Introduction: Pancreatic cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death. The overall survival is short even in the small proportion of patients who are eligible for surgical resection. The aims of our study were to assess the value of preoperative CT scan in the prediction of the surgical margin status and to identify imaging characteristics that predict the survival of patients with resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Methods: Our study included 62 patients with histologically confirmed pancreatic adenocarcinoma, who underwent surgery between 1st January 2010 and 30th June 2019. Medical records and preoperative CT images were reviewed in order to collect clinical and imaging data. Data was analyzed with the Qui-squared test and with binary logistic regression. Kaplan-Meier estimates, Log-Rank test, and the multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression were used for the survival analysis. Results: From the 62 patients who underwent surgery, negative surgical margins were achieved in 35 of them and 27 patients had positive surgical margins. In multivariate analysis, vascular involvement was a predictor of positive surgical margins. The mean survival was 789 days, being significantly different between the two groups of surgical margins. In survival analysis, tumor density on CT (HR=0,985, p-value=0,035) and imaging signs of extra-pancreatic perineural involvement (HR=2,324, p-value=0,048) were identified as predictors. Conclusion: Preoperative CT is a useful tool to predict positive surgical margins and survival. It helps to identify patients with resectable tumors but worse prognosis who can benefit from different therapeutical strategies. This paper presents the research and development of a redesign of Bem-me-ker – an application of the Portuguese Oncology Institute (IPO) of Porto. For this project, we resorted to a user-centric methodology featuring a survey of the current market and the context of the digital health industry, interviews and usability tests with patients, caregivers and stakeholders. Such user-centric methodology proved to be efficient in responding to their needs, with satisfactory results. Its contributions are focused on the incorporation of the concept of patient navigation into the design of an onboarding application, transforming it into a virtual manager of the disease for cancer patients, and with the ultimate goal to improve their wellbeing and quality-of-life. We see that this approach is also capable of being adjusted to the needs of other institutions and patients, thus contributing to the improvement of the national health service, providing digitally optimized information to citizens.

Clinical History: A 58-year-old woman presented to the emergency department complaining of 12h onset crampy pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting, with no fever. A plataforma Algorithmic Science News (ASN) é uma nova ferramenta criada por uma equipa multidisciplinar que surgiu da necessidade de reinscrever o papel das notícias sobre ciência no espaço mediático presente. A plataforma tem como objetivo aumentar o número de notícias científicas disponíveis para os editores e reduzir o esforço associado a tarefas mais demoradas como a recolha de dados e análise de artigos científicos, facilitando todo o processo de produção de notícias. A plataforma ASN agrega um conjunto de funcionalidades destinadas a apoiar o trabalho habitual de um jornalista em contextos redatoriais, permitindo a utilização de documentos em repositórios científicos de acesso aberto. O desenvolvimento de algoritmos que trabalham sobre estes repositórios seguiu o propósito de facilitar o acesso e a exploração destas coleções e permitir que os órgãos de comunicação as utilizem como fonte informativa. Neste projeto desenvolveram-se ferramentas de leitura e interpretação, escrita e sugestão semântica. No que concerne à leitura e interpretação, o ASN permite encontrar especialistas relacionados com o artigo científico, resumir as partes mais determinantes, nomeadamente a introdução, objetivos, metodologias e resultados, apresentar definições de termos técnicos e sugerir projetos relacionados com o tema. No que diz respeito à parte de escrita, a plataforma permite escrever notas relacionadas com partes do artigo e ter acesso a sugestões de frases. A utilização de uma versão beta desta plataforma em contextos redatoriais permitirá perceber até que ponto a automação de tarefas associadas à produção jornalística poderá ajudar os meios de comunicação em transição para o digital, assim como contribuir para uma maior eficiência nas tarefas associadas ao jornalismo de ciência, permitindo uma maior massificação e qualidade na produção de notícias científicas no panorama mediático atual. The Algorithmic Science News (ASN) platform is a new tool created by a multidisciplinary team that emerged from the need to reinscribe the role of science news in today's media space. The platform aims not only to increase the number of scientific news available to publishers, but also to reduce the effort associated with more time-consuming tasks such as collecting data and analyzing scientific articles and thereby facilitating the entire news production process. The ASN platform includes a set of features designed to support the journalist's standard procedure in writing contexts, allowing the use of documents in open access scientific repositories. The development of algorithms working on these repositories followed the purpose of facilitating the access and exploration of these collections and allowing the media to use them as an information source. In this project, we developed tools of reading and interpretation, writing and semantic suggestion. With regard to reading and interpretation, ASN helps on finding specialists related to the scientific article, summarizes the most determinant parts, namely the introduction, objectives, methodologies and results, present definitions of technical terms, and suggest projects related to the topic. With regard to the writing part, the platform allows to write notes related to parts of the article and have access to phrases suggestions. The use of a beta version of this platform in writing contexts will allow the realization of the extent to which the automation of tasks associated with journalistic production can help the media in transition to digital, as well as to contribute to a greater efficiency in the tasks associated with science journalism, allowing a greater massification and quality in the production of scientific news in the current media landscape.

Mestrado em Design, Materiais e Gestão de Produto O presente trabalho propõe-se a reflectir sobre a recriação do imaginário e expectativas do ser humano na Arte Digital. Importantes linhas de acção da contemporaneidade artística - a reflexão teórica sobre o tempo e a sua relação com o espaço; a criação de ambientes plasticamente complexos; a participação directa do público; a novidade, intimidade, instantaneadade, envolvimento; e o sentido de tempo presente – são actualmente exploradas pelo meio tecnológico que possibilita a criação de ambientes, importando reflectir sobre novas formas de pensar linguagens de mediação capazes de redimensionar, sensorial e emotivamente, as experiências do ser humano. The present work proposes a reflection about the recreation of the imaginary and the expectations of the human being in the Digital Art. Important lines of action of the contemporary art – the teoric reflection on the time and its relation with space; the creation of plastical complex environments; the direct participation of the audience; the novelty, the intimacy, instantaneous, involvement; and the sense of present time – are actually exploited by the tecnologic medium that makes possible the creation of environments, being of great importance to reflect over new ways of thinking mediation languages that are capable of redimentionating, both sensory and emotionally, the human being experiences.

According to article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), States Parties must ensure that persons with disabilities are able to access tertiary education, vocational training, adult education and lifelong learning without discrimination and on an equal basis with others. To this end, the Convention sets forth the obligations of the States Parties to ensure that, among other things, the persons with disabilities receive the support required and reasonable accommodation is provided. The objective of this project is to develop a new tool to encourage the inclusion of persons with disabilities in higher education; promote their inclusion in the university community supporting both faculty and administrative staff in order to respond to diversity; promote the international mobility among students with disabilities and raise awareness within the university community regarding accessibility and social inclusion of young persons with disabilities.

Tese de Doutoramento em Design, apresentada na Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa para obtenção do grau de Doutor. A construção de um arquivo, elemento estruturante e declarado de organização de informação, implica a consciência dos processos atuais de gestão de dados. A gestão dessa informação liga-se à potencialidade de interpretar e ler informações que de outro modo são indecifráveis ou que permanecem invisíveis. O design de informação e nomeadamente a visualização de informação são terreno fértil para a conceptualização, criação e origem de novas formas de organização visual. Nesse contexto, estudámos, observámos e inferimos sobre como pode ser um modelo de implementação de novos arquivos – arquivos visuais digitais. Com este estudo, procuramos analisar o que está por detrás dos modelos de arquivos digitais. Tem por objectivo analisar questões de percepção, cultura e léxico visuais, fornecendo linhas orientadoras para a criação e construção de arquivos visuais digitais, no contexto dos jornais digitais online. A metodologia adoptada, com recurso a revisão literária e técnicas como trabalho de experimentação laboratorial de um modelo, entrevistas e inquéritos, permitiu concluir que existem modelos visuais de organização de dados e que a visualização de informação pode caminhar para a criação de estruturas de arquivo visual digital mais amplas. Ao aplicar e adaptar conhecimentos desenvolvidos por diversos autores, constatámos que existe um território sistémico de potencialidade de organização visual. Conseguimos, desse modo, identificar elementos para um léxico visual, retirando considerações globais com características estruturantes para a área do design, e classificá-los à luz das necessidades do Jornal P3 e da sua organização. ABSTRACT: The building of an Archive, a structured and declared element of information, implies the awareness of existing data organization processes. The management of this information will connect with the capability to interpret and read information that are otherwise impervious. Design, archiving and image are fertile ground for the conceptualization, creation and origin of new visual media in information visualization. In this context, we study, observe and infer on how they can become an implementation model for new archives – visual digital archives. With this study, we seek to analyze what is behind the digital archive model. It aims to infer on perception, culture and visual lexicon issues, giving guidelines to the creation and construct of digital visual archives, in the context of online digital newspapers. The methodology, using literary review and technics such as experimental laboratorial work, interviews and surveys, allowed the conclusion that the- re are visual models of organizing data and that information visualization can set the creation of broader digital visual archives structures. By applying and adapting the knowledge developed by several authors, we found that there is a systemic territory of visual organization capability. We managed, thereby, to identify the elements for a visual lexicon, removing global considerations with structural features for the field of design, and classify them in the light of the needs of the P3 newspaper and its organization.
