Abstract

In the recent work at Notre Dame, correlations between three carbon isotope fusion systems have been studied and it is found that the fusion cross sections of 12C+13Cand 13C+13C provide an upper limit on the fusion cross section of the astrophysically important 12C+12C reaction.The aim of this work is to continue such research by measuring the fusion cross section of the 12C+13C reaction to lower energies. In this experiment, the off-line activity measurement was performed in the ultra-low background laboratory 12C+13C and the fusion cross section for has been determined in the energy range of Ec.m. =2.5–6.8 MeV. Comparison between this work and several models is also presented.

Abstract

The structure of 80Ge has been investigated at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. A previous study reported for the first time a low-lying 0+2 intruder state at 639 keV, based on the coincidence with a previously unobserved 1764-keV γ ray, and suggested it as evidence for shape coexistence in 80Ge. We used the β decay from the 3− 22.4-keV state in 80Ga to enhance the population of low-spin states in 80Ge, including any excited 0+ level, and γγ coincidences to investigate it. We observed a 1764-keV γ ray in coincidence with strong transitions in 80Ge, thus not feeding the proposed 639-keV 0+2. No connecting transitions from previously known levels to the 639-keV and 2403-keV 2+3 states could be established either. Shell-model calculations for Ge isotopes and N=48 isotones were performed. They succeed to explain most of the experimental levels, but fail to reproduce the presence of a 0+2 state below ≈1200 keV in 80Ge. Our experimental findings and shell-model calculations are difficult to reconcile with a very low-lying 0+2 state in 80Ge.

Abstract

International audience; Lifetimes of several short-lived excited states in Nd138 were measured with the ROSPHERE array at IFIN-HH, Bucharest, using the recoil-distance Doppler shift technique following the Sb123(F19,4n) reaction. The resulting electromagnetic transition probabilities are compared to large-scale shell model calculations and to constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with the Gogny D1S interaction, configuration mixing, and a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian formalism. The onset of collectivity in Nd isotopes below the N=82 shell closure and the deformation induced by the alignment of protons and neutron holes in the h11/2 orbitals are discussed.

Abstract

A search for shape isomers in the Ni66 nucleus was performed, following old suggestions of various mean-field models and recent ones, based on state-of-the-art Monte Carlo shell model (MCSM), all considering Ni66 as the lightest nuclear system with shape isomerism. By employing the two-neutron transfer reaction induced by an O18 beam on a Ni64 target, at the sub-Coulomb barrier energy of 39 MeV, all three lowest-excited 0+ states in Ni66 were populated and their γ decay was observed by γ-coincidence technique. The 0+ states lifetimes were assessed with the plunger method, yielding for the 02+, 03+, and 04+ decay to the 21+ state the B(E2) values of 4.3, 0.1, and 0.2 Weisskopf units (W.u.), respectively. MCSM calculations correctly predict the existence of all three excited 0+ states, pointing to the oblate, spherical, and prolate nature of the consecutive excitations. In addition, they account for the hindrance of the E2 decay from the prolate 04+ to the spherical 21+ state, although overestimating its value. This result makes Ni66 a unique nuclear system, apart from U236,238, in which a retarded γ transition from a 0+ deformed state to a spherical configuration is observed, resembling a shape-isomerlike behavior., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract

Learning how 19F is produced and destructed in AGB-stars is crucial. Fluorine abundance is in fact important, given that it is strongly tied to standard and extra-mixing processes taking place in AGB-stars. This kind of objects are considered to be the main sources of fluorine in galactic environment, in which experimental abundances are far overestimated. For this reason the reaction 19F(α, p)22Ne, that represents the main destruction channel in He-rich environment, was studied at energies corresponding to T~2·10^8 K.
