Profesor Agnieszka Choduń, wybitna teoretyczka prawa, znakomita nauczycielka akademicka oraz wykładowczyni, była absolwentką Wydziału Prawa i Administracji Uniwersytetu Szczecińskiego. Również z tym Uniwersytetem związała swoją drogę zawodową. Na Wydziale Prawa i Administracji pracowała jako asystent, adiunkt oraz profesor uczelni. Odeszła 21 sierpnia 2023 roku po długiej chorobie. Pozostawiła po sobie ogromny dorobek naukowy oraz uczniów, którzy zawdzięczają Jej nie tylko wiedzę, lecz także określoną postawę metodologiczną oraz etyczną w nauce.

Asumptem do podjęcia problematyki edukacji prawnej w ramach edukacji formalnej w Polsce była zmiana podstawy programowej dla szkół ponadpodstawowych polegająca na wprowadzeniu nowego przedmiotu szkolnego: „historia i teraźniejszość” (HiT) w szkołach ponadpodstawowych oraz na wprowadzeniu szeregu innych zmian. Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie: Jak wskazana wyżej zmiana wpływa na zakres edukacji prawnej ujętej w podstawie programowej dla szkół ponadpodstawowych? Analiza podstawy programowej, przeprowadzona z wykorzystaniem odpowiednio zoperacjonalizowanych pojęć świadomości prawnej i kompetencji, wykazała, że wpływ analizowanych zmian w podstawie programowej dla szkół ponadpodstawowych na zakres edukacji prawnej w ramach edukacji formalnej w Polsce jest bardzo duży. Po pierwsze, znacznie ograniczony został zakres wiedzy o prawie; po drugie, praktycznie wyeliminowano zagadnienia, których realizacja sprzyjała rozwijaniu określonych umiejętności, wyrażaniu ocen, przyjmowaniu postaw czy krytycznemu myśleniu, które mogłoby prowadzić do formułowania postulatów zmian w prawie.

The microhabitat preferences of chicken turtles (Deirochelys reticularia) have remained an area of speculation. To investigate this, we studied a population of chicken turtles located at Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve (NHWEP) on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This unique barrier island ecosystem contains > 20 independent, interdunal, and mostly permanent ponds in a relatively small area (< 500 ha), which provided a unique opportunity to determine the microhabitat preferences of chicken turtles. The ponds throughout NHWEP exhibit vast variation in abiotic factors that could influence chicken turtle presence. We used a backward selection Poisson regression modeling framework to investigate the composition of each pond in relation to environmental variables and D. reticularia presence. Our models included multiple factors that could potentially affect chicken turtle microhabitat preferences such as pond depth, mud depth, water clarity, canopy cover, water chemistry, and salinity. After examining these factors within our models, we discovered that pond depth, canopy cover, and salinity were the most important factors contributing to the presence of chicken turtles. Specifically, our analysis showed that chicken turtles prefer shallow ponds with minimal canopy cover and that exhibit little to no salinity. Thus, our findings provide an important baseline understanding of chicken turtle microhabitat use that could be critical to management within changing ecosystems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prognostic value of inflammatory indices, such as the absolute monocyte count (AMC), has been a subject of interest in recent prostate cancer (PCa) studies, while hemoglobin concentration (HGB) has been recognized as a survival factor in castration-resistant metastatic prostate cancer, but its value remains unclear in localized diseases. The aim of this study was to test the prognostic value of these two simple and inexpensive biomarkers for survival and was based on a cohort of 1016 patients treated with primary radiotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy for localized or locally advanced intermediate- or high-risk PCa. Complete survival data were available for all cases and were based on the National Cancer Registry, with a median observation time of 120 months (Interquartile Range (IQR) 80.9–144.7). Missing blood test data were supplemented using the Nearest Neighbor Imputation, and the Cox Proportional Hazards Regression model was used for analysis. The median age was 68.8 years (IQR 63.3–73.5). The five-year overall survival was 82.8%, and 508 patients were alive at the time of analysis. The median time between blood tests and the first day of radiotherapy was 6 days (IQR 0–19). HGB (p = 0.009) and AMC (p = 0.003) were independent prognostic factors for survival, along with age, Gleason Grade Group, clinical T stage and maximum prostate-specific antigen concentration. This study demonstrates that HGB and AMC can be useful biomarkers for overall survival in patients treated with radiotherapy for localized intermediate- or high-risk PCa.

Artykuł stanowi analizę selekcyjnej funkcji szkolnictwa w Republice Południowej Afryki w okresie apartheidu (1948–1994). Zawarto w nim rozważania dotyczące praktyk segregacji rasowej i roli szkolnictwa w odtwarzaniu zróżnicowania społecznego w południowoafrykańskiej edukacji. Analizy osadzone są w teoretycznych koncepcjach zamknięcia społecznego. Odnoszą się one do praktyk selekcyjnych oraz zjawisk dyskryminacji obecnych w kolejnych etapach rozwoju systemu edukacji w RPA.

Aim of the work was to review systematically the published literature addressing whether quality of life (QoL) and health-related QoL (HRQoL) are influenced by surgery among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Electronic databases and published articles were searched to identify relevant studies published in the years 1990–2015. Then, a multistep selection was undertaken to identify articles that met specific selection criteria, such us specific key-words (IBD, HRQoL, ulcerative colitis (UC), Crohn’s disease (CD), and surgery), and the population was assessed (studies concerning patients < 18 years old were excluded). The review included 27 studies that were evaluated in the context of the influence of surgery on QoL and HRQoL. Concluding, with the increase in the incidence of IBD, monitoring of QoL is an important indicator of the health effects at each stage of the surgical treatment.

Colorectal cancer is recognized as the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Thus, there is ongoing search for potential new biomarkers allowing quicker and less invasive detection of the disease and prediction of the treatment outcome. Therefore, the aim of our study was to identify colorectal cancer specific miRNAs expressed in cancerous and healthy tissue from the same patient and to further correlate the presence of the same miRNAs in the circulation as potential biomarkers for diagnosis. In the current study we detected a set of 40 miRNAs differentially regulated in tumor tissue when comparing with healthy tissue. Additionally, we found 8 miRNAs differentially regulated in serum of colorectal cancer patients. Interestingly, there was no overlap in miRNAs regulated in tissue and serum, suggesting that serum regulated miRNAs may be not actively secreted from colorectal tumor cells. However, four of differentially expressed miRNAs, including miR-21, miR-17, miR-20a and miR-32 represent the miRNAs characteristic for different tumor types, including breast, colon, lung, pancreas, prostate and stomach cancer. This finding suggests important groups of miRNAs which can be further validated as markers for diagnosis of tumor tissue and regulation of carcinogenesis.

The types of natural and agricultural science resources contained in the AGRO database have been characterized and their dynamic development in qualitative and quantitative terms in 2009–2016 has been described. In addition, types of database records are presented, with justification for their differentiation by: records containing only a bibliographic description of the article, bibliographic records along with authors’ affiliations, records with, in addition to the aforementioned elements, summaries and attachment bibliographies and records of the highest information value, most frequently searched by database users, in other words records containing full texts of articles. Furthermore, the database recipients and their information and search preferences based on surveys are defined. The use of AGRO in Poland and abroad is considered based on selected statistical data. The AGRO database development plans are discussed depending on the acquisition of funds for its maintenance and quantitative development and the multiplication of records with full texts.
