Abstract

NA62 is a precision physics experiment studying charged kaons and their decayproducts with an unprecedented accuracy (measurement of the K + → π + ννbranching ratio of the order of 10 −11), allowing indirect probes of new physicsscales up to O(100) TeV. NA62 experiment also searches directly for weaklyinteracting particles of up to O(100) MeV masses in kaon decays and up to O(1)GeV masses when running in the beam dump mode. For both modes of directsearches, NA62 has been collecting data since 2021 after a successful 2016-18run 1. Past results and future prospects are presented in this talk.

Abstract

The development of the technology and techniques of dispersing metal alloys is important both from the point of view of improving the quality of powders, as well as increasing the volume of production and increasing the economic and ecological safety of the technosphere. Metal powder is an indispensable functional component for many modern branches of industry. Against the background of the growing demands for the production of metal powders, we have developed and optimized a new device for hydro-vacuum dispersion of melts, the essence of innovation and advantage of which lies in sucking and dispersing the melt in the direction opposite to the action of the force of gravity, under 150-200g gravity overload conditions, where the main work is performed by hydraulic rarefaction resulting from a sharp (on 162°) refraction of direction and rapid expansion of a high-pressure water annular flow, with the superimposition of spatial shock- pulsating waves generated in the outer shell of the formed cone-shaped vortex. The device is characterized by high production and low energy costs, while powders - by increased specific surface, improved purity and high activity.

Abstract

Two hundred forty six patients with eating disorders (EDs) recruited from eight Italian specialized treatment centres were administered with the World Health Organization “Encounter Form,” a standardized schedule that makes it possible to characterize the clinical pathways that patients follow to reach specialized care. The median time from symptoms onset to specialized care was 114 weeks. Primary “points of access to care” were general practitioners (25%), psychiatrists (18%), and clinical nutritionists (17%), followed by various other carers. All patients received specific psychotherapy, whereas only 11% of them were given psychotropic drugs. EDs are characterized by complex care pathways, with low rates of direct access to specialized care. Although the role of general practitioners remains crucial, they tend to follow different clinical routes to refer ED patients. Educational programmes on EDs should be addressed to general practitioners and clinical nutritionists, in order to ease the transition of ED patients to a mental health care setting.

Abstract

There is no real consensus on the ideal nutritional approach to recommend for gestational diabetes (GDM) treatment. A carbohydrates reduction (low-carb) is frequently suggested, although many studies have not found any consistent beneficial effects. On the other hand, according to recent meta-analyses, a low glycemic index (GI) diet would have favorable effects for the mother and the child. Although the clinical and practical value of GI is still being studied, a low GI diet seems to be the most appropriate approach in GDM. In addition, soluble fibers may have a beneficial metabolic impact in the short time of pregnancy. More evidence on the impact of these nutritional approaches in the short and long term for mother and child is needed.

Abstract

Aim To describe the methods and feasibility of the nutritional intervention carried out within the SPRINTT Randomized cotrolled trial. We also illustrate how nutrition interventionists identified participants at risk of malnutrition and the lessons learnt from the nutrition intervention. Findings SPRINTT nutrition intervention was well-received by the majority of the participants. It was mainly carried out using tailored nutrition counselling, but also other means of delivering the intervention were successfully used. Compared with a standard nutrition prescription, an individualized protocol to diagnose malnutrition and follow-up by tailored nutrition counselling helped achieve nutritional targets more effectively in spite of diversity of population in nutritional habits and in some cases reluctance to accept changes. Message The SPRINTT nutrition intervention was feasible and allowed flexibility to the varying needs and cultural differences of this heterogeneous population of frail, older Europeans. It may serve as a model to educate and improve nutrition among community-dwelling older people at risk of mobility limitations. Supplementary Information The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s41999-020-00438-4., Background The “Sarcopenia and Physical Frailty in Older People: Multicomponent Treatment Strategies” (SPRINTT) project sponsored a multi-center randomized controlled trial (RCT) with the objective to determine the effect of physical activity and nutrition intervention for prevention of mobility disability in community-dwelling frail older Europeans. We describe here the design and feasibility of the SPRINTT nutrition intervention, including techniques used by nutrition interventionists to identify those at risk of malnutrition and to carry out the nutrition intervention. Methods SPRINTT RCT recruited older adults (≥ 70 years) from 11 European countries. Eligible participants (n = 1517) had functional limitations measured with Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB score 3–9) and low muscle mass as determined by DXA scans, but were able to walk 400 m without assistance within 15 min. Participants were followed up for up to 3 years. The nutrition intervention was carried out mainly by individual nutrition counseling. Nutrition goals included achieving a daily protein intake of 1.0–1.2 g/kg body weight, energy intake of 25–30 kcal/kg of body weight/day, and serum vitamin D concentration ≥ 75 mmol/L. Survey on the method strategies and feasibility of the nutrition intervention was sent to all nutrition interventionists of the 16 SPRINTT study sites. Results Nutrition interventionists from all study sites responded to the survey. All responders found that the SPRINTT nutrition intervention was feasible for the target population, and it was well received by the majority. The identification of participants at nutritional risk was accomplished by combining information from interviews, questionnaires, clinical and laboratory data. Although the nutrition intervention was mainly carried out using individual nutritional counselling, other assisting methods were used as appropriate. Conclusion The SPRINTT nutrition intervention was feasible and able to adapt flexibly to varying needs of this heterogeneous population. The procedures adopted to identify older adults at risk of malnutrition and to design the appropriate intervention may serve as a model to deliver nutrition intervention for community-dwelling older people with mobility limitations. Abstract

The current study presents a highly sensitive and selective surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) based method for detecting Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) in food and water samples. The bioassay includes target bacteria recognition by a specific aptamer complex, fast syringe filtration and the assessment of unbound biorecognition complexes using a silver-coated porous silicon SERS platform. Notably, the developed bioassay showed high sensitivity toward S. aureus detection, achieving an impressive detection limit of 2 CFU mL−1 and a broad linear response of 101–106 CFU mL−1. Furthermore, the selectivity, regeneration and overall shelf-life were thoroughly evaluated while depicting satisfactory performances. Finally, the practicality of the developed SERS bioassay was elucidated in various samples (i.e., fish, milk, groundwater and tahini) spiked with different S. aureus concentrations that revealed recovery values of 93–110%. The successful validation of actual samples' analysis emphasizes the platform's reliability, robustness and suitability for practical use, including on-site operation.

Background: Treatment resistant depression (TRD) is diagnosed when patients experiencing a major depressive episode fail to respond to ≥2 treatments. Along with substantial indirect costs, patients with TRD have higher healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) than other patients with depression. However, research on the economic impact of this HCRU, and differences according to response to treatment, is lacking. Methods: This multicenter, observational study documented HCRU among patients with TRD in European clinical practice initiating new antidepressant treatments. Data regarding access to outpatient consultations and other healthcare resources for the first 6 months, collected using a questionnaire, were analyzed qualitatively according to response and remission status. The economic impact of HCRU, estimated using European costing data, was analyzed quantitatively. Results: Among 411 patients, average HCRU was higher in non-responders, attending five times more general practitioner (GP) consultations and spending longer in hospital (1.7 versus 1.1 days) than responders. Greater differences were observed according to remission status, with non-remitters attending seven times more GP consultations and spending approximately three times longer in hospital (1.7 versus 0.6 days) than remitters. Consequently, the estimated economic impacts of non-responders and non-remitters were significantly greater than those of responders and remitters, respectively. Limitations: Key limitations are small cohort size, absence of control groups and generalizability to different healthcare systems.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: We explore the personality of counties as assessed through linguistic patterns on social media. Such studies were previously limited by the cost and feasibility of large-scale surveys; however, language-based computational models applied to large social media datasets now allow for large-scale personality assessment. METHOD: We applied a language-based assessment of the five factor model of personality to 6,064,267 U.S. Twitter users. We aggregated the Twitter-based personality scores to 2,041 counties and compared to political, economic, social, and health outcomes measured through surveys and by government agencies. RESULTS: There was significant personality variation across counties. Openness to experience was higher on the coasts, conscientiousness was uniformly spread, extraversion was higher in southern states, agreeableness was higher in western states, and emotional stability was highest in the south. Across 13 outcomes, language-based personality estimates replicated patterns that have been observed in individual-level and geographic studies. This includes higher Republican vote share in less agreeable counties and increased life satisfaction in more conscientious counties. CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that regions vary in their personality and that these differences can be studied through computational linguistic analysis of social media. Furthermore, these methods may be used to explore other psychological constructs across geographies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate at a mid-term follow up, the radiological survival of an uncemented humeral stem in shoulder arthroplasty. One hundred and twenty-six replacements including hemi (HA), total (TSA) and reverse (RSA) implanted from 1999 to 2008 were reviewed at a mean follow up of 7.2 years (48-144 months). The same uncemented triconical stem (SMR, Lima Corporate) was implanted. There were: 23 HSA, 43 TSA, 60 RSA. An independent observer evaluated all the patients with Constant Score. A radiologic analysis by an expert radiologist and an orthopaedic surgeon was performed: humeral component-bone interface was divided in seven zones. They judged a mobilisation if a migration or tilt of the humeral implant or if≥ 2 mm radiolucent line in at least three zones was present. Chi-squared test, Fisher test and analysis of variance were performed and a p0.05 was considered statistically significant. No major radiological signs of loosening and no tilt or migration of the humeral component were found. Only 23 (18.2%) patients had no RL around the humeral implant. In the remaining 103 (81.7%) implants: 96 (76.1%) presented RL less than 2 mm, particularly 75 (59.5%) in less than 3 zones and 21 (16.6%) in more than 3 zones. Of the remaining 7 (5.5%) implants the presence of RL of 2 mm or greater in only one zone was seen. Apart from sepsis no revision was performed for humeral component loosening. Although a high rate of RL, uncemented humeral stem has an excellent survivorship at a mid-term follow up. Relationship between presence, position and depth of RL and internal stress shielding is commonly observed but does not appear to compromise quality of fixation or clinical outcomes in shoulder arthroplasty.

37. Estimating geographic subjective well-being from Twitter: A comparison of dictionary and data-driven language methods

Abstract

Researchers and policy makers worldwide are interested in measuring the subjective well-being of populations. When users post on social media, they leave behind digital traces that reflect their thoughts and feelings. Aggregation of such digital traces may make it possible to monitor well-being at large scale. However, social media-based methods need to be robust to regional effects if they are to produce reliable estimates. Using a sample of 1.53 billion geotagged English tweets, we provide a systematic evaluation of word-level and data-driven methods for text analysis for generating well-being estimates for 1,208 US counties. We compared Twitter-based county-level estimates with well-being measurements provided by the Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index survey through 1.73 million phone surveys. We find that word-level methods (e.g., Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count [LIWC] 2015 and Language Assessment by Mechanical Turk [LabMT]) yielded inconsistent county-level well-being measurements due to regional, cultural, and socioeconomic differences in language use. However, removing as few as three of the most frequent words led to notable improvements in well-being prediction. Data-driven methods provided robust estimates, approximating the Gallup data at up to r = 0.64. We show that the findings generalized to county socioeconomic and health outcomes and were robust when poststratifying the samples to be more representative of the general US population. Regional well-being estimation from social media data seems to be robust when supervised data-driven methods are used.

Abstract

Objectives: To identify the variables that are associated with persistence to Aripiprazole-Long Acting (A-LAI), in adult patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Observational, retrospective, non-interventional study involving 261 patients with schizophrenia. Results: Eighty-six percent of study subjects were persistent for at least 6 months. All subjects with baseline CGI-S of 1 or 2, 95% of subjects with CGI-S of 3, 86% with CGI-S of 4, 82% of subjects with CGI-S of 5, 73% of subjects with CGI of 6 and 90% of subjects with CGI of 7 were persistent. A-LAI treatment continuation rate was higher in patients with: 1) baseline CGI score ≤ 4; 2) schizophrenia dimension (LDPS) mania score ≤ 5; 3) psychotic spectrum schizoid score ≤ 11. Conclusions: A relatively high number of patients (n = 225, 86%) were persistent to A-LAI for at least 6 months. Not surprisingly, very severe patients were more unlikely to be persistent. However, it is noteworthy that a large number of subjects with high CGI score at the time when A-LAI was started (82% of subjects with CGI-S of 5, 73% of subjects with CGI of 6 and 90% of subjects with CGI of 7) were persistent. Larger, controlled, prospective and longer studies are warranted

In Georgia, there are 40 species from 21 genera and nine families of rodents, along with one species from a single genus and a family of hares. The dataset, which includes 3146 records, provides information regarding the presence of these species within 1559 locations. Of the total of 3146 records, 285 records from 281 locations belong to hares, while 2864 records from 1394 locations are associated with rodents. The dataset incorporates data sourced from various institutions, including the Collection of the Institute of Zoology of Ilia State University, the Georgian National Museum, the Collection of the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University, as well as data extracted from literature and our own field data. The method for establishing the dataset included data compilation from all the above-mentioned sources. The dataset includes records from 1855 through to 2022.In this publication, out of 3146 records, 14.9% are our new unpublished data. The unpublished data were collected from 2004 through to 2022. In total, 26% of all records are literature data, 50% are museum data and 24% are data collected by us. The dataset includes data obtained from literature sources, museum collections and the field observations. It includes occurrences of species found in the same locality, but within different years, resulting in separate records for each location. The dataset provided has the potential to significantly contribute to our understanding of the distribution of rodents and hares in Georgia.

Abstract

Of the 108 species that occur in Georgia, ten species are insectivores belonging to the order Eulipotyphla. Forty percent of them are endemic to the Caucasus and sixty percent are endemic to the Middle East, including the Caucasus. Up to now, no comprehensive data on the distribution of insectivores in Georgia have been available.The aggregated standardised data on the occurrence of small mammals can be applied to resource management, biogeography, ecological and systematic studies and to the planning of nature conservation efforts. Hereafter, the attempt to provide accumulated in one paper all known points of insectivores' occurrence in Georgia and make it available to researchers via the open repository GBIF is presented.The dataset is based on both literature data from 30 published sources (251 records), collection vouchers from four main zoological collections containing vouchers from Georgia (415 records) and authors' fieldwork results (217 records). The occurrence points of the specimens stored in collections and museums have been extracted from museum voucher labels and museum journals.All known sampling points of insectivores in Georgia are collected in one dataset for the first time. Our field surveillance data reach about 24.6% of the records. Most of our data collected since 2003 have not been published yet. About 28.4% of the records have been recovered from publications in Russian and Georgian languages and 47% of the dataset records are derived from collections.

50. Bats of Georgia - an occurrence dataset from 1835 through 2022

Abstract

In Georgia, currently, 30 species of bats are recorded from four families and eleven genera. Although the oldest record of bats is from 1835 and continues until today, there are no comprehensive data available for bat diversity and distribution in Georgia. Thus, we aimed to fill that gap and make complete, expertly curated literature and our own published data openly available (through GBIF) for researchers and conservationists.In this publication, out of 1987 records, 1243 (62.4%) are new and unpublished data. Generally, out of all records, 34% are literature and museum data and 66% are data collected by us. Additionally, for the first time in the history of the study of bats in Georgia, we initiated surveys in forested areas of the country.
