Aim: In this study the case of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) has been identified as histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) in a 6-month-old male domestic shorthair cat. In necropsy, the abdominal cavity contained a significant volume of yellow liquid and granular fibrinous exudate was seen on the liver, serosa of intestines, and peritoneum. Microscopically, inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrin exudation, consisting mainly of macrophage, lymphocyte and plasma cells, were determined around small and medium-sized vessels in the tunica serosa layer of the intestines. Many granulomatous foci of various sizes, with or without necrosis, were found in the liver, spread to the parenchyma. In methyl green pyronin staining, plasma cells were found to be the majority of the inflammatory cells present in lesions. In IHC staining with specific antibodies against the agent, immunopositivity was obtained in granulomatous lesions in the serosa layer of the intestines and less frequently in the cytoplasm of mononuclear cells in the lamina propria. Immunoreactivity was detected in the cytoplasm of macrophages in the liver, around both pyrogranulomas and granulomas. It was concluded that this case of FIP, when all findings are evaluated together, may have started as a dry form, and turned into a wet form in the terminal period.

White muscle disease (WMD) and/or nutritional muscular dystrophy is defined as a disease with a generally acute course that results in degeneration and necrosis of the heart muscle. In this study, it was aimed to reveal local tissue expressions of acute phase proteins such as C–reactive protein (CRP), Serum amyloid–A (SAA) and Haptoglobin (Hp) in lambs with WMD. The study material consisted of 27, one–six months old lamb heart tissues, 6 of which were healthy and 21 with WMD. The lambs were necropsied, and the relevant heart samples were taken into neutral formaldehyde. Afterwards, paraffin blocks were obtained by going through routine tissue follow–up processes. Sections were taken from paraffin blocks and stained with Hematoxylin–Eosin (H–E) and Immunohistochemical methods. Histopathologically, control groups exhibited normal histology. Hyaline degeneration, Zenker necrosis, calcification, inflammatory cell infiltration and an increase in connective tissue were detected in the heart tissues of lambs with WMD. Lambs with WMD had significantly increased CRP and SAA proteins compared to control (P0.05). In conclusion, local tissue expressions of CRP, SAA and Hp in lambs with WMD were identified immunohistochemically for the first time. It is possible to say that CRP and SAA may play important roles in the pathophysiology of WMD and that CRP and SAA may provide more sensitive results in the diagnosis and prognosis of the disease.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease that affects a large number of people and animals, causing physical disability, workforce loss and significant economic losses in the livestock industry. In the current study, it was aimed to determine and compare the levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF–α), interferon gamma (IFN–γ), Procalcitonin (PCT) and Neopterin in the blood serums of cattle with brucellosis and vaccinated against brucellosis. The materials of this study consisted of a total 48 blood serums belonging to three basic groups, each consisting of 16 animals. Disease group (1st group) were divided into two subgrups each consisting of 8 animals that 21st day after abortion and seropositive 7 months pregnant, the vaccinated (2nd group) and the control (3rd group) groups were divided into two subgroups, each consisting of 8 animals that gave birth 21 days ago and 7 months pregnant. IFN–γ and PCT levels were determined by sandwich enzyme immunoassay, TNF–α and Neopterin levels were determined using competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay method by using ELISA device. In this study, TNF–α, PCT and Neopterin levels measured in the blood serums of the Brucella seropositive (1st), conjunctival Brucella abortus S19 vaccine administered (2nd) and unvaccinated Brucella seronegative control groups were compared and no significant difference could be determined between the subgroups of the groups (P>0.05). Helicobacter species such as H. heilmannii, H. pylori, H. felis, H. bizzozeronii and H. salomonis have been identified in cats and dogs, and research suggesting that these species may be zoonotic agents and has been studied intensified in recent years. The aim of this study was to reveal the presence, comparing the histopathological findings and Real-time PCR results of H. felis, H. heilmannii, and H. pylori in the stomach and liver tissues taken during the necropsies of owned, stray or shelter dogs. The material of the study consisted of stomach and liver tissues taken from 35 dogs that died for different reasons and were brought for necropsy. DNA copies of H. heilmannii were detected by Real-time PCR in the liver samples of 30 dogs using H. heilmannii-specific primers. In the case of gastric samples, Real-time PCR detected H. heilmannii in 13 cases, H. pylori in 3 cases, both H. heilmannii and H. pylori in 13 cases, and H. felis, H. heilmannii and H. pylori in 3 cases. Microscopically, neutrophil leukocyte infiltration, epithelial degeneration, fibrosis and oedema in the lamina propia, and lymphoplasmacytic cell infiltration were determined in the stomachs. In the Hemotoxylin Eosin staining of the sections, 5 cases and 14 cases in the Warthin–Starry staining were found positive for Helicobacter-like microorganisms. Microscopically, dissociation of the remark cords and hydropic degeneration in hepatocytes, and focal mononuclear cell infiltrations in some sections were determined in the livers. In conclusion, with this study, it was understood that Real-time PCR analyzes are very useful in the diagnosis of H. felis, H. heilmannii, and H. pylori. However, histopathological examinations are necessary to associate the presence of bacteria with the development of the disease.

In this study, a case of exudative type tuberculosis due to M. bovis infection was identified in a 2 month-old Holstein female calf that was treated with antibiotic treatment due to cough and respiratory problems in the neonatal period. Systemic necropsy revealed caseific nodules scattered across the entire lung, except the dorsal parts of the caudal lobes of the lung, and prominent interlobular edema was observed in the dorsal caudal regions. Histopathologically, exudative lesions that extensive caseification necrosis and calcification with diffuse inflammatory cells and Langhans type giant cells without fibrous capsule were seen in the lung parenchyma. Smaller and lesser number of similar granulomas was found in the liver and brain. Acid resistant bacteria in Ziehl-Neelsen staining were determined to be Mycobacterium bovis in immunohistochemical staining. It is aimed to draw attention to the fact that bovine tuberculosis should be considered as one of the important diseases affecting the calves in the neonatal period and may cause serious economic losses if no measures are taken.

Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is defined as colon and rectum cancer and is among the major causes of mortality in developed Countries. Tarantula cubensis alcoholic extract (TCAE) and Nerium oleander distillate (NOD) are reported to have anticancer and antioxidative activity. In this study, it was aimed to research the impact on cell proliferation markers of TCAE and NOD given simultaneously in experimental colon cancer. A total of 24 rats, 6 in each group, were used in the study. Cancer Control (CC): Azoxymethane was administered at the beginning of the experiment at a dose of 15 miligrams (mg)· kilograms-1 (kg), (Subcutaneous, SC) twice, with an interval of a week (wk), to induce cancer. CC+TCAE: the dosage of Azoxymethane administered was 15 mg·kg-1 (SC) twice a wk at the beginning of the experiment, while in the case of TCAE, it was 0.2 mL·kg-1 (SC) once a wk for 18 wk from the beginning of the experiment. Fifteen mg·kg-1 (SC) of Azoxymethane was administered twice at one-wk intervals at the beginning of the experiment to the CC+NOD group, and NO distillate (NOD) was given with water throughout the experiment. Afterwards, animals were euthanized under appropriate conditions, paraffin blocks formed from colon tissues, histochemical AgNOR (Silver-stained nucleolar organizer regions), and immunohistochemical PCNA (proliferating cell nuclear antigen) stainings were performed. ABSTRACT: Histomonas meleagridis and Tetratrichomonas gallinarum are two protozoans responsible for mortality associated with typhlohepatitis in poultry. In this study, the etiology of high mortality in Chukar partridges suspected of infection with these agents was investigated pathologically and molecularly. Twelve healthy partridges during the laying period and 30 partridges that died due to disease and were included in the study. In blood analysis, increased levels of WBC, NEU, LYM, MONO, EO and BASO suggesting bacterial and/or parasitic infection; decreased levels of HGB, MCH and MCHC, which are markers of anemia; and increased AST and LDH levels, which are important for liver degenerations. In the liver, which is one of the most pathologically affected organs, multifocal necrosis foci that sometimes merge with each other and spread to large areas, and severe fibrino-necrotic typhlitis were detected. There was amyloid deposition in the space of Disse and vascular sinuses in the liver. PAS positive protozoal agents were observed in and around the lesioned areas. By PCR analyzes using specific primers, 11 of the samples were positive for H. meleagridis only, whereas 5 were positive for T. gallinarum only; 14 samples tested positive for both agents. Sequence analysis showed 100% identity between all samples resulting in positive PCR. In addition, Escherichia coli was produced in microbiological culture (27 of 30). When all the results were evaluated together, it was concluded that H. meleagridis and T. gallinarum and secondary E. coli may cause high mortality in partridges under lay stress.
