Este artigo, quase um ensaio, contém algumas reflexões sobre os olhares e dilemas do ensino de Comunicação, registrando as idas e vindas, principalmente, do curso de Comunicação Social da Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM), até se chegar à criação do Curso Bacharelado em de Mídias Digitais, da Universidade Federal do Sul da Bahia (UFSB), no Centro de Formação em Desenvolvimento Territorial (CFDT) do Campus Paulo Freire (CPF). É, mais que tudo, um conjunto de reflexões de quem tem 28 anos de experiência na docência superior em cursos de Graduação e Pós-graduação e se preocupa com os rumos que o ensino de Comunicação, especificamente de jornalismo, tomaram, nos últimos anos.

Objective: To apprehend the collective discourse of men who attend gym training centers on corporeality, masculinities and health care. Method: Descriptive, qualitative study, conducted with 50 men practicing weight training and Cross Training in 10 private gyms in a municipality in Bahia, Brazil, between August and October 2017. The data were analyzed using the Collective Subject Discourse method and interpreted in the light of the theoretical references of corporeality and masculinities. Results: The relationship between corporeality, masculinities and health care are structured to achieve body satisfaction that is closely linked to the social imagery of the athletic and aesthetically balanced body; under the inspiration of famous athletes. There is a male mobilization to carry out body transformations of investment in aesthetics and body image, influenced by the practice of bodybuilding and / or Cross Training, which also mobilize the practice of body and aesthetic health care. Conclusion: There is an expressive male concentration of the culture of the athletic body, influenced by the practice of weight training and Cross Training, which make them capable of maintaining activities of daily living such as work, improvement of physical performance, control of diseases and health problems. and the reach and / or maintenance of well-being and quality of life.

Objetivo: Apreender o discurso coletivo de homens frequentadores de academias de musculação sobre a corporeidade, as masculinidades e o cuidado à saúde. Método: Estudo descritivo, qualitativo, realizado com 50 homens praticantes de musculação e Cross Training em 10 academias privadas em um município da Bahia, Brasil, entre os meses agosto a outubro de 2017. Os dados foram analisados sob o método do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo e interpretados à luz dos referenciais teóricos de corporeidade e masculinidades. Resultados: A relação entre a corporeidade, as masculinidades e os cuidados de saúde estão estruturadas no alcance da satisfação corporal que está intimamente ligada ao imaginário social do corpo atlético e esteticamente equilibrado; sob a inspieração de atletas famosos. Há mobilização masculina para realizar transformações corporais de investimento na estética e imagem corporal, influenciada pela prática da musculação e/ou do Cross Training, que também mobilizam a prática de cuidados de saúde corporais e estéticas. Conclusão: Há expressiva concentração masculina da cultura do corpo atlético, influenciado pela prática da musculação e do Cross Training, que os tornam capazes de manter as atividades da vida diária como o trabalho, melhoria do desempenho físico, do controle de doenças e agravos em saúde e do alcance e/ou manutenção do bem-estar e da qualidade de vida. RESUMO Objetivo: Compreender os sentidos e significados atribuídos por homens ao período vivido na pandemia da Covid-19. Método: Estudo qualitativo estruturado nos conceitos da fenomenologia, embasada na interpretação ôntica heideggeriana, realizado com 400 homens residentes no Brasil. A produção de dados foi por meio de um formulário disponibilizado online. As respostas foram processadas no software NVIVO12 e analisadas segundo o discurso do sujeito coletivo. Resultados: Emergiram duas unidades de significados analíticos acomodados em discursos-sínteses, sustentadas por ideias centrais, ordenadas em cinco subunidades que representam a coletividade do fenômeno investigado, quais sejam: Ser e estar no mundo no contexto da pandemia vivenciando suas possibilidades e O vigor de ter sido e a atualidade se apresentam como possibilidades de um novo “porvir” para além da pandemia. Conclusão: Os sentidos e significados revelaram um estar no contexto da pandemia a partir deles próprios com modificações da rotina, dos sentimentos e do abrir-se à novas possibilidades e transformações, o que gerou impactos psicossociais e estratégias de enfrentamento e cuidado no período do processo pandêmico. Como implicações, há que se ter uma nova compreensão do ser-homem, pois demonstrou precisar de cuidado, o qual está para além do físico. Método: Es un estudio cualitativo estructurado a partir de los conceptos de la fenomenología, basado en la interpretación óntica heideggeriana, realizado con 400 hombres residentes en Brasil. La producción de datos se realizó con un formulario disponible en línea. Las respuestas se procesaron en el programa informático NVIVO12 y se analizaron según el discurso del sujeto colectivo. Resultados: Surgieron dos unidades de significados analíticos acomodados en síntesis discursivas, apoyadas en ideas centrales, organizadas en cinco subunidades que representan la colectividad del fenómeno investigado, a saber: Ser y estar en el mundo en el contexto de la pandemia, experimentando sus posibilidades y El vigor de haber sido y la actualidad se presentan como posibilidades de un nuevo “porvenir” más allá de la pandemia. Conclusión: Los sentidos y significados revelaron un estar en el contexto de la pandemia a partir de ellos mismos con modificaciones de la rutina, de los sentimientos y la apertura a nuevas posibilidades y transformaciones, lo que generó impactos psicosociales y estrategias de afrontamiento y cuidado en el período del proceso pandémico. Como implicaciones, es necesario entender al ser-hombre desde una nueva perspectiva, ya que ha quedado demostrado que necesita cuidados más allá de lo físico. Objective: to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic mobilizes masculinities in relation to mental health. Methods: qualitative study conducted with 400 men, in a virtual environment, in all regions of Brazil. The data were analyzed by the Discourse of the Collective Subject and based on Symbolic Interactionism. Results: the mobilization of masculinities emerged from men towards the recognition of weaknesses and psycho-emotional vulnerabilities, with narratives that reveal the expression of feelings, pain, discomfort and psychological suffering, and showed themselves to be sensitive and engaged in performing practices, including autonomous ones, of health care mental. Final considerations: the pandemic mobilizes masculinities as men print meanings and senses, in their interaction and interpretation of mental health, and is a marker for the nursing clinic conduct. RESUMEN Objetivo: comprender cómo la pandemia COVID-19 moviliza masculinidades en relación a la salud mental. Métodos: estudio cualitativo realizado con 400 hombres, en un ambiente virtual, en todas las regiones de Brasil. Los datos fueron analizados por el Discurso del Sujeto Colectivo y basados en el Interaccionismo Simbólico. Resultados: surgió la movilización de masculinidades desde los hombres hacia el reconocimiento de las debilidades y vulnerabilidades psicoemocionales, con narrativas que revelan la expresión de sentimientos, dolores, malestares y sufrimiento psicológico, y demostraron ser sensibles y comprometidos en prácticas de realización, incluyendo el cuidado autónomo. en salud mental. Consideraciones finales: la pandemia moviliza masculinidades en la medida en que los hombres imprimen sentidos y significados, en su interacción e interpretación de la salud mental, y es un marcador para la conducción de la clínica de enfermería. Métodos: estudo qualitativo realizado com 400 homens, em ambiente virtual, em todas as regiões do Brasil. Resultados: a mobilização das masculinidades emergiu dos homens em direção ao reconhecimento de fragilidades e vulnerabilidades psicoemocionais, com narrativas que revelam a expressão de sentimentos, dores, desconfortos e sofrimento psíquico, e se mostraram sensíveis e engajados a desempenharem práticas, inclusive autônomas, de cuidado em saúde mental. Considerações finais: a pandemia mobiliza as masculinidades na medida em que os homens imprimem sentidos e significados, em sua interação e interpretação à saúde mental, e é um marcador para a condução da clínica em enfermagem.

Our goal was to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of substantia nigra fractional anisotropy (SN-FA) for Parkinson’s disease (PD) diagnosis in a sample similar to the clinical setting, including patients with essential tremor (ET) and healthy controls (HC). We also performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate mean change in SN-FA induced by PD and its diagnostic accuracy. Our sample consisted of 135 subjects: 72 PD, 21 ET and 42 HC. To address inter-scanner variability, two 3.0-T MRI scans were performed. MRI results of this sample were pooled into a meta-analysis that included 1,432 subjects (806 PD and 626 HC). A bivariate model was used to evaluate diagnostic accuracy measures. In our sample, we did not observe a significant effect of disease on SN-FA and it was uninformative for diagnosis. The results of the meta-analysis estimated a 0.03 decrease in mean SN-FA in PD relative to HC (CI: 0.01–0.05). However, the discriminatory capability of SN-FA to diagnose PD was low: pooled sensitivity and specificity were 72 % (CI: 68–75) and 63 % (CI: 58–70), respectively. There was high heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 91.9 %). SN-FA cannot be used as an isolated measure to diagnose PD. • SN-FA appears insufficiently sensitive and specific to diagnose PD. • Radiologists must be careful when translating mean group results to clinical practice. • Imaging protocol and analysis standardization is necessary for developing reproducible quantitative biomarkers.

Metamemory measures provide subjective memory information and are relevant to investigate memory ability in aging. However, there is a lack of metamemory instruments available in Brazil.The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Multifactorial Memory Questionnaire (MMQ), which evaluates different dimensions of subjective memory functioning, such as Feelings, Abilities and Strategies used in everyday life.The MMQ was translated into Portuguese and administered to 30 Brazilian elderly subjects. The participants underwent cognitive tests, mood scales and metamemory instruments.Analyses revealed good internal consistency (Cronbach's a coefficient ranged from 0.75 to 0.89) and test-retest validity for each MMQ dimensions (positive correlations between two applications ranged from 0.75 to 0.8). Convergent validity evidence for the MMQ was confirmed by significant positive correlations (0.47 to 0.68) with dimensions of the Metamemory in Adulthood scale (MIA) (i.e., the Ability, Control, Self-efficacy and Strategy dimensions). Discriminant validity revealed no associations between the MMQ and cognitive performance, suggesting a weak metamemory-objective memory correspondence. Moreover, there was a negative correlation between MMQ-Ability subscale scores and mood symptoms (-0.63 for anxious symptoms, and -0.54 for depressive symptoms); and the Brazilian MMQ was comparable with MMQ translations to other languages.The Brazilian MMQ exhibits good psychometric properties and appears promising for clinical and research purposes. Additional studies are needed to further examine the psychometric properties of the Brazilian MMQ in a larger sample.Medidas de metamemória fornecem informações acerca da memória subjetiva e são relevantes para se compreender a habilidade de memória no envelhecimento. Todavia, há uma falta de instrumentos de metamemória disponíveis no Brasil.O presente trabalho teve como objetivo examinar as propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira do Questionário Multifatorial de Memória (MMQ), que avalia diferentes aspectos da memória subjetiva, como Sentimentos, Habilidade e Estratégias usadas na vida diária.O MMQ foi traduzido para o Português e administrado em 30 idosos brasileiros. Os participantes realizaram testes cognitivos, escalas de humor e questionários de metamemória.Análises revelaram boa consistência interna (coeficiente a de Cronbach's variou de 0.75 a 0.89) e validade teste-reteste para cada dimensão do MMQ (correlações positivas entre as duas aplicações variou de 0.75 a 0.8). Validade convergente do MMQ foi identificada através de correlações positivas (0.47 a 0.68) com as dimensões doO MMQ Brasileiro apresenta boas propriedades psicométricas e parece ser promissor para o uso clínico e de pesquisa. Estudos adicionais são necessários para investigar caracteristicas psicométricas do MMQ Brasileiro em uma amostra maior.

One of the major challenges facing psychiatry is how to incorporate biological measures in the classification of mental health disorders. Many of these disorders affect brain development and its connectivity. In this study, we propose a novel method for assessing brain networks based on the combination of a graph theory measure (eigenvector centrality) and a one-class support vector machine (OC-SVM).We applied this approach to resting-state fMRI data from 622 children and adolescents. Eigenvector centrality (EVC) of nodes from positive- and negative-task networks were extracted from each subject and used as input to an OC-SVM to label individual brain networks as typical or atypical. We hypothesised that classification of these subjects regarding the pattern of brain connectivity would predict the level of psychopathology.Subjects with atypical brain network organisation had higher levels of psychopathology (p 0.001). There was a greater EVC in the typical group at the bilateral posterior cingulate and bilateral posterior temporal cortices; and significant decreases in EVC at left temporal pole.The combination of graph theory methods and an OC-SVM is a promising method to characterise neurodevelopment, and may be useful to understand the deviations leading to mental disorders.

Saccades were assessed in 21 adults (age 24 years, SD = 4) and 15 children (age 11 years, SD = 1), using combined functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and eye-tracking. Subjects visually tracked a point on a horizontal line in four conditions: time and position predictable task (PRED), position predictable (pPRED), time predictable (tPRED) and visually guided saccades (SAC). Both groups in the PRED but not in pPRED, tPRED and SAC produced predictive saccades with latency below 80 ms. In task versus group comparisons, children's showed less efficient learning compared to adults for predictive saccades (adults = 48%, children = 34%, p = 0.05). In adults brain activation was found in the frontal and occipital regions in the PRED, in the intraparietal sulcus in pPRED and in the frontal eye field, posterior intraparietal sulcus and medial regions in the tPRED task. Group-task interaction was found in the supplementary eye field and visual cortex in the PRED task, and the frontal cortex including the right frontal eye field and left frontal pole, in the pPRED condition. These results indicate that, the basic visuomotor circuitry is present in both adults and children, but fine-tuning of the activation according to the task temporal and spatial demand mature late in child development.

Drowning is a serious and frequently neglected public health threat. Primary respiratory impairment after submersion often leads to brain dysfunction. Depending on the period of global hypoxia (respiratory failure), clinical aspects of neurological dysfunction are evident on the first evaluation after the water rescue. Nowadays, many neuropsychological assessments after drowning are inconclusive, with some studies reporting only minor neurological or cognitive impairments. The aim of this study is to identify measures in neuropsychological tests that most contribute to classify volunteers as moderate drowning subjects or healthy controls. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first neuropsychological prospective case-control study of moderate drowning in a country with large coastal cities.Fifteen moderate drowning patients (DP), who met the inclusion criteria, were compared with 18 healthy controls (HC). All subjects were assessed on memory, learning, visual spatial ability, executive function, attention, and general intellectual functioning and underwent structural magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the brain at 3.0 T, in order to exclude subjects with anatomic abnormalities.Neuropsychological tests assessing learning, execution function, and verbal fluency-Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) general learning ability, Digit Span total, Phonological Verbal Fluency (total FAS correct), and Brief Visuospatial Memory Test Revised (BVMT) correct recognition-have the strongest discriminating ability, using predictive models via the partial least squares (PLS) approach for data classification, while the other tests have shown similar predictive values between groups.Learning, execution function, and verbal fluency domains were the most critically affected domains. Serious impairments in the same domains have already been reported in severe drowning cases, and we hypothesize that subtle alterations found in moderate drowning cases, although not sufficient to be detected in daily routine, may possibly have a negative impact on cognitive reserve.

Os jornais populares do Brasil utilizam diversos recursos para conseguir atrair um público fiel e interessado em suas publicações. Em Manaus, no jornal Dez Minutos a ideia é explorar o corpo feminino como objetos sexuais para conseguir mais leitores. Neste artigo, apresentamos apontamentos que demonstram essa realidade, a partir da analise de dez fotografias presentes nas capas do jornal. A pesquisa é embasada na teoria corpomídia de Katz; Greiner (2005) e nos estudos de Santaella (2001).

Esta tese apresenta um novo método para analisar dados de ressonância magnética funcional (FMRI) durante o estado de repouso denominado Análise de Componentes Esparsos Locais (LSCA). A LSCA é uma especialização da Análise de Componentes Esparsos (SCA) que leva em consideração a informação espacial dos dados para reconstruir a informação temporal de fontes bem localizadas, ou seja, fontes que representam a atividade de regiões corticais conectadas. Este estudo contém dados de simulação e dados reais. Os dados simulados foram preparados para avaliar a LSCA em diferentes cenários. Em um primeiro cenário, a LSCA é comparada com a Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA) em relação a capacidade de detectar fontes locais sob ruído branco e gaussiano. Em seguida, a LSCA é comparada com o algoritmo de Maximização da Expectativa (EM) no quesito detecção de fontes dinâmicas locais. Os dados reais foram coletados para fins comparativos e ilustrativos. Imagens de FMRI de onze voluntários sadios foram adquiridas utilizando um equipamento de ressonância magnética de 3T durante um protocolo de estado de repouso. As imagens foram pré-processadas e analisadas por dois métodos: a LSCA e a Análise de Componentes Independentes (ICA). Os componentes identificados pela LSCA foram comparados com componentes comumente reportados na literatura utilizando a ICA. Além da comparação direta com a ICA, a LSCA foi aplicada com o propósito único de caracterizar a dinâmica das redes de estado de repouso. Resultados simulados mostram que a LSCA é apropriada para identificar fontes esparsas locais. Em dados de FMRI no estado de repouso, a LSCA é capaz de identificar as mesmas fontes que são identificadas pela ICA, permitindo uma análise mais detalhada das relações entre regiões dentro de e entre componentes e sugerindo que muitos componentes identificados pela ICA em FMRI durante o estado de repouso representam um conjunto de componentes esparsos locais. Utilizando a LSCA, grande parte das fontes identificadas pela ICA podem ser decompostas em um conjunto de fontes esparsas locais que não são necessariamente independentes entre si. Além disso, as fontes identificadas pela LSCA aproximam muito melhor o sinal temporal observado nas regiões representadas por seus componentes do que as fontes identificadas pela ICA. Finalmente, uma análise mais elaborada utilizando a LSCA permite estimar também relações dinâmicas entre os componentes previamente identificados. Assim, a LSCA permite identificar relações clássicas bem como relações causais entre componentes do estado de repouso. As principais implicações desse resultado são que diferentes premissas permitem decomposições aproximadamente equivalentes, entretanto, critérios menos restritivos tais como esparsidade e localização permitem construir modelos mais compactos e biologicamente mais plausíveis. This thesis presents Local Sparse Component Analysis (LSCA), a new method for analyzing resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) datasets. LSCA, a extension of Sparse Component Analysis (SCA), takes into account data spatial information to reconstruct temporal sources representing connected regions of significant activity. This study contains simulation data and real data. The simulated data were prepared to evaluate the LSCA in different scenarios. In the first scenario, the LSCA is compared with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for detecting local sources under Gaussian white noise. Then, LSCA is compared with the expectation maximization algorithm (EM) for detecting the dynamics of local sources. Real data were collected for comparative and illustrative purposes. FMRI images from eleven healthy volunteers were acquired using a 3T MRI scanner during a resting state protocol. Images were preprocessed and analyzed using LSCA and Independent Components Analysis (ICA). LSCA components were compared with commonly reported ICA components. In addition, LSCA was applied for characterizing the dynamics of resting state networks. Simulated results have shown that LSCA is suitable for identifying local sparse sources.For real resting state FMRI data, LSCA is able to identify the same sources that are identified using ICA, allowing detailed functional connectivity analysis of the identified regions within and between components. This suggests that ICA resting state networks can be further decomposed into local sparse components that are not necessarily independent from each other. Moreover, LSCA sources better represent local FMRI signal oscillations than ISCA sources. Finally, brain connectivity analysis shows that LSCA can identify both instantaneous and causal relationships between resting state components. The main implication of this study is that independence and sparsity are equivalent assumptions in resting state FMRI. However, less restrictive criteria such as sparsity and source localization allow building much more compact and biologically plausible brain connectivity models.

Purpose To assess the reproducibility of brain-activation and eye-movement patterns in a saccade paradigm when comparing subjects, tasks, and magnetic resonance (MR) systems. Materials and Methods Forty-five healthy adults at two different sites (n = 45) performed saccade tasks with varying levels of target predictability: predictable (PRED), position predictable (pPRED), time predictable (tPRED), and prosaccade (SAC). Eye-movement pattern was tested with a repeated-measures analysis of variance. Este artigo foi publicado inicialmente no livro Jornalismo para dispositivos móveis: produção, distribuição e consumo, organizado por João Canavilhas e Ivan Satuf, em Portugal, pela Livros Labcom Books, em 2015, sob o título “Ecossistemas comunicacionais: os dispositivos móveis como extensão do corpo humano”. O que em Portugal se chama “dispositivos móveis”, em Manaus, no Grupo de Pesquisa em Ciências da Comunicação, Informação, Design e Artes (Interfaces) denominamos Mídias Digitais. Utilizamos os ecossistemas comunicacionais, conceito surgido a partir dos “ecossistemas comunicativos”, resultados de um processo enativo de evolução das teorias, que reforça a minha tese de que tecnologias, por mais modernas que as sejam, resultam de processos enativos, e são, portanto, extensões do corpo. E, mais ainda: extensões do corpo para garantir a sobrevivência. Natural fibers represent an economic and environmental motivation for replacing the synthetic fibers, mainly as composite reinforcement material, which is one of their major applications. Some advantages of the natural fibers are the biodegradability, low cost and renewability. Among the natural fibers, the lignocellulosic ones are highlighted for their high resistance. One of the most cultivated lignocellulosic fibers in Brazil is the Eucalyptus fiber, extracted from the bark of Eucalyptus citriodora plant. In this work, it was investigated the tensile behavior of the epoxy matrix composites reinforced with different volume fractions of Eucalyptus fibers. The specimens were made by pouring the still liquid resin into the mold and laying the fibers onto the resin. The results show a decrease in the tensile resistance with the increase of volume fraction. It is due to the low adhesion between the fibers and the matrix.
