Objective: Neck and back pains are frequent pathologies and constitute a public health issue. When it comes to chronic condition, a special care is required, which includes physiotherapy. Global Postural Reeducation (GPR), developed by Philippe Souchard, is a holistic approach aimed to stretch muscles chains with different postures. The objective of this review is to investigate the impact of GPR on these pathologies. Method: A qualitative analysis was conducted, after consultation of Pubmed, Cochrany Library, ResearchGate, Kinedoc and PEDro databases. Outcomes were pain, flexibility, disability (for neck pain) and functionnal capacity (for low back pain). Results: Six randomized controlled trials were selected, including three for neck pain and three for low back pain, totalling 313 patients. Of the three studies about neck pain, two showed statistically significant results in favour of a reduction of pain intensity in the short term. However, results were not statistically significant for disability and flexibility. Concerning low back pain, none of the included studies allows to conclude that GPR is effective in terms of pain, flexibility and functionnal capacity. Conclusion: GPR seems to be effective in the special care of non-specific chronic neck pain in terms of pain management, however additional studies are needed to invest the effects of this technique in the long term.; Objectif : la cervicalgie et la lombalgie sont des pathologies répandues, constituant un problème de santé publique. Lorsque ces pathologies sont chroniques, elles nécessitent une prise en charge, notamment kinésithérapique. La rééducation posturale globale (RPG), développée par Philippe Souchard, est une approche holistique ayant pour but d’étirer les chaines neuro-musculaires, à l’aide de posture. Le but de cette revue est d’étudier l’intérêt de la RPG dans la prise en charge de ces pathologies. Méthode : une analyse qualitative a été réalisée, après consultations des bases de données Pubmed, Cochrane Library, ResearchGate, Kinédoc et PEDro. Les critères de jugement étaient la douleur, la flexibilité, l’incapacité fonctionnelle (pour la cervicalgie) et la capacité fonctionnelle (pour la lombalgie). Résultats : six essais cliniques randomisés ont été sélectionnés, dont trois pour la cervicalgie et trois pour la lombalgie, incluant au total 313 patients. Sur les trois études s’intéressant à la cervicalgie, deux présentent des résultats statistiquement significatifs en faveur d’une diminution de la douleur à court terme. Les résultats ne sont cependant pas statistiquement significatifs pour l’incapacité fonctionnelle et la flexibilité. Concernant la lombalgie, aucune des études incluses ne permet de conclure que la RPG est efficace en termes de douleur, flexibilité et capacité fonctionnelle. Conclusion : la RPG semble être efficace dans la prise en charge des cervicalgies chroniques non spécifiques en termes de gestion de la douleur, cependant des études supplémentaires sont nécessaires afin d’étudier les effets de cette technique sur le long terme.

Introduction: Both nonspecific chronic lumbar pain and urinary incontinence are common problems in women. Many studies have shown a relationship between the two, which exists between both senses: a person who only presents with lumbar pain at the beginning, is likely to develop urinary incontinence and a person with only urinary incontinence alone will be more likely to suffer after lumbar pain. In both cases, Global Postural Reeducation and Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics have already been shown to be effective in treating one or the other of these two pathologies. This study aims to show the benefit of these techniques to treat these two pathologies at the same time. Objective: The main objectives of this study are to measure the effectiveness of the techniques of Global Postural Reeducation and Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics on both lumbar pain and urinary incontinence in women suffering from these two pathologies. Material and method: A 1-year treatment was performed on 154 women aged 20 to 65 years suffering from both urinary incontinence and nonspecific chronic lumbar pain. Patients will be randomly divided into two groups. Each group will perform a first treatment session with one of the two techniques, then 6 months later, will perform the other technique. So we can compare their pain levels, their amounts of urine loss, their qualities of life, functional abilities, perceptions of movement, tonicity of the pelvic floor muscles, and their visions of their sexualities; before and after treatments. Expected results: We hope to find a significant improvement in the level of lumbar pain, a decrease in the amount of urine loss, an increase in tone, an increase in the quality of life and functional capacity. We also wanted to find an improved perception of movement, so an improved sex life. Conclusion: This study could allow a better therapeutic management, more common and global, in the case of these two pathologies. The Global Postural Reeducation and Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics, could allow at the same time to reduce the lumbar pains and thus increase the functional capacity, the ability to move or even the sexual life of the patients; but also, to decrease urinary leakage by increasing the toning of the pelvic floor muscles. Introducción: Tanto el dolor lumbar crónico inespecífico como la incontinencia urinaria son problemas frecuentes en mujeres. Muchos estudios han demostrado una relación entre las dos, que existe entre ambos sentidos: una persona que solo presenta dolor lumbar al inicio, tiene una alta probabilidad de desarrollar incontinencia urinaria y una persona únicamente con incontinencia urinaria sola tendrá más probabilidad de sufrir después de dolor lumbar. En los dos casos, la Reeducación Postural Global y de Gimnasia Abdominal Hipopresiva ya han demostrado ser efectivas para tratar una u otra de estas dos patologías. Este estudio pretende mostrar el beneficio de estas técnicas para tratar estas dos patologías al mismo tiempo. Objetivo: Los objetivos principales de este estudio son de medir la eficacia de las técnicas de Reeducación Postural Global y de la Gimnasia Abdominal Hipopresiva sobre tanto el dolor lumbar que de la incontinencia urinaria en las mujeres sufriendo de estas dos patologías. Material y método: Se realizó un tratamiento de 1 año, sobre 154 mujeres de 20 a 65 años sufriendo tanto de incontinencia urinaria como de dolor lumbar crónico inespecífico. Las pacientes serán divididas de manera aleatoria en dos grupos. Cada grupo realizará una primera sesión de tratamiento con una de las dos técnicas, luego 6 meses más tarde, realizará la otra técnica. Así podremos comparar sus niveles de dolor, sus cantidades de perdida de orina, sus calidades de vida, capacidades funcionales, percepciones del movimiento, tonicidades de los músculos del suelo pélvico, y sus visiones de sus sexualidades; antes y después de los tratamientos. Resultados esperados: Esperamos encontrar una mejora significativa al nivel del dolor lumbar, una disminución de la cantidad de perdida de orina, un aumento de la tonicidad, un aumento de la calidad de vida y de la capacidad funcional. También queríamos encontrar une mejora de la percepción del movimiento, así que una mejora de la vida sexual. Conclusión: Dada la estrecha relación existente entre el dolor lumbar y la incontinencia urinaria, este estudio podría permitir una mejor gestión terapéutica, más común y más global. Estas técnicas podrían permitir a la vez disminuir los dolores lumbares y aumentar así la capacidad funcional, la capacidad de movimiento o incluso la vida sexual de las pacientes; sino también para disminuir las fugas urinarias mediante el aumento de la tonificación de los músculos del suelo pélvico.

Background: Chronic nonspecific neck pain is the most frequent form of neck pain. It is more prevalent in women, and a costly public health issue. It is commonly associated with biomechanical, functional, proprioceptive, and postural impairments. The aim of this trial is to compare the effects of global postural exercises versus specific therapeutic exercises on neck pain, disability, mobility, pressure pain threshold, kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, postural control, and neuromuscular efficiency in women with chronic nonspecific neck pain. Methods and analysis: This study is a randomized, parallel-group and single blinded clinical trial. Sixty-two women with nonspecific chronic neck pain were recruited from the community of Guarda, Portugal, and randomly assigned to one of two intervention groups: (1) global postural reeducation (GPR group), (2) specific therapeutic exercises (STE group). The intervention was carried out over 4 weeks, with two sessions per week (eight sessions), and applied by a physiotherapist and paired with a daily individual at-home-exercise program. Primary outcomes are neck pain intensity and disability (Numerical Pain Rating Scale, Neck Disability Index). Secondary outcomes are cervical mobility and pressure pain threshold (CROM, algometry), attitude to pain (kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing), standing postural control (Center of Pressure (COP) displacements), and neuromuscular efficiency (electromyography). There are four points of evaluation where the outcomes were assessed twice before the intervention, 1 week apart, and the two post-intervention assessments will be carried out after four and eight sessions. The objective was to increase scientific knowledge of different exercise modalities, such as global postural reeducation, in musculoskeletal disorders. Hallux abducto valgus (HAV) is a common musculoskeletal disorder that has been addressed surgically. Nevertheless, the manual therapy approach may play an important role in the management of this condition. The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of global postural reeducation (GPR) in subjects with symptomatic mild to moderate HAV in static postural control, dynamic stability, and ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM). A total of 80 patients with mild to moderate symptomatic HAV were allocated to the intervention group (GPR) or control group (CG) (no treatment) for 8 weeks. Outcome measures were assessed at baseline at 4 and 8 weeks including static postural control (Romberg test), dynamic balance (Star Excursion Balance Test [SEBT]), and ankle DFROM (Weight-Bearing Lunge Test [WBLT]). No improvements were observed at 4 weeks, but there were improvements at 8 weeks in: static postural control mediolateral displacement (X) of center of pressure (CoP) in both eyes open (EO) and eyes closed (EC): XEO (t(36) = 2.892, p = .006, d = 0.67); XEC (t(68) = 2.280, p = .026, d = 054); and velocity (V) of CoP displacement: VEO (t(68) = 2.380, p = .020, d = 0.57); VEC (t(36) = 2.057, p = .047, d = 0.37). Pregunta de investigación: ¿Tiene más efectividad la RPG que estiramientos pasivos extraídos del yoga en el tratamiento de alteraciones posturales de personas con discapacidad visualpara la mejora de la calidad de vida, el equilibrio y la postura estática? Objetivo: Evaluar la efectividad de la RPG en la mejora de la postura estática en personas con discapacidad visual en comparación con estiramientos activos extraídos del yoga. Metodología: Se realizará un estudio experimental de tipo ensayo clínico aleatorizado controlado de doble ciego. Se llevará a cabo durante el año 2021. La muestra estará formada por afiliados de la delegación de la ONCE en La Rioja. El grupo control recibirá como intervención la aplicación de estiramientos activos extraídos de la disciplina del yoga. El grupo experimental recibirá como intervención la RPG. Tendrá una duración de 10 semanas, con una valoración pre y post intervención. Para la evaluación serán utilizadas la escala INICIO-FEAPS para la medir la calidad de vida, la herramienta SAM, para medir la postura estática y la escala mBBS para el equilibrio. Research question: Is GPR more effective than passive stretching extracted from yoga in the treatment of postural alterations in people with visual impairment for the improvement of quality of life, balance and static posture? Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of GPR in the improvement of static posture in people with visual impairment in comparison with active stretching extracted from yoga. Methodology: An experimental study will be conducted as a randomized controlled double-blind clinical trial. It will be carried out during the year 2021. The sample will be made up of members of the ONCE delegation in La Rioja. The control group will receive as an intervention the application of active stretching extracted from the discipline of yoga. The experimental group will receive as an intervention the GPR. It will have a duration of 10 weeks, with a pre-and post-intervention assessment. For the evaluation, the INICIO-FEAPS scale will be used to measure quality of life, the SAM tool to measure static posture and the mBBS for balance.

This article belongs to the Special Issue Spondyloarthritis: From Pathophysiology to Treatment., The aim of this study was to determine the role of global postural reeducation for people with ankylosing spondylitis. We compared the effects of treatments on pain, dysfunction (using the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index), range of motion, and chest expansion in a specific population aged over 18 years old with ankylosing spondylitis. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statements. The search was conducted using the PubMed, Physiotherapy Database (PEDro), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), and Web of Science (WoS) databases. Clinical trials and systematic reviews/meta-analysis were reviewed. Results: 154 studies were found. Finally, four were included. Conclusions: global postural reeducation is beneficial for ankylosing spondylitis, but no more so than other conventional treatments, except for spinal mobility, where Global Postural Reeducation demonstrated an advantage.

WOS: 000460934000001 PubMed: 30412478 OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combination therapy with global postural reeducation exercise (GPR) and anti-TNF treatments on clinical parameters in patients with active Ankylosing spondylitis (AS). MATERIALS AND METHOD: Sixty patients with active AS were distributed into three groups. Group 1 was given anti-TNF therapy plus GPR program. Group 2 was given anti-TNF and conventional exercise therapy. Group 3 was accepted as the control group. Patients were assessed according to pain, disease activity (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index), functionality (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index and walking performance), mobility (lumbar Schober, chest expansion, hand-finger to floor distance), fatigue (Multidimensional Assessment Questionnaire), sleep quality (Pittsburgh sleep quality index), and depression. RESULTS: The parameters were significantly improved in both groups receiving exercise and anti-TNF therapy compared to the control group after treatment. The anti-TNF plus GPR exercise therapy resulted in greater improvements than the anti-TNF plus conventional exercise therapy in pain, walking performance, and mobility. CONCLUSIONS: Anti-TNF therapy and exercise were efficient in both groups on improving all clinic parameters. However, the improvements in pain, function, and mobility were greater in the active AS patients with GPR exercise method. Therefore, motivated patients should be encouraged to perform this method.

Objective: To quantify body weight distribution (BWD) in seated posture with an office chair instrumented with load cells and to evaluate the effects of ergonomic advice and Global Postural Reeducation (GPR) on seated BWD and on musculoskeletal pain. Methods: Nineteen healthy females were randomly assigned: nine to the experimental group and 10 to the control group. Control group (CG) received only ergonomic verbal advice (EVA) regarding BWD in a seated position. Experimental group (EG) also received EVA and furthermore attended eight GPR sessions. Difference in the effects of the different therapeutic approaches was investigated using the non-parametric Wilcoxon- Mann-Whitney test. Projeto de Graduação apresentado à Universidade Fernando Pessoa como parte dos requisitos para obtenção do grau de Licenciado em Fisioterapia Objetivo: Realizar uma revisao bibliográfica para tentar perceber os efeitos dos tratamentos com técnicas baseadas na reeducação postural global (RPG), em indivíduos com diagnóstico de disfunção temporo mandibular (DTM). Metodologia: Pesquisa nas bases de dados da PubMed, PEDro, Scielo, Ebsco e Cochrane library para conhecer os resultados e os aconselhamentos dos autores que utilizaram a técnica sobre uma amostra com DTM. Critérios de inclusão: estudos publicados com um limite temporal de 10 anos (2007 e 2017), com idioma em Inglês e português, sobre estudos randomizados controlados e não randomizados, em humanos, onde foi utilizado o método de RPG em doentes com disfunção da ATM. Critérios de exclusão: foram removidos estudos em que os doentes com disfunção da ATM são tratados por técnicas que não sejam de exercícios de reeducação postural global ou alongamentos globais e estudos que utilizaram terapias combinadas, onde efetuaram programas de exercícios em complemento com outras técnicas de Fisioterapia não manuais. Resultados: A presente revisão da literatura inclui uma totalidade de 5 estudos, 4 randomizados controlados e 1 não randomizado (quase experimental). Para além de modalidades relacionadas com a RPG, são abordadas outras terapêuticas, como PNF, indução miofascial, compressão isquémica, alongamento estático e técnicas de relaxamento combinada com respiração controlada. Conclusão: O método de RPG para DTM apresenta várias vantagens, principalmente em doentes com desvios posturais ou com DTM miogénica, podendo também ser utilizado de forma preventiva. Contudo, esta modalidade deverá ser utilizada segundo os objetivos dos doentes e suas limitações físicas, associando assim um programa de exercício terapêutico continuado, entretanto constatamos pouca concordância no que diz respeito aos tempos terapêuticos para os vários indivíduos. Objetive: To perform a literature review to try to understand the effects of treatments with techniques based on global postural reeducation (GPR) in individuals with a diagnosis of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) Method: Search the databases of PubMed, PEDro, Scielo, Ebsco and Cochrane library to know the results and the advice of the authors who used the technique on a sample with TMD. Inclusion criteria: published studies with a 10 year time limit (2007 and 2017), with English and Portuguese language, on randomized controlled and nonrandomized studies in humans, where the RPG method was used in patients with TMJ dysfunction . Exclusion criteria: studies were removed in which patients with TMD dysfunction are treated by techniques other than postural global exercises or global stretches and studies using combined therapies where they performed exercise programs in addition to other non-manual physiotherapy techniques. Results: The present review of the literature includes a total of 5 studies, 4 randomized controlled and 1 non-randomized (almost experimental). In addition to RPG-related modalities, other therapies such as PNF, myofascial induction, ischemic compression, static stretching, and relaxation techniques combined with controlled breathing are discussed. Conclusion: Based on these review studies, the RPG method for TMD has several advantages, especially in patients with postural deviations or with myogenic TMD, otherwise it may be used in a preventive manner. However, this modality should be used secondarily to the patients' goals and their physical limitations, thus associating a program of continuous therapeutic exercise, although there is little agreement as to the therapeutic times for individuals. Existem diferentes formas terapêuticas para correção e reeducação das curvaturas escolióticas. Objetivo: Analisar os efeitos de diferentes protocolos de reeducação postural em pacientes com escoliose. Metodologia: A pesquisa foi realizada nas bases de dados PubMed, Science Direct e motor de pesquisa B-on, fundamentada em artigos compreendidos entre os anos de 2007 e 2017, avaliados segundo a escala Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP). Resultados: Nesta revisão foram incluídos 6 estudos, com um total de 110 crianças e jovens de ambos os sexos, e com idades médias compreendidas entre 7 e 20 anos. Após a implementação das técnicas constatou-se uma melhoria nos ângulos da curvatura, na flexibilidade vertebral, na expansibilidade tóraco-pulmonar, na sintomatologia dolorosa e na qualidade de vida dos participantes. Conclusão: As técnicas de reeducação postural, nomeadamente reeducação postural global, método de Pilates, isostretching e exercícios de Schroth são efetivas no tratamento convencional de escolioses em crianças e jovens. There are different therapeutic forms for correction and re-education of scoliotic curvatures. Objectives: Analyze different protocols on the effects and importance of different techniques of postural reeducation in patients with scoliosis. Methodology: The survey was conducted in PubMed and Science Direct databases, and search engines such as B-on, based on articles dated between 2007 and 2017, evaluated according to the Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) scale. Results: In this review, 6 studies were included, with a total of 110 children and teenagers of both sexes, with ages ranging from 7 to 20 years. After the implementation of the techniques, there was an improvement in the angles of curvature, in the vertebral flexibility, in the thoracic-pulmonary expansion, in the pain symptomatology and in the quality of life of the participants. Conclusion: The techniques of postural reeducation, namely global postural reeducation, Pilates method, isostretching and Schroth exercises are effective in the conventional treatment of scoliosis in children and young people. OBJETIVO: Avaliar as respostas da freqüência cardíaca (FC), pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), diastólica (PAD), média (PAM) e duplo produto (DPr), durante a postura sentada do método de Reeducação Postural Global (RPG). MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Nove voluntárias saudáveis (23±2,1 anos, 56,4±7,8kg, 1,61±0,05m, 21,6±2,4kg.m2-1), inexperientes na prática do método RPG, foram submetidas a uma sessão de RPG na postura sentada, realizada em três fases: repouso pré-postura, execução da postura e recuperação pós-postura. No repouso e na recuperação, as voluntárias permaneceram sentadas por 20 minutos, sendo PA e FC verificadas a cada cinco minutos. A fase de execução da postura foi realizada em três séries e mantida por três minutos cada, com intervalo de um minuto entre elas. A verificação da PA e da FC foi realizada a cada um minuto e 30 segundos de execução da postura. RESULTADOS: Os valores de PAS, PAD, PAM e DPr foram significativamente maiores (pOBJECTIVE: To evaluate heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP), diastolic arterial pressure (DAP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and double product (DP) responses in the seated posture of the Global Postural Reeducation (GPR) method. In both the resting and the recovery step, the volunteers remained seated for 20 minutes and arterial pressure and HR were measured every five minutes. The posture maintenance step lasted for three minutes and was implemented three times with one-minute intervals between implementations. The Global Postural Reeducation (GPR) method is a physical therapy based on the stretching of antigravity muscle chains with the parallel enhancement of the basal tone of antagonistic muscles addressed to improve static and dynamic stability. Through a three-dimensional motion analysis (3DMA) system, our study aims to investigate whether in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients a GPR program results in a more physiological gait pattern. The kinematic parameters of gait of twenty subjects with clinically diagnosed PD were calculated. The patients were randomly assigned to a study (10 or control (10) group. All subjects underwent neurological and 3DMA assessments at entry time (t0), at 4 weeks (t1, end of GPR program), and at 8 and 12 weeks (t2and t3, follow-up evaluation). The study group underwent a four-week GPR program, three times a week, for 40 min individual sessions. Kinematic gait parameters of thigh (T), knee (K) and ankle (A) and UPDRS-III scores were evaluated. At the end of the GPR program, we observed an improvement of the kinematic gait pattern, documented by the increase in KΔc and TΔc values that respectively express the flexion amplitude of knee and thigh. The amelioration was persistent at follow-up assessments, with a parallel enhancement in clinical parameters. GPR intervention shows a long-term efficacy on gait pattern in PD patients. Furthermore, we validated 3DMA as a valuable tool to study the kinematics of gait thus refining the understanding of the effects of specific rehabilitation programs.

127 p., La esquizofrenia es uno de los trastornos psiquiátricos más complejos, caracterizado por un amplio rango de síntomas positivos, negativos y cognitivos que afectan a la totalidad de los dominios cognitivos del paciente incluyendo la percepción, el pensamiento, la atención, la memoria y la emoción. Las personas con un diagnóstico de esquizofrenia presentan una esperanza de vida dos veces menor a la del resto de la población y mayores riesgos de padecer una enfermedad cardiovascular, trastornos psicológicos concomitantes como la ansiedad o las reacciones adversas derivadas de la medicación. Esto refleja la necesidad de implantar tratamientos complementarios que hagan frente a todas estas necesidades en el tratamiento multidisciplinar de los pacientes con diagnóstico de esquizofrenia. Objetivo: el propósito de esta revisión sistemática es valorar la eficacia de las intervenciones de terapia física más utilizadas en el campo de la salud mental según la IOPTMH en el tratamiento multidisciplinar de pacientes con diagnóstico de esquizofrenia: ejercicio físico, relajación muscular progresiva (RMP), terapia de concienciación corporal basal, biofeedback, estimulación multisensorial, masoterapia y reeducación postural global (RPG). Métodos: las búsquedas de ECAS se realizaron en las bases de datos de PubMed y PsycINFO, desde su inicio hasta enero de 2016. Los estudios examinaban la eficacia de 7 intervenciones diferentes de terapia física en pacientes con diagnóstico de esquizofrenia. Para valorar la calidad metodológica de los ECAS se usaron las escalas JADAD y PEDro. Resultados: 10 ECAS cumplieron con los criterios de selección: 5 de los estudios estaban dirigidos a programas de ejercicio físico, 4 estaban dirigidos a la RMP y uno trataba sobre biofeedback. No se encontró ningún ECA que investigara la eficacia de la terapia de concienciación corporal basal, estimulación multisensorial, masaje o la reeducación postural global. Conclusión: esta revisión sistemática ha demostrado que intervenciones de terapia física como los programas de ejercicio físico o la relajación muscular progresiva usadas como tratamiento complementario tiene efectos beneficiosos sobre los síntomas psiquiátricos, la ansiedad y sobre la sensación de bienestar y la calidad de vida de personas con un diagnóstico de esquizofrenia. Por tanto, la aplicación de tratamientos de fisioterapia dentro del tratamiento multidisciplinar de estos pacientes en los servicios de salud mental puede aportar resultados positivos. Son necesarios futuros estudios que investiguen la aplicabilidad y adecuación de otras técnicas de terapia física para pacientes con un diagnóstico de esquizofrenia y que avalen la participación de los fisioterapeutas dentro de los servicios de salud mental., Schizophrenia is one of the most complex psychiatric disorders, characterized by a wide range of positive, negative and cognitive symptoms affecting all aspects of mental activity, including perception, thought, attention, memory and emotion. In addition, people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia have a life expectancy twice lower than the rest of population and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, related psychological disorders like anxiety or negative reactions resulting from medication. This reflects the need to implement complementary treatments to face these needs in the multidisciplinary treatments for patients with schizophrenia. Objective: the main goal of this systematic review was to assess the effectiveness of most commonly physical therapy interventions used in Mental Health services according to IOPTMH in multidisciplinary treatment for patients with schizophrenia: physical exercise, progressive muscle relaxation, basic body awareness therapy, multisensorial stimulation, massage and global postural reeducation. Method: Searches were performed using PubMed and PsycINFO databases of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) from their inception until January 2016. The studies examined the effectiveness of seven different physical therapy interventions in patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. The methodical quality of RCTs was evaluated according to the JADAD scale and PEDro scale Results: 10 RCTs met all selection criteria: 5 of these studies were aimed to the use of physical exercise programs; 4 studies, to the use of progressive muscle relaxation and 1 about the use of biofeedback. No RTCs investigating on the effectiveness of basic body awareness therapy, multisensorial stimulation, massage or global postural reeducation was found. Conclusion: this systematic review shows that physical therapy interventions, such a physical therapy programs and progressive muscle relaxation used as add-on treatment have benefits for psychiatric symptoms, anxiety, subjective well-being and life quality. Then, the application of a physical therapy inside a multidisciplinary treatment for these patients in the mental health services may have positive outcomes. Future studies are needed to investigate the applicability and adaptation of other physical therapy techniques for patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and substantiating the participation of physiotherapists within the mental health services., Grado en Fisioterapia

Objetivo: avaliar o efeito do método Reeducação Postural Global (RPG) na alteração de desvios posturais não patológicos. Metodologia: Vinte indivíduos dos 20 aos 35 anos, com características biológicas e de atividade física similares, foram divididos em dois grupos de dez, um grupo de controlo e outro experimental. No grupo experimental foi aplicado um protocolo de alongamento segundo a RPG (duas posturas), durante 4 semanas, duas vezes por semana, com duração de trinta minutos cada sessão. Ambos os grupos foram submetidos a duas avaliações posturais por biofotogrametria, através do protocolo Sapo v. 0.68, uma no ínicio do estudo e outra no final. Resultados: no final do período observacional, o grupo experimental obteve melhorias estatisticamente significativas em oito das vinte e uma medidas de alinhamento e simetria corporal, enquanto que no grupo de controlo não foram encontradas qualquer alterações significativas. Conclusão: o método RPG é capaz de devolver simetria corporal, corrigindo determinados desalinhamentos posturais. The adoption of a bad posture can depend on several intrinsic and / or extrinsic factors, such as disease or psychosocial factors, lifestyle, aging, and imbalance of body harmony, may lead to future conditions. Objective: To evaluate the effect of global postural reeducation (GPR) method on non-pathological postural deviations. Methods: Twenty subjects between 20 and 35 years, biological and similar physical activity characteristics were divided into two groups of ten, a control group and an experimental. In the experimental group was assigned a stretching protocol according to RPG (two positions) for 4 weeks, twice a week, lasting thirty minutes each session. Both groups underwent two evaluations by postural photogrammetry, by Sapo v 0.68 protocol, one at the beginning of the study and one at the end. Results: At the end of the observation period, the experimental group had a statistically significant improvement in eight of the twenty-one alignment measures and body symmetry, while in the control group were not found any significant changes. Conclusion: RPG method is capable of restoring body symmetry, correcting certain postural misalignments.

The Global Postural Reeducation (GPR) method is a physical therapy based on the stretching of antigravity muscle chains with the parallel enhancement of the basal tone of antagonistic muscles addressed to improve static and dynamic stability. Through a three-dimensional motion analysis (3DMA) system, our study aims to investigate whether in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients a GPR program results in a more physiological gait pattern. The kinematic parameters of gait of twenty subjects with clinically diagnosed PD were calculated. The patients were randomly assigned to a study (10 or control (10) group. All subjects underwent neurological and 3DMA assessments at entry time (t 0), at 4 weeks (t 1, end of GPR program), and at 8 and 12 weeks (t 2 and t 3, follow-up evaluation). The study group underwent a four-week GPR program, three times a week, for 40 min individual sessions. Kinematic gait parameters of thigh (T), knee (K) and ankle (A) and UPDRS-III scores were evaluated. At the end of the GPR program, we observed an improvement of the kinematic gait pattern, documented by the increase in KΔc and TΔc values that respectively express the flexion amplitude of knee and thigh. The amelioration was persistent at follow-up assessments, with a parallel enhancement in clinical parameters. GPR intervention shows a long-term efficacy on gait pattern in PD patients. Furthermore, we validated 3DMA as a valuable tool to study the kinematics of gait thus refining the understanding of the effects of specific rehabilitation programs.

Uma das técnicas mais usadas no âmbito da fisioterapia que visa a manutenção ou aumento da amplitude de movimento e, consequentemente previne recidivas ou o aparecimento de lesões, é o alongamento. Objetivo: Analisar a influência do alongamento através da Reeducação Postural Global (RPG) na flexibilidade em nadadores federados do escalão Infantil. Metodologia: A amostra constituída por 19 nadadores foi dividida em dois grupos (controlo e experimental). No grupo experimental foi aplicado um protocolo de alongamento segundo a RPG (três posturas), durante 4 semanas, 2 vezes por semana. Ambos os grupos foram submetidos a uma avaliação inicial e final, tendo-se usado como instrumento o flexiteste, o teste do 3ºdedo-solo e o teste de extensão do tronco. Resultados: Verificou-se um aumento significativo dos níveis de flexibilidade no grupo experimental face ao grupo de controlo quando comparamos os dois momentos de avaliação (p≤0,05). Conclusão: A RPG demonstrou ser capaz de incrementar as amplitudes de movimento nos nadadores submetidos ao protocolo. Introduction: Flexibility is recognized as a crucial motor quality in the sports area. One of the most used physiotherapy techniques which includes maintenance or the increase of motion amplitude and consecutively prevents a relapse or other lesions is stretching. Objective: Analyze the influence of Global Postural Reeducation on flexibility of the swimmers athletes. Methods: A sample of 19 swimmers athletes was divided into two groups (control and experimental groups). The experimental group was subjected to a stretching protocol of GPR (three postures), for four weeks, two times per week. Both groups were also submited to an initial and final assessment, where we used the flexiteste, 3rd finger-test soil and trunk extension test. Results: We were able to verify a significant improvement on the experimental group’s flexibility levels when comparing them to the control group’s moments after the evaluation (p≤0,05). Conclusion: The GPR as shown a capability to increment the movement amplitudes on the swimmers submitted to protocol.

Objectivo: O objectivo desta revisão sistemática é comprovar a relação entre a articulação têmporo-mandibular (ATM) e alterações posturais e ressaltar a importância e a eficácia do tratamento fisioterapêutico nas alterações posturais para melhora dos sintomas de disfunção temporomandibular (DTM). Metodologia: pesquisa de estudos datados entre 2000 e 2010, nas bases de dados B-on através da EBSCO, Pubmed, Elsevier, Science Direct e Springer link e em revistas como a NovaFisio. Resultados: Obtiveram-se 50 artigos dos quais, nesta revisão, foram incluídos 15 artigos experimentais, com valores entre 5 e 9 na escala de PEDro. Para estudar a relação entre ATM e alterações posturais foram analisados 10 estudos experimentais com um total de 817 indivíduos. Foi confirmada a relação das alterações posturais com a ATM sobretudo na cervical e ombros. Para estudar o efeito do tratamento direccionado para a postura na ATM foram analisados 5 estudos experimentais com um total de 233 indivíduos. Este tipo de tratamento verificou-se benéfico e com resultados consideráveis em todos os estudos. Conclusão: Confirma-se a relação entre ATM e alterações posturais. O tratamento direccionado para a reeducação postural revela ser benéfico no tratamento de DTM. Objective: the aim of this systematic review was to proved the relationship between temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and postural changes and also the significance and effectiveness of physiotherapy treatment in postural changes in order to improve the symptoms. Methods: Research studies dated between 2000 and 2010 in the databases Bon with EBSCO, Pubmed, Elsevier, Science Direct e Springer link and NovaFisio magazine. Results50 articles were obtained, in this review were included 15 experimental articles with values between 5 and 9 in PEDro’s scale. To study the relationship between TMJ and postural changes 10 studies were analyzed with a total of 817 participants. The relationship between postural changes and TMJ was confirmed, mainly at the level of the neck and shouders. To study the effect of the treatment at the TMJ posture five studies were analysed with a total of 233 participants. This type of treatment was beneficial with significant results. Conclusion: The relationship between TMJ and postural changes was confirmed. Treatment aimed to postural reeducation was beneficial in the treatment of TMD.

Background The aim of this non-randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the effectiveness of a Global Postural Reeducation (GPR) program as compared to a Stabilization Exercise (SE) program in subjects with persistent low back pain (LBP) at short- and mid-term follow-up (ie. 3 and 6 months). Methods According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 100 patients with a primary complaint of persistent LBP were enrolled in the study: 50 were allocated to the GPR group and 50 to the SE group. Primary outcome measures were Roland and Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Secondary outcome measures were lumbar Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Fingertip-to-floor test (FFT). Data were collected at baseline and at 3/6 months by health care professionals unaware of the study. An intention to treat approach was used to analyze participants according to the group to which they were originally assigned. Results Of the 100 patients initially included in the study, 78 patients completed the study: 42 in the GPR group and 36 in the SE group. At baseline, the two groups did not differ significantly with respect to gender, age, BMI and outcome measures. Comparing the differences between groups at short- and mid-term follow-up, the GPR group revealed a significant reduction (from baseline) in all outcome measures with respect to the SE group. The ordered logistic regression model showed an increased likelihood of definitive improvement (reduction from baseline of at least 30% in RMDQ and VAS scores) for the GPR group compared to the SE group (OR 3.9, 95% CI 2.7 to 5.7). Conclusions Our findings suggest that a GPR intervention in subjects with persistent LBP induces a greater improvement on pain and disability as compared to a SE program. These results must be confirmed by further studies with higher methodological standards, including randomization, larger sample size, longer follow-up and subgrouping of the LBP subjects.
