1. Quantum Imaging and Metrology with Undetected squeezed Photons: Noise Canceling and Noise Based Imaging

Abstract

In this work a quantum imaging setup based on undetected squeezed photons is employed for metrological applications such as sensitive phase measurement and quantum imaging. In spite of the traditional quantum imaging with undetected photons, introduced by A. Zeilinger et. al, the proposed setup is equipped by a homodyne detection and also the brightness of the quantum light is enhanced by an optical parametric oscillator (OPO). Introducing OPO may be diminish the validity of the low gain approximation, so a theoretical approach beyond this approximation is introduced. Due to the resource of squeezing, the results reveal the higher amount of signal to noise ratio, as a measure of image quality and phase-measurement accuracy. Accordingly, an imaging protocol is introduced to suppress the background noises, effectively. Interestingly, This protocol provides a way to extract the image information which is encoded in the quantum fluctuation (noise). Therefore, non-disruptive imaging is achievable, which is noteworthy subject in the field of bio-imaging of sensitive and low damage threshold living cells., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

Abstract

This initiative examined systematically the extent to which a large set of archival research findings generalizes across contexts. We repeated the key analyses for 29 original strategic management effects in the same context (direct reproduction) as well as in 52 novel time periods and geographies; 45% of the reproductions returned results matching the original reports together with 55% of tests in different spans of years and 40% of tests in novel geographies. Some original findings were associated with multiple new tests. Reproducibility was the best predictor of generalizability—for the findings that proved directly reproducible, 84% emerged in other available time periods and 57% emerged in other geographies. Overall, only limited empirical evidence emerged for context sensitivity. In a forecasting survey, independent scientists were able to anticipate which effects would find support in tests in new samples. Publisher PDF

9. Multi-objective Semi-supervised clustering for finding predictive clusters

Abstract

This study concentrates on clustering problems and aims to find compact clusters that are informative regarding the outcome variable. The main goal is partitioning data points so that observations in each cluster are similar and the outcome variable can be predicted using these clusters simultaneously. We model this semi-supervised clustering problem as a multi-objective optimization problem with considering deviation of data points in clusters and prediction error of the outcome variable as two objective functions to be minimized. For finding optimal clustering solutions, we employ a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II approach and local regression is applied as the prediction method for the output variable. For comparing the performance of the proposed model, we compute seven models using five real-world data sets. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of using local regression for predicting the outcome variable in all models and examine the performance of the multi-objective models compared to single-objective models.

11. A survey on Optimisation-based Semi-supervised Clustering Methods

Abstract

Clustering methods are developed for categorizing data points into different groups so that data points within each group have high similarities. Classic clustering algorithms are unsupervised, meaning that there is not any kind of complementary information to be utilized for attaining better clustering results. However, in some clustering problems, one may have supplementary information which can be employed for guiding the clustering process. In the presence of such information, the problem is semi-supervised clustering. In some articles, the problem of semi-supervised clustering is modeled as an optimization problem. In this research, optimization-based semi-supervised clustering papers from 2013 to 2020 are reviewed. This review is conducted based on a four-step procedure. It is attempted to explore objective functions and optimization algorithms used in these articles, as well as application domain and types of supervised information.

14. Special section article using an integrated social cognition model to predict COVID-19 preventive behaviours

Abstract

Objectives: Rates of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) infections have rapidly increased worldwide and reached pandemic proportions. A suite of preventive behaviours have been recommended to minimize risk of COVID‐19 infection in the general population. The present study utilized an integrated social cognition model to explain COVID‐19 preventive behaviours in a sample from the Iranian general population.\ud \ud Design: The study adopted a three‐wave prospective correlational design.\ud \ud Methods: Members of the general public (N = 1,718, M age = 33.34, SD = 15.77, male = 796, female = 922) agreed to participate in the study. Participants completed self‐report measures of demographic characteristics, intention, attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioural control, and action self‐efficacy at an initial data collection occasion. One week later, participants completed self‐report measures of maintenance self‐efficacy, action planning and coping planning, and, a further week later, measures of COVID‐19 preventive behaviours. Hypothesized relationships among social cognition constructs and COVID‐19 preventive behaviours according to the proposed integrated model were estimated using structural equation modelling.\ud \ud Results: The proposed model fitted the data well according to multiple goodness‐of‐fit criteria. All proposed relationships among model constructs were statistically significant. The social cognition constructs with the largest effects on COVID‐19 preventive behaviours were coping planning (β = .575, p < .001) and action planning (β = .267, p < .001).\ud \ud \ud Conclusions: Current findings may inform the development of behavioural interventions in health care contexts by identifying intervention targets. In particular, findings suggest targeting change in coping planning and action planning may be most effective in promoting participation in COVID‐19 preventive behaviours.

Abstract

Background and Purpose: Naganishia albida (formerly Cryptococcus albidus) is a non-neoformans cryptococcal species rarely isolated as a human pathogen. Case report: Herein, we present the case of a 26-year-old Iranian man with a superficial cutaneous lesion in the axilla. The initial treatment for pityriasis versicolor by clotrimazole was unsuccessful. We performed skin sampling based on the standard protocol and conducted further investigations by the conventional laboratory tests and molecular analysis of the skin samples. All the mentioned analyses revealed N. albida as the causative agent of infection. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) analysis was carried out for the isolated agent, and the patient was treated using 100 mg daily of oral itraconazole. Conclusion: N. albida can be the causative agent of some superficial infections. This is the first report on the successful detection and treatment of a superficial skin infection due to N. albida by oral itraconazole.&nbsp

34. Recursive identification of nonlinear two-dimensional (2-D) systems.

Abstract

In this paper a recursive identification method is proposed for two-dimensional nonlinear time-varying systems for the first time in the literature. No structural information, mathematical model, external testing signals and training process are needed. It is designed only by using I/O data of the systems. The algorithm is based on a dynamic linearization technique and is proposed for a class of two-dimensional discrete-time single-input single-output nonlinear systems. The algorithm uses the pseudo-partial-derivatives derived on-line from the input and output information of the system using a recursive projection type of identification algorithm. Numerical simulations are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for the estimation of temperature of catalytic rod during process in a reactor. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the association of somatic cell score (SCS) with milk, fat and protein yields across parities. Records of production traits and somatic cell counts (SCC) from first, second and third parity that were collected by the Animal Breeding Center of Iran from 1993 to 2010 were used. All animals were grouped into six classes according to SCC and production traits were evaluated in these SCC classes. To obtain an approximate normal distribution, SCC records were transformed on the base of Loge to somatic cell score (LSCS, the lactation mean of the natural log of test-day somatic cell count). A single trait animal model that LSCS was fitted as covariate was used to assess relations of SCS with production traits in fist, second and third parities. Effect of SCS on production traits in all of parities was negative and significant (P<0.05). Ranges of depressing effects on milk, fat and protein production were 107.78-220.41, 2.32-7.08 and 2.1-5.2 kg per 1 unit increase in SCS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Magnesium oxide nanotubes of finite length are investigated by the Density Functional Theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-31G (d) level. The (6, 0) zigzag and (4, 4) armchair of MgO nanotubes were considered and nuclear magnetic resonance properties including isotropic and anisotropic chemical shielding parameters (CSI and CSA) were calculated for 25Mg and 17O atoms of the optimized structures for the first time. The calculated CS parameters indicated that the Mg atoms cause slight changes of electronic environment in the MgONT structures, but the changes for the O atoms are more significant. Results indicated that the zigzag MgONTs could be considered a more reactive material than the armchair model for interactions with other atoms or molecules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Abstract: The inhibition action of the citric acid and three surfactants: sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), t-octyl phenoxy polyethoxyethanol (Triton X-100), sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS) on the corrosion behavior and gas evolution of Pb–Sb–As–Se was investigated in 12.5M H2SO4 solution with linear sweep polarization, cyclic voltammetry and weight loss measurements methods. The results drawn from different techniques are comparable. It was found that these surfactants and citric acid act as good inhibitors for the corrosion of lead alloy in H2SO4 solution. SDS inhibited most effectively the lead alloy corrosion among the three surfactants and citric acid. The inhibition efficiency for the inhibitors decreases in the order: SDS>SDBS>Triton X-100>citric acid>blank. The inhibition efficiency increases with rising of the inhibitor concentration. In this work, the effect of the inhibitors on hydrogen and oxygen evolution was studied. In addition, it was found that the adsorption of used inhibitors on lead alloy surface follows Langmuir isotherm. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Abstract: The inhibition effect of some amino acids towards the corrosion of aluminum in 1M HCl+1M H2SO4 solution was investigated using weight loss measurement, linear polarization and SEM techniques. The results drawn from the different techniques are comparable. The used amino acids were alanine, leucine, valine, proline, methionine, and tryptophan. The effect of inhibitor concentration and temperature against inhibitor action was investigated. It was found that these amino acids act as good inhibitors for the corrosion of aluminum in 1M HCl+1M H2SO4 solution. Increasing inhibitor concentration increases the inhibition efficiency and with increasing temperature the inhibition efficiency decreases. It was found that adsorption of used amino acids on aluminum surface follows Langmuir and Frumkin isotherms. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Introduction: Infertility is a serious problem in a couple's life that affects their marriage relationships. So, dissatisfaction with sexual function resulting from interpersonal problems is common among these couples. This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of infertile women in their sexual life. Materials and Methods: This is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. The participants were 20 infertile women referring to the health care centers and infertility clinics of Isfahan and were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected by tape recording of deep interviews and analyzed by Colaizzi's method. Results: Analysis of the participants' experiences led to five main concepts: "disturbed in femininity-body image," "discouragement of sexual relations," "sacrifice of sexual pleasure for the sake of getting pregnant," "confusion in sexual relation during infertility treatment," and "striving to protect their marriage." Conclusion: Findings revealed that infertility affects women's different aspects of sexual life, especially disturbance in femininity-body image and sexual reluctance. With regard to women's willingness to protect their matrimonial life and prevent sexual trauma as a destroying factor for their family's mental health, it seems sexual counseling is necessary for infertile couples. Abstract

The precise organization of pre- and postsynaptic terminals is crucial for normal synaptic function in the brain. In addition to its canonical role as a neurotrophin-3 receptor tyrosine kinase, postsynaptic TrkC promotes excitatory synapse organization through interaction with presynaptic receptor-type tyrosine phosphatase PTPσ. To isolate the synaptic organizer function of TrkC from its role as a neurotrophin-3 receptor, we generated mice carrying TrkC point mutations that selectively abolish PTPσ binding. The excitatory synapses in mutant mice had abnormal synaptic vesicle clustering and postsynaptic density elongation, more silent synapses, and fewer active synapses, which additionally exhibited enhanced basal transmission with impaired release probability. Alongside these phenotypes, we observed aberrant synaptic protein phosphorylation, but no differences in the neurotrophin signaling pathway. Consistent with reports linking these aberrantly phosphorylated proteins to neuropsychiatric disorders, mutant TrkC knock-in mice displayed impaired social responses and increased avoidance behavior. 48. Health-Related Quality of Life Among Iranian Women With Uterine Fibroids: A Cross Sectional Study.

Abstract

Objective: Uterine fibroids (UFs) are the most common benign tumors in women, and their prevalence varies between 5.4 and 77.0% in reproductive-aged women. Patients with UFs may experience severe symptoms that they can affect different aspects of their lives, including quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the health-related quality of life among Iranian women with UFs., Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Imam Hossein Hospital, Tehran, Iran, between November 2023 and February 2024, Data collection was based on the census method. Uterine Fibroid Symptom and Health-related Quality of Life (UFS-QOL) questionnaire was used to assess symptom severity and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of women with UFs. Data were analyzed using the SPSS software version 23.0., Results: Overall, 220 patients with a mean age of 43.10±5.01 years were included in the study. Patients had total UFS-QOL score of 64.11±20.35 with the following subscales' scores: symptom severity: (19.00±6.39), concern: (60.79±26.47), activities: (71.76±23.02), energy/mood: (54.39±25.14), control: (66.52±22.82), self-consciousness: (77.63±26.39), and sexual function: (59.40±31.18). Furthermore, patients with multiparity history (P= 0.001), obesity (P<0.001), increased menstrual duration (P<0.001), irregular menstruation (P<0.001), and hyper menorrhea (P<0.001) had lower HRQOL scores., Conclusion: All subscales' scores of HRQOL were over 50 in patients with UF. Abstract

Breast cancer is considered as the most common malignancy in women and the second leading cause of death related to cancer. Recombinant DNA technologies accelerated the development of antibody-based cancer therapy, which is effective in a broad range of cancers. The objective of the present study was to perform a systematic review on breast cancer immunotherapy using single-chain fragment variable (scFv) antibody formats. Searches were performed up to March 2023 using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (ISI) databases. Three reviewers independently assessed study eligibility, data extraction, and evaluated the methodological quality of included primary studies. Different immunotherapy approaches have been identified and the most common approaches were scFv-conjugates, followed by simple scFvs and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) therapy, respectively. Among breast cancer antigens, HER superfamily, CD family, and EpCAM were applied as the most important breast cancer immunotherapy targets. 50. Systemic and Lung Inflammation and Oxidative Stress Associated With Behavioral Changes Induced by Inhaled Paraquat Are Ameliorated by Carvacrol.

Abstract

Paraquat (PQ) is an herbicide toxin that induces injury in different organs. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of carvacrol were reported previously. The effects of carvacrol and pioglitazone (Pio) alone and their combination on inhaled PQ-induced systemic and lung oxidative stress and inflammation as well as behavioral changes were examined in rats. In this study, animals were exposed to saline (control [Ctrl]) or PQ (PQ groups) aerosols. PQ-exposed animals were treated with 0.03 mg/kg/day dexamethasone (Dexa), 20 and 80 mg/kg/day carvacrol (C-L and C-H), 5 mg/kg/day Pio, and Pio+C-L for 16 days. Inhaled PQ markedly enhanced total and differential white blood cell (WBC) counts, nitric oxide (NO), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels but decreased catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and thiol levels both in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and blood and increased interferon-gamma (INF- γ ) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels in the BALF ( p < 0.001 for all cases) except lymphocyte count in blood which was not significantly changed. The escape latency and traveled distance were increased in the PQ group. However, the time spent in the target quadrant in the Morris water maze (MWM) test and the duration of time latency in the dark room in the shuttle box test were reduced after receiving an electrical shock ( p < 0.05- p < 0.001). Inhaled PQ-induced changes were significantly improved in carvacrol, Pio, Dexa, and especially in the combination of the Pio+C-L treated groups ( p < 0.05- p < 0.001). Carvacrol and Pio improved PQ-induced changes similar to Dexa, but ameliorative effects produced by combination treatments of Pio+C-L were more prominent than Pio and C-L alone, suggesting a potentiating effect for the combination of the two agents., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2024 Arghavan Memarzia et al.)
