This paper addresses the issue of corporate greenwashing and its impact on consumer behavior, specifically in the context of circular food and beverage packaging. We conducted a survey with 537 participants and utilized Structural Equation Modeling to analyze the relationships between company motives, consumer attributions, perceptions of greenwashing, and wishcycling behavior. Additionally, we explored the moderating effect of core self‐evaluation on the relationship between circular packaging and greenwashing techniques. Our findings highlight the mediating role of consumer perceptions of company motives in the relationship between corporate greenwashing and wishcycling. We also found that consumer personality traits, particularly core self‐evaluation, moderate the relationship between circular packaging and perceptions of greenwashing. These results emphasize the importance of understanding consumer behavior and perceptions in circular environments and policy domains. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and researchers seeking to promote sustainable consumption and mitigate environmental harm in the transition toward a more circular economy. High phenotypic diversity should provide populations with resilience to environmental change by increasing their capacity to respond to changing conditions. The aim of this study was to identify whether there is consistency in individual behaviours on a reactive-proactive axis in European barbel Barbus barbus ("barbel"), a riverine and aggregatory fish that expresses individual differences in its behaviours in nature. This was tested using three sequential experiments in ex-situ conditions that required individuals to leave a shelter and then explore new habitats ('open-field test'), respond to social stimuli ('mirror-image stimulation test') and forage ('foraging behaviour test'; assessing exploratory traits). Each suite of experiments was replicated three times per individual (46 hours minimum time between replicates). There was high variability in behaviours both within and among individuals. The most repeatable behaviours were latency to exit the shelter, active time in the shelter, and the number of food items consumed. Principal component scores did, however, indicate a range of consistent behavioural phenotypes across the individuals, distributing them along a reactive-proactive axis in which most of individuals were more reactive phenotypes (shyer, less exploratory, less social). These results suggest that within controlled conditions, there is considerable phenotypic diversity among individuals in their behaviours, suggesting their populations will have some adaptive capacity to environmental change. Species–environment relationships are often studied at large spatial scales, but effective conservation requires an understanding of local-scale environmental drivers and pressures. Widespread degradation and fragmentation of forests have increased the proportion of tropical mammal habitat that is affected by edge effects. Edge effects include greater exposure to anthropogenic disturbance and abiotic changes that synergistically influence how well populations can cope with climate change. We investigated relationships between distance to the forest edge, forest structure, microclimate and terrestrial mammal detections in a selectively logged forest at the boundary of Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia. We collected mammal detection data from motion-activated camera traps, microclimate data from automated climate data loggers and forest structure data from vegetation plots. Daily mean and maximum temperatures significantly decreased with distance from the forest edge, whereas tree height and minimum temperature increased. Mammal diversity was lower at the forest edge compared to the interior. Mammals were detected less frequently at the forest edge, although this relationship varied between mammal orders. Mammal detections were best explained by temperature, tree height and tree diameter at breast height. These results demonstrate that abiotic changes in forests brought on by edge effects have negative impacts on mammals, but these effects vary between mammal taxa because of differing sensitivities to human disturbance. Our findings highlight the importance of considering local-scale environmental drivers in determining species–environment relationships to identify key habitat features such as microclimate refuges that should be prioritized in ecosystem management. Behavioural thermoregulation enables ectotherms to access habitats providing conditions within their temperature optima, especially in periods of extreme thermal conditions, through adjustments to their behaviours that provide a "whole‐body" response to temperature changes. Although freshwater fish have been detected as moving in response to temperature changes to access habitats that provide their thermal optima, there is a lack of integrative studies synthesising the extent to which this is driven by behaviour across different species and spatial scales. A quantitative global synthesis of behavioural thermoregulation in freshwater fish revealed that across 77 studies, behavioural thermoregulatory movements by fish were detected both vertically and horizontally, and from warm to cool waters and, occasionally, the converse. When fish moved from warm to cooler habitats, the extent of the temperature difference between these habitats decreased with increasing latitude, with juvenile and non‐migratory fishes tolerating greater temperature differences than adult and anadromous individuals. With most studies focused on assessing movements of cold‐water salmonids during summer periods, there remains an outstanding need for work on climatically vulnerable, non‐salmonid fishes to understand how these innate thermoregulatory behaviours could facilitate population persistence in warming conditions. Populations of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar have experienced precipitous declines in abundance since the 1970s. This decline has been associated with reduced numbers of adult salmon returning to fresh water from their marine migration, i.e., their marine return rates (MRR). Thus, understanding the factors that affect MRR is of crucial conservation importance. The authors used a state‐space model with a 13‐year time series of individually tagged salmon mark‐recapture histories on the River Frome, southern England, to test the effect of smolt body length on their MRR. In addition to smolt length, the model tested for the influence of environmental covariates that were representative of the conditions experienced by the smolts in the early stages of their seaward migration, i.e., from the lower river to the estuary exit. The model indicated that, even when accounting for environmental covariates, smolt body length was an important predictor of MRR. Although larger smolts have a higher probability of returning to their natal river as adults than smaller smolts, and one‐sea‐winter salmon have a survival rate twice as high as multi‐sea‐winter salmon, the actual biological mechanisms underpinning this phenomenon remain uncertain. These results have important applications for salmon conservation, as efforts to bolster salmon populations in the freshwater environment should consider methods to improve smolt quality (i.e., body size) as well as smolt quantity. Aim: The relationships between species and their landscape are important for understanding migration patterns. In fluvial systems, the complexity of the river network can strongly influence the dispersal and colonization rates of invading alien fishes, but habitat quality, species' biological traits and their location of introduction are also potentially important. However, understandings of how these factors interact in the wild to influence the spatial distribution of invasive species over time are limited from empirical studies. Location: "Virtual" and "real‐world" rivers from England and Wales. Method: We developed an individual‐based model (IBM) to predict how these different factors influenced the invasion dynamics and population growth rates (as abundances) of nine "virtual" alien fishes over two timeframes (10 and 30 years). The alien fishes differed in their demographic (r‐ to K‐selected) and dispersal (fast to slow) characteristics and the rivers in their network complexity. Results: Irrespective of river type, species and timeframe, the main drivers of both dispersal and population growth were the location of the introduction and the mean habitat quality of the patch into which the species were released. The introduction location determined whether dispersal was mainly passive in a downstream direction (faster) or active in an upstream direction (slower), with higher habitat quality then enabling faster population growth rates. Over 30 years, invasion rates were predicted to increase as the complexity of the river network increased, as this opened multiple invasion fronts where the invader traits favoured faster dispersal. Main conclusions: This novel IBM revealed how the complexity of the physical environment interacts with the biological traits of alien species to influence invasion outcomes, with the location of the introduction and its habitat quality being the most important factors. These results thus substantially increase understanding of the factors that influence the dispersal and colonization rates of alien freshwater fishes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
