, resulting in a transient partial attachment of the retina. RD started to progress again within 3 weeks, which prompted comprehensive imaging together with more advanced systemic workup for systemic lupus erythematosus and other rheumatological and immunological diseases. Systemic corticosteroid therapy was initiated during this period but did not stop the progression and was discontinued after a short time. Fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography revealed multifocal choroidal leakage foci and large choroidal vessels without any intraocular inflammation findings and led to the diagnosis of atypical CSCR. Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), internal drainage of the subretinal fluid, endolaser to the focal leakage areas, and intravitreal aflibercept injection were performed. Visual acuity increased to 0.8 within 8 months after the surgery with no recurrence. Bullous exudative RD is a very rare and atypical form of CSCR, and a favorable outcome can be obtained with PPV and surgical drainage of subretinal fluid followed by laser photocoagulation.

Background: The simple explanation of burnout syndrome is exhaustion from work and work-related factors. It is more common in work that requires face-to-face contact with people, such as dentists. In this study, we researched the burnout levels of dentists working in Turkey and evaluated them according to gender, title, place of work and experience. Methods: Burnout scores were determined by the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. This questionnaire was delivered to dentists online through various social media applications. We analyzed data via SigmaPlot Software. Results: The answers of a total of 477 dentists were considered valid. We observed that 73,5% of them had high burnout scores. A statistically significant difference was found in the evaluations according to the title and workplace. Experience and gender do not statistically affect burnout scores. Conclusion: It has been observed that dentists working in Turkey are more likely to face burnout syndrome at high levels. It has been predicted that patient burden may be closely related to burnout syndrome.

Introduction: Inappropriately prescribed antibiotics accelerate the formation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This circumstance creates a problematic situation in terms of public health. This study aims to measure dentists' antibiotic/prophylaxis knowledge and awareness of antibiotic resistance in Turkey based on two case scenarios. Materials Methods: Dentists in Turkey are invited by open invitation posts on various social media applications for our twelve-question online survey. The scoring was shaped based on answers to measure antibiotic/prophylaxis knowledge. The collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS Statistics 22. Results: 321 participants answered all questions included in the study. The statistical analyses showed a significant difference in the evaluations according to gender, title, graduation time, and workplace. Conclusion: Inappropriate antibiotic prescription by dentists is common in Turkey. Dentists should receive more undergraduate lessons, and taking reminder antibiotic courses at regular intervals after graduation can contribute to keeping their knowledge up to date.

Background: Preclinical animal models which mimic the dimensions of long urethral strictures (>2 cm in length) encountered in the clinic are necessary to evaluate prospective graft designs for urethroplasty. The purpose of this study was to develop both male and female porcine models of long urethral strictures (∼4 cm in length) and characterize histological and functional outcomes of iatrogenic stricture formation between genders. Methods: Focal, partial thickness urethral injuries were created over 5–6 cm long segments in male and female swine (N = 4 per gender) via electrocoagulation and the degree of stricture formation was monitored for up to 6 weeks by urethroscopy and retrograde urethrography. Animals were sacrificed following stricture confirmation and histological, immunohistochemical, and histomorphometric analyses were performed on strictured and uninjured control urethral segments to profile wound healing responses. Results: Urethral stricture formation was detected in all female swine by 2 weeks and 100 % of male swine at 3.2 ± 1.8 weeks, post-operatively. The mean length of urethral strictures in both male and female swine was ∼4 cm. Substantial variations in the degree of stricture severity between sexes were observed with males exhibiting significant urethral stenosis and loss of α-smooth muscle actin+ smooth muscle bundles in comparison to controls, while females primarily displayed defects in pan-cytokeratin+ epithelia as well as functional urethral obstruction. Conclusions: Electrocoagulation injury is sufficient to produce long urethral strictures in male and female swine and the degree of stricture severity and nature of urethral obstruction was observed to be dependent on gender. Key message: Novel male and female models of long urethral strictures in swine were created to characterize histological and functional outcomes of iatrogenic stricture formation between genders.

Bu çalışma Çukurova Bölgesinde yetiştirilen mandaların süt yağ asit bileşimini ortaya koymak ve fonksiyonel bir gıda olarak önemini vurgulamak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmamızın materyalini oluşturan mandaların süt yağında en yüksek oranlara sahip yağ asitleri C14:0 (miristik asit) yaz mevsiminde %11,22 ve kış mevsiminde %11,34, C16:0 (palmitik asit) yaz mevsiminde %36,07 ve kış mevsiminde %35,77, C18:0 (stearik asit) yaz mevsiminde %11,23 ve kış mevsiminde %11,20 ve C18:1n9c (oleik asit) yaz mevsiminde %24,63 ve kış mevsiminde %24,77 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz sonucunda mevsimin etkisi istatistiki olarak önemsiz çıkmıştır (P>0,01). Süt yağında doymuş yağ asitlerinin oranları (SFA) (%67,9 ila 68,09), tekli doymamış yağ asitlerinin (MUFA) (%28,87 ila 29,04) ve çoklu doymamış yağ asitlerinin (PUFA) (%3,04 ila 3,06) arasındadır. Çukurova Bölgesinde yetiştirilen mandalarda süt yağ asitlerinin belirlenmesi konusunda yapılan çalışma yok denecek kadar azdır. Bu noktada manda süt yağ asit kompozisyonuna ilişkin genel bir veri elde edilmesi amacı ile yapılan bu çalışma sonuçlarının mevcut durumun tespiti ve gelecekte muhtemel gelişmeler yönünde katkı sağlayacak kapsamlı araştırmalara veri oluşturabileceği öngörülmektedir.

An m-consecutive-k-out-of-n: F (m/C/k/n: F) system consists of n linearly ordered components such that the system fails if and only if there are at least m nonoverlapping runs of k consecutive failed components. Our motivation in this work is to obtain efficient formulas for the signature and reliability of the m/C/k/n: F system with independent and identical (i.i.d) components that are easy to implement and have a low computational time. We demonstrate that the reliability formula derived for this system requires less computational time than the m/C/k/n: F system formula currently in use. For the minimal and maximal signatures of the m/C/k/n: F system, we provide precise equations. In addition, the average number of faulty components at the time of an m/C/k/n: F system failure and mean time to failure (MTTF) of an m/C/k/n: F system are analyzed through the system signature.

Background: This study aims to determine the position of impacted maxillary canines on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, to determine the presence of resorption in adjacent teeth, and to investigate the position and type of resorption of impacted canines if resorption is present. Methods: Patients over 14 years of age with maxillary canine teeth who had CBCT images taken for any dental reason were included in the study. Resorption of teeth adjacent to maxillary canines was analyzed according to transversal, vertical, and buccopalatinal positions on the CBCT. The study evaluated 162 maxillary canine teeth on tomography images of 134 patients. Results: Of the affected adjacent teeth, 32.1% of the central incisor, 58.0% of the lateral incisor, and 19.1% of the first premolars showed mild-to-severe resorption. The relationships between transversal position and resorption in the central and lateral incisor, vertical position and resorption in the central incisor and buccopalatinal position and resorption in the first premolars were found to be significant. Maxillary canine teeth can cause mild-to-severe resorption of adjacent teeth, especially lateral incisors. Conclusion: For this reason, we think that a detailed examination with CBCT is essential in the early diagnosis of resorption of adjacent teeth.

Abstract Background A fixed screw-retained full-arch restoration supported by four implants is a popular treatment option for edentulous arches. Optimal alignment of implants is quite challenging in extremely atrophied edentulous cases, and a small amount of deviation is expected during guided surgery. This study aimed to compare implant accuracy among edentulous jaws with various levels of atrophy. Methods Five separate copies of each Cawood and Howell model (III–V) were produced for the maxilla and mandible. A total of 120 implants (30 models). The implant accuracy was assessed based on angular deviations at the base (angle, 3D offset, distal, vestibular, and apical) and tip (3D offset, distal, vestibular, and apical). Results The atrophy level of the jaws had a statistically significant effect on deviation; implants showed greater deviation from the planned location as the atrophy level increased. Conclusion Given that implant deviation increased with the degree of atrophy, a greater safety margin from important anatomical structures is recommended when planning implant location for guided surgery in Cawood and Howell V cases.

The desid spider genus Paracedicus Fet, 1993 comprises seven species distributed in the western Palaearctic. From Turkey, only Paracedicus baram Levy, 2007 has been recorded so far.A new species, Paracedicus turcicus sp. nov., is described, based on specimens of both sexes collected in Eastern Anatolia. Detailed morphological description and photographs are provided. Additionally, a key to all species of the genus and a distribution map are provided.

ObjectiveCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) account for a high fatality rate worldwide. Heart murmurs can be detected from phonocardiograms (PCGs) and may indicate CVDs. Still, they are often overlooked as their detection and correct clinical interpretation require expert skills. In this work, we aim to predict the presence of murmurs and clinical outcomes from multiple PCG recordings employing an explainable multitask model.ApproachOur approach consists of a two-stage multitask model. In the first stage, we predict the murmur presence in single PCGs using a multiple instance learning (MIL) framework. MIL also allows us to derive sample-wise classifications (i.e. murmur locations) while only needing one annotation per recording ("weak label") during training. In the second stage, we fuse explainable hand-crafted features with features from a pooling-based artificial neural network (PANN) derived from the MIL framework. Finally, we predict the presence of murmurs and the clinical outcome for a single patient based on multiple recordings using a simple feed-forward neural network.Main resultsWe show qualitatively and quantitatively that the MIL approach yields useful features and can be used to detect murmurs on multiple time instances and may thus guide a practitioner through PCGs. We analyze the second stage of the model in terms of murmur classification and clinical outcome. We achieved a weighted accuracy of 0.714 and an outcome cost of 13612 when using the PANN model and demographic features on the CirCor dataset (hidden test set of the George B. Moody PhysioNet challenge 2022, team "Heart2Beat", rank 12 / 40).SignificanceTo the best of our knowledge, we are the first to demonstrate the usefulness of MIL in PCG classification. Also, we showcase how the explainability of the model can be analyzed quantitatively, thus avoiding confirmation bias inherent to many post-hoc methods. Finally, our overall results demonstrate the merit of employing MIL combined with handcrafted features for the generation of explainable features as well as for a competitive classification performance.

Introduction:The three-dimensional (3D) modeling technique, which is one of the latest technologies, has been applied in neurosurgical practice. The surgeon’s knowledge and experience are crucial for the success of the surgical treatment of brain tumors and brain aneurysms. This study emphasizes that the contribution to successful surgery is by ensuring that the surgeon is fully oriented before and during the operation.Methods:The study included five patients with brain tumors and five patients with hemorrhagic aneurysm, which were diagnosed between May 2021 and November 2022. Both patient groups were evaluated retrospectively, and all operations were performed by the same experienced surgeon. 3D models of the patients were prepared using a computer program. These models were examined by the operating surgeon during the preoperative period and were sterilized and used as a guide during the operation.Results:The patients were divided into two groups, one composed of five patients undergoing surgery with the diagnosis of a tumor and the other composed of five patients undergoing surgery due to a ruptured aneurysm. All operations were performed by the same experienced surgeon. Successful clipping was performed in all patients with ruptured aneurysms.Conclusion:Surgeons have been analyzing complex neuroanatomy data using the 3D modeling technique before surgery. The preoperative simulation improved the surgeon’s command of the field and orientation to the surgery. These findings suggest that 3D modeling will positively affect a successful surgical operation and the management of complications that may occur. More prospective randomized studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Background and Objectives: Our study aimed to reveal the effect of using 4 mm bare-metal stents (BMS), 4 mm drug-eluting stents (DES), or 3 mm DES with 4 mm diameter balloon post-dilation strategies on long-term clinical outcomes and endpoints for large-diameter coronary artery percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Materials and Methods: In our study, patients who had undergone PCI were retrospectively screened between January 2014 and July 2020. The study included 350 patients and was divided into three groups; Group I (n = 134) included patients with direct 4.0 mm BMS implantation, Group II (n = 109) included patients with direct 4.0 DES implantation, and Group III (n = 107) included patients with 4mm NC post-dilatation after 3 mm DES implantation. Primary endpoints were determined as target lesion revascularisation, cardiac mortality, and myocardial infarction associated with the target vessel. Our secondary endpoint was all-cause mortality. Results: No differences were observed between the groups in terms of the baseline variables. Stent length was the highest in Group II and the shortest in Group III. There were no significant differences between the groups regarding major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Conclusions: Our study suggests that in percutaneous coronary interventions for non-complex lesions, there is no significant difference in MACE outcomes when directly implanting a 4 mm diameter DES, a 4 mm diameter BMS, or a 3 mm diameter DES, followed by post-dilation with an appropriately sized NC balloon when the target vessel diameter is in the range of 4 to 4.4 mm.

In this study, a sensorimotor controller is designed to characterize the required muscle force to enable a robotics system to perform a human-like circular movement. When the appropriate muscle internal forces are chosen, the arm end-point tracks the desired path via joint-space feedback. An objective function of the least-change rate of muscle forces is determined to find suitable feedback gains. The parameter defining the muscle force is then treated as a learning parameter through an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system, incorporating the rate of change of muscle forces. In experimental section, the arm motion of healthy subjects is captured using the inertial measurement unit sensors, and then the image of the drawn path is processed. The inertial measurement unit sensors detect each segment motion’s orientation using quaternions, and the image is employed to identify the exact end-point position. Experimental data on arm movement are then utilized in the control parameter computation. The proposed brain–motor control mechanism enhances motion performance, resulting in a more human-like movement.

İnsan ve çevre arasındaki sınırsız ilişki hayat tarzından inanç biçimine, iktisadi durumdan geleceğin planlanmasına kadar pek çok alandaki sürecin belirleyicisi olmuştur. Kahramanlık ve yiğitlik mefhumlarına büyük önem veren Türkler, İslâmiyet ile tanıştıktan sonra kadim gelenek ve kültürlerini İslâmiyet’in esasına muhalefet etmeyecek şekilde dönüştürmüşlerdir. Bu değişim ve dönüşümden kuşaktan kuşağa anlatılan kahramanlık hikâyeleri de nasibini alırken özellikle Anadolu’nun fethiyle ortaya çıkan yeni şartların da eklenmesiyle bu gelenek Cenkname olarak yeni bir forma bürünmüştür. İslâm tarihinde büyük kahramanlıklarıyla bilinen Hz. Ali de yiğitliğinden dolayı Türklerin yeni bir form kazandırdıkları anlatılarının ana figürü olmuştur. Hz. Ali’nin Hz. Peygamber ile yakınlığı da ona ayrı bir hürmet duyulmasına sebep olurken destansı özelliklerle anlatılan kahramanlık hikâyelerinin Hz. Ali’ye isnat edilmesi sürecini de doğurmuştur ki Cenkname olarak gelişen bu gelenek asırlar boyunca devam etmiştir. Hatta ortaya çıktığı ve yaygınlaştığı Osmanlı Devleti’nden sonra Cumhuriyet Türkiye’sine de miras kalan Hz. Ali Cenknameleri modern Türk edebiyatının büyük şairlerinden Sezai Karakoç’un hayatında da yer edinerek bir şiirine konu olmuştur. Şair Karakoç, Çocukluğumuz şiirinde Hz. Ali Cenknamelerinin çocukluk dönemindeki anlatım sürecine ve bir çocuk olan kendisiyle arkadaşlarına hissettirdiklerini ifade etmeye gayret etmiştir. Bu çalışma; adı geçen bilgiler ışığında ve Türklerin inanç dünyasından hareketle kahramanlık kavramının Türkler için önemini, Cenkname geleneğini, Hz. Deuterium/hydrogen exchange shows that conformational flexibility of the hybrid transmembrane domains (TMD) of amyloid precursor proteins plays a role in TMD cleavability by γ-secretase in vitro and in cellulo.

In this study, the average power consumption of an electrode welding machine during the welding process was estimated using the features of the sound emitted during welding. First, the instantaneous values of electrode current and voltage and the sound emitted during the welding process were recorded simultaneously. The minimum, maximum, average, root mean square (RMS), and energy values of the sound data were found and feature extraction was performed, and the instantaneous power and average power values were calculated using the instantaneous current and voltage values. Three Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems (ANFIS) using the sound features as inputs and average power values as outputs were created, and their results were compared. The average power values consumed during the welding process have been successfully estimated at a rate of 87-95%.

Amaç Odontomalar çenelerde en sık görülen odontojenik kökenli iyi huylu tümörlerdir. Yavaş büyürler ve agresif davranış göstermezler. Genellikle asemptomatiktirler ve sıklıkla rutin radyografi sırasında bulunurlar. Kompleks ve kompaund odontoma olarak ikiye ayrılmaktadır. Bu vaka serisinde 8’i komplex 14'ü kompaund, toplam 22 odontoma vakasının cerrahi tedavisinin anlatılması amaçlanmıştır. Olgular Sunumu Yaş aralığı 10-34 arası olan 14’ü kadın 8’i erkek toplam 22 hasta, bölümümüzde gerekli klinik ve radyolojik muayenelerden sonra cerrahi olarak opere edilmiştir. Çıkarılan dokuların histopatalojilerinin, radyolojik ve klinik bulgularla değerlendirilmesi ile 8’inin komplex 14’ünün kompound odontoma olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bazı vakalarda odontoma ile birlikte gömülü diş alınırken bazı vakalarda diş sürmesinin takibi amacıyla veya çene fraktürü riski sebebiyle etken gömülü dişler bırakılmıştır. İyileşme süresince hastalarda herhangi bir komplikasyon görülmemiştir. Sonuç Odontomalar genellikle asemptomatik görüldükleri için hastaların diş hekimlerine rutin kontrollere gelmeleri, erken teşhiste çok önemlidir. Erken teşhis ile morbidite ve maliyet azaltılabilir.

FeTi alloys are efficient hydrogen storage mediums but their synthesis using high-purity metals poses considerable environmental sustainability concerns. Here, industrial scraps of iron and titanium are used to synthesise FeTi with high hydrogen storage capacities and tunable thermodynamic properties.

Open access resource problems and harmful pollutants from manufacturing activities are common in resource management practices. Nevertheless, their implications have only been studied in different and separate frameworks that are not covered within the same structure. Previous studies suggest that resource management enforced by one country can increase welfare levels and rebuild resource conservation, compared to the case where no country imposes resource management policies. However, in real-life examples, the harvesting and manufacturing industries exert simultaneous pressure on fishery resource stocks, thereby changing the nature of the supply curve of renewable resources. This study investigates the effects of trade liberalization under unilateral resource management regimes in a two-country, two-sector model, in which both production sectors can detrimentally affect renewable natural resources by generating two interacting environmental burdens: excessive harvesting and industrial pollution. It is demonstrated that unilateral resource management applied by a country in which the resource-good sector is relatively less damaging to fishery stocks is welfare-reducing for both countries compared to the situation where neither manages its resource sector. This result is identified as “immiserizing resource management.” Notably, however, unilateral resource management by one country in which the resource-good sector has a more significant negative impact than the manufacturing industry can benefit both trading partners in welfare terms; this is referred to as “improving resource management.” Policymakers in international organizations should consider the relative dominance of externalities in the presence of weak property rights before requiring resource management as a condition for participating in international trade.

Aim: The extent of the spread of inflammation determines the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP). Methylated arginine residues (MAR), a type of inflammatory mediator, reduce nitric oxide levels and cause vasoconstriction-induced endothelial damage. This study aimed to investigate MAR and related amino acids during acute pancreatic inflammation. Material and Method: This prospective, quasi-experimental study was conducted with patients diagnosed with AP and an age-matched control group. The patient samples were taken during the diagnosis and recovery time, whereas during the study for the control group. Mainly, Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), Arginine (ARG), Citrulline (CIT), and related chemicals were studied via a mass spectrometer. Results: A total of 30 patients with AP (mean age=53.3±17.8) and 30 controls (mean age=53.4±18.0) were included in the study. All patients were identified as non-severe (n=8) and severe (n=22). A decrease was detected in the patients' ADMA levels compared to the control group (p=0.01). MAR did not differ concerning disease severity (p > 0.05). However, MAR levels decreased higher in patients with diabetes or chronic kidney disease (CKD). Between the two samplings, the ARG level and ARG to ADMA ratio increased, while the MAR and CIT to ARG ratio decreased. Conclusion: Our results showed that MAR levels decreased with AP recovery. The start of a decrease in the high-level blood MAR may indicate the healing of pancreatic inflammation. AP inflammation may be more destructive in patients with diabetes or CKD.

Abstract Fn14 is a cell surface receptor with key functions in tissue homeostasis and injury but is also linked to chronic diseases. Despite its physiological and medical importance, the regulation of Fn14 signaling and turnover is only partly understood. Here, we demonstrate that Fn14 is cleaved within its transmembrane domain by the protease γ‐secretase, resulting in secretion of the soluble Fn14 ectodomain (sFn14). Inhibition of γ‐secretase in tumor cells reduced sFn14 secretion, increased full‐length Fn14 at the cell surface, and enhanced TWEAK ligand‐stimulated Fn14 signaling through the NFκB pathway, which led to enhanced release of the cytokine tumor necrosis factor. γ‐Secretase‐dependent sFn14 release was also detected ex vivo in primary tumor cells from glioblastoma patients, in mouse and human plasma and was strongly reduced in blood from human cancer patients dosed with a γ‐secretase inhibitor prior to chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)‐T‐cell treatment. Taken together, our study demonstrates a novel function for γ‐secretase in attenuating TWEAK/Fn14 signaling and suggests the use of sFn14 as an easily measurable pharmacodynamic biomarker to monitor γ‐secretase activity in vivo.

Background: GM1 gangliosidosis is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disease caused by biallelic mutations in the GLB1 gene. Neurodegeneration, hypotonia, visceromegaly, macular cherry-red spots, skeletal dysplasia, and coarse and dysmorphic face are the major clinical features. Aims: To evaluate the demographic and clinical data of patients with GM1 gangliosidosis in a single center. Study Design: A retrospective clinical study. Methods: This study included patients followed at Hacettepe University İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital Pediatric Metabolism Unit with the diagnosis of GM1 gangliosidosis between 1988 and 2021. Hospital records of the patients were reviewed for demographic, clinical, and laboratory findings. Results: Fourteen patients were included in the study and 10 (71.4%) were male. The age at onset of clinical symptoms was between 0 and 5 months, and the median time to diagnosis after the first symptom was 4.3 (0-13) months. Motor delay (54%) was the most common initial symptom. The median follow-up period was 14.8 (0.4-92.2) months. Twelve patients (85.7%) died, and all deaths occurred before the age of 24 months. The median survival was 21.3 (95% confidence interval, 15.5-24.9) months. Higher leukocyte beta-galactosidase activity correlated with later age at onset (ρ = 0.575), later age at diagnosis (ρ = 0.618), and longer diagnostic delay (ρ = 0.702) (ρ < 0.05). Conclusion: Median survival in patients with GM1 gangliosidosis is less than 24 months. Beta-galactosidase enzyme activity may be associated with clinical onset and time of diagnosis in these patients.

Abstract Background Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) causes significant morbidity today. Atherosclerosis is evident in the pathophysiological process in most patients, so PAD has similar risk factors as coronary artery disease. Platelet-Hemoglobin ratio (PHR) has been proven to predict mortality in atherosclerotic heart disease. We aimed to determine the relationship between PHR and below-knee amputation. Methods The study is a single-center retrospective study. Platelet count/hemoglobin amount formula was used for PHR. Only PAD patients with below-knee critical extremity ischemia and unsuitable for revascularization were included in the study. Results 235 patients were included in the study retrospectively. The mean age was 65.7 ± 9.9 years and 175(74.5%) of them were male. In the amputated group, white blood cell, neutrophil, platelet, creatinine, glucose, and PHR were higher (p = .031, p = .045, p = .011, p = .048 p = .018, p = .004, respectively). Only hemoglobin values were lower (p = .003). Multivariable regression analysis showed; age, albumin and PHR were determined as independent risk factors for amputation (Age; OR (95%CI): (1.094(1.040–1.152), p = .001) (Albumin; OR (95% CI): 1.950(1.623–1.799), p = .001) (PHR; OR (95% CI): 1.872(1.246–2.812), p = .003). ÖZ: Bu çalışmanın amacı; çalışma standartlarının Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ndeki 100 yıllık dönüşümünün dönemsel olarak incelenmesi ve çalışma standartlarının uygulamadaki sorunlarının belirgin hale getirilmesidir. İmparatorluktan Cumhuriyete geçişle oluşan endüstri ilişkileri sisteminin dönüşümünün gözlemlenebilmesi için hatta imparatorluk dönemi, Cumhuriyetin ilk yılları ve küreselleşeme sürecine geçiş ve sonrası dönemlerinde çalışma standartlarındaki dönüşümün incelenmesi çalışma standartlarının sosyo-kültürel etkilerini de görmek açısından oldukça önemlidir. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu döneminden itibaren tarihsel süreç içerisinde zamanla olumlu gelişme gösteren çalışma standartları, 1980’li yıllar itibariyle küreselleşme olgusunun da etkisiyle birlikte olumsuz yönde gelişmeler yaşamaktadır. Bu durum dünyada endüstri ilişkilerinin değişmesine neden olduğu gibi gelişmekte olan ülkeleri de çalışma standartları konusunda dibe doğru bir yarışın içerisine çekmektedir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti de 1990’lı yılların sonrasında bu dibe doğru yarışın aktörlerinden birisi haline gelmiş ve ucuz emeği doğrudan yabancı yatırımları çekebilmek adına bir avantaj olarak kullanmaya başlamıştır. 2000’li yıllardan itibaren Türkiye hızlı bir ekonomik büyüme sürecine girmiş olduğu görünse de elde edilen refahın çalışma standartlarının arttırılması konusunda etkili olmadığı hatta yapılan sektör (İnşaat gibi) tercihleri ile birlikte çalışma standartların düştüğü görülmektedir. Bu süreçte sadece sektör tercihlerinin değiş düzensiz göç gibi dışsal faktörlerin de etkisi oldukça fazladır. Bu çalışma sonucunda; 100 yaşında olan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin endüstri ilişkileri ile ilgili politikalarını ILO sözleşmeleriyle uyumlu hale gelecek şekilde dönüştürmesi sonucunda çalışma standartlarındaki muhtemel gelişmeler tartışılmış ve sonraki politika tartışmaları için alan açılmıştır. ABSTRACT: This study aims to periodically examine the 100-year transformation of labor standards in the Republic of Turkey and to clarify the problems in the practice of labor standards. To observe the transformation of the industrial relations system formed by the transition from the Empire to the Republic, it is very important to examine the transformation in the working standards in the imperial period, the first years of the Republic, the transition to the globalization process and the following periods, to see the socio-cultural effects of the working standards. Working standards, which have shown positive development over time in the historical process since the Ottoman Empire period, have been experiencing negative developments with the effect of globalization as of the 1980s. This situation not only causes changes in industrial relations in the world but also draws developing countries into a race to the bottom in terms of labor standards. The Republic of Turkey has also become one of the actors in this race to the bottom after the 1990s and has started to use cheap labor as an advantage to attract foreign direct investments. Although it seems that Turkey has entered a rapid economic growth process since the 2000s, it is seen that the welfare achieved is not effective in increasing the working standards, and even the working standards have decreased with the sector (such as Construction) preferences. In this process, not only sector preferences but also external factors such as irregular migration have a significant impact. As a result of this study; As a result of the 100-year-old Republic of Turkey's transformation of its industrial relations policies in line with ILO conventions, possible developments in labor standards were discussed and space was opened for further policy discussions.

On February 6, 2023, two large earthquakes occurred near the Turkish town of Kahramanmaraş. The moment magnitude (Mw) 7.8 mainshock ruptured a 310 km-long segment of the left-lateral East Anatolian Fault, propagating through multiple releasing step-overs. The Mw 7.6 aftershock involved nearby left-lateral strike-slip faults of the East Anatolian Fault Zone, causing a 150 km-long rupture. We use remote-sensing observations to constrain the spatial distribution of coseismic slip for these two events and the February 20 Mw 6.4 aftershock near Antakya. Pixel tracking of optical and synthetic aperture radar data of the Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-1 satellites, respectively, provide near-field surface displacements. High-rate Global Navigation Satellite System data constrain each event separately. Coseismic slip extends from the surface to about 15 km depth with a shallow slip deficit. Most aftershocks cluster at major fault bends, surround the regions of high coseismic slip, or extend outward of the ruptured faults. For the mainshock, rupture propagation stopped southward at the diffuse termination of the East Anatolian fault and tapered off northward into the Pütürge segment, some 20 km south of the 2020 Mw 6.8 Elaziğ earthquake, highlighting a potential seismic gap. These events underscore the high seismic potential of immature fault systems.

Mucormycosis; is a rapidly progressive fungal infection due to filamentous fungi of the mucoraceae family. In this case report, we aimed to present the diagnosis and treatment modalities of a patient who developed rhinoorbital mucormycosis. A 54-year-old patient with a history of hypertension applied to the emergency department with a complaint of wound in the mouth that started four days ago. In the examinations performed here, the patient was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis. In the examination of the patient, it was found that there was a necrotic wound on the left hard palate, a necrotic wound extending from the left inferior turbinate to the nasopharynx, and hyphae in the nasal passage. The patient underwent an aggressive debridement operation on the third day, due to the growth in the fungal culture. In the following clinical examination of the patient, ketone in the urine became negative, and his acidosis status improved. On the same day, the patient was treated with a positive coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) polymerase chain reaction. After 15 days of treatment, the patient died due to COVID-19 pneumonia. Mucormycosis should be doubtful in patients presenting with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and severe sino-orbital infection. All physicians following diabetic ketoacidosis should be vigilant against this rapidly progressing disease with high mortality.

In a repairable consecutive $ C(k,n:F) $ system, after the system operates for a certain time, some components may fail, some failed components may be repaired and the state of the system may change. The models developed in the existing literature usually assume that the state of the system varies over time depending on the values of n and k and the state of the system is known. Since the system reliability will vary over time, it is of great interest to analyse the time-dependent system reliability. In this paper, we develop a novel and simple method that utilizes the eigenvalues of the transition rate matrix of the system for the computation of time-dependent system reliability when the system state is known. In addition, the transition performance probabilities of the system from a known state to the possible states are also analysed. Computational results are presented to illustrate the applicability and accuracy of the proposed method.

Nanotechnology has a wide study field including organic and/or inorganic particles smaller than 100 nanometers and all kinds of technological studies developed using these particles. In the production of nanoparticles, top-down approaches in which macro-sized materials were reduced to nano-sizes and bottom-up approaches in which atoms / molecules were increased to nano-sizes by different chemical reactions, are used. Currently, nanoparticles produced by top-down approaches might be used in many industries such as food industry, water treatment systems, cosmetics, and medicine. Microorganisms that tend to move, adhere, and colonize a solid surface, cause the formation of microbial biofilm on these surfaces. Microbial biofilms show high resistance to traditional antimicrobial applications in industrial environments especially where food is processed, water piping systems, biological tissues and medical implants. Therefore, the requirement has emerged to make not only the surfaces in direct contact with people, but also the surfaces in contact with food, to be resistant to microorganisms by different antimicrobial coating techniques. In this review, it is aimed to give information about the production methods of nanomaterials, different antimicrobial surface-coating techniques, the mechanism of antimicrobial nanoparticles on microorganisms and potential applications of antimicrobial surfaces.
