Objective: To determine variations in cord blood gas (CBG) parameters after 3-minute delayed cord clamping (DCC) in vaginal deliveries (VDs) and caesarean deliveries (CDs) at term without fetal distress.Design: Prospective observational study.Setting: University hospital.Sample: CBG from 97 VDs and 124 CDs without fetal distress.Methods: Comparison of paired arterial-venous CBG parameters drawn at birth from the unclamped cord and after 3-minutes DCC for VDs and CDs.Main Outcome Measures: Base excess, bicarbonate, haematocrit and haemoglobin from both arterial and venous cord blood, lactate, neonatal outcomes, partial pressure of oxygen (pO2 ), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2 ), pH, and postpartum haemorrhage.Results: Arterial cord blood pH, bicarbonate ( HCO3- , mmol/l), and base excess (BE, mmol/l) decreased significantly after 3-minute DCC both in VDs (pH = 7.23 versus 7.27; P < 0.001; HCO3-  = 23.3 versus 24.3; P = 0.004; BE = -5.1 versus -2.9; P < 0.001) and CDs (pH = 7.28 versus 7.34; P < 0.001; HCO3-  = 26.2 versus 27.2; P < 0.001; BE = -1.5 versus 0.7; P < 0.001). After 3-minute DCC, pCO2 increased in CDs only (57 versus 51; P < 0.001), whereas lactate increased more in CDs compared with VDs (lactate, +1.1 [0.9, 1.45] versus +0.5 [-0.65, 2.35]; P = 0.01). Postpartum maternal haemorrhage, neonatal maximum bilirubin concentration, and need for phototherapy were similar between the two groups. Newborns born by CD more frequently required postnatal clinical monitoring or admission to a neonatal intensive care unit.Conclusions: After 3-minute DCC, the acid-base status shifted towards mixed acidosis in CDs and prevalent metabolic acidosis in VDs. Objectives: To evaluate the experience of parenting a preterm infant from birth to adolescence and to raise awareness of the complexity of premature birth and the child's subsequent developmental journey for the entire family., Study Design: A phenomenological, qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions was adopted to obtain retrospective, in-depth narratives. Seven mothers of adolescents born preterm with extremely low birth weight (ELBW) and admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) participated in the study. Interviews were conducted by a trained researcher in qualitative methods, and independent coders performed data analysis., Results: Three phases and eight core themes, chronologically organized, emerged from the thematic analysis: starting from preterm birth (panic, fear and uncertainty; hope and a positive attitude to the future; altered parental role), transitioning to life after hospitalization (fatigue and worry about an uncertain future; need of support), and extending into adolescence (adolescents' fragility; overprotection; post-traumatic personal growth)., Conclusions: The birth of a preterm baby has significant repercussions for the entire family, not only in the period immediately following birth but also for many years afterwards, as the traumatic event is retraced with memories that remain both painful and vivid. Background: Thrombocytopenia, common in preterm newborns, may increase bleeding risk and is often treated with transfusions. Recent studies reveal that transfusing platelets at a high threshold worsens outcomes, possibly due to a "developmental mismatch" between adult-derived platelets and neonatal hemostatic system. Cord blood-derived platelet concentrates (CBPCs) could be an alternative for newborns. Our study aims to produce and evaluate the quality parameters of CBPCs during storage., Study Design and Methods: Cord blood was collected from placentas after near-term and full-term pregnancies. Several production methods were attempted to obtain CBPCs, varying centrifugation settings, filtration, and dilution procedures. Adult-derived platelet concentrates (PCs) processed with the same methods, and standard PCs from five buffy-coats were used as controls. Storage tests were performed on days 2, 4-5, 7 from the collection., Results: CBPCs parameters were compared with adult-derived PCs, and no significant differences were found for mean platelet volume (MPV), swirling, morphology, glucose, lactate, pCO 2 , and pO 2 . pH and bicarbonate were lower in CBPCs. Some significant differences between methods in CD62P expression and JC-1 ratio were observed. Compared with standard PCs, CBPCs showed lower platelet concentration, pH, and JC-1. Additionally, both in CBPCs as well as in control PCs, the apoptosis marker phosphatidylserine was elevated., Discussion: CBPCs were of comparable quality to control PCs during storage. However, apoptosis markers in both groups were elevated, suggesting processing and storage of low volumes of PCs require further optimization. Objectives: To survey practices of iron and recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEpo) administration to infants born preterm across Europe., Study Design: Over a 3-month period, we conducted an online survey in 597 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) of 18 European countries treating infants born with a gestational age of <32 weeks., Results: We included 343 NICUs (response rate 56.3%) in the survey. Almost all NICUs (97.7%) routinely supplement enteral iron, and 74.3% of respondents to all infants born <32 weeks of gestation. We found that 65.3% of NICUs routinely evaluate erythropoiesis and iron parameters beyond day 28 after birth. Most NICUs initiate iron supplementation at postnatal age of 2 weeks and stop after 6 months (34.3%) or 12 months (34.3%). Routine use of rhEpo was reported in 22.2% of NICUs, and in individual cases in 6.9%. RhEpo was mostly administered subcutaneously (70.1%) and most frequently at a dose of 250 U/kg 3 times a week (44.3%), but the dose varied greatly between centers., Conclusions: This survey highlights wide heterogeneity in evaluating erythropoietic activity and iron deficiency in infants born preterm. Variation in iron supplementation during infancy likely reflects an inadequate evidence base. Current evidence on the efficacy and safety profile of rhEpo is only poorly translated into clinical practice. Importance: Red blood cell (RBC) transfusions are frequently administered to preterm infants born before 32 weeks of gestation in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Two randomized clinical trials (Effects of Transfusion Thresholds on Neurocognitive Outcomes of Extremely Low-Birth-Weight Infants [ETTNO] and Transfusion of Prematures [TOP]) found that liberal RBC transfusion thresholds are nonsuperior to restrictive thresholds, but the extent to which these results have been integrated into clinical practice since publication in 2020 is unknown., Objective: To describe neonatal RBC transfusion practice in Europe., Design, Setting, and Participants: This international prospective observational cohort study collected data between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023, with a 6-week observation period per center, from 64 NICUs in 22 European countries. Participants included 1143 preterm infants born before 32 weeks of gestation., Exposure: Admission to the NICU., Main Outcomes and Measures: Study outcome measures included RBC transfusion prevalence rates, cumulative incidence, indications, pretransfusion hemoglobin (Hb) levels, volumes, and transfusion rates, Hb increment, and adverse effects of RBC transfusion., Results: A total of 1143 preterm infants were included (641 male [56.1%]; median gestational age at birth, 28 weeks plus 2 days [IQR, 26 weeks plus 2 days to 30 weeks plus 2 days]; median birth weight, 1030 [IQR, 780-1350] g), of whom 396 received 1 or more RBC transfusions, totaling 903 transfusions. Overall RBC transfusion prevalence rate during postnatal days 1 to 28 was 3.4 transfusion days per 100 admission days, with considerable variation across countries, only partly explained by patient mix. By day 28, 36.5% (95% CI, 31.6%-41.5%) of infants had received at least 1 transfusion. Most transfusions were given based on a defined Hb threshold (748 [82.8%]). Hemoglobin levels before transfusions indicated for threshold were below the restrictive thresholds set by ETTNO in 324 of 729 transfusions (44.4%) and TOP in 265 of 729 (36.4%). Conversely, they were between restrictive and liberal thresholds in 352 (48.3%) and 409 (56.1%) transfusions, respectively, and above liberal thresholds in 53 (7.3%) and 55 (7.5%) transfusions, respectively. Most transfusions given based on threshold had volumes of 15 mL/kg (470 of 738 [63.7%]) and were administered over 3 hours (400 of 738 [54.2%]), but there was substantial variation in dose and duration., Conclusions and Relevance: In this cohort study of very preterm infants, most transfusions indicated for threshold were given for pretransfusion Hb levels above restrictive transfusion thresholds evaluated in recent trials. These results underline the need to optimize practices and for implementation research to support uptake of evidence.

Severe defects in human IFNγ immunity predispose individuals to both Bacillus Calmette-Guérin disease and tuberculosis, whereas milder defects predispose only to tuberculosis 1 . Here we report two adults with recurrent pulmonary tuberculosis who are homozygous for a private loss-of-function TNF variant. Neither has any other clinical phenotype and both mount normal clinical and biological inflammatory responses. Their leukocytes, including monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) do not produce TNF, even after stimulation with IFNγ. Blood leukocyte subset development is normal in these patients. However, an impairment in the respiratory burst was observed in granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF)-matured MDMs and alveolar macrophage-like (AML) cells 2 from both patients with TNF deficiency, TNF- or TNFR1-deficient induced pluripotent stem (iPS)-cell-derived GM-CSF-matured macrophages, and healthy control MDMs and AML cells differentiated with TNF blockers in vitro, and in lung macrophages treated with TNF blockers ex vivo. The stimulation of TNF-deficient iPS-cell-derived macrophages with TNF rescued the respiratory burst. These findings contrast with those for patients with inherited complete deficiency of the respiratory burst across all phagocytes, who are prone to multiple infections, including both Bacillus Calmette-Guérin disease and tuberculosis 3 . Background/objectives: Gestational Weight Gain (GWG) impacts maternal and fetal health; deviations from optimal ranges pose health risks. Maternal lifestyle before and during pregnancy strongly influences GWG. This study explores factors linked to inadequate GWG, focusing on Mediterranean Diet (MD) adherence and specific food consumption., Subjects/methods: 178 pregnant women were enrolled at Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo (Pavia) during pre-hospital care before birth meeting inclusion/exclusion criteria. Sociodemographic data, pre-pregnancy BMI, GWG, MD adherence, physical activity (PA) levels, and smoking habits were retrospectively collected. Validated questionnaires adapted for the target group, assessed MD adherence and PA level. Participants were classified into adequate (AGWG) and inadequate GWG groups following IOM guidelines., Results: Among 200 pregnant women (aged 30-36), 37.1% experienced low GWG and 24.1% excessive GWG. Our study revealed a significant association between inadequate GWG and educational level (P = 0.011); pre-pregnancy BMI (P = 0.005); MD adherence (P = 0.008), and daily average consumption of vegetables (P < 0.001). Our results also showed that a lower risk of EGWG vs. AGWG was associated with daily average consumption of vegetables (RRR = 0.279, P = 0.004), while a higher risk of EGWG vs. AGWG was associated with high daily meat product consumption (> 1.5 portions/day) (RRR = 7.83, P = 0.03)., Conclusion: These findings emphasize the importance of promoting lifestyle changes before and during pregnancy to tackle the increasing incidence of inadequate GWG and improve the health outcomes of both mother and child., (© 2024. Background: Preterm infants are at high risk for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), with potential life-long visual impairment. Low fetal hemoglobin (HbF) levels predict ROP. It is unknown if preventing the HbF decrease also reduces ROP., Methods: BORN is an ongoing multicenter double-blinded randomized controlled trial investigating whether transfusing HbF-enriched cord blood-red blood cells (CB-RBCs) instead of adult donor-RBC units (A-RBCs) reduces the incidence of severe ROP (NCT05100212). Neonates born between 24 and 27 + 6 weeks of gestation are enrolled and randomized 1:1 to receive adult donor-RBCs (A-RBCs, arm A) or allogeneic CB-RBCs (arm B) from birth to the postmenstrual age (PMA) of 31 + 6 weeks. Primary outcome is the rate of severe ROP at 40 weeks of PMA or discharge, with a sample size of 146 patients. A prespecified interim analysis was scheduled after the first 58 patients were enrolled, with the main purpose to evaluate the safety of CB-RBC transfusions., Results: Results in the intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis are reported. Twenty-eight patients were in arm A and 30 in arm B. Overall, 104 A-RBC units and 49 CB-RBC units were transfused, with a high rate of protocol deviations. A total of 336 adverse events were recorded, with similar incidence and severity in the two arms. By per-protocol analysis, patients receiving A-RBCs or both RBC types experienced more adverse events than non-transfused patients or those transfused exclusively with CB-RBCs, and suffered from more severe forms of bradycardia, pulmonary hypertension, and hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus. Serum potassium, lactate, and pH were similar after CB-RBCs or A-RBCs. Fourteen patients died and 44 were evaluated for ROP. Ten of them developed severe ROP, with no differences between arms. At per-protocol analysis each A-RBC transfusion carried a relative risk for severe ROP of 1.66 (95% CI 1.06-2.20) in comparison with CB-RBCs. The area under the curve of HbF suggested that HbF decrement before 30 weeks PMA is critical for severe ROP development. Subsequent CB-RBC transfusions do not lessen the ROP risk., Conclusions: The interim analysis shows that CB-RBC transfusion strategy in preterm neonates is safe and, if early adopted, might protect them from severe ROP., Trial Registration: Prospectively registered at ClinicalTrials.gov on October 29, 2021. Thrombocytopenia (defined as a platelet count <150×10 9 /L) is a common condition in preterm neonates and may occur in 18-35% of all infants admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Neonatal platelet functionality in terms of reactivity is often described as reduced compared to adults, even in healthy, term neonates. However, this platelet "hyporeactivity" does not correspond to a global functional impairment of the normal delicately balanced neonatal hemostatic system. The extent to which neonatal thrombocytopenia and platelet hyporeactivity contribute to the bleeding risk in preterm neonates remains unknown. Prophylactic platelet transfusions are often administered to them to reduce the risk of bleeding. However, recent literature indicates that adopting a higher platelet transfusion threshold than a lower one results in significantly higher death rates or major bleeding and can be harmful. Although the mechanism by which this occurs is not entirely clear, a mismatch between adult transfused platelets and the neonatal hemostatic system, as well as volume overload, are speculated to be potentially involved. Therefore, future research should consider novel transfusion products that may be more suitable for premature neonates. Blood products derived from umbilical cord blood (UCB) are promising, as they might perfectly match neonatal blood features. Here, we discuss the current knowledge about UCB-derived products, focusing on UCB-derived platelet concentrates and their potential for future clinical application. We will discuss how they may overcome the potential risks of transfusing adult-derived platelets to premature infants while maintaining efficacy.

The early emergence of social smiles is an important milestone of infants' socio-emotional development. Our aim was to assess how the use of protective facemasks by adults affects the display of social smiles in preterm (PT) and full-term (FT) infants at 3 months (corrected age for prematurity). We enrolled 30 FT and 30 PT infants (gestational age ≤ 32 weeks). Infants' social smiles displays were assessed at 2-3-month-age (corrected) across a three-episode (masked mother; unmasked mother; masked adult female stranger) videotaped interactive task. During each episode, the adult was instructed to maintain specific facial expressions (happy-smiling, sad-frowning, neutral-unresponsive) for 15 second windows and then instructed to interact spontaneously for 45 s (of which the first 15 s were coded). FT and PT infants did not differ in the display of social smiles. In both groups, social smiles were mostly exhibited in response to happy/smiling and spontaneously interacting partners. Overall, no effect of wearing a protective facemask emerged. The use of protective facemasks did not result in a lower display of social smiles. Newborns admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICU) are at increased risk of health care-associated infections. Serratia marcescens represent the third most common pathogen in NICU outbreaks. Here we present an outbreak investigation performed using Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) analyses and the control measures implemented to limit the spread of S. marcescens in the NICU of an Italian hospital. In February 2023 S. marcescens was isolated from six newborns, when in 2022 this pathogen was isolated only from two samples in the same ward. Measures for infection prevention were adopted. Routinary surveillance screening, performed with rectal swabs collected at admission and weekly thereafter, was implemented to search for S. marcescens presence. Environmental samples were collected. All the isolates, obtained from the conjunctival swab of six newborns, from rectal swab of two newborns who did not develop infections, as well as from the aerators of two faucets, were sequenced. WGS analyses showed no correlation between the isolates from newborns and environmental isolates. The implementation of the measures for infection prevention and control had enabled us to successfully control the outbreak within a short period. Preterm infants cannot counteract excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production due to preterm birth, leading to an excess of lipid peroxidation with malondialdehyde (MDA) production, capable of contributing to brain damage. Melatonin (ME), an endogenous brain hormone, and its metabolites, act as a free radical scavenger against ROS. Unfortunately, preterms have an impaired antioxidant system, resulting in the inability to produce and release ME. This prospective, multicenter, parallel groups, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial aimed to assess: (i) the endogenous production of ME in very preterm infants (gestational age ≤ 29 + 6 WE, 28 infants in the ME and 26 in the placebo group); (ii) the exogenous hormone availability and its metabolization to the main metabolite, 6-OH-ME after 15 days of ME oral treatment; (iii) difference of MDA plasma concentration, as peroxidation marker, after treatment. Blood was collected before the first administration (T1) and after 15 days of administration (T2). ME and 6-OH-ME were detected by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, MDA was measured by liquid chromatograph with fluorescence detection. ME and 6-OH-ME were not detectable in the placebo group at any study time-point. ME was absent in the active group at T1. In contrast, after oral administration, ME and 6-OH-ME resulted highly detectable and the difference between concentrations T2 versus T1 was statistically significant, as well as the difference between treated and placebo groups at T2. MDA levels seemed stable during the 15 days of treatment in both groups. Nevertheless, a trend in the percentage of neonates with reduced MDA concentration at T2/T1 was 48.1% in the ME group versus 38.5% in the placebo group. We demonstrated that very preterm infants are not able to produce endogenous detectable plasma levels of ME during their first days of life. Still, following ME oral administration, appreciable amounts of ME and 6-OH-ME were available. The trend of MDA reduction in the active group requires further clinical trials to fix the dosage, the length of ME therapy and to identify more appropriate indexes to demonstrate, at biological and clinical levels, the antioxidant activity and consequent neuroprotectant potential of ME in very preterm newborns., (© 2023 The Authors. The expression "developmental hemostasis" indicates the age-related physiological changes occurring during the maturational process of the hemostatic system. Despite the quantitative and qualitative alterations, the neonatal hemostatic system is competent and well-balanced. Conventional coagulation tests do not provide reliable information as they only explore the procoagulants during the neonatal period. In contrast, viscoelastic coagulation tests (VCTs), such as viscoelastic coagulation monitoring (VCM), thromboelastography (TEG or ClotPro), and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), are point-of-care assays that provide a quick, dynamic and global view of the hemostatic process, allowing prompt and individualized therapeutic intervention when necessary. Their use in neonatal care is on the increase and they could help monitor patients at risk of hemostatic derangement. In addition, they are crucial for anticoagulation monitoring during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Moreover, implementing VCT-based monitoring could optimize blood product use.

Objectives: To evaluate the rate of postnatal infection during the first month of life in neonates born to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-positive mothers during the predominant circulation of the omicron (B.1.1.529) variant., Methods: This prospective, 10-center study enrolled mothers infected by SARS-CoV-2 at delivery and their infants, if both were eligible for rooming-in, between December 2021 and March 2022. Neonates were screened for SARS-CoV-2 RNA at 1 day of life (DOL), 2 to 3 DOL, before discharge, and twice after hospital discharge. Mother-infant dyads were managed under a standardized protocol to minimize the risk of viral transmission. Sequencing data in the study area were obtained from the Italian Coronavirus Disease 2019 Genomic platform. Neonates were included in the final analysis if they were born when the omicron variant represented >90% of isolates., Results: Eighty-two percent (302/366) of mothers had an asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection. Among 368 neonates, 1 was considered infected in utero (0.3%), whereas the postnatal infection rate during virtually exclusive circulation of the omicron variant was 12.1%. Among neonates infected after birth, 48.6% became positive during the follow-up period. Most positive cases at follow-up were detected concurrently with the peak of coronavirus disease 2019 cases in Italy. Ninety-seven percent of the infected neonates were asymptomatic., Conclusions: The risk of early postnatal infection by the SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant is higher than that reported for previously circulating variants. Our narrative review focuses on colostrum components, particularly those that influence the neonatal immune system of newborns. Colostrum is secreted in small volumes by the alveolar cells of the breast during the first two to five days after birth. Colostrum is poor in fat and carbohydrates, with larger protein and bioactive compounds than mature milk. It plays a crucial role in driving neonates' immunity, transferring those immunological factors which help the correct development of the neonatal immune system and support establishing a healthy gut microbiome. The newborn has an innate and adaptive immune system deficiency, with a consequent increase in infection susceptibility. In particular, neonates born prematurely have reduced immunological competencies due to an earlier break in the maternal trans-placenta transfer of bioactive components, such as maternal IgG antibodies. Moreover, during pregnancy, starting from the second trimester, maternal immune cells are conveyed to the fetus and persist in small quantities post-natal, whereby this transfer is known as microchimerism (MMc). Thus, preterm newborns are deficient in this maternal heritage, and have their own immune system under-developed, but colostrum can compensate for the lack. Early breastfeeding, which should be strongly encouraged in mothers of preterm and full-term babies, provides those immunomodulant compounds that can act as a support, allowing the newborn to face immune needs, including fronting infections and establishing tolerance. Moreover, making mothers aware that administering colostrum helps their infants in building a healthy immune system is beneficial to sustain them in the difficult post-partum period.

Mosquito-borne West Nile virus (WNV) infection is benign in most individuals but can cause encephalitis in <1% of infected individuals. We show that ∼35% of patients hospitalized for WNV disease (WNVD) in six independent cohorts from the EU and USA carry auto-Abs neutralizing IFN-α and/or -ω. The prevalence of these antibodies is highest in patients with encephalitis (∼40%), and that in individuals with silent WNV infection is as low as that in the general population. The odds ratios for WNVD in individuals with these auto-Abs relative to those without them in the general population range from 19.0 (95% CI 15.0-24.0, P value <10-15) for auto-Abs neutralizing only 100 pg/ml IFN-α and/or IFN-ω to 127.4 (CI 87.1-186.4, P value <10-15) for auto-Abs neutralizing both IFN-α and IFN-ω at a concentration of 10 ng/ml. These antibodies block the protective effect of IFN-α in Vero cells infected with WNV in vitro. The aim of the present study, endorsed by the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS) and the Italian Society of Neonatology (SIN), was to analyze the current delivery room (DR) stabilization practices in a large sample of European birth centers that care for preterm infants with gestational age (GA) < 33 weeks. Cross-sectional electronic survey was used in this study. A questionnaire focusing on the current DR practices for infants < 33 weeks' GA, divided in 6 neonatal resuscitation domains, was individually sent to the directors of European neonatal facilities, made available as a web-based link. A comparison was made between hospitals grouped into 5 geographical areas (Eastern Europe (EE), Italy (ITA), Mediterranean countries (MC), Turkey (TUR), and Western Europe (WE)) and between high- and low-volume units across Europe. Two hundred and sixty-two centers from 33 European countries responded to the survey. At the time of the survey, approximately 20,000 very low birth weight (VLBW, < 1500 g) infants were admitted to the participating hospitals, with a median (IQR) of 48 (27-89) infants per center per year. Significant differences between the 5 geographical areas concerned: the volume of neonatal care, ranging from 86 (53-206) admitted VLBW infants per center per year in TUR to 35 (IQR 25-53) in MC; the umbilical cord (UC) management, being the delayed cord clamping performed in < 50% of centers in EE, ITA, and MC, and the cord milking the preferred strategy in TUR; the spotty use of some body temperature control strategies, including thermal mattress mainly employed in WE, and heated humidified gases for ventilation seldom available in MC; and some of the ventilation practices, mainly in regard to the initial FiO 2 for < 28 weeks' GA infants, pressures selected for ventilation, and the preferred interface to start ventilation. Specifically, 62.5% of TUR centers indicated the short binasal prongs as the preferred interface, as opposed to the face mask which is widely adopted as first choice in > 80% of the rest of the responding units; the DR surfactant administration, which ranges from 44.4% of the birth centers in MC to 87.5% in WE; and, finally, the ethical issues around the minimal GA limit to provide full resuscitation, ranging from 22 to 25 weeks across Europe. A comparison between high- and low-volume units showed significant differences in the domains of UC management and ventilation practices.    Conclusion: Current DR practice and ethical choices show similarities and divergences across Europe. Some areas of assistance, like UC management and DR ventilation strategies, would benefit of standardization. Clinicians and stakeholders should consider this information when allocating resources and planning European perinatal programs.
