The Primary Care Transformation Executive (PCTE) Fellowship at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) seeks to address these barriers by providing professional development and support to primary care providers interested in leading change in the nation’s health centers.Methods: The PCTE Fellowship is a structured, one-year interprofessional learning experience that emphasizes topics such as healthcare transformation, interprofessional practice, leadership development, and systems thinking. Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the program was accomplished through surveys and semi-structured interviews throughout the fellowship.Results: Feedback from 18 fellows showed perceived improvements in knowledge and skills related to the various curricular topics, increased engagement in leadership activities, and career advancement. Fellows developed practice and quality improvement projects and successfully implemented the projects within their health systems, addressing observed disparities.Conclusion: Professional development and directed support for primary care providers can enhance their engagement in healthcare transformation and advance health equity.Keywords: leadership, healthcare transformation, quadruple AIM, health systems science, social determinants of health, community health center, population health

Abstract

We report on the effect of organic acid capping on the behavior of magnetite nanoparticles. The nanoparticles of magnetite were obtained using microwave activated process, and the magnetic properties as well as the electron magnetic resonance behavior were studied for the Fe3O4 nanoparticles capped with alginic acid. The capped nanoparticles exhibit improved crystalline structure of the surface which leads to an enhanced magnetization. The saturation magnetization Ms increases to ~75% of the bulk magnetization. The improved structure also facilitates quantization of spin-wave spectrum in the finite size nanoparticles and this in turn is responsible for unconventional behavior at low temperatures. In magnetic resonance these anomalies are manifested as an unusual increase in the resonant field Hr(T) and also as a maximum of the spectroscopic splitting geff parameter at low temperatures. The unconventional behavior of the nanoparticles also leads to pronounced upturn of magnetization at low temperatures and a deviation from the Bloch law M(T) T^3/2., Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures

Abstract

Morphology, structure and magnetic properties of nanocomposites of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles and alginic acid (AA) are studied. Magnetite Fe3O4 nanoparticles and the nanoparticles capped with alginic acid exhibit very distinct properties. The chemical bonding between alginic acid and surface of magnetite nanoparticles results in recovery of surface magnetization. On the other hand, it also leads to enhanced surface spin disorder and unconventional behavior of magnetization observed in Fe3O4-AA nanocomposites at low temperatures., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The process of magnetic relaxation was studied in bismuth ferrite BiFeO3 multiferroic micro-cubes obtained by means of microwave assisted Pechini process. Two different mechanisms of relaxation were found. The first one is a rapid magnetic relaxation driven by the domain reorientations and/or pinning and motion of domain walls. This mechanism is also responsible for the irreversible properties at low temperatures. The power-law decay of the magnetic moment confirms that this relaxation takes place in the system of weakly interacting ferromagnetic or superferromagnetic domains. Abstract

In this report we present results of magnetization measurements and investigation of aging and memory effect in bismuth ferrite multiferroic micro-cubes obtained by means of simple microwave synthesis procedure. It is found that difference between FC and ZFC magnetizations appears at the temperature of freezing of ferromagnetic domain walls. The decay of the magnetic moment vs. time described by power-law relation and the absence of memory effect indicate domain growth mechanism rather than the spin-glass phase., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures

9. Computational studies of silica

Abstract

There are three areas of research in this thesis. The first is concerned with the silica polymorph, tridymite, with simulations carried out using three computational methods: free energy minimisation, molecular dynamics and Density Functional Theory. A number of tridymite structures with different atomic configurations have been found in nature. The simulations explore various properties of these different forms of tridymite and investigate whether it is possible to distinguish between them using the three computational techniques. It was found that the interatomic potential and simulation technique used, rather than the simulation temperature, were the main factors affecting the resulting structure. There are a number of possible explanations for this result: The techniques may not be sensitive enough to deal with an energy landscape as at as in the case of tridymite. Another reason is that the potentials have been parameterised to distinguish between structures which have reconstructive transitions (where bonds are broken and formed) and may not be able to deal with displacive transitions (where only angles between atoms change) as with tridymite. The final possible explanation is that a number of the known structures may be meta-stable and/or poorly characterised. For the second research area molecular dynamics simulations using a rigid ion two body potential were carried out in order to investigate the properties of silica melts and glasses. A number of different silica crystals were melted to see whether the melts are all similar or whether their properties can be differentiated according to the original crystal structure. At sufficiently high temperatures the starting structure did not affect the properties of the melt. Several properties of silica melts and glasses were investigated: mean square displacement, autocorrelation functions, pair distribution functions, the extent to which silicon and oxygen atoms move together, Arrhenius plots, coordination number, bond lengths and angles. Investigations were also carried out as to whether it is possible to use a shell model to simulate a silica melt. Various properties were calculated and it was found that agreement with experiment was not as accurate as when using the rigid ion model. The third research area is an exploration of the properties of amorphous silica at elevated pressures and a range of temperatures, using molecular dynamics with a rigid ion two body potential. Calculations show that, at low temperatures, the distortion of the tetrahedra is not recovered upon decompression whereas experimental results find complete recovery of the tetrahedra. There is little available experimental data on the behaviour of silica at both high pressures and temperatures. Calculations show that at high temperatures all properties of the initial structure before compression are recovered.

Polar ecosystems are experiencing amongst the most rapid rates of regional warming on Earth. Here, we discuss ‘omics’ approaches to investigate polar biodiversity, including the current state of the art, future perspectives and recommendations. We propose a community road map to generate and more fully exploit multi-omics data from polar organisms. These data are needed for the comprehensive evaluation of polar biodiversity and to reveal how life evolved and adapted to permanently cold environments with extreme seasonality. We argue that concerted action is required to mitigate the impact of warming on polar ecosystems via conservation efforts, to sustainably manage these unique habitats and their ecosystem services, and for the sustainable bioprospecting of novel genes and compounds for societal gain.

Generally, little attention is paid to the potential (unintended) consequences of LTC policies for inequality among care users or informal caregivers. Saraceno previously explicitly argued that differences in care use and provision depend on the type of LTC policy, and that policies with contrasting consequences for inequality can be implemented at the same time. We call upon future research to empirically test the impact of different types of LTC policies on socio-economic inequalities in care. To stimulate and facilitate such research, our aims are to outline theoretical arguments for the differential impact of LTC policies on socio-economic inequalities in care and to create macro-level indicators for different types of supportive LTC policies in European countries over time. Our study's research question is: Can we find and capture different dimensions of LTC policies in macro-level indicators that are comparable over countries and time? In particular, we focus on supported familialism (for example, informal caregiver support), supported defamilialization through the market (for example, in-cash benefits for care users), and defamilialization through public provision (for example, availability of beds in residential care). Besides a summary of the literature on LTC policies and how they may affect socio-economic inequalities in care, we outline our search process for macro-level LTC indicators and present descriptive information on the different types of LTC policies and their correlations. We discuss the difficulties that arise when translating theoretical insights about different types of LTC policies into high-quality measures for many countries and time points.
