Vector and scalar potentials are used for convenience in solving boundary value problems involving electromagnetic (EM) fields. The potentials are made unique by choosing a non-unique gauge relationship. The most commonly used gauges are those named for Lorenz and Coulomb, both of which may be defined as special cases of what is termed the velocity gauge, or v-gauge. This generalized gauge is not usually taught to students of electrodynamics. Using Langevin Dynamic simulations, we study effects of the shear force on the rupture of a double stranded DNA molecule. The model studied here contains two single diblock copolymers interacting with each other. The elastic constants of individual segments of the diblock copolymer are considered to be different. We showed that the magnitude of the rupture force depends on whether the force is applied at $3'-3'-$ends or $5'-5'-$ends. Distributions of extension in hydrogen bonds and covalent bonds along the chain show the striking differences. Motivated by recent experiments, we have also calculated the variation of rupture force for different chain lengths. Results obtained from simulations have been validated with the analytical calculation based on the ladder model of DNA., Comment: 7 pages and 4 figures

10. Single polymer gating of channels under a solvent gradient

We study the effect of a gradient of solvent quality on the coil-globule transition for a polymer in a narrow pore. A simple self-attracting self-avoiding walk model of a polymer in solution shows that the variation in the strength of interaction across the pore leads the system to go from one regime (good solvent) to the other (poor solvent) across the channel. This may be thought analogous to thermophoresis, where the polymer goes from the hot region to the cold region under the temperature gradient. The behavior of short chains is studied using exact enumeration whilst the behavior of long chains is studied using transfer matrix techniques. We study the effects of the shear force on the rupture mechanism on a double stranded DNA. Motivated by recent experiments, we perform the atomistic simulations with explicit solvent to obtain the distributions of extension in hydrogen and covalent bonds below the rupture force. We obtain a significant difference between the atomistic simulations and the existing results in the iterature based on the coarse-grained models (theory and simulations). We discuss the possible reasons and improve the coarse-grained model by incorporating the consequences of semi-microscopic details of the nucleotides in its description. The distributions obtained by the modified model (simulations and theoretical) are qualitatively similar to the one obtained using atomistic simulations., Comment: 18 pages, 9 figures. Accepted in J. 12. Psychosocial Factors in Children and Adolescents with Conversion Disorder

- Abstract
Introduction: In view of the limited studies on the psychosocial environment of children presenting with conversion disorders, the present study was carried out to study the psychosocial factors in children with conversion disorders. Method: 40 patients of Conversion Disorder, who presented with "pseudo seizures" and were diagnosed according to DSM IV criteria, comprised the sample. They underwent detailed psychiatric assessment. The psychosocial events and factors and were elicited by administering the PSLES and by interviewing the parent and child by a semi-structured interview, which covered details of school history, family environment, psychosexual and other behavior: The intellectual level of the patients was assessed by a battery of psychological instruments. Relevant investigations, hormonal assays, radiological, EEG etc. were done wherever necessary. Results: Majority of the patients were educated up to 5th class, had rural domicile and belonged to poor and lower middle SES. They were about equally represented in the two sexes. Borderline Intellectual functioning, improper schooling, family stress and current past/physical illness were present in 37.5-40 % (N=15-16) of the cases. Incidental radiological and EEG findings and unusual status of the child; only son, only child or the youngest child; were present in 33% (N=13) of the cases. Conversion/epilepsy in family/neighbour/friend and improper parenting was encountered in 22.5-20.5% (N=8-9) of the cases. Lastly, recent loss of loved one and sibling rivalry were seen to be significant in 7.5 to 12.5% (N=3-5) of the cases. 80 % of the patients had 2-3 contributory factors; the remaining had either 4 or 5 contributory factors. Conclusion: Stress was apparent in the areas of school, family and body. Greater attention must be paid both by teachers and parents by supervising the children's studies more closely. Parenting skills need to be sharpened for the better functioning of the child. Attention needs to be paid to better physical health during infancy and early childhood. (Contains 3 tables.)

13. Role of loop entropy in the force induced melting of DNA hairpin

Dynamics of a single stranded DNA, which can form a hairpin have been studied in the constant force ensemble. Using Langevin dynamics simulations, we obtained the force-temperature diagram, which differs from the theoretical prediction based on the lattice model. Probability analysis of the extreme bases of the stem revealed that at high temperature, the hairpin to coil transition is entropy dominated and the loop contributes significantly in its opening. However, at low temperature, the transition is force driven and the hairpin opens from the stem side. It is shown that the elastic energy plays a crucial role at high force. We develop a simple model to study the effects of an applied force on the melting of a double stranded DNA (dsDNA). Using this model, we could study the stretching, unzipping, rupture and slippage like transition in a dsDNA. We show that in absence of an applied force, the melting temperature and the melting profile of dsDNA strongly depend on the constrained imposed on the ends of dsDNA. Single molecule force spectroscopy provide details of the underlying energy surfaces of proteins which are essential to the understanding of their unfolding process. Recently, it has been observed experimentally that by pulling proteins in different directions relative to their secondary structure, one can gain a better understanding of the shape of the energy landscape. We consider simple lattice models which are anisotropic in nature to study the response of a force in unfolding of a polymer. Our analytical solution of the model, supported by extensive numerical calculations, reveal that the force temperature diagrams are very different depending on the direction of the applied force. We find that either unzipping or shearing kind transitions dominate the dynamics of the unfolding process depending solely on the direction of the applied force., Comment: 8 pages, 11 figures

20. Evolution of the electronic structure of cyclic polythiophene upon bipolaron doping

Electronic structures of undoped and doped cyclic polythiophene (PT) are studied using modified $\sigma$-bond compressibility model. Cyclic PT doped with odd number of bipolarons creates an aromatic polyene backbone containing (4$n$+2) $\pi$-electrons and the system is driven towards the quinoid form. Consequently, we find an insulator-metal transition for dopant concentration $\geq$ 14 mol $\%$ and a $\sim$ 0.8 eV redshift in Fermi energy at 30 mol$\%$. For even number of bipolarons, we propose here that the form having two singly occupied degenerate orbitals will be stable in a sufficiently large cyclic PT., Comment: 10 pages, REVTEX file (4 figures available on request)

21. A study of one dimensional correlated disordered systems using invariant measure method

The behavior of electronic states of one dimensional correlated disordered systems which are modelled by a tight binding Hamiltonian is studied analytically using the invariant measure method. The approach of Bovier is generalized to include the possibility of different site energies and nearest neighbor hopping integrals inside the correlated sites or the cluster. The process is further elaborated by applying to the symmetric random trimer model which contains in it many hitherto known models of this category. An alternative mathematical definition of the exceptional energy ($E_S$) from the invariant measure density along with physical arguments substantiating it is presented. Furthermore, the procedure for obtaining exceptional energies is outlined and applied to the symmetric random trimer model to derive conditions for obtaining doubly degenerate exceptional energies. The Lyapunov exponent ($\gamma (E)$) or the inverse localization length of states around the exceptional energy is found to vary as $\sim (E - E_S)^{2n}$ in the leading order. $n$ denotes the degeneracy of the exceptional energy. The density of states at the exceptional energies are calculated. We further propose that one dimensional correlated disordered systems can be mapped to a Lloyd model in which the width of the distribution of site energies is determined by the reflection coefficient of the cluster embedded in the lattice of the another constituent. Dandruff is a common scalp disorder affecting almost half of the population. According to ayurveda, dandruff may be correlated to darunaka which is the most common cause of hair loss. Ayurveda classics dealt the different procedures and medications to treat the disease darunaka (dandruff). As a person with dandruff is more likely to feel down on the social ring, it is more of social concern and affects aesthetic value. Under kshudraroga, acharya sushruta referred to darunaka with symptoms such as rukshata, kandu, sphutana twak, etc. Dandruff may occur due to air pollution, water pollution, altered lifestyle, erratic daily routine, poor hygiene, and immune system, sweating, mental stress, etc., which can lead to many infections of bacteria and fungi. It is a common scalp condition that affects approximately half of the pre-pubertal age population and any gender and ethnicity. At some point in their lives, no population in any geographical area would have openly gone by without being affected by dandruff. The line of care for darunaka in the classics is shiroabhyanga, nasya, shirodhara, shirobasti, shirolepa and siravyadha. A review of ayurvedic management for dandruff (darunaka). Ancient acharyas have stated a multidimensional approach towards the management of darunaka. The multidimensional approach of ayurveda towards management of darunaka in the form of shodhana chikitsa, shamana aushadhis, and sthanika chikitsa along with nidana parivarjana gives satisfactory results to the patient.

The study was concluded in riverine flora of different rivulets 'Kheeree Rau', 'Semal Rau', 'Pathar Rau', 'Mohan Rau of the river Hindon have been worked out on plant species diversity in sesanol riverine tract of subtropical of shivalick range. The study is restricted to 50 m from either side of the Rau. A total of 152 plant species belonging to 152 genera and 54 families are recorded from the study area of the right bank. A total of 125 plant species belonging to 125 genera and 47 families are recorded in the study area of left bank Herbs appear to be dominant with 132 (69.9%) species followed by shrubs 37 (19.7%) species and 14 (7.3%) tree species and 06 (3.1%) climber species. Herbs appear to be dominant with 112 (72.9%) species followed by shrubs 25 (17.7%) species and 11 (6.3%) tree species and 04 (4.1%) climber species in the left bank. The biological spectrum reveals that the vegetation of the area is thermophanerophytic. Therophytes represent the highest (50.3%) lifeforms followed by Phenerophytes (29.0%) and Hemicryptophytes (8.3%). The highest percentage of therophytes in the area may be due to low soil cover, low moisture due to sandy soil and favourable period (rainy season) for annual growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Publisher's version (útgefin grein), Sex differences have been observed in multiple facets of cancer epidemiology, treatment and biology, and in most cancers outside the sex organs. Efforts to link these clinical differences to specific molecular features have focused on somatic mutations within the coding regions of the genome. Here we report a pan-cancer analysis of sex differences in whole genomes of 1983 tumours of 28 subtypes as part of the ICGC/TCGA Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes (PCAWG) Consortium. We both confirm the results of exome studies, and also uncover previously undescribed sex differences. These include sex-biases in coding and non-coding cancer drivers, mutation prevalence and strikingly, in mutational signatures related to underlying mutational processes.
