1. Vascular flora of Punta Arenas city: comparative analysis of composition, life forms, and biogeographic origins

Abstract

Abstract The composition of the vascular flora in Punta Arenas city, found in the city’s public spaces, was studied. The species were identified and recorded in a database, which was supplemented with information on taxonomic classification, growth habit, Raunkiaer’s life form, origin status (native or exotic), and original continent-level distribution. These data were compared with studies conducted in five other cities in central Chile, together with an analysis of compositional similarity with these cities, by using the additive complement of Simpson’s index (1– βsim). In Punta Arenas, 119 species were identified, showing a higher proportion of Gymnosperms compared to central Chilean cities. The most represented families were Asteraceae (16 species), Fabaceae (14), Rosaceae (14), Poaceae (12), and Pinaceae (10), which together accounted for 55% of the floristic richness. Abstract

For the psychological and personal well-being of university students, it is considered essential to study the coping strategies they use when faced with conflictive situations in the academic context and the resources that the institution offers to help them overcome these challenges. The objective of this work is to evaluate the effect of sex and culture on the different coping strategies that higher education students use in the face of the difficulties they face in the academic environment. For this purpose, the questionnaire “Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI)” was applied to a sample of 1,281 university students. The results indicate that there are significant differences in the problem-solving strategies used depending on gender and culture, finding interaction between these variables, with European women being the ones who use active strategies the most. On the contrary, men of Berber origin, are the ones who use less coping strategies, both active (emotional expression and social support) and passive (desiderative thinking), to resolve conflicts.

Abstract

Genetically modified (GM) foods are important because of their ability to increase crop yields, resist disease and adverse weather conditions, and improve nutritional quality. However, their use generates controversy because of concerns about food safety, benefits and risks due to their consumption. It is therefore necessary to evaluate the importance of these variables. The current study evaluated the variables that explain consumers' intention to purchase GM food in Panama. It was carried out by prospective, quantitative, non-experimental, and correlational research of 385 consumers. A multivariate technique evaluated the model proposed in the current study. Attitude toward food safety showed a negative effect on perceived risks from GM food and a positive effect on perceived benefits from GM food. Also, Perceived risks from GM food presented a negative and significant effect on Attitudes towards GM food and Perceived benefits from GM food showed a positive and significant effect on Attitudes towards GM food. Finally, Attitudes towards GM food positively affected GM food purchase intention. Firms can use these outcomes to prepare new strategies for communication about their products with GM components. Also, governments can use the information to create education programs for the population about GM foods, benefits and risks. Future studies in other regions are needed.

Abstract

A new endemic species, Centaurodendron schilleri, is described from the Juan Fernández Archipelago, Chile. This is the third species of the endemic genus, Centaurodendron, which is closely related to Plectocephalus of the Chilean mainland. The new species is confined to Alejandro Selkirk Island, whereas the previously known species, C. dracaenoides and C. palmiforme, are confined to Robinson Crusoe Island. In morphological aspects, the new species is more distinct from the other two species than they are from each other. Molecular phylogenetic and biogeographic studies for island and continental species of these genera are in progress.

Se reconoce además, una frontera intra e intersubjetiva del silencio que llama a un detenimiento y reflexión ante un mundo cargado de ruidos y sonidos que no dan tiempo ni espera para la principal escucha: la de sí.

6. Alstroemeria esteparica (Alstroemeriaceae) una nueva especie para la flora del Cono Sur de Sudamérica

Abstract

Se hace un análisis morfológico y citotaxonómico de poblaciones de Alstroemeria patagonica Phil., de la estepa patagónica chilena, para aclarar dudas acerca de la variabilidad de esta entidad taxonómica. Para esto, se analizaron 3 poblaciones (Estancia Baño Nuevo, Jeinimeni y Estancia Chacabuco). Se hizo un estudio morfológico detallado en ejemplares recolectados con este fin, más muestras de los herbarios SGO y CONC. Además, se realizó un estudio citotaxonómico de las poblaciones, utilizando los cromosomas como fuente de evidencia taxonómica. Se compararon los resultados con datos de Alstroemeria pygmaea Herb. con el objetivo de esclarecer las diferencias entre estos taxones unifloros y con flores de color amarillo. El estudio da como resultado la presencia de una nueva especie de Alstroemeria para Chile y Argentina.

7. Validation of a questionnaire on the use of Interactive Response System in Higher Education

Abstract

Objetivo: this study aims to design and validate a questionnaire to measure the students’ perception of the use of IRS as a technopedagogical resource in the classroom. Method: a 24 items questionnaire (Interactive Response System for the Improvement of the Teaching-Learning Process) was designed ad hoc for this research and applied to 142 university students. Results: both the exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis yielded 3 dimensions: classroom environment, teaching-learning processes and learning assessment. The results obtained both in reliability (Cronbach’s alpha= 0.955) and in the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (χ2/df=1.944, CFI=0.97; GFI=0.78; RMR=0.077; RMSEA=0.08) reveal highly satisfactory indices. Conclusion: statistical analyses confirm that this instrument is a valid, reliable, and easy-to-apply tool for professors to evaluate the student perception of student-centred learning.

Abstract

The worldwide pandemic situation caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a state of confinement of the population, which has caused, following consulted research, an increase in stress. Faced with this situation, the Spanish university not only had to adapt to the changes derived from the causes of the pandemic but also had to face a new methodological model—e-learning teaching—for which not all teachers and students were prepared. This could cause an increase in stress due to the uncertainty caused by this time of change. This research analyzes the relationship between perceived self-efficacy in the confinement period and the level of trait anxiety (TA) and state anxiety (SA) during COVID-19. Four hundred twenty-seven students from the University of Granada (Spain) participated in this study. The adaptation of two scales that measure perceived academic self-efficacy and anxiety (TA and SA) has been applied. The results indicated that there was an inversely proportional relationship between anxiety and self-efficacy; men showed the highest perception of self-efficacy, while women had higher scores in TA and SA; the latter was accentuated in cases when a relative died. To conclude, students who show a higher level of anxiety (TA and SA) express more negative emotions and also perceive themselves with less academic self-efficacy. Therefore, a stressful situation (pandemic and confinement) together with a critical event (illness and death of a relative/friend due to COVID-19) increases anxiety levels and influences the perception of academic self-efficacy.

Abstract

Although the topic of listening provides valuable possibilities for researching from various fields, disciplines, and perspectives. It is still being the least explored topic in a hierarchy where writing and reading have occupied the first places. The present article reflects on the filiations and differentiation between the conversation and the dialogue from a research that takes the listening as a focus from several planes of analysis, among which the conversation stands out for the emphatic that it is in the recognition of the other. In addition, many authors and perspectives privilege dialogue over the conversation, a path is opened that invites the exploration of listening from the conversation at school.

Abstract

The expansion of cities promotes the replacement of local biotas with exotic species causing a decrease in global diversity. As urbanization continues to expand, efforts directed towards the conservation within urban landscapes could support regional biodiversity conservation. The biogeographic region of central Chile displays a native flora of global importance because of its high endemism. Up to date, studies analysing the composition of the floras within the cities are scarce. The present study aims at characterizing the compositional and distributional patterns of the ornamental flora of five cities of central Chile (La Serena, Valparaíso, Santiago, Rancagua, and Talca). For this purpose, we sampled several streets and squares recording all woody species. The species were then characterized by their biogeographical origin and incidence. It was recorded 302 species of which approx. 86% were exotic and 14% were native, a consistent pattern found in the five cities studied; these results contrast with the European urban flora, where native species can usually overcome 50% of the plant species. Almost half of the exotic species had their origin in Asia (including Australasia, Temperate, and Tropical Asia), Europe, and North America. Consequently, the representation of the regional flora within the urban context is low for central Chile, with the native species registered, accounting for only 0.81% of the total species described for the country. Urban habitats could support regional biodiversity conservation, so a shift towards sustainable urban planning could promote local biological conservation.

12. Nueva localidad para Avellanita bustillosii Phil. (Euphorbiaceae) en la Región de O´Higgins y su estado de conservación

Abstract

A new record for Avellanita bustillosii Phil. is added. Botanical surveys in pre-andean mountain range of O´Higgins Region leads to find a new population. Their distributional southern limit is extended about 26.5 km. This population was found between 700 and 880 masl, in the northern slope of the Retamal foothill and the slopes with eastern exposure of the Trocalán hill, both located at 11 km east of the town of Requinoa, Cachapoal Province, O´Higgins Region. This finding it´s a contribution to the taxon chorology and reveals the lack of information available about their distributional territory. This is the first population described to Central Chile pre-andean mountain range. A re-evaluation to its conservation status is provided.

Abstract

Aunque la escucha arroja valiosas posibilidades de investigación desde varios campos, disciplinas y perspectivas, sigue siendo el menos explorado en una jerarquía donde la escritura y la lectura han ocupado los primeros lugares. En el presente artículo se reflexiona sobre las filiaciones y diferenciaciones entre la conversación y el diálogo desde una pesquisa que toma como foco la escucha, a partir de varios planos de análisis, entre los que se destaca la conversación por lo enfática que es en el reconocimiento del otro. Además de observar que gran parte de autores y perspectivas privilegian el diálogo sobre la conversación, se abre un camino que invita a la exploración de la escucha desde la conversación en la escuela.

Abstract

In recent years, educational research has focused on analyzing significant differences in the academic performance of university students according to the intervention model of the traditional methodology vs. the flipped classroom. This empirical-analytical research is based on a quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent groups. The results reveal significant differences on the average grades of university students; those participating in the flipped classroom obtained higher scores than students following a traditional methodology, regardless of the specialization. Moreover, this research concludes that the flipped classroom approach offers an opportunity to transform the traditional system by improving the classroom environment, the teaching-learning process and the student’s assessment.

Abstract

El presente artículo expone los resultados de un estudio dirigido a conocer la influencia del género y el curso en la frecuencia semanal y diaria de práctica de actividad física (AF), así como en los motivos de práctica de AF que manifiestan escolares de 13-14 años de Melilla. Los participantes han sido 548 escolares (267 chicos y 281 chicas) de los cursos, 1º y 2º (13 - 14 años) de cuatro centros de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria de Melilla. Los datos se han recogido a través del cuestionario de “Hábitos de participación en Actividades Físicas”. Los resultados muestran la existencia de diferencias significativas en función del género tanto en los niveles de participación como en la importancia que conceden a los motivos que le llevan a participar en AF y en virtud de la variable curso, siendo los alumnos de 2º los que presentan niveles más bajos de participación y menor valoración de los motivos principales para la participación en AF, resultados similares a los hallados en estudios anteriores en otros contextos nacionales e internacionales.

17. Writing Using Blogs: A Way to Engage Colombian Adolescents in Meaningful Communication

Abstract

We report an action research project developed with ninth grade students of a public school in Bogotá, Colombia, and which focused on innovating English communication through writing blogs. The project took into account the implementation of a specific blog that proposes activities, suggestions, strategies and links, among other things, to increase communication in English. It also prompted the written production of students in the blogs when posting entries and communicating through them. Some aspects of the project were developed in the classroom; others in the computers room, and others were developed by the students independently or collaboratively with classmates. Findings show how students communicated through writing in blogs and the main characteristics of the interaction that took place when using them.

Abstract

A partir de 1985 comienzan los esfuerzos del Estado de Chile, con el apoyo de especialistas, para generar listas de especies de plantas (1985) y animales (1987) con altos a moderados riesgos de extinción en el corto plazo producto de actividades antrópicas (i.e., especies amenazadas). Las siete categorías de amenazas utilizadas para la fauna coinciden con las empleadas por la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN) en 1982; para la flora hubo coincidencia en solo cinco de las categorías utilizadas. En el año 1994, la Ley 19300 de Bases del Medio Ambiente estableció seis categorías de estados de conservación. El Reglamento para la Clasificación de Especies Silvestres, promulgado el 2005, definió estas seis categorías haciendo una combinación entre lo propuesto por la UICN en 2001 y 1982. La generación de este sistema híbrido que no era comparable con el utilizado ampliamente en el mundo, restringió severamente la posibilidad de clasificar a las especies con amenaza inferior al nivel de Vulnerable. Complicaciones adicionales se generaron con la inclusión de categorías de conservación en la Ley 19473 de Caza (1996), la Ley 20283 sobre Recuperación del Bosque Nativo y Fomento Forestal (2008), y sus respectivos reglamentos. La Ley 20417 (publicada el 26 de enero 2010) modificó la ley 19300 e incorporó las categorías recomendadas por la UICN. Ahora el Estado requiere adecuar varios cuerpos legales para avanzar en el conocimiento del estado de conservación de la flora y la fauna nacional, y consecuentemente, asegurar la implementación de medidas efectivas de protección de la biodiversidad.Since 1985, the Chilean government with the participation and support of different specialists in plant and animal conservation, started the publication of checklists (i.e. red books) of plant (1985) and animal species (1987) with high to modérate risk of extinction due to human activities (i.e. threatened species). The seven categories of threats used in these publications matched those used by the International Unión for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 1982; nonetheless, for the flora there was matching only in five of the categories used. In 1994, the Law 19300 on the General Bases of the Environment established six categories of conservation status. The regulations for the classification of the wild species in Conservation categories, enacted in 2005, defined these six categories, which resulted from a combination of those proposed by the IUCN in 2001 and 1982. The generation of this hybrid system, which is not fully comparable with that of the IUCN (2001) and widely used in the rest of the world, has severely restricted the possibility of classifying species with a threat level lower than "Vulnerable". Further complications were generated due to the definition of conservation categories that appeared in the Laws 19473 (1996) regulating the hunting activity and 20283 (2008) supporting the native forest recovery and forestry development. The Law 20417 (enacted in January 26, 2010) modified the Law 19300 and incorporated the categories recommended by IUCN. Currently, the State requires adapting several legal bodies to advance in the knowledge of the conservation status of the nation's flora and fauna, and consequently, ensure the implementation of effective efforts to protect our biodiversity.

Se citan por primera vez como elementos de la flora vascular de Chile a las cactáceas, Maihuenia patagónica (Phil.) Britton & Rose y Pterocactus australis (FA.C.Weber) Backeb. Además se entregan nuevos antecedentes sobre distribución y ecología de otras tres especies de Cactaceae presentes en la Región de Aisén. Todas ellas han sido registradas para Chile exclusivamente para la región, en la ribera sur del lago General Carrera. Se detallan descripciones, distribuciones, flora y vegetación asociada, aspectos ecológicos y se propone una clasificación de sus estados de conservación en Chile.Maihuenia patagónica (Phil.) Britton & Rose ana Pterocactus australis (F.A.C.Weber) Backeb. are pointed for the first time in to the Chilean vascular flora. Furthermore, it is given new information about the distribution and ecology of other three species of Cactaceae located at Aisen Region. All species were registered in Chile only on the southern edge of the General Carrera Lake, in the region. There is included for each species a detailed description, their distribution, flora and associated vegetation, ecological aspects and it is proposed a classification about their conservation status in Chile.

20. Triatoma mexicana (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) in Guanajuato, Mexico: house infestation and seasonal variation

Abstract

Triatoma mexicana was described by Herrich-Schaeffer in 1848. In 1940, a male specimen was found in Hidalgo. In 1970, this species was recorded in the state of Queretaro. Later, it was registered in Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi. In the present paper we performed an investigation in 545 dwellings from three counties in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, from March 2003 to May 2004. The search and capture of triatomines were seasonally performed indoors and outdoors. Entomological indexes were calculated. The risk and no risk relations between triatomine presence and housing construction materials were analyzed. Fourteen triatomines were collected indoors and 151 outdoors. The vectors were collected in houses built with either risky and non-risky materials. Adults go indoors but do not settle there, hence, no relationship was found between the building materials and infestation of houses. Conventional interventions like house improvement or insecticide spraying are not efficient for the control of T. mexicana, because its developmental cycle is accomplished outdoors in the area surrounding the houses.

Las dificultades que presentan los niños en la lectura y escritura, se dan en el transcurso de la vida escolar, y conllevan a que muchos de los niños tengan un aprendizaje cada vez más lento y con mayor dificultad. Existen factores que inciden en la manifestación de estas alteraciones que han sido estudiadas y analizados por diversos autores los cuales se abordaran en el presente articulo. La lectura y escritura requieren de una organización del procesamiento de información de diversos tipos, como la información perceptual, motriz, lingüística y cognitiva, los cuales permiten desarrollar mejores capacidades lecto-escritas. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que el niño se desarrolla en forma diferenciada, pues un niño puede estar preparado para leer y escribir desde el punto de vista cronológico con base en el desarrollo de sus funciones perceptivas y psicomotoras, pero no en sus aspectos del desarrollo cognitivo y lingüístico. (Alliande F. y Conde Marín M, 2000). La teoría perceptivo motriz hace referencia a que el niño debe poseer habilidades de percepción visual, auditiva y táctil, para lograr la adquisición y posterior desarrollo de la lectura y escritura. La teoría lingüística cognitiva como base de la lectura y escritura plantea un modelo de arquitectura funcional con base en procesos o rutas léxicas, semánticas y sintácticas, las cuales se dan de manera jerárquica, estableciendo patrones de evolución soportadas unas en otras. Se trata entonces de establecer qué conceptos respaldan cada una de estas teorías y cuál tiene mayor relevancia cuando de lectura y escritura se refiere.

En la interacción huésped-parasitoide las plantas suelen emitir señales capaces de aumentar la eficiencia de los parasitoides. Las larvas de Crocidosema (=Epinotia) aporema (Walsingham) se alimentan endofíticamente de leguminosas herbáceas y constituyen una plaga de la soja (Glycine max Merrill). En este estudio analizamos el parasitismo larval de C. aporema en Melilotus albus Medikus, Galega officinalis L, Lupinus albus L y G. max, en el noreste de Buenos Aires. La densidad larval fue mayor en L. albus (109,2 larvas/m²) que en las restantes leguminosas: 3,7; 6,9 y 11,3 en M. albus, G. officinalis y G. max, respectivamente. Sin embargo, el parasitismo y número de especies parasitoides fueron menores en L. albus (9,5% por el ectoparasitoide generalista Bracon sp.) que en M. albus (32,6%, Bracon sp. y los endoparasitoides Trathala sp.y Bassus sp.); G. officinalis y G. max (26,4% y 50,6% respectivamente, con Trathala sp. y Bracon sp. en ambas). Lupinus albus fue la única especie vegetal que reaccionó a la alimentación de C. aporema con producción de exudados pegajosos y olorosos que podrían haber repelido los endoparasitoides, actuando como un refugio parcial para C. aporema. Además, al ser positivamente seleccionada por C. aporema, esta leguminosa podría utilizarse como franja trampa para su control en cultivos de soja, de manera compatible con tácticas de control biológico por conservación de enemigos naturales.In host-parasitoid interactions, parasitoid efficiency may be increased by different quantity and quality of plant signals. Crocidosema (=Epinotia) aporema (Walsingham) is a pest on soybean, with larvae feeding endophitically on various herbaceous leguminosae. In this study we analyzed larval parasitism of C. aporema on Melilotus albus Medikus, Galega officinalis L, Lupinus albus L and Glycine max Merrill in the north-east of the Buenos Aires province. Larval density was higher on L. albus (109,2 larvae/m²), than on the other leguminosae: 3,7; 6,9 y 11,3 on M. albus, G. officinalis and G. max, respectively. However, larval parasitism and the number of parasitoid species were lower on L. albus (9,5%, by the generalist ectoparasitoid Bracon sp.) than on M. albus (32,6%, Bracon sp. and the endoparasitoids Trathala sp.and Bassus sp.); G. officinalis and G. max (26,4% and 50,6% respectively, by Trathala sp. and Bracon sp. in both cases). The much higher concentration of C. aporema on L. albus suggests this leguminosae could be used as a trap crop for control of C. aporema on soybean plots, method compatible with other tactics of conservative biological control.

Abstract

Three different interventions to control Triatoma dimidiata in the State of Veracruz were implemented: X-1 = whole dwelling spraying, X-2 = middle wall spraying, X-3 = household cleaning. Cyfluthrin was sprayed 3 times with 8 month intervals. After each spraying, insects were collected and sent to the laboratory to be recorded and to determine genus and species of the adult triatomine bugs, and nymphs were counted. Trypanosoma cruzi presence was determined. With X-1, the infestation, colonization, and natural infection indexes were reduced to 0% in the 3 localities, with respect to t0. With X-2, the infestation index was reduced to 10% at t3 in 3 localities; the colonization index was reduced to 0% in only 1 locality at t3, and the natural infection index was reduced to 0% at t3. With X-3 the 3 indexes were not effectively reduced but they decreased with respect to the baseline study. Insecticide application to the whole dwelling is a more efficient intervention than its application to only the lower half of the walls and to the cleaning of houses.

Abstract

Capillary gas-liquid chromatography was used to analyse the cuticular hydrocarbons of three triatomine species, Triatoma dimidiata, T. barberi and Dipetalogaster maxima, domestic vectors of Chagas disease in Mexico. Mixtures of saturated hydrocarbons of straight and methyl-branched chains were characteristic of the three species, but quantitatively different. Major methylbranched components mostly corresponded to different saturated isomers of monomethyl, dimethyl and trimethyl branched hydrocarbons ranging from 29 to 39 carbon backbones. Sex-dependant, quantitative differences in certain hydrocarbons were apparent in T. dimidiata.

RESUMEN: En este artículo mostramos cómo el ejercicio de una supervisión reflexiva estimula la reflexión en los alumnos tutorizados y en el propio supervisor durante el periodo de Practicum. Para comprobarlo, nos basamos en la metodología de estudio de caso, estudiando cuatro casos, compuestos, cada uno de ellos, por el supervisor y el alumno universitario. Practicaron un modelo de supervisión que requería poner en juego ciertas operaciones cognitivas, conducentes a estimular la reflexión. Las sesiones de trabajo fueron grabadas y la información obtenida, finalizada su puesta en práctica, se redujo recurriendo al análisis de contenido. A través del programa de análisis de datos AQUAD, aplicamos el análisis de Implicantes para descubrir cuáles eran los requisitos que favorecían la aparición de las acciones reflexivas (categorías/criterios). Se empleó el mapa conceptual como instrumento evaluador del incremento de la reflexión. La conclusión fue que si se supervisa de forma reflexiva, se estimulan determinadas operaciones cognitivas (acciones reflexivas) y se aumenta la reflexividad en el alumno y en el supervisor.ABSTRACT: In this article, we show the importance of reflexive supervisión during the Prácticum (Student Teaching) to encourage reflexivity in university students and in the supervisors themselves. We analyse four cases, each involving a supervisor and a university student. They were trained to apply a model of supervisión requiring cognitive processes that favour reflection. The work sessions were recorded. We conducted a content and implicants analysis using AQUAD. The results show that some reflexive actions such as «categories» and «criteria» were required for increasing reflection. We used a conceptual map to assess whether reflective supervisión increases reflection. The model was very successful and encouraged reflexivity in both the student and the supervisor.RÉSUMÉ: Dans cet article, on montre comment l'exercice d'une supervisión reflexive stimule la reflexión chez les étudiants assistés par un tuteur et chez le propre superviseur pendant la période du Prácticum. Pour le démontrer, la méthodologie des études de cas a été adoptée et quatre cas -composés chacun du superviseur et de l'étudiant universitaire- ont été analysés. Le modele de supervisión pratiqué demandait la mise en jeux de certaines opérations cognitives conduisant a stimuler la reflexión. Les sessions de travail ont été enregistrées et l'information obtenue a été réduite par l'analyse des contenus, une fois la mise en pratiqué finie. Au moyen du programme d'analyse de données AQUAD, l'analyse d'Impliquants a été utilisée pour découvrir quelles étaient les conditions favorisant l'apparition des actions réflexives (catégories/critéres). La carte conceptuelle a été employée comme instrument d'évaluation de l'augmentation de la reflexión. Se evaluó la viabilidad de tratamiento biológico para el efluente del matadero del municipio de El Tambo (Cauca) y se propuso la implementación de pro- cesos de producción más limpia (PML) en cuanto al uso del agua y algunos subproductos generados por esta central de sacrificio. Se llevaron a cabo jornadas de inspección sanitaria, aforos de caudal, cuantificación volumétrica de subproductos y análisis fisicoquímicos que incluyen: DBO5, DQO, SST, nitrógeno total, fósforo total, grasas y aceites, temperatura y pH. Se registra un elevado consumo de agua: 200 litros/cerdo y 1880 litros/res (superiores a los promedios del matadero de Popayán-Cauca: 100 L/cerdo y 500 L/res); valores de parámetros de contaminación: 9024 mg/L DQO, 1829 mg/L DBO5, 1357 mg/L SST, 889 mg/L N, 26 mg/L P, 79 mg/L de grasas y aceites, pH de 7.6. Producción de 23 L/bovino de rumen y 28 L/bovino de sangre. El efluente es de difícil biodegradabilidad; sin embargo, el tratamiento biológico anaeróbico es viable mediante una eliminación previa de grasas y rumen, colectándolos por separado mediante un estricto tratamiento preliminar. Antes del diseño de la planta de tratamiento de agua residual deben implementarse procesos de PML, con el fin de reducir el gasto masivo de agua y buscar una adecuada disposición y buen uso de subproductos.

La convivencia en los centros educativos es una preocupación constante de todas las partes implicadas en la formación del alumnado. Es un fenómeno muy complejo, con muchos factores a tener en cuenta. Varios estudios indican que existe un gran desencuentro entre lo que los docentes y los alumnos ven y viven en las aulas, ya que, en numerosas ocasiones, los primeros afirman haber intervenido en conductas disruptivas que los discentes declaran no haber percibido. En este artículo se pone de manifiesto la percepción que los propios profesores tienen de estas realidades y cuáles son sus mecanismos para resolver estos comportamientos. En nuestro trabajo han participado 413 profesores de Educación Primaria y Secundaria. Hemos utilizado una metodología de tipo descriptivo a través del método de encuesta, con un cuestionario elaborado ad hoc con el objetivo de obtener información sobre cuestiones relacionadas con la convivencia escolar y las situaciones conflictivas que se pueden producir en el centro. Los resultados indican que los profesores de Secundaria perciben mayor número de conductas problemáticas que los de Primaria. Además, estos últimos emplean en mayor medida técnicas preventivas y punitivas ante situaciones conflictivas, mientras que los de Secundaria utilizan más medidas sancionadoras. Se hace la descripción morfológica y mediciones de los granos de polen en base a observaciones en el microscopio óptico y detalles de superficies de los mismos y fotografías en el microscopio electrónico de barrido (SEM). Se describen los granos de pólenes de 33 especies amenazadas, de las cuales 32 son endémicas y una es nativa.

Abstract

La inteligencia interpersonal es la capacidad que tiene una persona de relacionarse, comunicar e interactuar, es decir nos permite entender e interpretar las intenciones de los demás, es así que el presente trabajo de investigación permitió determinar la relación entre la inteligencia interpersonal y las capacidades profesionales en estudiantes de la carrera de Enfermería Técnica del Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Público “La Merced” – Chanchamayo (Perú). Las personas de este estudio fueron 82 estudiantes de los tres semestres I, III y V del periodo 2016- I. El diseño empleado fue correlacional. Se aplicó el instrumento test de la medición inteligencia emocional (ICE). Para la capacidad profesional se trabajó con el promedio de las notas finales de las actas de evaluación 2016 -I. El estadístico empleado fue el coeficiente de correlación de Chi-cuadrado de Pearson. Se concluye que no existe relación directa significativa entre inteligencia emocional interpersonal y el logro de capacidades profesionales, evidenciado en los estudiantes de la carrera profesional de enfermería técnica.

Abstract

Background: Despite advances in surgery and pharmacotherapy, there remains significant residual ischemic risk after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. Methods: In REDUCE-IT (Reduction of Cardiovascular Events With Icosapent Ethyl–Intervention Trial), a multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial, statin-treated patients with controlled low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and mild to moderate hypertriglyceridemia were randomized to 4 g daily of icosapent ethyl or placebo. They experienced a 25% reduction in risk of a primary efficacy end point (composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization, or hospitalization for unstable angina) and a 26% reduction in risk of a key secondary efficacy end point (composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke) when compared with placebo. The current analysis reports on the subgroup of patients from the trial with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting. Results: Of the 8179 patients randomized in REDUCE-IT, a total of 1837 (22.5%) had a history of coronary artery bypass grafting, with 897 patients randomized to icosapent ethyl and 940 to placebo. Baseline characteristics were similar between treatment groups. Randomization to icosapent ethyl was associated with a significant reduction in the primary end point (hazard ratio [HR], 0.76 [95% CI, 0.63–0.92]; P =0.004), in the key secondary end point (HR, 0.69 [95% CI, 0.56–0.87]; P =0.001), and in total (first plus subsequent or recurrent) ischemic events (rate ratio, 0.64 [95% CI, 0.50–0.81]; P =0.0002) compared with placebo. This yielded an absolute risk reduction of 6.2% (95% CI, 2.3%–10.2%) in first events, with a number needed to treat of 16 (95% CI, 10–44) during a median follow-up time of 4.8 years. Safety findings were similar to the overall study: beyond an increased rate of atrial fibrillation/flutter requiring hospitalization for at least 24 hours (5.0% vs 3.1%; P =0.03) and a nonsignificant increase in bleeding, occurrences of adverse events were comparable between groups. Conclusions: In REDUCE-IT patients with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting, treatment with icosapent ethyl was associated with significant reductions in first and recurrent ischemic events. Abstract

Este artículo de corte ensayístico presentacalgunas reflexiones consideradas desde tres momentos y entornos determinantes de la oralidad. En primer lugar se hace referencia a lo netamente oral. En seguida se menciona un entorno de oralidad secundaria, condicionada por la escritura. En el tercero la oralidad y la escritura se emulsionan con formas propias de la era electrónica, en la que lo audiovisual y lo virtual marcan nuevos rumbos de comprensión e interacción. Esta mirada sobre las variaciones y transformaciones de la oralidad, en esos tres momentos referidos, evidencian que la lectura y la escucha, como procesos de recepción, quedan, generalmente, subsumidos a los procesos de producción: escritura y habla. Por ello, se invita al silencio como camino de la escucha (de sí, los otros y lo otro), que permite que cualquier réplica necesaria y subsiguiente tenga mayor impacto y profundidad.

Abstract

Mixed martial arts (MMA) has always been surrounded by controversy due to the unusual muscle development of its participants, so it is crucial to know the strategies that have been implemented to reduce doping cases. The main purpose of this paper is to describe the various cases of doping detected by USADA in UFC MMA participants. In addition, strategies that are being developed to reduce cases of positive doping are proposed. From the UFC USADA database, doping cases were extracted, obtaining the substance or substances involved; the formula, physiological effect and the athletes involved; the dates of the sampling; if it was out of competition or in-competition and the sanction time. The substances that were most involved were found to be Ostarine (22), Clomiphene (9), Diuretics (10) and Stanozolol (9). Some sanctions were diminished because they were treated with contamination of supplements (cases of Ostarine) and cases of contamination of meat (Clomiphene). When contaminated supplements were reported, they were added to the list of high-risk supplements maintained as part of USADA’s online dietary supplement safety education and awareness resource—Supplement 411. There were also cases in which positive doping could be avoided through the early report of therapeutic use exemptions. The methodology that the USADA has implemented allows us to register the athletes with positive doping, check the risk of the supplements before being bought and provide a teaching portal. These efforts are necessary to implement in all countries in which MMA is practiced, avoiding the participation of doped martial artists.

Abstract

Satellite images provide information on land cover, these will depend on the spatial resolution for analysis, in this paper we present a technique for image analysis based on edge detection using sobel-based detectors, in their different shapes. High-resolution satellite images provide a level of detail of land cover in the submetric range, which is equivalent to detecting objects that measure less than 1 meter on average, which is interpreted in one pixel in the image; With the analysis of high resolution images, objects such as ships can be determined, which are found in ports as well as on the high seas. Edge detectors applied to objects present in high resolution images help in the analysis of the morphology of the object. In the present study, high resolution images corresponding to boats were analyzed, which allows determining the contour of the boat with respect to sea water. The application of sobel-based edge detectors and their different shapes allowed determining a greater number of areas that corresponds to the perimeter of the ship. The results of the present work can be used in pattern recognition techniques to determine the characteristics of the objects to be analyzed. Breña

Se efectúo una breve caracterización ambiental de las comunidades vegetales con presencia de Avellanita bustillosii descritas el año 2018. El sitio se encuentra ubicado a 11 km de la localidades de Gultro y Requínoa, Región de O'Higgins. Se describen condiciones ambientales, vegetación, flora asociada, se cuentan los individuos en los fragmentos de bosque esclerófilo registrados y usos de avellanita. Lo anterior con el fin de incrementar el conocimiento ecológico de esta especie con el fin de aportar a los planes de conservación o restauración de las comunidades donde cohabita.

Abstract

A new species of Megalachne (Poaceae) endemic to Alejandro Selkirk Island, Juan Fernandez Archipelago, Chile, is described and illustrated, based on morphological characters. This species is differentiated from others of the genus by its long lemma awn (5–8.5 cm) and by the number of flowers in the spikelet (2–4). The taxon has been reported previously for Juan Fernandez endemic flora, but without formal description.

Abstract

The effects of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, are causing the development of medical implements and equipment quickly, in some cases due to the emergency situation authorizations are being granted for the manufacture, marketing and use. In many cases these developments are motivated by a local need that can help mitigate the effects of COVID-19. Abstract

Online classes have become in these times of pandemic by COVID-19, an alternative to continue studying; applied at all educational levels, from schoolchildren to postgraduate studies through University and Technical studies. This study evaluates the levels of attention and meditation applied to children from 8 to 12 years old, when they are doing their virtual classes, using a BCI device, which is installed on the children's head like a headband. Through which the level of attention and meditation is evaluated at the time of taking their classes online. The results show that children when they start their classes have a higher level of concentration compared to when the class is in the middle where children begin to decrease their level of concentration due to distraction, thus increasing their level of meditation. It is concluded that children tend to be distracted when they reach, on average, half the assigned time, this decrease in the concentration level caused by distracting agents, who are at home. Product of the little conditioning that the homes present to carry out academic activities, it is recommended at the time of the virtual classes, it is possible to eliminate, as far as possible these distracting agents, to improve the level of attention and with it a better use of the classes online, it is also recommended that a home environment for these activities be conditioned as much as possible, although being confined at home causes a change in study habits, they must adapt to new ways and one of these is the development of activities that correspond to online classes. Abstract

Teniendo en cuenta la poca investigación sobre el tema de la escucha en la escuela, se plantea la búsqueda de características de la escucha desde la conversación, tomando como referente primordial las conversaciones sostenidas con maestros de primaria en la ciudad de Bogotá. Los planos teóricos principales se sitúan a partir de la voz, la conversación y algunos aspectos éticos que atraviesan la escucha. La entrevista conversacional ofrece el aporte metodológico desde el que se entrelazan las percepciones de los maestros con los que se conversó, con la visión y las perspectivas que dan los autores mismos que sustentan el trabajo en general. Todo esto permite situarnos en la escucha como experiencia en ámbitos escolares, además de encauzar una necesaria reflexión sobre aspectos éticos desde la escucha y la conversación en la escuela.
