Abstract Hypertension is a persistent systemic Blood Pressure reading of 140/90 mm Hg or greater which is a preventable cause of cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. To assess non-adherence to appointment follow-up and its associated factors among Hypertensive patients in the follow-up clinics in South Gondar Hospitals 2023. Institutional-based cross-sectional study design was employed in hospitals in South Gondar from January to February to assess missed appointment follow-up and its associated factors among Hypertensive patients in follow-up clinics. There is one comprehensive specialized hospital and 9 primary hospitals in this zone. Using simple random methods four hospitals were selected by lottery method. The sample was calculated by using the single population proportion formula. The collected data was entered into Epi data version 3.1 and exported to Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 26 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the association factors. A total of 401 hypertensive patients on hypertensive follow-up were involved with a response rate of 95.02%. Age ranged from 25 to 86 years with a median age of 58.47 years. Of the total of participants, 211 (52.6.) were rural residents. Among the total hypertensive patients in the hypertensive follow-up clinic, 39.2% were non-adherent for their appointment follow-up. Living far from follow-up health facility (AOR: 2.53; 95% CI 1.349–4.743), absence of perceived symptoms (AOR: 4.98; 95% CI 2.888–8.590), patient complaints Pill burdens (AOR: 3.50; 95% CI 2.108–5.825), and poor Awareness about complication of hypertension (AOR: 2.62; 95% CI 1.471–4.673) were significantly associated with missing of their appointment follow-up for the most hypertensive patients. The prevalence of non-adherence to medical follow-up in hypertension is high as compared to different national health policy recommendations. Distance from the health facility, absence of perceived symptoms, Pill burdens, and lack of knowledge about complications of hypertension were significantly associated with Missed appointment follow-up in Hypertensive patient.

AbstractThe desire to make transport infrastructure a universal good that all who need it could use has stimulated research works on assessing the impact of transport decisions on social welfare and equitable distribution of cost, benefits and opportunities. To trigger alternative policy debates, this paper employs the social equity framework and spells out the socio-economic pitfalls and undesired consequences of road infrastructure expansion and the power dynamics involved in Ethiopia. Data were collected and analysed through literature review, and inductive and normative analysis techniques. The paper found that although the massive road development is driven by the country’s developmental state political economy, international partners have stimulated the desire through the provision of finance. Thus, the large sum of money pumped into road infrastructure has depleted resources from other social sectors such as education and health, and created an unprecedented debt burden on the country. Road expansion has also disproportionately affected the poor who have shouldered most of its undesired socio-economic impacts such as the disruption of social cohesion, displacement, congestion, traffic accidents and environmental impacts. Furthermore, it was found that the decision-making process is affected by ethnic favouritism, urban bias and a top-down approach where the rural poor and peripheral areas are deprived of the power to influence decisions and equitably benefit from any connectivity programs.

This study was aimed to investigate the selective electrochemical determination for dopamine based on thioglyolic acid-modified gold electrode. Negatively charged Au electrode surface was created by making Thioglycolic acid film through thiol functional group. Greater oxidation current and less overpotential was observed for the oxidation of dopamine in phosphate buffer solution of pH 8.0 at thioglyolic acid-modified gold electrode than bare Au electrode due to the electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged thioglyolic acid-modified gold electrode surface and positively charged dopamine. The electrochemical behavior of dopamine at the thioglyolic acid-modified gold electrode showed a linear response from 0.05 to 100.0 µM and the limit of detection is 0.01 µM using chronoamperommetry. The proposed thioglyolic acid-modified gold electrode shows good repeatability and promising application in dopamine hydrochloride injection sample.

Background: The poor socio-economic status, underdeveloped health care system, and the high HIV/AIDS burden have potentially increased the incidence of cervical cancer in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) including Ethiopia. Studies on the magnitude of pre-cancerous cervical lesion and human papillomavirus (HPV) among HIV-infected women are still limited, particularly in the current study setting. Thus, we determined the prevalence of pre-cancerous cervical lesion and HPV among HIV-infected women in comparison with HIV-uninfected women at Debre Tabor Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (DTCSH), North-West Ethiopia., Methods: Hospital-based comparative retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted among 546 women from July 2018 to January 2020 at DTCSH. All records during the study period were collected using a structured checklist. Epi data version 4.02 and SPSS version 25.0 were used for data entry and analysis, respectively., Results: The overall prevalence of pre-cancerous cervical lesion among 546 women was 8.8%. The prevalence of pre-cancerous cervical lesion was comparable between HIV-infected (9.3%) and HIV-uninfected women (8.6%) (p = 0.859). Age >45 years old, widowed marital status, multiparous (women ≥ 5 childbirths), and educational status were independent contributing factors of a pre-cancerous cervical lesion. Regarding HPV prevalence, among 109 screened women, 7 (6.4%) were positive for both HPV 16 and 18 strains., Conclusion: HIV infection was not statistically correlated with the magnitude of pre-cancerous cervical lesion (p = 0.859). Women in the study setting developed pre-cancerous cervical lesions irrespective of their HIV status.
