This study investigates communication between UAVs using long range (LoRa) devices, focusing on the interaction between a LoRa gateway UAV and other UAVs equipped with LoRa transmitters. By conducting experiments across various geographical regions, this study aims to delineate the fundamental boundary conditions for the efficient control of a UAV fleet. The parameters under analysis encompass inter-device spacing, radio interference effects, and terrain topography. This research yields pivotal insights into communication network design and optimization, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and safety within diverse geographical contexts for UAV operations. The railway sector has been characterized by important innovations regarding digital technologies for train-to-ground communications. The actual GSM-R system is considered an obsolescent technology expected to be dismissed by 2030. The future communication systems in the rail sectors, such as Adaptable Communication Systems (ACS) and Future Railway Mobile Communication Systems (FRMCS), can manage different bearers as 4G/5G terrestrial technologies and satellites. In this environment, the new High Throughput Satellite (HTS) Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations promise very interesting performances from data rate and coverage points of view. The paper analyzes the LEO constellations of Starlink and OneWeb using public data. The Rome–Florence railway line is considered for simulations. The results evidence the LEO satellite can provide interesting performance in terms of visibility, service connectivity, and traffic capacities (up to 1 Gbps). This feature enables the LEO to fully manage a high amount of data, especially in the railway scenarios of the next years when video data applications will be more present. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drone delivery has gained increasing importance in the past few years. Recent technology advancements have allowed us to think of systems capable of transporting and delivering goods precisely and efficiently. However, in order to switch from a test environment to a real environment, many open issues need to be addressed. In this paper, we focused on drop-off point localization based on fiducial markers, analyzing different systems and the configuration of different aspects. We tested our system in a real-world environment and drew conclusions which lead us to identify the most reliable fiducial system and family for this use case. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ultrawide bandwidth (UWB) wireless technology will play a key role in short-range wireless connectivity supporting very high bit rates availability, low power consumption, and location capabilities. UWB can be conveniently deployed in the design of wireless local and personal area networks, providing advanced integrated multimedia services to nomadic users within hot-spot areas. The very large bandwidth required by the UWB signals cannot be exclusively allocated; thus, UWB band overlaps with the bands 2allocated to many other narrow-band systems. Therefore, the assessment of the interference caused by UWB devices on already-existing systems is of primary importance to ensure coexistence and, therefore, to guarantee acceptance of UWB technology worldwide. In this paper, we study the coexistence issues between an UWB-based system and universal mobile telecommunication systems, global positioning sytems, DCS1800, and fixed wireless access systems and point-to-point (PP) links terminals. UWB interference is evaluated accounting for the UWB signal model, a realistic UWB master/slave system architecture with power-controlled terminals. Furthermore, we analyze the dependence of the UWB interference from the UWB signal parameters and demonstrate through computer simulation that, in all practical cases, a UWB system can coexist with the selected victim terminals without causing any dangerous interference.
