Statement of Problem: Hemodialytic patients may be exposed to periodontal diseases during treatment. No information of any kind is available regarding the periodontal treatment needs of such patients. Purpose: The aim of the present study was to determine the periodontal treatment needs of hemodialytic patients, living in Tehran, to be presented to the public health system. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study using CPITN index 75 patients according to multi-stage sampling method and in proportion to the number of patients in Tehran were selected. Following necessary training, qualified subjects were chosen and a special questionnaire was completed for each using personal protection, CPITN index, by WHO prob, was examined and numbered according to (0-4) codes. Results: The findings showed that 10.6% of the patients had normal periodontal status (Code-0), 12% of the patients had bleeding upon probing (code-1), 21.4% had calculus (Code-2), 21% of the patients had shallow pockets (Code-3) and 24% had deep pockets. It was also shown that 89.4% of the patients needed oral hygiene instruction, 77.4% needed scaling and 24% required advanced periodontal treatments whereas only 10.6% did not need any treatment. Conclusion: No statistically significant relationship was found between periodontal status and factors such as age, sex, the history of hemodialysis treatment and level of patients’ education.

This study aims to prepare optimal feedstock for fabrication of Al/SiC nanocomposites by the low-pressure injection molding technique. For this purpose, micron-sized aluminum and nanosized SiC powders were mixed with different amounts of the binder consisting of 89 wt% paraffin wax, 9 wt% bees wax, and 2 wt% stearic acid. Rheometry analyses as well as the Weir model were utilized to determine the optimal feedstock with the desired rheological properties and high homogeneity. Considering powder to binder ratios, shear sensitivity, flow activation energy, and homogeneity within the rheometry analyses, the feedstock of 78 wt% powder loading is selected as the optimal sample for injection molding. Investigation of optimal feedstock by the scanning electron microscopy technique also verified the high homogeneity of this feedstock. In addition, it was observed that all of the feedstocks had thixotrop behavior.

Background: There is a standard methodology for measuring and evaluating the availability and affordability of selected medicines in the healthcare system, especially in low- and middle-income countries., Aim: To investigate availability, affordability and accessibility of medicines in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2021 and compare the results with those from 2019., Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study investigated the availability and affordability of 60 selected medicines in Islamic Republic of Iran. Availability and affordability were measured using the WHO/Health Action International methodology., Results: The availability rates for originator brands in the public, private and other sectors were 6.4%, 8.6% and 6.8%, respectively. In contrast, availability rates for lowest-priced and most-sold generics were 44.7% and 63.6% in the public sector, 45.4% and 66.4% in the private sector, and 39.6% and 58.6% in other sectors. Only 20.0% of originator brands in the Islamic Republic of Iran were affordable, while 96.6% of the lowest priced and 95.0% of the most sold generics were affordable., Conclusion: Most medicines in the Islamic Republic of Iran were affordable and the pharmaceutical supply chain was acceptable., (Copyright: © Authors 2024; Licensee: World Health Organization.
