Вказується, у сучасній Україні, в контексті її розвитку як правової держави, євроінтеграції, еволюції публічного управління, реформи місце­вого самоврядування, розвитку об’єднаних те­риторіальних громад, розвитку інститутів грома­дянського суспільства, адміністративної рефор­ми, важливого значення набуває забезпечення дієвого адміністративно-правового регулювання проектів економічного розвитку об’єднаних тери­торіальних громад. Зазначається, проекти економічного розвит­ку об’єднаних територіальних громад нині мають надзвичайно важливе значення в Україні для по­дальшого розвитку об’єднаних територіальних громад, зростання доходів місцевих бюджетів, підвищення економічної самостійності об’єднаних територіальних громад, створення нових якісних робочих місць, впровадження принципів сталого розвитку на місцевому рівні, ведення ефективно­го господарювання, розвитку сільського госпо­дарства, сприяння розвитку малого бізнесу, а та­кож розвитку місцевого самоврядування і спри­яння євроінтеграції України. Автори погоджуються з основним змістом ви­значення поняття «функції органів місцевого са­моврядування», яке висловили науковці, взявши за основу конструкцію визначення даного термі­ну як «основні напрями їх діяльності», детальніше розглянутр функції органів місцевого самовряду­вання, які вони здійснюють в сфері транскордон­ного співробітництва. В результаті дослідження статті 13 Закону України (функцій міжмуніципального транскор­донного співробітництва) виявлено відсутність в статті 13 Закону України «Про транскордонне співробітництво» функціонального відображення передбачених даним Законом та Законом України «Про місцеве самоврядування в Україні» повно­важень в частині утворення, діяльності та виходу з об’єднання єврорегіонального співробітництва. З метою уникнення прогалини врегулювання функцій суб’єктів транскордонного співробітни­цтва України, запропоновано доповнити новою функцією та викласти статтю 13 Закону України «Про транскордонне співробітництво» в новій ре­дакції.

Digital phenotyping is the characterization of human behavior patterns based on data from digital devices such as smartphones in order to gain insights into the users’ state and especially to identify ailments. To support supervised machine learning, digital phenotyping requires gathering data from study participants’ smartphones as they live their lives. Periodically, participants are then asked to provide ground truth labels about their health status. Analyzing such complex data is challenging due to limited contextual information and imperfect health/wellness labels. We propose INteractive PHOne-o-typing VISualization (INPHOVIS), an interactive visual framework for exploratory analysis of smartphone health data to study phone-o-types. Prior visualization work has focused on mobile health data with clear semantics such as steps or heart rate data collected using dedicated health devices and wearables such as smartwatches. However, unlike smartphones which are owned by over 85 percent of the US population, wearable devices are less prevalent thus reducing the number of people from whom such data can be collected. In contrast, the “low-level” sensor data (e.g., accelerometer or GPS data) supported by INPHOVIS can be easily collected using smartphones. Data visualizations are designed to provide the essential contextualization of such data and thus help analysts discover complex relationships between observed sensor values and health-predictive phone-o-types. To guide the design of INPHOVIS, we performed a hierarchical task analysis of phone-o-typing requirements with health domain experts. We then designed and implemented multiple innovative visualizations integral to INPHOVIS including stacked bar charts to show diurnal behavioral patterns, calendar views to visualize day-level data along with bar charts, and correlation views to visualize important wellness predictive data. We demonstrate the usefulness of INPHOVIS with walk-throughs of use cases. We also evaluated INPHOVIS with expert feedback and received encouraging responses.

Introduction. The impact of traumatic experiences has always been a part of human life. According to Judith Herman, an American psychotherapist, and professor at Harvard Medical School, "traumatic events overload a person's usual strategies for adapting to life, his usual security systems that give a sense of control, connection, and meaning." Also, traumatic events, for the most part, contain close personal contact with violence and death and pose a threat to life or physical integrity. For almost one year of the war, Ukrainian society faced a large number of negative phenomena capable of causing severe psychological trauma: disruption of the usual lifestyle, loss of family friends, and property, lack of many vital needs for a person, forced migration, uncertainty, a constant threat for health and life, etc. The purpose of the study was to analysis of scientific and literary data reflecting the history of the formation of the concept of "post-traumatic stress disorder" as a nosological unit, as well as the peculiarities of its manifestation and prevalence, diagnostic criteria. Materials and methods: A systematic search was conducted in the main electronic medical databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and processed publications that studied the history of the formation of "post-traumatic stress disorder" as a nosological unit, the features of its manifestation and prevalence. diagnostic criteria. Eligible studies were identified using keywords: post-traumatic stress disorder, psychotraumatology, trauma, physioneurosis, history of medicine. All types of articles were reviewed, including original studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. Review and discussion: For a long time, there was a stigmatization of combat-related disorders in society. The path to the development of PTSD as a psychiatric diagnosis is long and thorny. After the World War II, there was an urgent need to introduce a standard unified nomenclature that would enable doctors from all over the world to have a common language for discussing the psychopathology of this disorder, establishing a diagnosis and determining disability. Over 60 years, starting in 1952, when the American Psychiatric Association (APA) introduced the concept of "brutal stress reaction" in its first edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-I) and up to 2013 (DSM-5) formation of post-traumatic stress disorder as a nosological unit was taking place. Conclusions: Despite the non-acceptance, stigmatization, indifference and other difficulties, PTSD finally achieved official status in the recognized list of diagnoses.

Human Bio-Behavioral Rhythms (HBRs) such as sleep-wake cycles (Circadian Rhythms), and the degree of regularity of sleep and physical activity have important health ramifications. Ubiquitous devices such as smartphones can sense HBRs by continuously analyzing data gathered passively by built-in sensors to discover important clues about the degree of regularity and disruptions in behavioral patterns. As human behavior is complex and smartphone data is voluminous with many channels (sensor types), it can be challenging to make meaningful observations, detect unhealthy HBR deviations and most importantly pin-point the causes of disruptions. Prior work has largely utilized computational methods such as machine and deep learning approaches, which while accurate, are often not explainable and present few actionable insights on HBR patterns or causes. To assist analysts in the discovery and understanding of HBR patterns, disruptions and causes, we propose ARGUS, an interactive visual analytics framework. As a foundation of ARGUS, we design an intuitive Rhythm Deviation Score (RDS) that analyzes users’ smartphone sensor data, extracts underlying twenty-four-hour rhythms and quantifies their degree of irregularity.​ This score is then visualized using a glyph that makes it easy to recognize disruptions in the regularity of HBRs. ARGUS also facilitates deeper HBR insights and understanding of causes by linking multiple visualization panes that are overlaid with objective sensor information such as geo-locations and phone state (screen locked, charging), and user-provided or smartphone-inferred ground truth information. This array of visualization overlays in ARGUS enables​ analysts to gain a more comprehensive picture of HBRs, behavioral patterns and deviations from regularity. The design of ARGUS was guided by a goal and task analysis study involving an expert versed in HBR and smartphone sensing. To demonstrate its utility and generalizability, two different datasets were explored using ARGUS and our use cases and designs were strongly validated in evaluation sessions with expert and non-expert users.

Вказується, в Україні триває процес пошуку та становлення ефективної системи державного управління, побудови організаційної структури системи органів та їх діяльності. У відповідності з цим процесом створюється і система контролю у сфері виконавчої влади. Крім того, сьогодні вчергове країни зіштовхнулися з глобальною проблемою міграційних світових рухів, що стало причиною перегляду усталених стандартів формування міграційної політики багатьох держав. В Україні питання міграції ще більше актуалізувалося у зв’язку із внутрішньодержавними переміщеннями осіб, що пов’язане із повномасштабною війною з росією. Відповідно, формування належного контрольного механізму у міграційній сфері не тільки не втрачає своєї актуальності, але і стає життєво важливим у сучасних умовах. Встановлено, при визначенні поняття «контроль» варто відмітити, що не дивлячись на те, що велика кількість повноважень владних суб’єктів де факто спрямовані на здійснення контрольної функції, у нормативних актах контроль не завжди прямо називається, а там, де і вживається, то не пояснюється. Тому його поняття існує переважно у сфері наукових абстракцій. Зміст контрольної діяльності включає тільки фактовстановлюючу та оціночну складові та не передбачає застосування заходів примусу чи заохочення, що можуть застосовуватися або за наслідками проведення контрольної діяльності, або без такого. У протилежному випадку зміст контролю занадто розширюється. Відповідно ускладнюється як його наукова систематизація, так і нормативне врегулювання його принципів, видів, методів, форм та способів здійснення, основних вимог до процедури його здійснення. Юрисдикційна складова, притягнення до відповідальності здійснюється у відповідності до відмінних принципів та правил, регулюється окремими нормами, які стосуються адміністративної та дисциплінарної відповідальності. Тому розширення змісту контролю аж до засобу покарання не є виправданим ні з теоретичної, ні з практичної сторони.

Стаття присвячена дослідженню правового регулювання міграційного контролю, безпеки, правового регулювання надання притулку, інтеграції іммігрантів тощо в країнах ЄС, а також його узагальнення та виділення етапів розвитку такого регулювання. Встановлено, що загалом, можна виділити чотири таких етапи: 1) з початку формування Європейського співтовариства і до кінця 60-х років ХХ ст.; кін. 60-х – 70-ті рр. ХХ ст.; 80 рр. ХХ ст. – нульові роки ХІ ст.; 4) починаючи з 10-х років ХІ століття. Встановлено, що на першому етапі формування Європейського співтовариства міграційна політика не становила актуальності у правовому регулюванні. Досліджено, що початок другого етапу пов’язаний із прийняттям у 1968 році Регламенту «Про свободу пересування працівників в рамках співтовариства», метою якого було становлення стимулювань до мобільності та гнучкості трудової міграції всередині європейського утворення. Цей регламент передбачає скасування будь-якої дискримінації за ознакою національної приналежності між працівниками держав-членів щодо зайнятості, оплати праці та інших умов праці та зайнятості. Визначено, що на третьому етапі відбулося перенесення питання міграції із економіко-соціальної сфери до сфери політики. Важливим фактором політизації питання міграції стало використання інституту притулку для цілей імміграції як альтернативний шлях економічної імміграції до країн ЄС. Цей період характеризується міждержавною співпрацею європейських країн у рамках Спеціальної групи з питань імміграції (Треві) та Шенгенської групи, а також з функціональними організаціями, такими як поліція, укладенням Шенгенської угоди про вільний перетин кордонів між країнами-учасницями та скасування прикордонного контролю, Маастрихтського договору з визначенням питань міграції, притулку та біженців стали частиною Третього стовпа та Амстердамського договору, де розділи Третього стовпа, що стосуються імміграції, притулку та біженців, були комунітаризовані. Зроблено висновок, що країни Європейського Союзу перебувають на четвертому етапі розвитку правового регулювання міграційного контролю, який розпочався з міграційної кризи 2014-2015 років, але ще не завершився розв’язанням тих проблем та викликів, які постали перед країнами-учасницями.

Introduction.According to scientific data, unemployed, lonely and students are most prone to procrastination. And what about teachers, in particular, higher education institutions? There is not enough data in the available literature. As practice shows, in the case of teachers, procrastination or postponement can manifest itself in the form of stress caused by failure to fully realize goals and plans vital to the individual. Negative consequences are expressed both in reduced work capacity and in acute emotional experiences of one's own failure, dissatisfaction with the results of one's work. The aim of the study .was to investigate and evaluate the level of anxiety, depression and the nature of manifestations of procrastination among teachers of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University during the period of altered psycho-emotional state during forced social distancing in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on social functioning and quality of life. Materials and methods: The survey was voluntary and anonymous. The research was approved by the Bioethics Committee of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University and conducted according to the principles of the Helsinki Declaration. We used two clinical test methods to identify emotional disturbances: the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) (Zigmond A.S. et.al.,1983; Svanborg P., 2001). In order to assess the degree of expressiveness of the propensity to postpone matters "for later" among the surveyed teachers, we created a special Google questionnaire created on the basis of data."Questionnaire to study the propensity of the individual to procrastination" (Shivari ,O.A., 2015), which is a modification of the "General Procrastination Scale" (Lay, C., 1986) and consists of two scales: "Personally conditioned procrastination scale" (Scale I) and "Situationally conditioned procrastination scale" (Scale II). Scale I indicates the general level of procrastination, and Scale II - motivational procrastination, its high indicators suggest that the questionnaire will perform some work only in the presence of motivation. In addition, in order to assess the quality of life, the data of "The Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire - Short Form (Q-LES-Q-SF)" were evaluated. (Endicott J; Rapaport MH; Clary C; Fayyad R). The statistical analysis of the results was performed using STATISTICA 7.0 software packages and the package of statistical functions of Microsoft Excel. Results and discussion: Were interviewed 214 teachers of various departments of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University: 174 (81.6%) women, 40 (18.6%) - men. 58 interviewees (27.1%) worked at theoretical departments, 156 (72.9%) – at clinical departments. The analysis of the results of the survey according to the «Personally conditioned procrastination scale» showed that 32 (14.9%) of the teachers interviewed by us have had a low, 96 (44.8%) - medium, and 86 (40.3%) - a high level of personal tendency to procrastination. Data of "Situationally conditioned procrastination scale"showed that 54 (25.2%) have had a low level of situational procrastination,76 (35.5%) - medium and 84 (39.3%) - high, respectively.Based on the results of the survey on the HADS scale, a normal level of anxiety-depressive symptoms (0-7 points on a scale) was found in 9 (15.5%) workers from the theoretical departments and in 52 (33.3%) - clinical departments. According to the data of the conducted questionnaire according "The Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire - Short Form (Q-LES-Q-SF), the least satisfied respondents were by daily functioning, present depressed mood, inability to perform housework efficiently and to spend leisure time interestingly, engage in hobbies or even perform professional duties. Conclusions. The complex of research methods made it possible to comprehensively consider procrastination as a model of the behavior of the subjects and to determine the factors influencing its occurrence during the period of changes in the psycho-emotional state caused by forced distancing in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic and to study the relationship of procrastination with the level of quality of life (from the point of view of satisfaction and enjoyment of life). The main reasons for procrastination were dominated by: lack of motivation to work; stress, as a result of uncertainty and fear of the future; laziness; limited "live" communication and an excess of virtual, external distractions. It is noteworthy that among teachers this phenomenon is not limited to academic procrastination, in most cases everything is fine in this cluster, but more often it extends to homework, interpersonal communication, social and personal life. Attention is drawn to the fact that among teachers this phenomenon is not strictly limited to academic procrastination, but extends to household tasks, interpersonal communication, social and private life.

In order to improve the quality of studying of fourth-year students of the Medical Faculty and the Foreign Citizens Training Faculty, as well as to intensify the educational process at the Department of Internal Medicine, Clinical Immunology and Allergology of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University a modern class-discussion was introduced. For a successful discussion a clear organization of the class has been proposed. It implies careful planning, clear implementation of the rules of the discussion by all its participants, compliance with certain regulations. The class-discussion consists of the following main stages: entrance testing by QR-code for quick assessment of the level of knowledge and obtaining rating indicators from individual sections of the discipline; short summary multimedia presentation on modern methods of diagnosis and principles of treatment of the diseases of a certain profile; application of the elements of role-play (simulation): students’ role-playing of the patient, family doctor, laboratory doctor, doctor of functional diagnostics, doctor-specialist, the head of the hospital with the subsequent modeling of various clinical situations. Thus, the class-discussion in the proposed form with elements of interactive learning is a versatile type of practical lesson, which increases students' ability to think analytically; develops research, communication, heuristic, and leadership skills as well as the ability to make informed decisions about the patient's further clinical route. It contributes to the consolidation and integrated application of the knowledge obtained during the study of the discipline.

Human context recognition (HCR) using sensor data is a crucial task in Context-Aware (CA) applications in domains such as healthcare and security. Supervised machine learning HCR models are trained using smartphone HCR datasets that are scripted or gathered in-the-wild. Scripted datasets are most accurate because of their consistent visit patterns. Supervised machine learning HCR models perform well on scripted datasets but poorly on realistic data. In-the-wild datasets are more realistic, but cause HCR models to perform worse due to data imbalance, missing or incorrect labels, and a wide variety of phone placements and device types. Lab-to-field approaches learn a robust data representation from a scripted, high-fidelity dataset, which is then used for enhancing performance on a noisy, in-the-wild dataset with similar labels. This research introduces Triplet-based Domain Adaptation for Context REcognition (Triple-DARE), a lab-to-field neural network method that combines three unique loss functions to enhance intra-class compactness and inter-class separation within the embedding space of multi-labeled datasets: (1) domain alignment loss in order to learn domain-invariant embeddings; (2) classification loss to preserve task-discriminative features; and (3) joint fusion triplet loss. Rigorous evaluations showed that Triple-DARE achieved 6.3% and 4.5% higher F1-score and classification, respectively, than state-of-the-art HCR baselines and outperformed non-adaptive HCR models by 44.6% and 10.7%, respectively.

Aim: to evaluate the corrective effect of a comprehensive physical therapy program on the fall-risk after fractures of the femoral neck in elderly patients with parkinsonism (due to Parkinson's disease) and frailty. Material and methods. We examined 21 elderly patients with Parkinson's disease and frailty in the recovery period after a fracture of the femoral neck. They were divided into two groups: 1 (practiced according to the principles of polyclinic rehabilitation with a predominance of the use of preformed physical factors and general principles of physical therapy) and 2 (practiced according to the developed program of physical therapy with an emphasis on functional training aimed at improving physical qualities and improving motor stereotype, primarily movement, taking into account the signs of parkinsonism). The effectiveness of the program was assessed according to the results of The Short Physical Performance Battery, Berg Balance Scale, Functional Mobility Assessment in Eldery Patients, Falls efficacy Scale International, Parkinson's Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire-39. Results. Elderly patients with parkinsonism and frailty after a fracture of the femur have a high fall-risk, impairment of domestic and social functioning, deterioration in the quality of life, which is shown by the results of all tests performed. A pathogenetically substantiated complex program of physical therapy, created on the basis of functional training, taking into account the specificity of motor manifestations of parkinsonism, revealed a statistically significant positive effect on the fall-risk compared with the general polyclinic rehabilitation program in all its aspects studied (p

Abstract Despite advances in diagnosis, surgery, and antimicrobial therapy, mortality rates associated with complicated intra-abdominal infections remain exceedingly high. The 2013 update of the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) guidelines for the management of intra-abdominal infections contains evidence-based recommendations for management of patients with intra-abdominal infections.

Abstract Despite advances in diagnosis, surgery, and antimicrobial therapy, mortality rates associated with complicated intra-abdominal infections remain exceedingly high. The World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) has designed the CIAOW study in order to describe the clinical, microbiological, and management-related profiles of both community- and healthcare-acquired complicated intra-abdominal infections in a worldwide context. The CIAOW study (Complicated Intra-Abdominal infection Observational Worldwide Study) is a multicenter observational study currently underway in 57 medical institutions worldwide. The study includes patients undergoing surgery or interventional drainage to address complicated intra-abdominal infections. This preliminary report includes all data from almost the first two months of the six-month study period. Patients who met inclusion criteria with either community-acquired or healthcare-associated complicated intra-abdominal infections (IAIs) were included in the study. 702 patients with a mean age of 49.2 years (range 18–98) were enrolled in the study. 272 patients (38.7%) were women and 430 (62.3%) were men. Among these patients, 615 (87.6%) were affected by community-acquired IAIs while the remaining 87 (12.4%) suffered from healthcare-associated infections. Generalized peritonitis was observed in 304 patients (43.3%), whereas localized peritonitis or abscesses was registered in 398 (57.7%) patients. The overall mortality rate was 10.1% (71/702). The final results of the CIAOW Study will be published following the conclusion of the study period in March 2013.

The general trend of weight gain, decreasing physical fitness and health complications in the general population is also reflected in the recruitment of new candidates. Their physical readiness is expected to be high. The aim of this study was to verify whether or not the physical condition of the soldiers entering the army during the 2000-2017 test of physical fitness actually deteriorated or not. The results for the assessed period in the monitored parameters indicate that some components of physical fitness are copying the general trend and showing a slight deterioration. Yet, in general, it can not be said that the fitness of new soldiers is declining, as some of its components show a slight increase.

Semolina is one of the most widely used kinds of finely ground cereals, which is easy to digest and assimilate. However, it consists of significant amount of heavy gluten which is not suited for people suffering from celiac diseases. Besides, the content of proteins, vitamins and microelements in semolina is comparatively poor. Quinoa is a pseudo-grain crop imported mostly from South America. Quinoa can be considered as a substitute for semolina since it is rich in vitamins, proteins, amino acids and microelements, and targeted especially to the customers suffering from celiac disease, allergic to gluten or having special dietary requirements. It is important to investigate and compare some rheological properties of quinoa and semolina in order to ensure safe and effective interchanges in the technology of cereals production. It has been found that swelling of the quinoa mixtures is higher than that of the semolina mixtures. A rise in temperature causes initial increase in volume of the dispersed phase particles followed by fast destruction of the cereal disperse systems. Viscosity of the quinoa mixtures shows a sharp rise when mass percent of the cereal exceeds 13 % while in case of semolina mixtures, the same phenomenon occurs after 16 %. A rise in viscosity is unwanted since it lowers the quality of the material used. It can be avoided to some extent by partial substitution of semolina with quinoa as 1:0.8.

Abstract Emergency repair of complicated abdominal wall hernias may be associated with worsen outcome and a significant rate of postoperative complications. There is no consensus on management of complicated abdominal hernias. The main matter of debate is about the use of mesh in case of intestinal resection and the type of mesh to be used. Wound infection is the most common complication encountered and represents an immense burden especially in the presence of a mesh. The recurrence rate is an important topic that influences the final outcome. A World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) Consensus Conference was held in Bergamo in July 2013 with the aim to define recommendations for emergency repair of abdominal wall hernias in adults. This document represents the executive summary of the consensus conference approved by a WSES expert panel. In 2016, the guidelines have been revised and updated according to the most recent available literature.

The article deals with the questions of modern aspects of higher medical education in Ukraine, the importance of tasks of the higher medical education, prominent aspects of students’ education, necessity for introduction of bioethical principles in the pedagogical process, spiritual revival in students, teaching responsibility in students and doctors in daily activities and in the everyday life.

Abstract The CIAO Study is a multicenter observational study currently underway in 66 European medical institutions over the course of a six-month study period (January-June 2012). This preliminary report overviews the findings of the first half of the study, which includes all data from the first three months of the six-month study period. Patients with either community-acquired or healthcare-associated complicated intra-abdominal infections (IAIs) were included in the study. 912 patients with a mean age of 54.4 years (range 4–98) were enrolled in the study during the first three-month period. 47.7% of the patients were women and 52.3% were men. Among these patients, 83.3% were affected by community-acquired IAIs while the remaining 16.7% presented with healthcare-associated infections. Intraperitoneal specimens were collected from 64.2% of the enrolled patients, and from these samples, 825 microorganisms were collectively identified. The overall mortality rate was 6.4% (58/912). According to univariate statistical analysis of the data, critical clinical condition of the patient upon hospital admission (defined by severe sepsis and septic shock) as well as healthcare-associated infections, non-appendicular origin, generalized peritonitis, and serious comorbidities such as malignancy and severe cardiovascular disease were all significant risk factors for patient mortality. White Blood Cell counts (WBCs) greater than 12,000 or less than 4,000 and core body temperatures exceeding 38°C or less than 36°C by the third post-operative day were statistically significant indicators of patient mortality.

The CIAOW study (Complicated intra-abdominal infections worldwide observational study) is a multicenter observational study underwent in 68 medical institutions worldwide during a six-month study period (October 2012-March 2013). The study included patients older than 18 years undergoing surgery or interventional drainage to address complicated intra-abdominal infections (IAIs). 1898 patients with a mean age of 51.6 years (range 18-99) were enrolled in the study. 777 patients (41%) were women and 1,121 (59%) were men. Among these patients, 1,645 (86.7%) were affected by community-acquired IAIs while the remaining 253 (13.3%) suffered from healthcare-associated infections. Intraperitoneal specimens were collected from 1,190 (62.7%) of the enrolled patients. 827 patients (43.6%) were affected by generalized peritonitis while 1071 (56.4%) suffered from localized peritonitis or abscesses. The overall mortality rate was 10.5% (199/1898). According to stepwise multivariate analysis (PR = 0.005 and PE = 0.001), several criteria were found to be independent variables predictive of mortality, including patient age (OR = 1.1; 95%CI = 1.0-1.1; p < 0.0001), the presence of small bowel perforation (OR = 2.8; 95%CI = 1.5-5.3; p < 0.0001), a delayed initial intervention (a delay exceeding 24 hours) (OR = 1.8; 95%CI = 1.5-3.7; p < 0.0001), ICU admission (OR = 5.9; 95%CI = 3.6-9.5; p < 0.0001) and patient immunosuppression (OR = 3.8; 95%CI = 2.1-6.7; p < 0.0001).

Emergency repair of complicated abdominal hernias is associated with poor prognosis and a high rate of post-operative complications. A World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) Consensus Conference was held in Bergamo in July 2013, during the 2nd Congress of the World Society of Emergency Surgery with the goal of defining recommendations for emergency repair of abdominal wall hernias in adults. This document represents the executive summary of the consensus conference approved by a WSES expert panel.

Introduction Groin lipoma is a rare condition. Such localization may lead to erroneous interpretation of inguinal hernia diagnosis. In case of incorrect diagnosis, there is clinically high risk for development of intraoperative complications. Methods The medical history of 70-year old female patient P., who has been hospitalized at Surgical Department No.1 of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (Surgical Department of Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital), was processed retrospectively. Result Medical case history totals approximately 20 years. Examination in the right groin revealed a tumor falling to the right labia lip: soft, elastic, moderately painful, passive and active reduction into the abdominal cavity was impossible, and the “cough impulse” symptom was negative. CT correctly diagnosed giant right groin lipoma, which was intraoperatively confirmed. Conclusion Lipoma in the groin may be treated as inguinal hernia. Thus, for the accurate verification of correct diagnosis, it is necessary to perform a follow-up examination involving computer tomography (CT) and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI).
