Le patrimoine pénitentiaire de la Guyane et de la Nouvelle-Calédonie est constitué de vestiges d’une grande valeur, tant par leur intégrité qu’en ce qu’ils reflètent une histoire commune à ces deux territoires. La colonisation pénitentiaire de ces deux anciennes colonies par la France de 1852 à 1953 a entraîné l’envoi de plus de 100 000 forçats avec pour objectif de favoriser leur installation sur place à l’issue de leur peine afin d’assurer l’implantation d’une société de peuplement. Tout en participant au développement économique de l’empire colonial français, cette pénalité visait à réinsérer socialement des milliers de condamnés regardés comme indésirables sur le sol métropolitain et de certaines colonies. Ce modèle s’inspirait directement de celui mis en œuvre par la Grande-Bretagne en Australie qui, de 1788 à 1868, y a envoyé plus de 160 000 forçats. En 2010, l’Australie a fait procéder à l’inscription à la liste du patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco de onze de ses sites pénitentiaires. Cette opération a permis de convertir d’anciens pénitenciers associés à une mémoire douloureuse en des sites touristiques et mémoriels de premier plan. Cet article présente le patrimoine pénitentiaire exceptionnel de la Guyane et de la Nouvelle-Calédonie et les atouts dont disposent ses vestiges pour pouvoir à leur tour rejoindre la liste du patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco. The prison heritage of French Guiana and New-Caledonia consists of remains of great value, both for their integrity and the fact that they reflect a shared history to those two territories. The prison colonisation of these two old colonies by France from 1852 to 1953 has led to the sending of more than 100,000 convicts with the aim to encourage them to move on site at the end of their sentence in order to ensure the establishment of a society of settlement. While taking part in the economic development of the French colonial empire, this penalty aimed at the reintegration into society of thousands of convicted people seen as undesirable on French metropolitan soil and of other colonies. This model was directly inspired from the one implemented by Great Britain in Australia which sent there, from 1788 to 1868, more than 160,000 convicts. In 2010, Australia initiated the inscription on Unesco’s world heritage list of eleven of its penal sites. This operation enabled the conversion of old prisons associated with a painful memory into first-class tourist attractions and remembrance sites. This article presents the exceptional prison heritage of French Guiana and New-Caledonia and the assets of its remains so that they can, in turn, join Unesco’s world heritage list.

El presente manual es el resultado de la evaluación de la instalación de un viñedo demostrativo en la Estación Experimental Agropecuaria Concordia del INTA. En dicho documento se encuentra información técnica y económica necesaria para la instalación de un viñedo y recomendaciones sobre el tratamiento de las plantas de vid desde su plantación hasta la entrada en producción. La avena (Avena sativa L.) es una de las especies con mayor importancia como recurso forrajero en la región semiárida pampeana. Comparado al resto de la región pampeana, la región semiárida presenta particulares condiciones edafoclimáticas, como menores niveles de materia orgánica, temperaturas y pluviometría más bajas. Debido a estas condiciones adversas para la degradación de sustancias químicas, se presentan con frecuencia problemas de fitotoxicidad en la implantación de avena, asociados a la prolongada persistencia de los herbicidas. Particularmente algunos principios activos inhibidores de la ALS/AHAS aplicados para el control de malezas en barbechos ó cultivos estivales, entre 6 y 8 meses antes de la siembra de avena, suelen ser causantes de fitotoxicidad. A este fenómeno se lo define como “carryover” y hace referencia a los residuos de herbicidas en el suelo en concentraciones fitotóxicas para los cultivos subsiguientes en la rotación. The fight against Alzheimer's disease is one of the great challenges of our century. More than 47.5 million people suffer from dementia in the world and Alzheimer's accounts for 70% of these diseases. It is estimated that a new case of Alzheimer's is diagnosed every minute in the world and in 2050 this figure will have tripled. However, humankind refuses to give up. For this reason, hundreds of foundations and associations have opened their doors to try to fight this disease. One of the most outstanding foundations in this area is the Pasqual Maragall Foundation. This Foundation is currently working on a program for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease at the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Centre (BBRC). Dr. Stavros Skouras is part of the prevention program that is carried out at the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and has contacted the authors of this report to help in the project, due to the agreement between the Foundation and the UPC. Dr. Stavros requests for the development of a virtual reality application in order to use it in one of the studies that belong to the program. The study consists of the use of two innovative techniques, neurofeedback (NF) combined with real time functional magnetic resonance imaging (rt-fMRI), and virtual reality (VR). The patient is introduced into a magnetic resonance scanner with virtual reality devices, through which he interacts with the virtual environment designed. Then, from the aforementioned technique, a series of images of the brain of the patient are captured, and these are processed by Matlab, which determines the degree of brain activity development in the hippocampus by means of a single variable. The developed application must be able to treat this variable created by Matlab and translate it into the form of a change within the virtual environment, and thus close the feedback loop. The objective of this study is to obtain neuromarkers, based on the implementation of this technique. These neuromarkers will be studied, using advanced methods, in order to establish a relationship between the development of this marker and the risk that the patient will suffer from the disease. Therefore, the objective of the project is to develop a virtual reality application, through Unity platform, capable of being used in this complex experimental clinical study and that meets with the requirements that Dr. Stavros will be marking during the course of the project.

This pot study assessed the effects of deferring forage during autumn and leaving as winter cover on reducing cold damage to plants of 2 tropical (C4) grasses (Chloris gayana and Panicum coloratum) in a temperate environment in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mature plants were subjected to the following treatments: (i) autumn-deferred forage retained (DF) as control; and (ii) autumn-deferred forage removed (DFR) cutting at 15 cm from soil level at beginning of winter. This experiment had 10 replicates per treatment and 1 plant per pot (experimental unit). Plants of both species were extracted from a commercial beef farm and transplanted into an experimental garden in pots where they grew outdoors from 2 February to 23 May (111 days) when treatments were applied. After winter, both grasses were cut to 15 cm in early spring (27 September) and spring growth was measured in November. Shoot biomass was harvested at ground level and separated into lower and upper layers (above and below 15 cm), leaf blades, sheaths and stolons. Daily air temperature, relative humidity and frost events were registered. Allometric analysis of shoot biomass was performed to determine the stress incidence by cold. DF plants achieved 55‒80% higher shoot biomass than DFR plants during spring in both species. The allometric analysis revealed for P. coloratum significant relationships between shoot biomass from plant compartments (lower and upper layers, leaf blade and sheath) and total shoot biomass in both treatments, indicating good cold tolerance. However, for C. gayana, unlike DF plants, DFR plants were strongly stressed, showing a lack of shoot biomass fit. These results suggest that deferring autumn forage growth and retaining as winter cover may improve survival during winter and productivity during spring of these two tropical grasses in temperate pastoral systems. However, the study needs to be repeated under field conditions and under grazing or cutting over a number of years in different situations to verify these preliminary results. En La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina, en un experimento en macetas a aire libre (condiciones de luz y temperatura naturales) se evaluó el efecto del forraje diferido como cobertura invernal en 2 gramíneas tropicales C4 (Chloris gayana y Panicum coloratum). Plantas adultas fueron extraídas de un establecimiento ganadero, trasplantadas a macetas en un jardín experimental y, después de crecer durante 111 días, sometidas el 23 de Mayo a los tratamientos: (1) control [sin remoción del forraje diferido de otoño (DF)]; y (2) remoción del forraje diferido de otoño (DFR) después de un corte a 15 cm del suelo. Se utilizaron 10 repeticiones por tratamiento y una planta por maceta (unidad experimental). Las plantas fueron cosechadas el 27 de Septiembre (después del invierno) y nuevamente en Noviembre, mediante corte a ras del suelo, para medir la biomasa del rebrote primaveral en los estratos superior (>15 cm) e inferior (

El movimiento sistémico del glifosato está determinado por el transporte de fotoasimilados. A su vez, la capacidad de un destino de consumir los asimilados está condicionada por su actividad metabólica. Pese a su importancia, la relación entre el glifosato y la síntesis de azúcares en hojas fuente ha sido poco abordada. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar los efectos del glifosato sobre el crecimiento y la acumulación de azúcares libres en dos biotipos de Lolium perenne de baja y alta sensibilidad al herbicida. Se trabajó con clones de ambos tipos de plantas, en macollaje, tratados con 1.440 g e.a. ha-1 de glifosato y sin tratamiento herbicida como controles. Se evaluó periódicamente el efecto del glifosato sobre el rebrote de hojas hasta las 50 horas post-aplicación y sobre los niveles de azúcares libres totales, reductores y no reductores en hojas a 1, 2, 3 y 5 días post-aplicación. A partir de las 25 horas post-aplicación, el glifosato provocó una disminución del crecimiento del 58% en el biotipo susceptible, con una acumulación de azúcares libres superior al 90% con relación al control, desde el primer día post-aplicación en adelante. La inhibición del crecimiento, inducida por el glifosato en plantas susceptibles, no depende de la limitación del traslado de fotoasimilados desde la parte aérea. Por tanto, la acumulación de azúcares libres en hojas podría explicarse por la caída en la tasa de crecimiento. En el biotipo de baja sensibilidad, en el que no se detectó inhibición del crecimiento, estos efectos fueron limitados. The systemic movement of glyphosate is determined by the transport of photoassimilates. In turn, the capacity of a destination to consume assimilates is conditioned by their metabolic activity. Despite its importance, the relationship between the glyphosate and the sugar synthesis from source leaves has been little studied. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of glyphosate on the growth and free sugar accumulation of two Lolium perenne biotypes of low and high glyphosate sensitivity. It was worked with clones of both types, in tillering, sprayed with 1,440 g a.e. ha-1 of glyphosate as treatments and without herbicide as controls. The glyphosate effects on the regrowth of leaves was studied until 50 hours post-application and on total free sugar, reducing free sugar and nonreducing free sugar from leaves to 1, 2, 3 and 5 days post-application were periodically evaluated. From 25 hours after glyphosate application, it caused on the susceptible biotype a growth decrease of 58% and an accumulation of free sugar above 90% compared to controls. In susceptible biotypes, growth inhibition does not depend on a reduced photoassimilate translocation from the overground part. Therefore, the free sugar accumulation in leaves could be explained by the fall in the rate of growth.
