In many homes worldwide, dogs are considered part of the family. Every possible care is given to animals, including drug treatments. However, many animal guardians, in an attempt to minimize pain or improve the quality of life of their dogs, provide drugs without a veterinarian's prescription. Diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that acts on cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2 enzymes, is associated with several adverse events, especially related to the gastrointestinal tract, both in humans and pet animals. Therefore, the availability of information about the effects of this drug in different species is always essential. This narrative review aims to present adverse reactions the domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) can suffer when exposed to diclofenac. Scientific publications, books, and case reports were consulted, and inquiries were also carried out with regulatory agencies. Many reports of suspected adverse reactions, especially related to the gastrointestinal tract, were found. Other clinical manifestations and lesions were also identified in the cardiovascular system, liver, kidneys, and hematological examinations. Therefore, diclofenac may constitute a hazard to dogs, mainly due to possible damage to the gastrointestinal tract. This fact reinforces the need to seek veterinary advice before providing any drug to animals, in addition to recommendations on ensuring the correct storage of medications to avoid accidental exposure. Sustainable ingredients in cosmetics have been discussed for the past decade, and the COVID-19 pandemic has increased awareness of this significant topic. Consumers are informed and vigilant about clean labels, driving the necessity for sustainability throughout the cosmetic production chain. Moreover, nanotechnology and green chemistry approaches have emerged as innovative perspectives to develop sustainable and eco-friendly cosmetic ingredients. In this sense, in this review, we present examples and applications of sustainable ingredients derived from several types of sources (i.e., plants, animals, microorganisms, cell cultures, and recycled materials/biomaterials). The benefits and drawbacks of all classes of compounds were organized and discussed in relation to novel formulations/products. Finally, we addressed perspectives on cosmetic ingredients that prioritize sustainability and safety, with an emphasis on exploring sustainable ingredients, compounds, or molecules as promising areas for research and development. Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and infectious illnesses, such as malaria, tuberculosis and Zika fever, represent a major public health concern in many countries and regions worldwide, especially in developing ones. They cause thousands of deaths per year, and certainly compromise the life of affected patients. The drugs available for therapy are toxic, have considerable adverse effects, and are obsolete, especially with respect to resistance. In this context, targeted peptides are considered promising in the design of new drugs, since they have specific action and reduced toxicity. Indeed, there is a rising interest in these targeted compounds within the pharmaceutical industry, proving their importance to the Pharmaceutical Sciences field. Many have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used as medicines, plus there are more than 300 peptides currently in clinical trials. The main purpose of this review is to show the most promising potential targeted peptides acting as hits molecules in NTDs and other infectious illnesses. Molecular modelling methods were previously applied to obtain information regarding the disassembly of the first generation quercetin-targeted dendrimers potentially leishmanicide. Dendrimers containing one to three branches were designed, and their three-dimensional molecular models were built up. They were constituted bymyo-inositol (core and directing group),d-mannose (directing group),l-malic acid (spacer) and quercetin (bioactive agent). Physicochemical properties, such as spatial hindrance, electrostatic potential mapping and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy, were evaluated. Hence, the main purpose of this study was to identify which carbonyl group was the most vulnerable to undergo chemical or enzymatic action. The carbonyl groups were named according to their positions in dendrimer systems as follows: C1, close to the core group; C2, near the directing group; C3in thel-malic acid; and, C4nearby the bioactive agent. C4seemed to be the most promising carbonyl group to suffer hydrolysis. However, regarding larger molecular systems, such as targeted dendrimers with three branches, C4carbonyl group is the most sterically hindered impairing any enzymatic approximation. Despite significant investment in the development of new anticancer compounds, there are still several limitations that can still be found. Many compounds exhibit high levels of toxicity and low bioavailability. Therefore, it is urgent to design safer, more effective, and particularly more selective compounds for oncological treatment. Dendrimers are polymeric structures that have been shown to be potential drug nanocarriers to overcome physicochemical, pharmacokinetic, and indirect pharmacodynamic issues. Due to their versatility, they can be used in the design of nanovaccines, lipophilic complexes, amphiphilic complexes, smart nanocomplexes, and others. This work targets the use of dendrimers in oncological treatment and their importance and effectiveness as drug delivery systems for the development of new therapies.
