Large-caliber gun barrels are coated, on their internal surface, by hard and refractory metallic layers. The thermophysical properties of such coatings are generally very different of bulk materials ones, and liable to evolve following the thermal cyclings. Nevertheless, the knowledge of these properties is necessary for modeling the gun barrels behavior. In the present work, a photothermal microanalysis method has been used to measure the local thermal diffusivity within such a coating. The periodic excitation is localized on a micrometer-scale spot and the temperature evolution in the thermally excited zone is monitored by photoreflection on a spot with similar size. Local thermal properties are identified from thermal transfer function analysis, i.e., phase-lag evolution versus frequency. Results obtained on an aged chromium coating, on which several local diffusivity measurements have been undertaken along the depth, are presented. The diffusivity is higher near the surface than toward the interior of the coating, which has undergone less important heating during the gun lifetime. Rationale: Central neuropathic pain resulting from spinal cord injury is notoriously debilitating and difficult to treat with few currently available treatments. A novel molecule with intrathecal administration: Ziconotide has been approved for treatment of refractory neuropathic pain in general. It acts as a presynaptic calcium channel blocker. A pilot study has shown its potential in SCI neuropathic pain patients., Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the long-term (6 months) efficacy of chronic intrathecal ziconotide for the treatment of neuropathic SCI pain., Study Design: Multicenter, Randomized, Comparative, Placebo controlled, Double blind clinical trial, with a crossover of random alternated periods of 6 months (placebo or ITZ) for a total of 15 months including a total of 44 patients., Study Population: • Patients with SCI of various etiologies exhibiting neuropathic pain refractory to non-invasive treatments. • > 18 years., Intervention: Intrathecal administration of ziconotide via an implanted pump., Study Outcomes: Primary study outcome Difference in pain intensity for all patients between effective treatment and placebo periods. Although mesophotic coral ecosystems account for approximately 80% of coral reefs, they remain largely unexplored due to their challenging accessibility. The acoustic richness within reefs has led scientists to consider passive acoustic monitoring as a reliable method for studying both altiphotic and mesophotic coral reefs. We investigated the relationship between benthic invertebrate sounds (1.5-22.5 kHz), depth, and benthic cover composition, key ecological factors that determine differences between altiphotic and mesophotic reefs. Diel patterns of snaps and peak frequencies were also explored at different depths to assess variations in biorhythms. Acoustic recorders were deployed at 20 m, 60 m, and 120 m depths across six islands in French Polynesia. The results indicated that depth is the primary driver of differences in broadband transient sound (BTS) soundscapes, with sound intensity decreasing as depth increases. At 20-60 m, sounds were louder at night. At 120 m depth, benthic activity rhythms exhibited low or highly variable levels of diel variation, likely a consequence of reduced solar irradiation. On three islands, a peculiar peak in the number of BTS was observed every day between 7 and 9 PM at 120 m, suggesting the presence of cyclic activities of a specific species. Our results support the existence of different invertebrate communities or distinct behaviors, particularly in deep mesophotic reefs. Introduction: The aim of the study was to identify risk factors related to human errors in the preparation of anticancer drugs in order to improve the pharmaceutical process by setting corrective actions., Method: Risk factors which could increase the probability of error were identified: daily workload, workload on the previous day and subcontractors' workload, time slot of the preparation, understaffing, incidents which could affect workflow, individual experience of technicians and cleanrooms layout. Drug reconstitution or complex fabrications were also considered as risk factors. We used univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to screen for correlation between risks and errors., Result: Among 11 278 preparations analyzed, 115 were non-compliant. Univariate analysis shows significant variables: individual experience of technicians, technicians working in the same cleanrooms and technicians' rotations. 2 technicians are significantly associated with a higher risk of error and 5 with a lower risk. The multivariate analysis confirmed the conclusions of the univariate., Discussion: As expected, time slot of the manufacture, cleanrooms layout and some technicians increase the risk of error. Surprisingly, technicians' experience led to increase the risk. This study is a first approach to evaluate the human error aspect in non-compliant preparations, in order to optimize security of antineoplastic drugs preparations.

Monitoring the biodiversity of key habitats and understanding the drivers across spatial scales is essential for preserving ecosystem functions and associated services. Coralligenous reefs are threatened marine biodiversity hotspots that are challenging to monitor. As fish sounds reflect biodiversity in other habitats, we unveiled the biogeography of coralligenous reef sounds across the north-western Mediterranean using data from 27 sites covering 2000 km and 3 regions over a 3-year period. We assessed how acoustic biodiversity is related to habitat parameters and environmental status. We identified 28 putative fish sound types, which is up to four times as many as recorded in other Mediterranean habitats. 40% of these sounds are not found in other coastal habitats, thus strongly related to coralligenous reefs. Acoustic diversity differed between geographical regions. Ubiquitous sound types were identified, including sounds from top-predator species and others that were more specifically related to the presence of ecosystem engineers (red coral, gorgonians), which are key players in maintaining habitat function. The main determinants of acoustic community composition were depth and percentage coverage of coralligenous outcrops, suggesting that fish-related acoustic communities exhibit bathymetric stratification and are related to benthic reef assemblages. Multivariate analysis also revealed that acoustic communities can reflect different environmental states. This study presents the first large-scale map of acoustic fish biodiversity providing insights into the ichthyofauna that is otherwise difficult to assess because of reduced diving times. It also highlights the potential of passive acoustics in providing new aspects of the correlates of biogeographical patterns of this emblematic habitat relevant for monitoring and conservation., (© 2021.
