Purpose: This study aimed to quantify training and match-day (MD) load during 3-, 4-, and 5-day microcycles in professional adult football, as well as to analyze the effect of the microcycle length on training load produced the day after the match (MD + 1) and the day before the match (MD − 1). Methods: The study involved 20 male professional football players whose external and internal loads were monitored for a whole season. The training exposure, total distance covered, high-speed-running distance, sprint distance (SD), individual SD above 80% of the individual maximum velocity (D > 80%), and the number of accelerations and decelerations were quantified, as well as rating of perceived exertion and session rating of perceived exertion training load. Results: Microcycle length affected most of the variables of interest: high-speed-running distance (F = 9.04, P <.01), SD (F = 13.90, P <.01), D > 80% (F = 20.25, P <.01), accelerations (F = 10.12, P <.01), and decelerations (F = 6.01, P <.01). There was an interaction effect between the training day and microcycle type for SD (F = 5.46, P <.01), D > 80% (F = 4.51, P <.01), accelerations (F = 2.24, P =.06), and decelerations (F = 3.91, P <.01). Conclusions: Coaches seem to be influenced by shorter microcycles in their training proposal, preferring sessions with a reduced muscle impact during shorter microcycles. Purpose: Prediction of athlete wellness is difficult—or, many sports-medicine practitioners and scientists would argue, impossible. Instead, one settles for correlational relationships of variables gathered at fixed moments in time. The issue may be an inherent mismatch between usual methods of data collection and analysis and the complex nature of the variables governing athlete wellness. Variables such as external load, stress, muscle soreness, and sleep quality may affect each other and wellness in a dynamic, nonlinear, way over time. In such an environment, traditional data-collection methods and statistics will fail to capture causal effects. If we are to move this area of sport science forward, a different approach is required. Methods: We analyzed data from 2 different soccer teams that showed no significance between player load and wellness or among individual measures of wellness. Our analysis used methods of attractor reconstruction to examine possible causal relationships between GPS/accelerometer-measured external training load and wellness variables. Results: Our analysis showed that player self-rated stress, a component of wellness, seems a fundamental driving variable. The influence of stress is so great that stress can predict other components of athlete wellness, and, in turn, self-rated stress can be predicted by observing a player's load data. Conclusion: We demonstrate the ability of nonlinear methods to identify interactions between and among variables to predict future athlete stress. Purpose: Maximal speed is an important physical-fitness attribute for female Australian footballers. The effects of sprint training, maximal strength, and technical training have been reported in laboratory studies. However, no study has determined the combined effect and relative contribution of these training modalities on maximal speed adaptation in situ. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the training factors affecting maximal speed adaptation during a preseason in subelite female Australian Rules footballers. Methods: Maximal speed during field training, predicted 1-repetition maximum (1RM) for box squat and hip thrust, and sprint biomechanics were assessed during early and late preseason (∼9 wk apart) in 15 female subelite Australian Rules Football players (age 20 [3] y). On-field training volume and intensity (total distance, high-speed running, very-high-speed running, and maximal speed) were determined using a Global Positioning System. A multivariate regression model was used to determine the factors associated with changes in maximal speed across the preseason. Results: The preseason training program had a small effect on maximal speed and large to very large effects on strength and sprint biomechanics. The multivariate regression with the greatest fit (P <.001, R2 =.939) included change in estimated 1RM box squat (β = −0.63), total distance per week (β = −0.55), and change in hip projection (β = 0.16) as factors. Multivariate regression of biomechanical factors (P =.044, R2 =.717) and maximal strength factors (P =.003, R2 =.676) were also significant. Conclusion: The development of maximal speed across a preseason is dependent on (1) total distance per week, (2) maximal strength adaptation, and (3) sprint technique adaptation in female subelite Australian rules football players. Purpose: The relationship between external load and creatine-kinase (CK) response at the team/position or individual level using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) has been studied. This study aimed to compare GPS-derived and Football Movement Profile (FMP) –derived CK-prediction models for national-team soccer players. The second aim was to compare the performance of general and individualized CK prediction models. Methods: Four hundred forty-four national-team soccer players (under 15 [U15] to senior) were monitored during training sessions and matches using GPS. CK was measured every morning from whole blood. The players had 19.3 (18.1) individual GPS-CK pairs, resulting in a total of 8570 data points. Machine learning models were built using (1) GPS-derived or (2) FMP-based parameters or (3) the combination of the 2 to predict the following days' CK value. The performance of general and individual-specific prediction models was compared. The performance of the models was described by R2 and the root-mean-square error (RMSE, in units per liter for CK values). Results: The FMP model (R2 =.60, RMSE = 144.6 U/L) performed similarly to the GPS-based model (R2 =.62, RMSE = 141.2 U/L) and the combination of the 2 (R2 =.62, RMSE = 140.3 U/L). The prediction power of the general model was better on average (R2 =.57 vs R2 =.37) and for 73% of the players than the individualized model. Conclusions: The results suggest that FMP-based CK-prediction models perform similarly to those based on GPS-derived metrics. General machine learning models' prediction power was higher than those of the individual-specific models. Context: The hip adductor and abductor muscles play vital roles as stabilizers in the lower-extremity. Their activation during soccer-specific actions is essential, but local muscular fatigue can hinder athletic performance and increase the risk of injury. Design: This study aimed to observe the variations in frontal plane hip strength in female college soccer players before and after a high-workload soccer-specific training session. Furthermore, the study sought to compare the relative changes in hip strength with the internal and external load measures obtained during that session. Methods: Twenty female college soccer players participated in a retrospective observational study. Isometric hip adductor and abductor strength were measured before and after a training session in the college spring season. Measurements were taken with a handheld dynamometer (MicroFET 2) while the players were supine. Global positioning system sensors (Catapult Vector S7), commonly worn by players during training sessions and competitive matches, were used to measure external and internal loads. Statistical analyses were performed using paired samples t test to assess hip adductor and abductor strength changes before and after the training session. Spearman rank was used to identify correlation coefficients between global positioning system data and isometric hip strength. Results: The findings revealed significant decreases in the strength of the right hip adduction (P =.012, −7% relative change), right abduction (P =.009, −7.6% relative change), and left abduction (P =.016, −4.9% relative change) after the training session. Furthermore, relative decreases in hip isometric adduction and abduction strength are related to the distance covered at high speeds. Conclusion: The results of this study highlight that hip isometric adduction and abduction strength tend to decrease after exposure to high workloads during soccer-specific training. Purpose: This study aimed to enhance the understanding of soccer match peak demands by describing worst-case scenario (WCS) and time spent above 80% and 90% of the WCS for total distance (TD) and high-speed running (HSR). The investigation considered playing level (first team vs under-19 [U19] team) and playing position (center backs, fullbacks, midfielders, and forwards) to assess how WCS and the time spent above specific thresholds vary across different populations. Methods: Data from 31 players in a professional Italian soccer club were collected during the 2022–23 season. Microtechnology devices tracked physical activity during matches. Players were categorized by position, and WCS was determined using rolling averages over a 1-minute period. Time spent above 80% and 90% of WCS for TD and HSR was calculated. Results: The U19 team exhibited higher HSR WCS compared with the first team (∼63 m·min−1 vs ∼56 m·min−1). Midfielders recorded the highest TD WCS (∼208 m·min−1), and forwards exhibited the highest HSR WCS (∼70 m·min−1). The first team spent significantly more time above 80% (∼6 min) and 90% (∼1 min) of TD WCS. Midfielders spent significantly more time above the 80% (∼7 min) of TD WCS, while forwards above the 80% (∼2 min) of HSR WCS. Conclusions: The study emphasizes that WCS used alone may not sufficiently capture real match intensity. Considering the time spent above specific thresholds provides additional insights (ie, between-levels differences and position). Purpose: Global navigation satellite system device–derived metrics are commonly represented by discrete zones with intensity often measured by standardizing volume to per-minute of activity duration. This approach is sensitive to imprecision in duration measurement and can lead to highly variable outcomes—transforming data from zones to a gradient may overcome this problem. The purpose of this study was to critically evaluate this approach for measuring team-sport activity demands. Methods: Data were collected from 129 first-team and 73 academy matches from a Scottish Premiership football club. Gradients were calculated for velocity, acceleration, and deceleration zones, along with per-minute values for several commonly used metrics. Means and 95% CIs were calculated for playing level, as well as first-team positional groups. Within-subject coefficients of variation were also calculated for match level, position, and individual groups. Results: The gradient approach showed consistency with per-minute metrics when measuring playing level and position groups. With coefficients of variation of 10.8% to 26.9%, the gradients demonstrated lower variability than most per-minute variables, which ranged from 10.7% to 84.5%. Conclusions: Gradients are a potentially useful way of describing intensity in team sports and compare favorably to existing intensity variables in their ability to distinguish between match types and position groups, providing evidence that gradient variables can be used to monitor match and training intensity in team sports. Purpose: To quantify the change in session rating of perceived exertion training impulse (RPE-TRIMP) that may occur in response to increased running distance at 3 running velocity ranges in elite sprinters. Methods: We monitored training load in elite sprinters (women: n = 7; men: n = 11) using wearable Global Positioning System technology and RPE-TRIMP for a total of 681 individual training sessions during a 22-week competition-preparation period. Internal training load was operationalized by RPE-TRIMP, and external training load was operationalized by distance covered in 3 velocity ranges. A linear mixed-effects model with athlete as a random effect was fit to RPE-TRIMP with total distance covered at ≤69.99% (low-velocity running [LVR]), 70% to 84.99% (high-velocity running [HVR]), and 85% to 100% (very-high-velocity running [VHVR]) of individual maximum velocity. Results: Increased running distance in all 3 velocity ranges (LVR, HVR, and VHVR) resulted in a significant (P <.001) increase in RPE-TRIMP. Coefficients (95% CIs) were.10 (.08–.11) for LVR,.23 (.18–.28) for HVR, and.44 (.35–.53) for VHVR. A 50-m increase in running distance covered in the LVR, HVR, and VHVR velocity ranges was associated with increases in RPE-TRIMP of 5, 11.5, and 22 arbitrary units, respectively. Conclusions: Internal training load, calculated as RPE-TRIMP, increased with increases in total distance covered in the LVR, HVR, and VHVR velocity ranges (P <.001). Purpose: Injury prevention is a crucial aspect of sports, particularly in high-performance settings such as elite female football. This study aimed to develop an injury prediction model that incorporates clinical, Global-Positioning-System (GPS), and multiomics (genomics and metabolomics) data to better understand the factors associated with injury in elite female football players. Methods: We designed a prospective cohort study over 2 seasons (2019–20 and 2021–22) of noncontact injuries in 24 elite female players in the Spanish Premiership competition. We used GPS data to determine external workload, genomic data to capture genetic susceptibility, and metabolomic data to measure internal workload. Results: Forty noncontact injuries were recorded, the most frequent of which were muscle (63%) and ligament (20%) injuries. The baseline risk model included fat mass and the random effect of the player. Six genetic polymorphisms located at the DCN, ADAMTS5, ESRRB, VEGFA, and MMP1 genes were associated with injuries after adjusting for player load (P <.05). The genetic score created with these 6 variants determined groups of players with different profile risks (P = 3.1 × 10−4). Three metabolites (alanine, serotonin, and 5-hydroxy-tryptophan) correlated with injuries. The model comprising baseline variables, genetic score, and player load showed the best prediction capacity (C-index:.74). Conclusions: Our model could allow efficient, personalized interventions based on an athlete's vulnerability. However, we emphasize the necessity for further research in female athletes with an emphasis on validation studies involving other teams and individuals. Purpose: To (1) examine within-individual player dose–response associations between selected training-load measures and changes in aerobic fitness level via submaximal exercise heart rate (HRex%) and (2) measure the relationships between these dose–response associations with basal HRex% (to study the influence of fitness level on dose–response relationship). Methods: During an in-season phase, selected training-load measures including total minutes, total distance, mechanical work (the sum number of accelerations and decelerations > 3 m2), high metabolic load distance, and Edwards' training impulse were collected via Global Positioning System and heart-rate sensors for analyzing accumulated load. A submaximal warm-up test was used repeatedly before and after 9 phases to elicit HRex% and track fitness changes at an individual level. Results: Negative to positive extensive ranges of within-individual associations were found among players for different metrics (r = −.84 to.89). The relationship between pooled HRex% (basal fitness) and dose–response correlations showed inverse very large (r = −.71) and large (r = −.65) values for accumulated weekly minutes and distance. However, moderate values were found for all other measures (r = −.35 to −.42). Conclusions: Individual players show extensive different ranges of dose–response associations with training measures. The dose–response association is influenced by players' fitness level, and players with lower fitness levels show stronger inverse relationships with accumulated minutes and total distance. BACKGROUND: Sleep is influenced by the environments that we experience while awake and while asleep. Neighborhood walkability has been linked with chronic disease and lifestyle factors, such as physical activity; however, evidence for the association between walkability and sleep is mixed. Extant studies assign walkability based on residential addresses, which does not account for mobility. We examined the association between walkability and sleep in the Nurses Health Study 3 (NHS3) Mobile Health Substudy (MHS). METHODS: From 2018 to 2020, individuals in the United States-based NHS3 prospective cohort participated in the MHS, in which minute-level global positioning systems (GPS) data and objective sleep duration and efficiency measures were collected via a custom smartphone application and Fitbit, respectively, for four 7-day periods across a year to capture seasonal variability. Census tract walkability was calculated by summing z-scores of population density (2015-2019 American Community Survey), business density (2018 Infogroup), and intersection density (2018 TIGER/Line road shapefiles). We ran generalized additive mixed models with penalized splines to estimate the association between walkability and sleep, adjusting for individual-level covariates as well as GPS-based exposure to environmental and contextual factors. RESULTS: The average main sleep period duration was 7.9 hours and the mean sleep efficiency was 93%. For both sleep duration and sleep efficiency, we did not observe an association with daily average walkability exposure. CONCLUSION: In this study of women across the United States, we found that daily GPS-based neighborhood walkability exposure during wake time was not associated with objective wearable-derived sleep duration or sleep efficiency.

To understand the environmental determinants of physical activity (PA), precise spatial localization is crucial. This cross-sectional study focuses on the spatiotemporal distribution of PA among Czech adolescents (n = 171) using Global Positioning System loggers and accelerometers. The results showed that adolescents spent most of their time in sedentary behavior, with 57.2% and 58.5% of monitored time at home and school, respectively. The park and playground had the lowest proportion of sedentary behavior but also the lowest amount of moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA). However, when considering the time spent in each domain, the highest proportion of MVPA was seen in publicly accessible playgrounds (13.3% of the time). Chi-square analysis showed that the relative distribution of different PA intensities did not differ across spatial domains. Based on these results, the authors propose 2 key strategies for increasing MVPA in adolescents: Increase the time spent in activity-supportive environments, such as parks and playgrounds, and design techniques to increase MVPA at home and school settings. Purpose: Rugby union is a contact team sport demanding high levels of physical capacity, and understanding the match workloads can be useful to inform training. In this study, the factors influencing locomotion and contact workloads for offensive and defensive ball-in-play periods are quantified. Methods: Locomotion and contact metrics were collected from global positioning system units and videos for 31 professional players of a Super Rugby team across 14 games in the 2021 season. Data were analyzed with a generalized mixed-model procedure that included effects for type of play, playing position, match outcome, and ball-in-play time. Magnitudes were assessed with standardization, and evidence for substantial magnitudes was derived from sampling uncertainty. Results: When offense was compared to defense, most metrics showed decisively substantial increases (small to moderate) for forwards and backs. There was decisive evidence that locomotion metrics were substantially lower (large differences) and contact metrics were higher (very large differences) when comparing forwards to backs on offense and defense. When winning was compared to losing, there was good evidence that forwards experienced small increases in overall workload on defense, and backs experienced a small increase in high-speed running and a moderate decrease in contacts on offense. Match-to-match changes associated with ball-in-play time, attributed to fatigue, were decisive (moderate to very large) across most metrics for forwards and backs in offense and defense. Conclusions: The increased locomotion and contact workloads in offensive periods and the differing physical requirements between positions and match outcomes for both types of play are novel findings that should aid practitioners in designing effective training. The rapid development of wearable electronics highlights the urgence to develop the portable energy harvester with excellent output performance, comfortability, and sustainability. This work designs an electromagnetic walking energy harvester based on water turbine that can be embedded in shoes with good comfortability. Its working principle is that the walking generated pressure energy drives a miniature hydraulic turbine to output electricity. Experimental results show that an average power of 300 and 180 mW can be produced at heel and toe, respectively, when a man of 80 kg walks at a speed of 1.8 m s−1. This power output exceeds the piezoelectric, triboelectric, and electromagnetic walking energy harvesters reported in the past. Additionally, the simpler structure endows it better comfortability as compared with the electrostatic capacitances. Computational fluid dynamics simulations provide a further insight that the efficiency of turbine can reach 13.5% by optimizing parameters of blade number and outlet flow ratio. Finally, user real-time positioning and trajectory recording are successfully demonstrated via a wearable GPS means Global Positioning System module powered by the harvester. Due to the combination of high output performance, simple structure and low discomfort, the water turbine based walking energy harvester will provide a wide application potential in wearable devices. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is an important component of total daily energy expenditure; however, it is currently not understood how it varies across a typical competitive match week in professional soccer players. For the first time, we aimed to assess RMR throughout an in-season competitive week in professional soccer players. Additionally, we aimed to assess energy and carbohydrate intake across the same week. Twenty-four professional soccer players from an English Premier League club (age: 18 ± 1.6 years) completed the study. RMR was assessed each morning of a typical competitive match week (match day [MD] −3, −2, −1, +1, +2, and + 3), and dietary intake (including MD) was assessed daily via the remote food photography method and 24-hr recall. Daily training load was quantified using Global Positioning System, daily muscle soreness ratings were recorded, and body composition was assessed via dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. There was a significant (p =.0004) increase in mean RMR of ∼261 kcal/day on MD + 1, compared with MD − 1. Additionally, volume of oxygen consumed significantly increased at MD + 1 (p =.0002) versus MD − 1. There were no significant differences in daily energy or carbohydrate intake across the competitive week (p >.05), with inadequate carbohydrate intakes on MD − 1 (∼3.9 g/kg body mass), MD (∼4.2 g/kg body mass), and MD + 1 (∼3.6 g/kg body mass) in relation to current recommendations. We report, for the first time, that RMR is significantly increased following a competitive match in professional soccer players. In addition, we confirm previous findings to reinforce that players exhibit inadequate nutrition periodization practices, which may impair physical performance and recovery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: In this paper, the enhancement of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) adaptive acquisition using metaheuristic optimization techniques is proposed. The principal goal of this work is to optimize the cell averaging constant false alarm rate (CA‐CFAR) thresholding in Rayleigh fading channels. In GNSS acquisition, pilot and data blocks may have different thresholds. Thus, the optimization will focus on two scaling factors (T1 and T2). Two fusion rules have been used here ("AND" and "OR"). Due to their performances in different optimization problems, metaheuristics have been chosen to be our tool for solving this kind of problem. Ba 1.5 Sr 0.5 Zn 2 Fe 28-x Yb x O 46 (x = 0.00, 0.07, 0.14, 0.21, and 0.28) hexaferrite were synthesized via sol-gel auto-combustion route to investigate the microwave absorption performance in different frequency bands. The structure has a single phase, and the variation in lattice parameter was observed due to Yb-content as host iron Fe3+ and substituted Yb3+ having different ionic radii. Microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) need to be lightweight, and the maximum crystallite size of prepared material is 41 nm. The physical properties vary with substitution, and the X-ray density value is higher than the bulk density, and the porosity of the prepared sample increases when the bulk density decreases. Micro-strain values are inverse to the crystallite size because Yb3+ has larger ionic radii than Fe3+. Rietveld refinement of the XRD patterns was conducted with a lower significance value. FTIR bands observed between 414 and 500 cm−1 are present due to iron-oxygen bond stretching and bending vibrations at octahedral and tetrahedral lattice sites. The cation distribution is highly responsible for the peak position of octahedral and tetrahedral sites—the dielectric constant increases with frequency because of dipole, interfacial, and electronic/atomic polarization. AC conductivity is very low, reflecting that the material can be used as a dielectric medium in the microwave frequency range's L, S, and C bands. The best MAM among all prepared materials is Ba 1.5 Sr 0.5 Zn 2 Fe 27.72 Yb 0.28 O 46 which can be used for global positioning systems, weather radar, and satellite feeds as it has an excellent dielectric loss, remarkable tangential loss, and the reflection loss in P-, L-, S-, and C-bands. Cargo security is one of the most critical issues in modern logistics. For high-value theft-targeted (HVTT) cargo the driving phase of transportation takes up a major part of thefts. Dozen fleet management solutions based on GNSS positioning were introduced in recent years. Existing tracking solutions barely meet the requirements of TAPA 2020. Map-matching algorithms present valuable ideas on handling GNSS inaccuracy, however, universal map-matching methods are overcomplicated. Commercial map data providers require additional fees for the use of real-time map-matching functionality. In addition, at the map-matching stage, information on the actual distance from which the raw data was captured is lost. In HVTT security, the distance between the raw GNSS position and map-matched position can be used as a quantitative security factor. The goal of this research was to provide empirical data for TAPA TSR 2020 Level 1 certification in terms of tracking vehicles during typical operating conditions (cargo loading, routing, transportation, stopover, unloading) as well as detecting any geofencing violations. The Dynamic Geofencing Algorithm (DGA) presented in this article was developed for this specific purpose and this is the first known pulication to examine TAPA Standarization in terms of cargo positioning and fleet monitoring. The DGA is adaptive geometric-based matching (alternately curve-to-curve, point-to-curve, point-to-point). The idea behind the algorithm is to detect and eliminate the atypical matching circumstances—namely if the raw position is registered at one of the exceptions described in the paper. The 3D ionosphere structure is of interest in many fields such as radio frequency communication and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) applications. However, the limited temporal and spatial coverage of measurements poses a challenge for 3D electron density modeling. To overcome this challenge, we explore the use of kriging interpolation technique. The kriging interpolation is performed to obtain 3D representation of the ionosphere over electron density measurements retrieved by GNSS radio-occultation (RO) data. RO measurements are first reduced to "shape function," the ratio of electron density to vertical total electron content (VTEC), aiming to create a background model. Then, the empirical residual semivariogram is analyzed for variation characteristics of the shape functions under different solar geomagnetic conditions. Finally, 3D kriging is adopted for shape function interpolation. Compared to the modeling results without kriging, the maximum root mean square error (RMSE) reduction reaches 3.4 × 10 - 4 km - 1 , which amounts to 3.4 × 10 11 el/m 3 of electron density when VTEC is assumed as 100 TECU. This study presents a method based on retrofitted low-cost and easy to implement tracking devices, used to monitor the whole harvesting process in viticulture, to map yield and harvest quality parameters in viticulture. The method consists of recording the geolocation of all the machines (harvest trailers and grape harvester) during the harvest to spatially re-allocate production parameters measured at the winery. The method was tested on a vineyard of 30 ha during the whole 2022 harvest season. It has identified harvest sectors (HS) associated with measured production parameters (grape mass and harvest quality parameters: sugar content, total acidity, pH, yeast assimilable nitrogen, organic nitrogen) and calculated production parameters (potential alcohol of grapes, yield, yield per plant) over the entire vineyard. The grape mass was measured at the vineyard cellar or at the wine-growing cooperative by calibrated scales. The harvest quality parameters were measured on grape must samples in a commercial laboratory specialized in oenological analysis and using standardized protocols. Results validate the possibility of making production parameters maps automatically solely from the time and location records of the vehicles. They also highlight the limitations in terms of spatial resolution (the mean area of the HS is 0.3 ha) of the resulting maps which depends on the actual yield and size of harvest trailers. Yield per plant and yeast assimilable nitrogen maps have been used, in collaboration with the vineyard manager, to analyze and reconsider the fertilization process at the vineyard scale, showing the relevance of the information. Equatorial Plasma Bubbles (EPBs) are zones characterized by fluctuations in plasma densities which form in the low-latitude ionosphere primarily during the post-sunset. They subject radio signals to amplitude and phase variabilities, affecting the functioning of technological systems that utilize the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals for navigation. Thus, understanding EPB occurrence patterns and morphological features is vital for mitigating their effects. In this work, we employed two GNSS receivers and an All-Sky Imager (ASI) to conduct simultaneous observations on the morphology of EPBs over Brazil. The main objectives of the study were (1) to develop a Random Forest (RF) machine-learning model to estimate and predict the zonal drift velocities of EPBs, and (2) to compare the model predictions with actual EPB drifts inferred from the two instruments, as well as zonal neutral wind speeds obtained from the Horizontal Wind Model (HWM-14). In the model development, we utilized reliable EPB drift measurements made during geomagnetically quiet days between 2013 and 2017 in Brazil. The model predicted the velocities based on parameters including the day of the year, universal time, critical frequency of the F2 layer (foF2), solar and interplanetary indices. The correlation coefficients of 0.98 and 0.96 and RMSE values of 10.61 m/s and 10.06 m/s were obtained upon training and validation correspondingly. We evaluated the accuracy of the model in predicting EPB drifts on two geomagnetically quiet nights where an average correlation coefficient of 0.89 and an RMSE of 15.74 m/s were obtained. The predicted drifts, the zonal neutral wind velocities, and the GNSS and ASI velocity measurements were put into context for validation purposes. Overall, the velocities were comparable and ranged between ∼100 m/s and ∼30 m/s from the hours of 00 UT to 05 UT. The results confirmed the accuracy and applicability of the model, revealing the ionosphere-thermosphere coupling influence on the nocturnal propagation of EPBs under the full activation of the F region dynamo. The multi-point hemispherical grid model (MHGM) utilizes residual of double-differenced observations to extract precise multipath error information. It models the entire network of multipath error effects across different stations to achieve effective error correction. However, because all the parameters are estimated collectively using the least squares method, the increased number of grid point parameters can significantly consume memory, CPU, and other computing resources required for modeling. In response to the computational resource consumption challenge associated with fixed-resolution MHGM in multi-station applications, a space domain adaptive grid division method is proposed to optimize the modeling of multipath errors. This approach utilizes prior distribution information of multipath errors to optimize the grid structure. It reduces the number of grids in areas where multipath errors exhibit minimal changes, and provides detailed parameterization for areas with significant variations. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method in significantly reducing the number of estimated parameters using MHGM. In statistical analysis of double-differenced phase observation residuals with fixed ambiguities, as the number of estimated parameters in the MHGM decreases to only 24.6 % of the fixed-resolution approach, memory usage during parameter estimation remains a mere 6 % of that required in the fixed-resolution approach. Expansive soils cause frequent surface deformation due to their expansion and contraction, which is a serious engineering hazard, and long-term subsidence monitoring is a prerequisite for preventing and controlling expansive soil disasters. Currently, the conventional monitoring methods for the above issue include Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology, but InSAR is not suitable for uninterrupted monitoring of surface deformation and has low sensitivity. Meanwhile, it can't obtain multiple surface environmental parameters around the station. The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), a system that can directly acquire surface deformation, has been widely used in landslide disaster monitoring, and in recent years, this technology has also been applied to the field of expansive soil disaster monitoring. At the same time, GNSS can also provide a constant stream of L-band microwave signals to obtain ground environmental information such as precipitable rainfall and soil moisture around the station. In previous studies of expansive soil hazards, GNSS technology has been mainly used to provide surface deformation information without exploring its potential to invert ground environmental information around stations. This paper proposes a ground-based GNSS remote sensing integrated monitoring system that integrates expanding land surface parameters such as "precipitable rainfall, soil moisture, and three-dimensional deformation" and analyses the ability of ground-based GNSS to be used for integrated monitoring of expanding soil hazards by combining ten years of consecutive observational data from GNSS stations along the coastal area of Houston. The experimental results show that the GNSS is capable of providing highly accurate time-series characterization of deformation, and inelastic subsidence in recent years has resulted in a cumulative permanent elevation loss of 2 cm along the Houston coast. The correlation coefficient between soil moisture extracted by the fifth-generation European reanalysis data (ERA5) and soil moisture inverted by ground-based GNSS is 0.514. At the same time, the GNSS was also able to monitor the zenithal precipitable water vapor (PWV) and soil moisture changes around the GNSS station and further analyze the response relationship among the three parameters, which could comprehensively evaluate the stability of expansive soils, avoiding the unreliability of relying on a single piece of monitoring information to assess the stability of expansive soils. The GNSS Precise Point Positioning (PPP) model is usually established in either an ionospheric-free (IF) combined form or an uncombined (UC) form. These formulations can be equivalent in theory but their applications in practice could still perform differently when integrated with external sensors. In this study, we compared the positioning performance of the two PPP models tightly coupled with the Inertial Navigation System (INS) using a high-grade inertial measurement unit (IMU) in real vehicle navigation tests. The ambiguity resolution (AR) was also exploited in the two PPP models after applying the observable specific biases (OSB) to the GNSS raw code and phase measurements. According to the results, under good satellite observability the UC PPP/INS tightly-coupled integration (TCI) significantly outperforms the IF PPP/INS TCI. The UC TCI model with AR could achieve a positioning accuracy of 4.6 and 3.0 cm in the horizontal and vertical directions, which are improved by 37 % and 63 % respectively relative to the IF TCI model. However, in the case of frequent GNSS signal interruptions or poor satellite observation condition, the IF TCI model shows a superior reliability than the UC TCI. Nevertheless, when the ionospheric parameters are properly constrained in the UC TCI model, substantial improvements in terms of convergence and accuracy are obtained. The UC PPP augmented with external precise ionospheric information would greatly increase the cost, and users may select the appropriate PPP model with INS TCI in real applications in accordance with the demanded accuracy level and measuring conditions. This paper presents the regional characteristics of the occurrence rate of ionospheric anomalies of total electron content derived from global position system (GPS) observations. The area of concern spans 70° of longitude, from 70° E to 140° E, and 40° of latitude, from 15° N to 55° N. We introduced the 27 days moving window method to automatically detect anomalies that are caused by various sources. The spatial, diurnal, seasonal, and yearly distribution of the occurrence rate of extreme anomalies in 2011–2018 were provided. The spatial distribution of the occurrence rates of positive and negative anomalies had clear patterns in latitude and it did not change much in longitude at a certain local time over this area. The occurrence rates of positive and negative anomalies at the middle latitudes had significantly different diurnal variations from those at low latitudes. The maximum and minimum of the occurrence rates of positive anomalies occurred at about 17:00 local time (LT) and about 13:00 LT over the region from 36° N to 45° N. The maximum and minimum of the occurrence rates of negative anomalies in the same area occurred at about 07:00 LT and 18:00 LT over the region from 36° N to 45° N. There was no clear pattern in the seasonal variations of occurrence rates of positive and negative anomalies over [70° E-140° E, 15° N-55° N] in 2011–2018. The mean O/N2 had low values in summer and comparable high values in other seasons in 2015, and the O/N2 may not be the main reason for irregular seasonal characteristics of occurrence rate of anomalies. The occurrence rates of positive and negative anomaly in the year when the F10.7 index is relatively low, such as 2018, may be larger than the occurrence rates in the year with relatively large F10.7 index, such as 2014. In this article, we consider the equations of motion for an articulated n$$ n $$‐trailer vehicle with different masses and inertias in the presence of force and torque commands. We design a second‐order optimal filter to estimate the pose of the first vehicle and of the trailers exploiting the Lie group structure and the nonholonomic and hooking constraints. We consider the filtering problem from three different perspectives: in the first masses and inertias are time‐varying and perfectively known, in the second they are known only in the first part of the maneuver, but they are not updated over time. In the last case masses and inertias are considered within the state vector and therefore estimated by the filter. Depending on the needs in real‐life applications (e.g., whether the masses and inertias remain fixed or change during the maneuver and are unknown), the best‐performing filter can be used. Accurate timing corrections for seismic data recorded by ocean bottom seismometers (OBSs) are essential for a wide range of applications. The synchronization of internal OBS clocks with Global Positioning System (GPS) is typically only possible prior to deployment on the seafloor and upon retrieval. Thus, untracked, clock errors in seismic data may accumulate over the deployment period. The measurement of the clock's offset from GPS at retrieval, referred to as 'skew', can be used to correct the data solely under the assumption of a uniform rate of clock drift throughout the whole deployment. However, clock errors can be non-linear. We, therefore, develop a new workflow along with an associated open-source, interactive graphical user interface to estimate clock drift of large aperture OBS arrays. We use the workflow to estimate OBS clock drift curves for 40 OBSs of the large-scale UPFLOW seafloor array in the Madeira–Azores–Canaries region deployed for ∼14 months in 2021–2022. We use the relative shift of daily empirical Green's functions obtained from seismic ambient noise recorded by all available data channels to track clock error. We find that 95 per cent of our OBS clock drift observations have a substantial non-linear component: most maximum deviations to linearity are ∼0.75–1 s (and up to 2 s) occurring mainly halfway through the deployment. We test our drift curves by using them to correct teleseismic earthquake recordings, which enables larger numbers of high-quality P -wave traveltime measurements than when using linear drift corrections. Our drift curves have on average an uncertainty of ∼0.11 s indicating the suitability of the corrected data for future seismological studies such as for seismic tomography, seismicity analysis and moment tensor inversions. In the northern Andes, partitioning of oblique subduction of the Nazca plate beneath the South American continent induces a northeastward motion of the North Andean Sliver. The strain resulting from this motion is absorbed by crustal faults, which have produced magnitude 7+ earthquakes historically in the Andean Cordillera of Ecuador and southern Colombia. In order to quantify the strain in that area, we derive a high-resolution surface velocity map using InSAR time-series processing. We analyzed 6–8 yr of Sentinel-1 data and combined different satellite line-of-sight directions to produce a reliable velocity map in the east direction. We use interpolated GNSS data to express the velocity map with respect to Stable South America and remove the long-wavelength pattern due to the postseismic deformation following the 2016 Mw 7.8 Pedernales earthquake. The InSAR velocity map finds high east–west shortening strain rates along north–south trending structures within the Western Cordillera and the Interandean valley, with little deformation taking place east of them. This result strengthens the previous proposition of a ∼350 km long Quito-Latacunga tectonic block, forming a restraining bend in the overall right-lateral strike-slip fault system accommodating the northeastward escape motion of the North Andean Sliver. However, the high spatial resolution provided by InSAR indicates that previously proposed boundaries for this block need to be revised. In particular, InSAR results highlight high strain rates (>300 nstrain yr−1) along undescribed active structures, south and west of the proposed limits for the Quito-Latacunga block, respectively, in Peltetec and Ibarra regions. Interestingly, the two areas with the largest strain rates spatially correlate with the proposed areas of large historical earthquakes. Modeling of the InSAR and GNSS velocities in these areas suggests shallow coupling and high slip rates on structures which, previously, were not identified as active. We also demonstrate a slow-down of the shallow aseismic slip on the Quito fault after the Pedernales earthquake, suggesting that stress changes following large megathrust events might trigger transient slip behaviors on crustal faults. The high-resolution strain map provided by this work provides a new basis for future tectonic models in the Ecuadorian and southern Colombian Andes, and will contribute to the seismic hazard assessment in this highly populated area of the Andes. The present study was designed to investigate two aspects. Firstly, analysis of variations in acute load, chronic load, workload, monotony, and training strain during the preseason (PS), first and second half of the season (1st HS, 2nd HS, respectively). Secondly, comparing these indicators of training load in player's positions. Twenty-two elite soccer players from the Premier League of Iran (age: 27.2 4.5 years, professional experience: 6.2 4.3 years) were involved in this study. Players were monitored daily for 45 weeks through an 18 Hz global positioning system (GPS), to gather data on total distance, distance running at 14 km/h (moderate intensity running), and distance running at a speed above 19.8 km/h (high-intensity running). One-way analysis of variance, followed by Tukey HSD post hoc test were applied to analyze data. The pre-season has a significantly higher amount of acute load, chronic load, monotony and training strain, of total running, and moderate-intensity running than the first half (p < 0.05) and the second half (p < 0.05). When comparing these training load indicators for high-intensity running, a significant difference was only observed between the PS and the 2nd HS (p < 0.05). Also, no significant differences were observed between positions in total running and moderate intensity running. However, training load indices based on high-intensity running between positions showed significant differences between external defenders vs center backs, midfielders and strikers. Furthermore, wingers had a significant difference in high-intensity running compared to central defenders (p < 0.05) and midfielders (p < 0.05, for all). To conclude, this study demonstrated that acute load, chronic load, monotony, and training strain were more prevalent in the pre-season and slowly decreased during the season. External defenders and wingers experienced more acute load, chronic load, monotony, and training strain for high-intensity running during the season compared to other positions. Quantitative analysis of the slip rate of active faults and their seismic parameters is important for seismic hazard analysis. In this study, we first construct an elastic block model to obtain the slip rate of boundary faults based on the distribution characteristics of active faults, seismicity, and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) observations in Sichuan–Yunnan, China. Then, the long-term seismic risks of the boundary faults are quantitatively evaluated based on the principle of seismic moment balance. The Sichuan–Yunnan region can be divided into 17 relatively independent and stable subblocks. There is clear zoning in the distribution and mechanisms of boundary fault movement and deformation. The boundary faults exhibit an alternating dextral–sinistral–dextral–sinistral strike-slip pattern from northeast to southwest. Among these boundary faults, the Xianshuihe–Xiaojiang fault zone has a high sinistral strike-slip rate, and the Jinshajiang fault plays an important role in accommodating the movement and deformation of the subblocks in the Chuandian block. The dextral strike-slip rate is approximately 10 mm/yr, which is diffusely transferred to the secondary boundary faults in the Chuandian block. Comparison of the rates of moment accumulation and release reveals that the southern segment of the Xiaojiang fault, the Longriba fault, the Daliangshan fault, and the Yuanmou fault exhibit significant moment deficits, with corresponding moment magnitudes exceeding Mw 7.5. More attention should be given to the strong earthquake risks of these faults. The Xianshuihe–Xiaojiang, Jiali–Lancangjiang, and Red River faults, which are arc shaped, dominate the regional deformation and determine the motion and deformation model of the subblocks and secondary boundary faults within the Chuandian block and the area southwest of the Red River fault. Blockchain technology is being seen as a revolutionary solution for dealing with these issues, providing a decentralized and transparent ledger for the tracking of agri-food products. By incorporating global positioning system and navigation systems within blockchain-based traceability solutions amplifies the capabilities for real-time monitoring, security, and trust. This paper proposes a layered architecture for an efficient agri-food traceability system. The data layer, manages interactions between various entities in the supply chain management and generates agri-food product-related data. The blockchain layer manages data via transactions and smart contracts, using the interplanetary file system for secure, decentralized storage. The navigation layer, combines navigation with Indian constellation and global positioning system to offer precise real-time positioning and timing services, enhancing product tracking. This integrated approach not only improves food safety but also supports sustainability efforts by reducing food waste and bolstering consumer trust in the agri-food industry. We implement the proposed system using Remix IDE, MetaMask wallet, and the Sepolia test network, summarizing the deployment analysis. Performance evaluation is conducted using the JMeter simulation toolkit.The proposed framework achieves an average throughput of 329.26 transactions per second, latency of 49.3 ms, and response time of 87.9 ms. In addition, light detection and ranging (LIDAR) and the high precision camera help to identify the turns in the road. This research aims to implement a cost-effective simultaneous localization system that can reduce the cost by half for any autonomous vehicle. : This paper introduces a compact dual-band circularly polarized (CP) slot antenna utilized for L-band Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) applications. The designed antenna structure is a printed L-shaped slot antenna (PLSA) fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW) with a squared ground plane. An L-shaped feeding line is protruded into an L-shaped slot to achieve a circular polarization operation. A reversed T-stub is adopted near the right center of the radiating patch in order to achieve a dual-band operation. The achieved fractional impedance bandwidths (FIBWs) are 5.6% (1.21–1.28 GHz) and 12.2% (1.46–1.65 GHz). The fractional axial ratio bandwidths (FARBWs) are 8.0% (1.21–1.31 GHz) and 18.0% (1.42–1.70 GHz) for the lower and upper GNSS ranges, respectively. The suggested antenna provides right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) radiation. The gain of the suggested antenna ranges between 3.0 dBic and 3.2 dBic for the lower and upper GNSS bands, respectively. The designed antenna exhibits a dual-band behavior that covers both the lower and upper GNSS bands. It has a low profile of 55 × 55 × 1.524 mm³ (0.22λ0 × 0.22λ0 × 0.006λ0), which makes it suitable for incorporating within any portable devices receiving GNSS signals. The antenna is lightweight, small in size, inexpensive with simple structure, high FARBW, high FIBW, and demonstrates CP dual-band behavior with a single input. The antenna is simulated, fabricated, and measured. The measurements verify the numerical results successfully. Vision-inertial navigation offers a promising solution for aircraft to estimate ego-motion accurately in environments devoid of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). However, existing approaches have limited adaptability for fixed-wing aircraft with high maneuverability and insufficient visual features, problems of low accuracy and subpar real-time arise. This paper introduces a novel vision-inertial heterogeneous data fusion methodology, aiming to enhance the navigation accuracy and computational efficiency of fixed-wing aircraft landing navigation. The visual front-end of the system extracts multi-scale infrared runway features and computes geo-reference runway image as observation. The infrared runway features are recognized efficiently and robustly by a lightweight end-to-end neural network from blurry infrared images, and the geo-reference runway is generated through projection of the runway's prior geographical information and prior pose. The fusion back-end of the navigation system is the Covariance Feedback Control based Cubature Kalman Filter (CFC-CKF) framework, which tightly integrates visual observations and inertial measurements for zero-drift pose estimation and curbs the effect of inaccurate kinematic noise statistics. Finally, real flight experiments demonstrate that the algorithm can estimate the pose at a frequency of 100 Hz and fulfill the navigation accuracy requirements for high-speed landing of fixed-wing aircraft. The field of satellite navigation has seen significant advancements due to the fast development of multi-constellation Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Around 150 satellites will be in service when all six systems – GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, and NAVIC – are launched by 2030, offering both enormous potential and advantages for research and engineering applications. This study used an experiment on the accuracy, particularly for short, medium, long baselines (Wide Lane ambiguity solution) of the BeiDou, QZSS and QZSS/BeiDou combinations. It showed that with the integration of BeiDou/QZSS static measurements in the study region millimetre-centimetre accuracy for short, medium, and long baselines can be attained. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the 1st (QZSS/BeiDou), 2nd (BeiDou), and 3rd (QZSS) strategies feature different horizontal accuracies for all categories. The obtained results with different satellite configurations for the Fixed-Wide-Lane integer ambiguity solution are compared with each other. Accuracy at the short baseline (BeiDou, QZSS, and BeiDou/QZSS satellites) was obtained in the range of 0.5–0.7 cm. For the medium baseline, it was computed around 1.8–82 cm. Accurate and robust localization is essential for autonomous mobile robots. Map matching based on Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors has been widely adopted to estimate the global location of robots. However, map‐matching performance can be degraded when the environment changes or when sufficient features are unavailable. Indiscriminately incorporating inaccurate map‐matching poses for localization can significantly decrease the reliability of pose estimation. This paper aims to develop a robust LiDAR‐based localization method based on map matching. We focus on determining appropriate weights that are computed from the uncertainty of map‐matching poses. The uncertainty of map‐matching poses is estimated by the probability distribution over the poses. We exploit the normal distribution transform map to derive the probability distribution. A factor graph is employed to combine the map‐matching pose, LiDAR‐inertial odometry, and global navigation satellite system information. Experimental verification was successfully conducted outdoors on the university campus in three different scenarios, each involving changing or dynamic environments. We compared the performance of the proposed method with three LiDAR‐based localization methods. The experimental results show that robust localization performances can be achieved even when map‐matching poses are inaccurate in various outdoor environments. Modern mobile robots require precise and robust localization and navigation systems to achieve mission tasks correctly. In particular, in the underwater environment, where Global Navigation Satellite Systems cannot be exploited, the development of localization and navigation strategies becomes more challenging. Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) strategies have been analyzed and tested to increase navigation accuracy and take into account the entire history of the system state. In particular, a sensor fusion algorithm relying on a MAP technique for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) has been developed to fuse information coming from a monocular camera and a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and to consider the landmark points in the navigation framework. The proposed approach can guarantee to simultaneously locate the vehicle and map the surrounding environment with the information extracted from the images acquired by a bottom‐looking optical camera. Optical sensors can provide constraints between the vehicle poses and the landmarks belonging to the observed scene. The DVL measurements have been employed to solve the unknown scale factor and to guarantee the correct vehicle localization even in the absence of visual features. Furthermore, to evaluate the mapping capabilities of the SLAM algorithm, the obtained point cloud is elaborated with a Poisson reconstruction method to obtain a smooth seabed surface. After validating the proposed solution through realistic simulations, an experimental campaign at sea was conducted in Stromboli Island (Messina), Italy, where both the navigation and the mapping performance have been evaluated. In areas where urban land subsidence is frequent and significant, there are problems with heavy workload, high cost, long observation period, and difficult technical maintenance of the regional elevation reference frame in leveling measurement. In this paper, we propose a method of using continuous operation reference stations (CORSs) as nodes to perform dynamic maintenance of regional elevation reference frames. Using continuous years of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) observation data and surface mass load data (land hydrology, atmospheric pressure, and sea level elevation), we calculate the normal height variation of CORSs, dynamically correct the normal height of CORSs, and verify the accuracy of the calculated CORS normal height variation results using multiperiod leveling observation data. The results showed that the average difference between the normal height variation determined using CORSs data and surface mass load data and the normal height variation of the station obtained by two-stage leveling measurement is 4.37 mm, and the calculated average accuracy of the normal height variation of CORSs is about 5.42 mm. CORSs demonstrating long-term stable continuous observation can be selected as nodes of the elevation control network to achieve the dynamic maintenance of the regional elevation reference framework using CORS data. Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) as an important supplement to the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) can provide great positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services in the Asia-Pacific region. Many researches related to QZSS have focused on dual-/multi-frequency precise point positioning (PPP) or real-time kinematic (RTK) technology with high user costs. In this study, the contribution of QZSS to BDS-3/2 single-frequency (SF) PPP is investigated for the first time. Experimental results show that the three-dimensional (3D) positioning accuracy of the BDS-3-only and BDS-3 + 2 ionosphere-corrected (IC) SF-PPP through QZSS enhancement can be improved by 9.3% and 1.7% to 0.883 and 0.852 m, respectively. In the ionosphere-free (IF) SF-PPP, with the introduction of QZSS, the convergence time of the BDS-3-only or BDS-3 + 2 solutions can be improved by at least 21% and 8.2% in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. After convergence, the positioning accuracy of the BDS-3-only and BDS-3 + 2 IF SF-PPP can be improved by about 10% to 0.15 m in horizontal and 0.25 m in vertical. Compared to the IF SF-PPP, the convergence time of the ionosphere-weighted (IW) SF-PPP in the BDS-3-only and BDS-3 + 2 solutions can be improved by at least 57.6% to 13.5 min in horizontal and no more than 23% to 35.0 min in vertical. In this case of rapid convergence, it is hard to further optimize the convergence time of the BDS-3/2 IW SF-PPP by integrating the QZSS. Similar phenomena also appeared in the positioning accuracy of the IW SF-PPP. Nowadays, the 3D positioning accuracy of both IF and IW SF-PPP using BDS-3/2 + QZSS observations can reach 0.3 m in the Asia-Pacific region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GNSS RTK provides precise positions in real time. This work presents a detailed performance analysis of five compact GNSS modules and four antennas used as GPS RTK Rovers over a medium baseline length. Better than 50 cm accuracy in 2- and 3-dimension is obtained within the hardware cost 200–400 USD, while sub-10 cm accuracy is achievable using dual frequency compact GNSS modules for around 1200 USD. This work also presents the comparable performance of the compact GNSS modules to their geodetic counterpart and strong antenna dependence on the solution quality. The ionosphere, partially ionized by solar radiation, is rich in free electrons and ions, affecting satellite navigation signals by altering their speed and path. This interaction often leads to signal delays of 5–10 m, complicating accurate positioning in satellite-based systems. This paper investigates the influence of global ionospheric models (GIMs) with varying Temporal Resolutions (TR) on satellite positioning accuracy and convergence time under different solar activities, represented by the years 2009 (low solar activity) and 2014 (high solar activity). The study utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS) data from three GIMs: CODG, representing the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE) GNSS model with a 2-h TR; bcom, with a 1-h TR; and b5mg, with a 5-min TR. Analysis was conducted using the GNSS Analysis Software for Multi-constellation and Multi-frequency Precise Positioning across 46 international GNSS service stations under single and dual-frequency strategies. The results indicate that precise point positioning convergence time improved by approximately 18 % and 78 % using single and dual frequencies, depending on the GIM applied. Consequently, positioning accuracy after convergence improved by about 16 % and 27 % in the horizontal and up components for ionospheric-constrained single-frequency PPP models and by 68 % and 79 % in the horizontal and up components for dual-frequency PPP models. Furthermore, vertical total electron content analysis at the MARS station revealed significant variations correlating with solar activity, underscoring the importance of selecting appropriate GIMs for accurate GNSS positioning. This study conducts an evaluation of the performance of seven ultra-high-degree Global Geopotential Models (GGMs) across Egypt, utilizing GNSS/leveling data as a basis for assessment. The models under investigation include SGG-UGM-2, XGM2019e_2159, SGG-UGM-1, GECO, EIGEN-6C4, EGM2008, and GGMplus. The evaluation procedure comprises three principal steps: an absolute assessment, the implementation of Residual Terrain Modelling (RTM), and the fitting of GGMs to GNSS/leveling data. Among the models assessed, GECO exhibited the highest performance in the absolute assessment, achieving a standard deviation (STD) of 0.310 m, while SGG-UGM-1 recorded the largest STD at 0.353 m. Given Egypt’s predominantly flat topography, the application of RTM yielded only modest benefits. Nonetheless, all models demonstrated significant enhancements in accuracy through the fitting process, with EIGEN-6C4 emerging as the most successful model, attaining an STD of 0.116 m in external assessment. The pacing and tactical race strategies of open water (OW) swimmers have been recognized as significant performance determinants in these events, despite the limited resolution of available race data due to the aquatic environment constraints. The main objective of the study was to re-examine the pacing strategies and race tactics of elite OW swimmers from new enhanced temporal resolution data during the 2022 World Championships (WCH). Data were collected from 58 males and 58 females participants classified into 5 performance groups (G1-G5) depending on their finishing positions. Average velocity, stroke rate, and partial positions were obtained for each swimmer in 17 timing points over the 10 km race (on average 550 m or 5.5% of the race distance). The pacing strategies of successful swimmers, especially men, showed a less conservative behaviour than previous WCH with leading race positions (at least top-6) from the race early stages and a lower race density (≈2%) upon arrival. The enhanced temporal resolution race data showed greater pacing variations as well as end race spurts over a shorter distance than previously reported for successful competitors. The behavioral characteristics of species may result in certain populations being inherently more susceptible to fragmentation. For example, species exhibiting spatial sexual segregation or those constrained to elongated and narrow habitats. We studied the fragmentation threats, spatial dynamics, resource utilization, and movement ecology of a particularly vulnerable species that is both sexually segregated and constrained to elongated and narrow habitat—the north Judean Desert population of Nubian ibex (Capra nubiana). From 2016‒2020 we tracked 48 marked ibex (27 male, 21 female), of which 38 (20 male, 18 female) also had global position system (GPS) collars. Using GPS‐collar and camera‐trap data in zones delineated around perennial water sources (PWSs), we calculated ibex drinking frequencies and individual utilization distributions by season and sex, focusing on their overall (95% isopleth) and core (50% isopleth) home ranges. We quantified joint space use between sexes using a utilization distribution overlap index (UDOI) and ibex daily movements and space use via movement indices. Female groups formed philopatric activity centers that were anchored around PWSs year‐round and arranged in a metapopulation‐like structure, with no female movement detected between them. Conversely, movement of adult males changed seasonally, with the cores of male groups anchored around PWSs only during the dry season, and long‐range movement between female activity centers during the rut. Female groups also spent more time at steeper terrain and higher elevations compared with male groups. Outside the rut, groups of males and groups of females exhibited minimal joint space use (i.e., average dry season UDOI was 0.06). These patterns indicate high sensitivity of this population to intersexual fragmentation by obstacles (physical or virtual). To clarify the relationship between GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) crustal deformation and the preparation of strong earthquakes in the western Chinese Mainland, a series of methods including velocity field, strain rate field, and strain parameter time series are adopted based on the GNSS observation data from the CMONOC (Crustal Movement Observation Network of China). The abnormal characteristics of crustal deformation movement before the M ≥ 5 earthquakes in the area since 1999 are studied. The corresponding variety of the crustal movement before earthquakes is discussed in combination with the seismogenic structure of earthquakes. The abnormalities of the GNSS velocity field, strain field, and strain parameter time series before earthquakes with different magnitudes are proposed. Finally, the anomaly criterion before medium-strong-large earthquakes in the western Chinese Mainland is proposed according to the GNSS and its combination with the characteristics of geological structure. Plasma blob is generally a low‐latitude phenomenon occurring at the poleward edge of equatorial plasma bubble (EPB) during post‐sunset periods. Here we report a case of midlatitude ionospheric plasma blob‐like structures occurring along with super EPBs over East Asia around sunrise during the May 2024 great geomagnetic storm. Interestingly, the blob‐like structures appeared at both the poleward and westward edges of EPBs, reached up to 40°N magnetic latitudes, and migrated westward several thousand kilometers together with the bubble. The total electron content (TEC) inside the blob‐like structures was enhanced by ∼50 TEC units relative to the ambient ionosphere. The blob‐like structure at the EPB poleward edge could be partly linked with field‐aligned plasma accumulation due to poleward development of bubble. For the blob‐like structure at the EPB west side, one possible mechanism is that it was formed and enhanced accompanying the bubble evolution and westward drift. The density‐enhanced structure is known as plasma blob. Generally, plasma blobs mainly appear at the poleward edge of EPB, being low‐latitude phenomena occurring at 10–20° magnetic latitudes. Whereas previous simulations showed that plasma blobs could appear at the east/west side of EPBs, there were few observational evidences and the driving mechanism is unclear. In this study, midlatitude plasma blob‐like structures occurring up to 40°N magnetic latitude was observed along with super EPBs during magnetic storm. Different from most blobs appearing at the EPB poleward edge, the blob‐like structures in the present study appeared at both the EPB poleward and westward edges. By using ground‐based observations from GNSS receiver networks and in‐situ measurements onboard spacecraft, the morphology and evolution of the super plasma blob‐like structures are visualized. Potential mechanisms responsible for their generation are investigated. The results highlight the coexistence of large‐scale plasma depletion and blob structures and their complex evolution with longitude and latitude, and have implications for better understanding the sudden changes of plasma density in time and altitude observed by radar. Despite routine detection of coseismic acoustic‐gravity waves (AGWs) in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) total electron content (TEC) observations, models of the earthquake‐atmosphere‐ionosphere dynamics, essential for validating data‐driven studies, remain limited. We present the results of three‐dimensional numerical simulations encompassing the entire coupling from Earth's interior to the ionosphere during the Mw ${M}_{w}$ 7.8 2016 Kaikoura earthquake. Incorporating the impact of data/model uncertainties in estimating the ionospheric state, the results show a good agreement between observed and simulated slant TEC (sTEC) signals, assessed through a set of metrics. The signals exhibit intricate waveforms, resulting from the integrated nature of TEC and phase cancellation effects, emphasizing the significance of direct signal comparisons along realistic line‐of‐sight paths. By comparing simulation results initialized with kinematic and dynamic source models, the study demonstrates the quantifiable sensitivity of sTEC to AGW source specifications, pointing to their utility in the analysis of coupled dynamics.
