En este trabajo se presentan los resultados de un estudio basado en la percepción de los jóvenes ante el cambio climático. Para ello se tomó como referencia los contenidos y competencias que figuran en la ficha docente de la asignatura relacionados con la geografía física para futuros docentes de educación primaria. Se realizó una intervención didáctica a un grupo de 79 hombres y mujeres que no cuentan con formación previa relacionada con los conceptos de sostenibilidad y cambio climático. Fue utilizada la metodología de aprendizaje basado en problemas puesta en práctica en tres sesiones de seminarios prácticos en los que se trataron las consecuencias del clima en la salud. Se obtuvo información del aprendizaje a través de un cuestionario elaborado ad hoc, y posteriormente se realizó un análisis de los datos obtenidos de carácter mixto, con un predominio de los datos cuantitativos sobre los cualitativos. Los resultados muestran que la mayor parte de los jóvenes aseguran sentir impotencia y entienden que el mundo sufrirá graves consecuencias causadas por el cambio climático. El 74% identifica la relación existente entre el cambio climático y la salud; y aseguran que son numerosos los factores que influyen en nuestro organismo una vez realizada la experiencia. Estos resultados alertan de la visión pesimista de los estudiantes a la hora de afrontar el cambio climático, proporcionando claves para mejorar su enseñanza, como la necesaria sensibilización y conocimientos relacionados con el medioambiente.

Recent years have seen growing interest in the role of selective public secondary schools as places of state-funded privilege production. Students' experiences in and perceptions of these schools are still under-researched. Focusing on the transition to Gymnasium, highly selective public secondary schools in Zurich, this article analyses how students are addressed by principals, teachers, and education policies and how they perceive the Gymnasium and its students. Drawing on a 13-month ethnography with eight students, the article shows that students learn to see the Gymnasia as stellar schools for hard-working and intelligent students who have earned their privileges. Students play an important role in coproducing and legitimizing their privileged status in the educational field by drawing on the notion of merit. Most students distanced themselves from the non-Gymnasium “other”, labeling them as less hard-working and less intelligent. These processes ultimately contribute to a hierarchization and division of Zurich's secondary schooling landscape.

Amphibians are globally threatened due to pollution, infection diseases, invasive species, habitat loss and climate change. Rising temperatures and shifts in precipitation regimes can have a major impact on the persistence of amphibian populations, especially in semi-arid regions. In this study, we used a long term time series spanning 34 years in central Spain to evaluate the effect of three climatic variables on the reproductive success of the natterjack toad (Epidalea calamita) in temporary ponds. Our results showed that reproductive success was only possible for seven years (20.6%). We found that reproductive success is positively related to the accumulated spring precipitation, while negatively related to mean spring temperature and spring evaporation. This study highlights the importance of conserving and restoring amphibian breeding habitats in order to minimize the potential impacts of climate change and habitat loss.

تعیین وسعت فرسایش کناره رودخانه‌ای خاک و نمایش آن به‌صورت نقشه در محیط GIS، در مدیریت بهینه از منابع آب و خاک موثر است. هدف تحقیق حاضر تعیین محدوده فرسایش رودخانه‌ای از روی عکس‌های هوایی، مدل‌سازی رگرسیونی و تعیین عوامل موثر بر توسعه فرسایش کنار رودخانه‌ای با استفاده از داده‌های مکانی مختلف فیزیوگرافی، هیدرولوژی، زمین‌شناسی و محیطی در بازه‌هایی از رودخانه بالخلوچای در استان اردبیل است. ابتدا پارامترهای موثر در ایجاد فرسایش کنار‌ رودخانه‌ای موجود در منطقه شامل عوامل توپوگرافی، خاک و زمین، هیدرولوژی، تغییرات کاربری محاسبه شدند. در این راستا، متغیرهای مورد مطالعه در چهار مقطع زمانی 1334 با استفاده از عکس‌های هوایی، سال 1359 با استفاده از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای TM، سال‌های 1389 و 1392 با تصاویر Google Earth تهیه شد و سطح موثر فرسایش رودخانه‌ای مورد مقایسه قرار گرفت. سپس با استفاده از متغیرهای مستقل (شامل عوامل توپوگرافی، هیدرولوژی، فرسایش پذیری خاک و عوامل زمینی) و سطح موثر فرسایش رودخانه‌ای به‌عنوان متغیر وابسته، تجزیه و تحلیل رگرسیونی چند متغیره در نرم‌افزار SPSS انجام و مدل‌های مناسب برآورد مقدار فرسایش کنار رودخانه‌ای مختلف به‌دست آمدند. بر اساس نتایج تحلیل رگرسیونی، پارامترهای محیط بازه، دبی اوج، مساحت تحت کشت زراعت آبی، زمان تمرکز، پوشش مرتع و مناطق مسکونی نقش مهم‌تری در تشدید فرسایش کنار رودخانه‌ای داشته اند.

This article presents a spatially sensitive approach to the narratives of transformation processes, employing oral history to explore the connection between loss, emotions, and memory in the context of changing shipyard work in East Germany since 1989. The former place of work, the shipyard, serves as a central place where loss, emotions and memory condense. The method of oral history enables the subjective narration of past experiences and forms the basis for recording and analyzing narratives of experiences. Empirically, the article draws on oral history interviews with former shipyard workers to gain deeper insights into their memories, experiences and the emotional impact of the loss or impending loss of their jobs. This research contributes to understanding the social and emotional effects of transformation processes, emphasizing the importance of oral history in incorporating the subjective experiences of those affected in geographical research.

Healthcare is an activity of great humanitarian and social importance. Good health is a right of every human being, an asset and a source of economic and social stability. The health status of the population is crucial for reducing poverty and at the same time contributes to sustainable territorial development. Despite the established principles of accessibility and equality in the use of medical assistance and the existence of a valid health card, our research has shown that the population has different access to facilities and centers for medical assistance at the regional and local level. The localization and concentration of healthcare facilities and all other elements of the healthcare system in the studied Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) 3 area—the Kyustendil region, Bulgaria—are tied to the largest ities in the region and the administrative centers of the municipalities. This poses a problem for the population from the remote settlements of the district, which has considerable difficulties in obtaining medical care even in emergency cases and in accessing specialized hospitals, laboratories, etc. The geographical characteristics of the area have a significant impact on the time needed to cover the distance between the villages and the towns where the health facilities are located. Hence the specific case study to solve this problem at the local and regional level. The conducted research tries to solve this case study, which was made in the studied area, but is also relevant for many other areas in Bulgaria. It is important to note that the Kyustendil region has very good indicators of health infrastructure and supply of health professionals, which make it one of the leading places in Bulgaria. However, part of the population of the district has very difficult access to the healthcare system, which is the main reason for the higher premature mortality due to diseases, especially among the population living in the villages. An in-depth spatial analysis of the territorial location of all elements of the health system and the provision of specialist doctors was carried out. The results obtained are visualized through graphics and a map created with GIS software.

Climate-aware urban environments pose a significant imperative to obtain thermally comfortable outdoor areas. The present study addresses the optimization of urban block morphology in Guelma City, Algeria, to enhance thermal performance in a semi-arid climate. Using in-situ measurements and simulation generated by the ENVI-met simple forcing scheme, the impact f urban morphology on the variation of outdoor comfort factors, including air temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed arameters, is identified. The conducted investigation illustrates building configuration, orientation, and street canyon geometry as key indices affecting thermal comfort. Results pointed out urban green cover’s role in mitigating heat island effects. In conclusion, the study underscored the significance of an interconnected analysis of urban patterns and heir correlated influence on urban microclimate for achieving thermally comfortable outdoor environments.

This paper draws on current discussions in digital geography that emphasize the political and theoretical role of glitches. While we sympathize with the basic assumptions of this discussion and also find it helpful to connect these to older discussions around digital infrastructures, we propose an opposing perspective with this text. Using the example of Internet infrastructures, we focus on the continuous and painstaking work of making infrastructures invisible and preventing glitches. We are particularly interested in the production of resilience and focus from a geographical perspective on the rationalities of redundancy and addressing latency.

The high carbon monoxide content in the urban atmosphere is one of the most important indicators of poor air quality in megacities such as Moscow. This study is to evaluate the importance of wind speed, air temperature, and relative air humidity for predicting the concentrations of carbon monoxide for the day ahead using a simplified one-dimensional quasistationary statistical model. It is shown that the concentration of carbon monoxide in the Moscow atmosphere is determined by a combination of internal (previous days CO concentration) and external (meteorological conditions) factors. The variation of carbon monoxide concentration at one station differs from the variation at another station due to the differences in local conditions. Taking into account wind speed and air temperature increases the predictive value of the onedimensional quasi-stationary statistical model for most of the stations. In contrast to wind, relative air humidity decreases the predictive value of the model for most of the stations. This means that meteorological factors considered in this study could have different effects on predicting carbon monoxide concentration in the case of Moscow. The data from the Balchug weather station, located in the city center, offers a more accurate CO concentration forecast for most Moscow stations compared to the VDNKh weather station. For a more complete description of the influence of meteorological conditions on the predicted low concentration of gases, it is useful to take into account the model wind direction, surface air pressure, and the intensity of mixing in the urban boundary layer.

The lack of planning and feasibility of controlling actions over land use and land cover lead to relationship problems between the support capacity that environmental systems present and their current use. The goal of this study is to figure out how much land can be used based on its natural and physical features and to find problems that come up because of the heavy use in the Formoso River watershed. It is one of the most recognized Brazilian watersheds, due to its turistic, karst, and environmental characteristics. The methodology consists in handling and generating data in a GIS environment by performing a synthesis map, as well as adopting geoprocessing criteria and techniques in the field to validate the collected data. The results indicate that the watershed presents large areas without conflicts due to its numerous conservation units. However, major conflicts are identified in other areas, affecting the balance and dynamics of the landscape and its water resources. Such conflicts arise because soybean crops advance in fragile and karst areas. The highest concentration of confit is only 1.61%, particularly near the Formoso River marsh. Therefore, the present work considers a methodology that assesses the capacity of use through a method that has produced a summary document that is applicable and compatible with the karst system.

The Central Chernozem region of Russia has undergone significant changes in socio-demographic processes over the past half-century. The aim of this study was to establish the impact of metropolization on the demographic transformation of sparsely populated rural settlements for the Central Chernozem region and to develop a demographic forecast for 2030. The study’s goals were to (1) determine the scale of regional metropolises; (2) identify the impact of metropolization on the quantitative indicators of sparsely populated rural settlements; (3) establish trends in their transformation; and (4) compile a medium-term demographic forecast for the Central Chernozem region. The set objectives were achieved by integrating methods for spatial-temporal and comparative geographical analysis, statistical methods, and a combination of official statistics with sociological methods. Analysis of the level of urbanization of the regions in modern conditions (20th and 21st centuries) showed that, although this process was and remained below the national average, it did not prevent the formation of regional metropolises (Belgorod, Stary Oskol, Kursk, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Tambov) as an obvious outcome of urbanization processes. A regional pattern of degradation of the network of rural settlements, mainly the smallest and small in terms of population (1-25, 26-50 people), which make up over one third of all settlements in the Central Chernozem region of Russia, was determined. A stable long-term trend of growth in the number of abandoned villages and hamlets was established. Between the last two All-Russian population censuses (11 years), their number increased by 45%. The forecasting results obtained confirm the established patterns in the medium-term trend of “compression” of rural settlement around regional metropolis (with some exceptions). The medium-term demographic forecast showed that population concentration in metropolitan areas and further socio-demographic desertification in peripheral areas will continue with growing territorial differentiation. The obtained results of the study of the transformation of settlement systems of the Central Chernozem region as a result of the metropolization of regional centers can help government institutions in strategic planning of territorial development.

Overexploitation and climate change have threatened the availability and sustenance of groundwater resources. A proper understanding of the regional distribution of groundwater is crucial to ensure long-term water security. The present study aims to identify the groundwater potential zones in the Lakhimpur district of Assam using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) in combination with geospatial technologies. The occurrence of groundwater in the region was determined by several factors including geomorphology, lithology, slope, distance from the river, drainage density, lineament density, rainfall, curvature, soil, land use, land cover, Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and topographic wetness index (TWI). These factors organized as thematic layers were utilized to generate a groundwater potential zones (GWPZ) map in the GIS environment. The AHP, an effective decision-making technique, was adopted to assign weights to each thematic layer corresponding to their relative importance in influencing groundwater availability. The GWPZ map prepared using the weighted overlay techniques was categorized into three classes: good, moderate, and poor. The result revealed that the good potential zone comprises 1909.41 km2 (65.12%), moderate 1018.25 km2 (34.72%) and the poor zone comprises 4.22 km2 (0.14%) of the total geographical area. The obtained results of 73.33% (Overall accuracy), 0.708 (ROC-AUC), and 0.50 mbgl (groundwater level fluctuation) between pre-monsoon and post-monsoon prove that the model has performed satisfactorily in identifying groundwater potential zones. The findings provide a framework for the effective exploration and management of groundwater resources, ensuring their future availability in the region.

Atmospheric precipitation acts as a significant pathway for pollutants from the atmosphere to the Earth’s surface, and analyzing urban precipitation data on intensity, fallout regime, transfer patterns, and solid particle content helps identify pollution sources. For the first time in the Moscow megacity, the levels of soluble forms of potentially hazardous elements (PHEs) in atmospheric precipitation were studied during the whole summer season of May–September 2019. The concentrations of Al, As, B, Ba, Be, Bi, Cd, Ce, Co, Cu, Fe, La, Li, Mn, Ni, P, Pb, Rb, Sb, Sn, Sr, and Zn were determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and atomic emission spectroscopy methods. The research underscores the crucial role of atmospheric precipitation in washing PHEs out of the atmosphere. In May and September, concentrations of PHEs surpass the warm-season average. Notable contamination in May stems from elevated traffic during vacations, extensive burning of plant debris and wood, and pollen transport. Summer months are characterized by reduced forest and agricultural fires, traffic, and increased vegetation, leading to lower PHE concentrations, especially in July, with typical amount of precipitation contributing to pollutant dispersion. Elevated PHE levels in September are observed due to increased traffic load, biomass burning, and the expansion of unvegetated soil areas. Rainwater is enriched with Sb, Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, B, Bi, P, and Sr, sourced from vehicle emissions, soil particles, industry, construction dust, biomass burning, and forest fires. Moderate enrichment with Ba, Mn, Ni, Co, and Sn also occurs episodically. Regression analysis highlights solid particles’ role as a major PHE source in rainwater, with the longer antecedent dry periods and the higher acidity level of rain intensifying the accumulation of PHEs. Long-range transport plays a lesser role, with Southern and Northern Europe, Western Siberia, and the central part of European Russia contributing meaningfully.

The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the impact of global and regional events on the dynamics of tourist flows. The primary reasons for the decrease in inbound tourist flows have been identified and categorized into three main groups: military-political class, economic class, and natural-technological class. Additionally, a hybrid class was identified, to which COVID-19 was assigned. The article is based on causal and comparative analysis, utilizing statistical data on tourist flows provided by the World Bank and UNWTO, as well as an assessment of similar patterns among countries worldwide. The main characteristics of tourist flows from 1995 to 2022 have been identified, pinpointing leaders among countries in increasing and decreasing the number of tourists per year. During the study, countries with similar patterns of tourist flow dynamics were identified. It was concluded that relying solely on quantitative analysis has limited applicability in identifying these patterns. Therefore, it is recommended that quantitative analysis be complemented with expert assessments for a more comprehensive understanding. The basic strategies for responding to the identified classes of causes were outlined. The research will benefit tourism professionals, governmental authorities, and researchers in socio-economic and political disciplines.

Land cover changes and wildfires have had an increasing impact on the Ogan Komering Ilir Peatland ecosystems in South Sumatra, Indonesia. This study aims to understand the peatland land cover and burn severity dynamics from 2015 to 2023. The random forest method was applied to classify land cover, while the differenced Normalized Burn Ratio (dNBR) was used for mapping fire severity. We combined various satellite data to classify land cover, consisting of Landsat-8, Sentinel-1, and Sentinel-2. Landsat-8 or Sentinel-2 images were also used for the dNBR calculation. We revealed complex climate, human, and restoration interactions in land cover and burn severity fluctuations over 273,799 hectares of the study area from 2015 to 2023. The 2015 El Niño-induced drought led to 21,754 fire hotspots and 2.01% of the area in high-severity burns. In 2016, it reduced tree cover by 10.18% and increased bare/sparse vegetation by 6.11%. The 2019 El Niño event led to 7,893 fire hotspots, lessening unburned areas and worsening burns. Due to the extreme effects of the 2015 drought, restoration efforts between 2016 and 2020 significantly decreased fire hotspots in 2016. Tree cover stabilized, reaching 48.46% by 2020, whereas unburned areas rose to 69.46% in 2018, showing good recovery and lower fire severity. In 2021-2023, fire hotspots were modest relative to El Niño years but increased in 2023. After 2020, tree cover decreased, but other land cover classes fluctuated. Therefore, continual monitoring and adaptive management are critical for reducing negative consequences and increasing ecosystem resilience.

The level of pollution of lake sediments located in the city of Murmansk (Russia) with petroleum hydrocarbons was studied. The most urban lakes can be classified as slightly polluted, representing the maximum acceptable risk for human health and ecosystems; Lake Yuzhnoe – as moderately polluted with a negative impact on the aquatic environment, and Lake Ledovoe located near the highway, gas station, and car service, – as dangerously polluted, posing a threat to human health and requiring remediation. The background content of organic compounds identified as petroleum hydrocarbons in the sediments of Murmansk lakes ranges from 76 to 307 mg TPH/kg. High background concentrations of hydrocarbons can be associated with a large amount of organic matter in the sediments of lakes. The standards for the content of hydrocarbons in sediments, developed for other regions, give an ambiguous assessment of their content in the sediments of lakes in Murmansk. It is not entirely correct to use the background content of hydrocarbons in the sediments of lakes in other regions, which differ in particle size distribution, content of organic matter, and chemical composition, to assess the degree of pollution. Additional research is needed to determine the content of hydrocarbons in the sediments of background lakes in the Murmansk region and to develop standards for the content of hydrocarbons in the bottom sediments of Arctic cities.

The geographical position of the region, ethnic composition, acceleration of the process of polarization among rural settlements, and other factors increase the relevance of the research. The subject of the research is the study of rural settlement problems, and the object of the research is the villages and ethnic minorities of the Balakan district. The study aims to reveal the modern problems of the settlement of ethnic minorities and the formation of rural agglomerations, to study the causes of the emptying of some villages, and to prepare a rural development model to prevent the problems. To conduct research, the literature and statistical materials were analyzed, as well as cartographic, comparative analysis, SWOT, and modelling methods were used. Moreover, a field investigation was conducted in the research area. It was revealed that although a majority of the rural population settles in villages with a high demographic potential, villages with a weak demographic potential, due to their higher number, play a major role in the settlement system. Moreover, some villages form rural agglomerations, while some of them lose their population due to socioeconomic challenges. Due to the intense migration processes, some villages have turned into endangered villages (Mazimustu, Goyrujuluk), and even some villages are on the brink of extinction (Bayrambina, Mazimchay, Abjit). Studying the regulation of rural settlement in the region is of practical importance in terms of ensuring the equal development of the region, ensuring the security of the borders, and protecting ethnic minorities. However, there is still a need for serious research in this field.

In the context of globalization, the reconstruction of material spaces and the evolution of social relations have accelerated the loss of emotions in traditional villages. Intangible heritage can play an important role in the emotional maintenance of traditional villages as an emotional carrier for its residents. Previous studies have been less involved in the synergistic relationship between the interactive game of power subjects and the evolution of emotions in the practice of intangible heritage. Particularly, research on the evolution of the emotional exchange mode is insufficient. Taking the Dong minority chorus of Huangdu Village as an example, this study adopts qualitative research methods, such as semi-structured interviews and participant observation, to construct an analytical framework of "daily life practice-emotional exchange", and to deeply explore the evolution process and motivational mechanism of the emotional exchange mode in the daily life practice of traditional village residents. The study found that: 1) According to the changes in the subject and relationship, motive and mode, resource and situation, perception and experience of emotional exchange in the natural, livelihood, institutional, and spiritual dimensions, the daily life practice of Huangdu Village can be divided into four stages: primitive equilibrium, passive compromising, active resisting, and regenerating. 2) In the process of intangible cultural heritage practices, the manipulation of capital and the suppression of power have broken the original balance of Huangdu Village, and the division of power and status among subjects has squeezed the living spaces of local residents, forcing them to become involved in power struggles. They resist the control of the "other" by means of physical empowerment and restatement of the local subjectivity, and ultimately strike a balance of power within the village. In the daily practice of intangible cultural heritage, the mode of residents' emotional exchange changes from reciprocity to general negotiation and production modes. 3) Emotional exchanges in traditional villages are produced during power struggles between residents and other subjects. When power is balanced, residents master the discourse of intangible cultural heritage and produce positive emotions such as attachment and belonging. When residents are suppressed by power and capital, they gradually lose discourse and produce negative emotions, such as a sense of crisis and separation. 4) The evolution of emotional exchange modes in the daily practices of traditional village residents is systematic. The evolution of the outer system pushes the kernel system to adapt, and the driving, pulling, and supporting forces promote the synergistic evolution of "daily life―emotional exchange―intangible cultural heritage practice" in Huangdu village. The evolution of emotional exchange patterns during the practice of the Dong minority chorus in Huangdu Village was an inevitable process for reconstructing the cultural subjectivity of local residents in the context of tourism development. Exploring emotional exchange patterns at different stages of daily life practices can help understand the developmental law of traditional villages and provide useful references for its emotional governance and sustainable development.

In the context of China's urbanization and migration transformation, the phenomenon and trends of job-housing separation have shown new dynamics, necessitating a systematic review of research on this topic in Chinese cities. This study uses CiteSpace to conduct a quantitative analysis of literature on job-housing separation in China from 2000 to 2022. The review is structured according to stages of urban development, with a focus on summarizing and evaluating current research hotspots, themes, and methodologies. The findings indicate that the job-residence separation at different stages of population mobility has different characteristics. Firstly, the research area of job-housing separation has expanded from first-tier cities to second- and third-tier cities, reflecting the new phenomenon of population flow and transition in China's urbanization process. Second, the research perspective has gradually shifted from the macro level to the micro level, paying more attention to the job-housing separation. At the same time, the study actively adopts advanced technologies such as machine learning to process large-scale migration data, and combines multidisciplinary theories such as geography, urbanism, and transportation to conduct in-depth analyses.. Based on this comprehensive review, several key points are identified: (1) In the context of migration transformation, research needs to focus more on the new characteristics of job-housing separation and its spatial correlations from a lifecycle perspective. This involves investigating the social foundations of job-housing separation across multiple scales, including the urban-rural divide, intercity dynamics, and intracity variations. (2) Current research has not adequately explored the evolution of job-housing separation. It is necessary to incorporate life cycle theory to unify each stage of job-housing separation into a dynamic research framework. (3) The use of machine learning techniques should be encouraged to process large-scale migration data. Interdisciplinary approaches, combining geography, urban studies, and transportation, are essential to explore the mechanisms of job-housing separation more comprehensively. This will enable better analysis and prediction of trends, supporting urban planning and the optimization of transportation infrastructure. (4) Integrating migration theories with lifecycle theory can further illuminate the interrelationships between job-housing separation and migration behavior. Research should focus on the impacts of migration on job-housing separation and explore how to address these issues in the context of migration, providing better planning recommendations for urban development. In conclusion, multidimensional and interdisciplinary research is essential to fully understand the dynamics of job-housing separation within the broader context of China's urbanization and migration transformation. By incorporating theories and methodologies from various disciplines, a deeper understanding of the mechanisms and influencing factors can lead to more effective policymaking and sustainable urban development.

The revitalization of Overseas Chinese villages in China is closely tied to the preservation and utilization of their architectural heritage, which serves as a crucial tourist attraction. However, existing research has inadequately explored the multifaceted role that Overseas Chinese architectural heritage plays in the rejuvenation of these communities. Based on a comprehensive 45-day field investigation across 20 Overseas Chinese villages, this study methodically selected five representative villages in Taishan City, Guangdong Province, and classified them into three categories based on the impetus of human engagement: self-organized, dual-drive, and multi-linkage. Using the actor-network theory as a framework, this study yielded the following findings: (1) The three types of Overseas Chinese villages exhibit distinct characteristics in the production and key actors associated with Overseas Chinese heritage. First, in the self-organized villages, the living and symbolic overseas Chinese property is the primary attraction of discrete tourism, and the revitalization efforts cater to the life and emotional sustenance of villagers and Overseas Chinese community. Key actors include villagers, Overseas Chinese, and the Overseas Chinese Federation, which plays an important role in coordinating efforts both locally and abroad. Second, in the dual-drive villages, Overseas Chinese heritage is leveraged by local governments as part of demonstration projects. The village committees actively cooperate to promote these villages as model tourism destinations, creating brand identity for government efforts. Village committees and the government are the key actors in this type of Overseas Chinese village. Third, in the multi-linkage villages, the productive and profitable overseas Chinese products, developed and operated as mass tourist attractions, drive economic growth for various stakeholders. Enterprises and their operators play a key role here, managing and capitalizing on these economic opportunities, ensuring that the development of the village meets the evolving demand for economic benefits. (2) The difficulties faced by self-organized, dual-drive, and multi-linked Overseas Chinese villages are "the struggle for the right to speak in construction," "the diaspora of Overseas Chinese property ownership," and "the conflict over Overseas Chinese property income rights," respectively. A critical factor in the revitalization process is the role Overseas Chinese brokers, particularly in dual-drive multi-linkage villages. These brokers bridge the gap between various stakeholders, including the government, entrepreneurs, villagers, experts and scholars, Overseas Chinese relatives, overseas Chinese families, and the complex of the multiple identities above. The article points out to the importance of paying attention to the development and utilization chain of Overseas Chinese resources, which is "Overseas Chinese-Overseas Chinese property brokers-actual users of Overseas Chinese houses." Future research should focus on evolving the role of Overseas Chinese heritage as a discrete tourist attraction, the needs of Overseas Chinese people as tourists, and the dynamics of power conflicts related to property rights in Overseas Chinese houses.

The lagoon slopes of coral atolls, which connect reef flats to lagoon basins, are key geomorphic zones where sediments are physically sorted and transported. These areas are essential for understanding post-reef sedimentary processes and the broader evolutionary dynamics of atolls. However, the influence of the microtopographic features of lagoon slopes on sediment grain size distribution remains unclear. Sediment grain size is a sensitive indicator of environmental and climatic changes and provides valuable insights into sediment transport patterns and depositional environment reconstructions. The spatial distribution of grain size is influenced by the proximity to sediment sources, material availability, and surrounding geomorphological conditions. This study focused on the lagoon slopes of the Shuquan and Jiaojian Reefs in the Nansha Islands, where surface sediment samples were collected and analyzed for grain size, along with depth data and underwater microtopography. The results indicated the following: (1) Surface sediments in the lagoon slopes of the Shuquan and Jiaojian Reefs are predominantly composed of sand-sized particles, with minimal silt and fine gravel content. Specifically, Shuquan Reef sediments comprised 94.55% sand-sized particles, 4.18% fine gravel, and 0.61% silt; the S1-S1' transect contained 93.96% sand, 4.04% fine gravel, and 1.65% silt; and the S2-S2' transect consisted of 91.73% sand, 6.84% fine gravel, and 1.17% silt. (2) The grain size characteristics of lagoon sands were primarily governed by the proximity to sediment sources and hydrodynamic conditions. A significant negative correlation was observed between median grain size and water depth, with grain size decreasing as depth increased. Most lagoon sands originated from reef flats or lagoon slopes, reflecting the diminishing sorting capacity of oceanic wave energy as it moves toward the lagoon center. The grain size distribution curves of lagoon sands are generally unimodal or bimodal, with a trend toward negative skewness. In deeper waters, the curves became sharper, indicating a transition from low-energy to high-energy depositional environments, where finer particles were replaced by coarser ones. Geomorphological changes within the lagoon, particularly in the transition zone from the lagoon slope to the inner reef flat, played a critical role in the grain size distribution. The bimodal distribution in Shuquan Reef was mainly attributed to coarse particles from lagoon pinnacles, whereas in Jiaojian Reef, the bimodal distribution was influenced by reduced dynamic sorting due to seagrass root stabilization. By comparing these distinct reef systems, this study elucidated the impact of localized geomorphic features, such as pinnacles and seagrass beds, on sediment sorting mechanisms. Understanding the grain size characteristics and distribution patterns of sand in natural microtopographic settings on the lagoon slopes of atolls is crucial for the rational use and scientific management of resources, with significant implications for land reclamation and reef engineering projects.

Currently, tapping is the only method of obtaining natural rubber, an essential industrial raw material. The stability of the labor force supply for tapping is crucial for the sustainable development of the natural rubber industry. As China's second-largest rubber planting area, Hainan Island had a planting area of 585,800 hectares in 2020, accounting for 45% of the country's total, with over 2 million workers. Labor force shortages and the aging phenomenon in tapping have become increasingly severe and have attracted significant attention. However, the related research lacks detailed spatial information for conversion estimation, which hinders macroeconomic regulation. This study is based on the 2020 Hainan Island natural rubber distribution map, Dynamic World land use classification products, and the WorldPop population distribution dataset. It employs multiple technical operations such as temporal and spatial filtering, removal of small patches, buffer parameter settings, and masking to obtain the 2020 potential tapping labor density map for Hainan's rubber planting areas. Spatial statistical methods are used to analyze the spatial distribution and age structure characteristics of potential tapping labor force in Hainan's rubber planting areas as well as the spatial distribution of labor force shortage degrees after conversion to actual tapping labor force, including the labor force shortage levels and areas for each city and county, revealing the spatial pattern. The results reveal the following: 1) The total number of potential tapping laborers in Hainan's rubber planting areas is 1.567 4 million, with a spatial distribution pattern of high in the north and low in the south. The proportion of the population aged 45~59 years is 34%, indicating a significant aging trend. 2) There are significant spatial differences in the degree of labor shortage. The primary shortage areas are mainly concentrated in the junction areas of the central-western and central-eastern counties, with a belt-like distribution. In contrast, the secondary and tertiary shortage areas are widely distributed in the central-western, central, and some central-eastern county junctions, with shortage in the central area being particularly severe, showing a contiguous distribution. 3) The primary shortage areas in Danzhou City, Baisha County, and Qiongzhong County rank in the top three, with a cumulative area of 50,500 hectares. Baisha, Qiongzhong, Chengmai, and Ledong Counties are also prominent in the secondary and tertiary shortage areas, covering a total area of 23,300 hectares. In total, the area of labor shortage regions in Hainan Island is 141,700 hectares, necessitating a future focus. To address the labor force shortage issue in tapping, it is recommended to strengthen infrastructure construction in the rubber plantations within the shortage areas and actively promote new tapping methods (e.g., low-frequency tapping) or tools (e.g., electric tapping knives) to reduce the labor intensity of tapping and increase the number of trees tapped per capita. This will provide favorable support for the sustainable and healthy development of Hainan's natural rubber industry. By revealing the spatial distribution characteristics and degree of tapping labor shortage, this study aims to provide robust decision-making support for the Hainan provincial government in addressing employment issues of tapping labor, optimizing human resource management strategies, and promoting the sustainable development of the natural rubber industry.

Coral reefs, widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters, generally have uneven flat topography. Sudden changes in reef flat topography significantly impact the propagation and evolution characteristics of tsunami-like waves; however, related studies are rare. This study systematically investigates the propagation and evolution of tsunami-like waves over uneven islands and reefs through wave flume physical experiments, analyzing the influences of incident wave height and reef flat water depth on these characteristics. The experimental results show that an uneven reef flat blocks the propagation of solitary waves and generates reflected waves. The slope, reef margin, and first reef flat in front of the reef are deep underwater, causing solitary waves to undergo shallow deformation without breaking. The wave height increases to a maximum at the step of the reef flat at shallower water depths and then breaks on the second reef flat. After breaking, the solitary wave propagates over the second reef flat as a swell, with wave height slowly attenuated due to energy dissipation from breaking in the limited water depth. As the incident wave height increases, the local wave height at each measuring point rises, with the increase in wave surface further amplified by the shallowing effect at the reef flat step. An increase in incident wave height causes the uneven reef flat to dissipate more wave energy and enhances wave attenuation. Consequently, the spatial distribution of local wave height Hi/H0 decreases with an increase in incident wave height. Increasing the water depth of the reef flat gradually weakens the shallowing effect, resulting in a decrease in the range and peak value of the maximum wave height near the reef flat step. When the water depth of the reef flat exceeds a certain limit, such as hr = 0.05 m in this study, the influence of the uneven reef flat on local wave height diminishes. An increase in the water depth leads to a reduction in wave energy consumed by the uneven reef flat, while the maximum wave height on the second reef flat increases monotonically with deeper water. During the propagation of solitary waves over uneven islands and reefs, two reflections from reef margins and flat steps occur. The reflection coefficient CR1 decreased with increasing incident wave height and reef flat water depth, while the reflection coefficient CR2 decreases significantly with increasing water depth. When the reef flat water depth is low, sudden changes in reef flat terrain greatly enhance the reflection intensity of incident waves. In particular, when hr = 0 m, the reflection coefficient CR2 reaches approximately 0.3.

Within the broader context of China's industrial structural transformation, the spillover effects of environmental regulations on urban industrial structure upgrading have gained increasing attention. This study uses panel data from 260 prefecture-level cities in China from 2006 to 2020, applying the entropy weight method and the ratio method to quantitatively analyze the levels of environmental regulation and industrial structure upgrading. The findings are as follows: (1) Temporal Analysis: Both formal and informal environmental regulations exhibit an upward trend, reflecting growing societal concern for environmental protection and strengthened government policies. Although informal environmental regulations have grown rapidly, their scores remain lower than those of formal regulations, suggesting a gap between public environmental awareness and government action. Industrial structure upgrading shows an overall upward trend, with more significant progress after 2012, likely due to the introduction of more stringent environmental protection policies. (2) Spatial Analysis: Formal environmental regulations initially declined before increasing, likely influenced by regional economic development variations and differences in policy enforcement. The overall level of informal environmental regulations has risen, particularly in medium- and low-level cities, reflecting regional disparities in environmental awareness. The spatial evolution of industrial structure upgrading aligns with these temporal trends, showcasing regional policy coordination and the complementarity of industrial structures across regions. (3) Spatial Spillover Effects of Environmental Regulations: Environmental regulations exert significant positive spatial effects on industrial structure upgrading, indicating that regulations in one region positively influence both local and neighboring areas. The presence of spatial spillover effects highlights the crucial role of environmental regulations in promoting industrial structure upgrading. Both the direct and indirect effects of formal and informal environmental regulations are significant, although the positive spatial spillover diminishes with distance, likely due to higher information transmission and collaboration costs. Marginal Contributions to Existing Literature: First, this study addresses a research gap regarding the impact of urban environmental regulations on industrial structure upgrading, offering new theoretical and practical insights for sustainable urban development and industrial optimization. Second, it broadens the research perspective by examining the roles of both formal and informal environmental regulations. Lastly, it challenges traditional linear assumptions by exploring the nonlinear relationship between environmental regulations and industrial structure upgrading using bivariate spatial correlation. Based on these findings, it is recommended that cities enhance the intensity and effectiveness of environmental regulations, support medium- and low-level cities in their development transitions, and promote industrial structure upgrading through increased inter-city cooperation and mutual assistance.

With globalization accelerating, films, as unique cultural products, are increasingly crossing borders and forming global trade networks. This network is a significant research focus in film geography. An in-depth analysis of the global film trade network helps illuminates its spatial and temporal patterns, offering both academic insight and practical value for the expansion of the Chinese film market overseas and the implementing cultural power strategies. Based on data from the United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database, this study uses complex network analysis methods to explore the evolution of the spatial and temporal characteristics of the global film trade network from 2004 to 2019. The findings reveal four key trends: first, the continuous expansion, seen in the growing number of nodes and trade flows indicates that the film trade relations between countries are becoming closer, creating a highly interconnected international cultural market. This reflects a growing decentralization of global cultural products, particularly with an increased in participation from Asian countries. Second, the trade network's topology has shifted from a dual-core model centered on Europe and America to a multipolar structure centered on Europe, Asia, and the United States, highlighting the increasingly important role of Asian countries, especially China, in the global film trade. Third, the distinction between the network's core and periphery has become more pronounced, revealing an increasing hierarchy in the film trade. This hierarchy may exacerbate market imbalances, giving stronger countries more influence over film production and distribution, whereas smaller cultural markets face more severe challenges. Finally, community detection analysis shows that the global film trade network exhibits significant community distribution characteristics, with these communities being relatively geographically concentrated, fostering stable exchange and cooperation of cultural products. This study examines the spatial and temporal evolution of the global film trade network from a macro perspective, focusing on the overall characteristics, topological structure, spatial evolution, and community formation. The research found that film geography emphasizes the role of films as a social practice, revealing cultural exchanges and their global dissemination among different countries and regions. Economic power continues to play a crucial role in the global film distribution. Despite the increasingly interconnected global film trade, the diversification of trade partners were not decentralized; rather, it has reinforced connections among countries within regions, reflecting a complementary relationship between regionalization and globalization. Economically developed countries dominate regional groups, highlighting the critical role of economic power in the global film trade. Despite stable trade cooperation, cultural imperialism remains a persistent issue as the dominance of American films in the global market promotes cultural homogenization. The study highlights the interplay of economic and cultural forces in shaping global film product flows, with the film network intersecting with other global networks. This calls for a critical analysis of power dynamics and sociocultural significance within these structures. As globalization advances, more nations are integrating into the global film trade, with China emerging as a key player. However, there is still a need to optimize trade structures, actively expand markets, and foster collaboration with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative to strengthen China's s position in the global film trade network.

Economic forests are crucial sources of food and nutrition. To guarantee national grain and oil security, it is extremely important to investigate the spatial association between cutting quotas and the economic forest planting. The logging quota scheme increases uncertainty about the future benefits of forestry management. This limits the scale expansion of the timber forest planting industry and dampens the societal enthusiasm for economic forest planting. The severity of logging control in the northern China has been increasing from the standpoint of spatial distribution, which has caused the economic forest planting center of gravity to shift south. Economic forests can meet citizens' needs for wholesome food and ensure the safety of the nation's food supply under a favorable food outlook. The spatial correlation between the logging quota and economic forest plantations was examined using the centroid model based on data from the fourth to ninth national forest resource inventories. A spatial Dubin model was used to test the spatial spillover effects of logging quotas on economically important forest plantations. Additionally, two tasks were completed to guarantee the reliability of the estimation results. After variable replacement and first-order difference processing, a robustness test was conducted using a spatial Durbin model. The system of the GMM estimation endogeneity test came in second place. The findings indicated that the economic forest planting center primarily moved within the Henan Province, and that its overall migration distance was 235.13 km to the southwest. The ratio of the logging quota to forest stock shifted its center of gravity from Henan to Hubei Province and moved southwest across a migration distance of 300.4 km. The spatial separation of the two barycenters' was stable, but the consistency index fluctuated in an inverted U-shape, and the spatial coupling was typically high. At the regional level, the southwestern and southern forests exhibited considerable spatial- overlap and -coupling, whereas the northern forest experienced considerable fluctuations and an improved trend. The logging quotas and commercial forest planting have a spatial relationship. The two barycenters' local spatial patterns exhibited "high-high" and "low-low" agglomeration traits. The scale of economic forest planting has benefited spatially from logging quotas. In addition to encouraging the growth of the local economic forest planting scale, increasing the relative quantity of the logging quota was helpful in the growth of the economic forest planting scale in nearby areas. At the regional level, the southern forest area had a stronger and less pronounced spatial spillover effect than the northern forest area. The spatial spillover effect of the relaxation of the tending logging quota was obviously greater than the spatial spillover effect of the relaxation of the main logging quota, as seen from the perspective of the logging quota structure. This study enhances the theoretical justification for farmers' planting structure adjustment, in addition to resolving the problem of analyzing the trend of farmers' changing planting structures from a microscopic perspective. The conclusions of this study serve as a guide for improving the spatial layout of economic forest planting and the logging quota system.

Between 1958 and 1999, notable lithic localities recorded prehistoric activities in Xiqiao Town of Nanhai District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, from which double-shouldered and microlith-stone artefacts were uncovered. Currently, the "Xiqiaoshan site" is recognized as a substantial Neolithic quarry and processing location, dating back to 4‒7 ka B P. Subsequently, from 2011 to 2022, we conducted multiple geological environmental surveys and analyses on Xiqiaoshan Mountain. A well-preserved Quaternary stratigraphic profile was discovered north of Fuxian village in the southeast foothills of Xiqiaoshan Mountain. The sedimentological, geochemical, and geochronological results indicate the presence of two primary sedimentary strata in the Fuxian locality. The upper unit comprises the Holocene swamp facies, with a calibrated AMS14C dating range from 5052‒5409 a B P; whereas, the lower unit comprises the late Pleistocene alluvial-diluvial strata, with a calibrated AMS14C dating range from 38420‒40502 a B P, and an optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating range of 41.977‒43.796 ka B P. Late Pleistocene strata yielded two sand-gravel layers containing Paleolithic artefacts, which are marked as layers A1 and A2. The predominant artefacts in lower layer A1 include larger scrapers, pointed tools, tongue-shaped edged tools, and small flake tools, such as various scrapers, denticulates, notches, knives, utilized flakes, and cores, including tanged axe-shaped knives. In the upper layer A2, backed or tanged knives appear more frequently. The other small flake tools from this layer (A2) were not significantly different from those in lower layer A1. One bifacially prepared core for producing small elongated flakes is of particular interest for this artefact. Based on the average deposition rate, the computational age of the A1 layer was 46.511‒47.325 ka B P, whereas that of the A2 layer was 41.977‒42.167 ka B P. Although the number of artefacts within the Holocene sediments (>5 ka B P) overlying the late Pleistocene strata is limited, the characteristics of inheritance and development are still evident in the types of artefacts. The discovery presented in this study has completely updated and extended the connotation of Xiqiaoshan National Geopark and "Xiqiaoshan culture,"breaking through the late Pleistocene Paleolithic remains records with exact dating in the Pearl River Delta region for the first time. Therefore, a ground-breaking discovery can accurately trace the footsteps of modern humans in the coastal areas of South China from 40‒50 ka. It also reveals the rich features of lithic industry and the developmental characteristics and evolution of its cultural connotations during this period. The present study shows that during the relatively warm and humid conditions of marine isotope stages 3 (MIS3) interglacial period and the subsequent cold and arid stage of MIS2, human population in the Fuxian locality encountered environmental challenges and adopted new subsistence strategy, which is of great significance for understanding modern human responses and adaptations to global and regional environmental and climate change.

Drug crime is a serious global problem requiring attention. This study focuses on the spatial characteristics and factors influencing drug crimes at the provincial level. Understanding these factors is crucial to combating drug crime and maintaining social stability. In the past, most studies analyzed and discussed drug crimes at the macro and micro scales; however, research on the meso scale is still relatively lacking, and the special geographical location and complex socioeconomic conditions near the border of Myanmar in Yunnan Province had a high incidence of drug crimes, so it was still necessary to study drug crimes at the meso scale in Yunnan Province. This study considers drug crime cases from 129 counties and districts in Yunnan Province and employs Geographic Information System (GIS) statistical analysis, spatial autocorrelation analysis, and a spatial gravity model to examine the spatial difference patterns and spatial correlation network characteristics of drug crime in the province. Additionally, an indicator system for drug crime-influencing factors was constructed, which included economic level, income level, urbanization level, education level, floating population, impact of drug source areas, and terrain complexity. A regression analysis using a Spatial Durbin Model was conducted to analyze the relationship between these factors and drug crimes. First, the drug crime rate in Yunnan Province exhibits a notable spatial variation pattern, wherein clusters of high crime rates are primarily concentrated along the China-Myanmar border. Second, drug crimes in different districts and counties of Yunnan Province exhibit notable spatial correlation and agglomeration patterns on a global scale. Considering the spatial distribution, two main groups with strong spatial correlation networks were identified. The first group includes Kunming's central urban area and its surrounding districts and counties. The second group consists of districts and counties along the Yunnan border. This spatial distribution aligns with the cubic function curve depicting the relationship between distance from Myanmar and the density of drug crime rates. Third, among the influencing factors, the economic level, income level, urbanization level, and drug source area have a significant impact on the drug crime rate in Yunnan Province. Notably, factors related to the source of drugs had the most significant influence, displaying a significant negative correlation. The relationship between the distance from the China-Myanmar border (the source of drugs) and the drug crime rate follows an elongated "inverted S" shaped distribution curve. It demonstrated a significant initial decrease, followed by a slight increase and then a subsequent downward trend. Additionally, the economic level has a significant negative impact on the variation in drug crimes in Yunnan Province, whereas income and urbanization levels have a positive impact. In conclusion, this study focused on the research area of Yunnan Province, which is known for its high incidence of drug crimes, making it a suitable and significant region for this study. It conducted a quantitative analysis of the spatial differentiation characteristics and influencing factors of drug crimes in the Yunnan Province at a provincial mesoscale. Analyzing the exploration of the direction of these influencing factors contributes to the advancement of research on criminal geography.

Wildlife crime, especially in the notably hard-hit region of Sichuan and Chongqing, constitutes a pivotal research domain within green criminology research. Taking this region as the core research area, grounding our analysis in the theoretical framework of social-ecological systems theory, using spatial analysis, geo-detector and other methods, to explore the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics and influencing factors of wildlife crime in the Sichuan-Chongqing region. Study findings include the following: (1) wildlife crimes in the Sichuan-Chongqing regions mainly involve illegal hunting and killing precious and endangered wildlife, the species involved are predominantly birds and beasts, with the number of pheasants of the pheasant family, owls, and various snakes of the reptile family being the most numerous. The main body of the offence is far more men than women, and young adult Han people are often involved. The overall cultural level is low, and the main job is farming. (2) A single wildlife crime often involves a number of offenses; the most common criminal process involves (seller) hunting/hunting-killing-transportation-selling-(buyer) acquisition. (3) The overall inter-annual variation of the crime shows strong volatility, which can be divided into a gradual growth phase, a sharp decline phase and a sharp growth phase, the monthly distribution is high in November. (4) The overall pattern of "high incidence in the east and west and low incidence in the center" is shown in the city scale; in the county scale, the Shuangliu District of Chengdu City and Wanzhou District of Chongqing City are the most common. In microplaces, there are differences in the main places where offences are committed and transacted under different offences. (5) The occurrence of crime is mainly affected by the average annual temperature, total water resources, the state of natural ecosystems and other natural factors, male and female gender ratio, level of education, transport network density, ease of access and other socio-economic and cultural factors; the level of consumption of the population, the rate of natural growth and the combination of other factors have a significant impact on wildlife crime. The integrated crime pattern theory and rational choice theory suggest that by rationally considering multiple factors such as the natural environment (e.g. abundant wildlife resources and hidden habitats), the social environment (e.g. weak regulation, strong market demand or weak public awareness of protection) and their own psychological characteristics (e.g. the relationship between costs and benefits), offenders are more likely to convert their criminal intent into actual action, which will in turn The criminal intent is more likely to be transformed into actual action, thus contributing to the eventual occurrence of the criminal behaviour.

Justice is an ancient concept that originated from commodity exchange and has been continuously critiqued and discussed in philosophy, ethics, and law to identify potential pathways for societies and institutions. Since the 1960s, justice research led by sociologists and political scientists has identified spatial injustices, attributing them to inherent flaws in economic systems, social order, and legal frameworks. Subsequently, the emphasis on spatial aspects, proposed by Henri Lefebvre's "right to the city" and the spatiality of social justice explored by Marxist geographers, inspired scholars such as Pirie, Soja, and Iveson. These scholars have continuously refined the theoretical framework of spatial justice, prioritizing real-world spatial practices. The essence of spatial justice can be understood through a series of dichotomies: it is both a theoretical critique and a practical methodology, passively influenced by social systems yet spatially proactive, static yet dynamic, and both process and outcome. The essential questions are "seeing spatial justice" and "seeking spatial justice", which involve "describing the justice level of social spatial outcomes" and "exploring the spatial causes and formation processes of injustice." Additionally, the two main research directions are "territorial distribution justice" and "local discrimination." Spatial justice does not imply absolute equality in distribution processes or outcomes; rather, it recognizes differences in human needs that lead to unequal distributions. The principles of spatial justice include both equality and differentiation. Scholars generally agree that the principle of equality should meet basic needs, such as transportation infrastructure, primary education, and healthcare services, which ensure minimum living standards. Based on differentiated needs—determined by factors such as region, identity, environment, contributions, and merits—non-essential material goods, social resources, and environmental assets can be allocated unequally. However, the concept of human needs is inherently subjective and is closely related to age, education, perception, and experience. Evaluating the reasonableness of these needs is complex and challenging. Assessing spatial justice from the perspective of human needs requires addressing two key issues: defining the scope of basic and non-basic needs and establishing assessment standards or indices for multidimensional needs. Although researchers such as Davies and Daniels have long argued that distribution should consider actual social needs rather than just population size, current empirical analyses, such as accessibility and availability studies, remain limited to measuring the ratio of resources to population size. Few studies have explored the characteristics and variances in needs related to residents, service levels, quality, and pricing, remaining distant from real, multidimensional, and differentiated human needs. By summarizing existing theories and methods, this study proposes three areas for future research: (1) research on territorial distribution justice should explore actual demand content beyond population size and establish relevant evaluation indicators; (2) urban spatial practices should adopt justice standards from a human-centric perspective to mitigate unjust socio-spatial outcomes; and (3) the forms and methods of achieving justice should be explored at a global regional scale.

The periodic outbreaks of Acanthaster spp. which are predators of coral, are important reasons for the degradation of coral reefs. Information on the food sources of Acanthaster spp. Would be useful for suppressing outbreaks of the species. Although field observations on the feeding habits of Acanthaster spp., suggest that they feed mainly on corals, no isotopic evidence has been provided to support this. Therefore, this study was conducted to explore the food sources of Acanthaster spp. from the perspective of stable carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen isotopes (δ15N) by analyzing the consistency of the δ13C values of food in the gastric contents and pyloric gut as well as the significance of their δ13C and δ15N values, with the goal being to attain new information for comprehensively understanding or controlling outbreaks of these predators. In March 2020, various Acanthaster spp. were collected from the reef slope of coral reefs in the Xisha Islands, at a water depth of less than 10 m. The sampled individuals were immediately placed in a -20°C refrigerator for transport to the laboratory, after which they were stored in -80°C freezer. The gastric contents and pyloric gut were extracted for measurement of δ13C and δ15N values to investigate the feeding habits of Acanthaster spp. for the first time. The collected individuals were divided into three age groups: sub-adult (10~200 mm diameter), adult (200~350 mm), and senile-adult (>350 mm). The δ13C values of the gastric contents and pyloric gut were -15.03‰~-13.00‰ and -15.21‰~-13.24‰, respectively. The average change in δ13C values (△δ13C) between the gastric contents and pyloric gut were 0.17‰, 0.20‰, and 0.04‰ for the sub-adult, adult, and senile-adult groups, respectively. The results showed the following: (1) The δ13C values of the gastric contents correlated positively with those of the pyloric gut for Acanthaster spp. of different diameters. There were no significant differences in average δ13C values between the gastric contents and pyloric gut. The same correlation trend between the gastric contents and pyloric gut, indicated a similar presentation of feeding habits. Both the gastric contents and pyloric gut can be used for food research; and (2) With increase in the Acanthaster spp. diameter and age, the δ13C values of the gastric contents and pyloric gut showed a decreasing trend. By contrast, the δ15N values of the gastric contents showed an increasing trend, indicating the variable properties of the food ingested. Specifically, the trophic level of the food tended to increase. The food trophic level was relatively low for sub-adults or individuals of a shorter diameter whereas it was relatively high for the larger and older individuals. These study findings provide new reference data for exploring the feeding habits of Acanthaster spp. at different growth phases and understanding the reasons for their outbreaks.

China has a long history and rich cultural heritage; however, the rampant criminal looting of ancient cultural sites and tombs (referred to as "cultural relics" in this study) poses a significant challenge to the construction of China's cultural confidence and security. Despite its importance, relatively little research has been conducted on this issue from the perspective of criminal geography. Therefore, this study focuses on China, utilizing such methods as text and spatial analyses and mathematical statistics based on relevant data from the "China Judgments Online" website to explore the spatial distribution and its evolution process, crime pattern characteristics, and the main influencing factors of the criminal looting of cultural relics. The research findings indicate that (1) the majority of looted cultural relics are ancient tombs from the Qin and Han dynasties or earlier periods. Crimes have been committed predominantly by middle-aged or older adult men with low levels of education who are typically engaged in farming or are unemployed. (2) Regarding spatial distribution, crime is mainly concentrated in the central and eastern regions, with three high-incidence provinces (Henan, Shanxi, and Shaanxi) and three sub-high-incidence provinces (Zhejiang, Shandong, and Anhui). The hotspots are mainly concentrated at the junction of Henan, Shanxi, and Shaanxi provinces, with seven hotspot cities, such as Luoyang and Yuncheng, and 16 sub-hotspot cities, such as Anyang, Hebi, and Xinxiang. Although slight changes and shifts have been observed over time in the high-incidence areas, their overall locations have remained relatively stable. At the micro level, these crimes frequently occur in farmlands, forests, and wastelands. Both criminal activities and protected heritage sites tend to cluster around the middle-lower reaches of the Yellow and Yangtze River regions; that is, regions with rich cultural relics are more susceptible to cultural relic theft. (3) The spatial mode of criminal travel is mainly "intra-city theft and excavation", and the destinations of "cross-city theft and excavation" are concentrated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow and the Yangtze Rivers, mainly in medium and short distances. Most crimes are committed by gangs of 4-9 people (accounting for 80.82% of cases). Crimes are divided into two categories: professional and occasional theft and excavation. The criminal process can be divided into four stages: teaming, planning, implementation, and escape. (4) The distribution of cultural relics and prevention policies are important factors that influence the criminal looting of cultural relics, and the interaction between them is obvious. This study explores the spatial distribution, crime patterns, and influencing factors of such crimes in China and expands the research field of criminal geography to a certain extent. It also provides a scientific reference for historic site protection policymakers.

Loa Kai-Foo investigated an island inside the Lingding Ocean, which is outside the Pearl River Delta, in his early years, and arrived on the same island thrice. Finally, he and his three classmates completed a report titled, "Qi ao Island." Later, he read by candlelight at night, telling the knowledge contained in a map named "Zhoushan Island" and writing the article "Zhoushan Island." These two results represent new explorations in the empirical study of islands in China. Among them, "Qi ao Island" signifies the start-up phase of island research and talent cultivation in the Republic of China, whereas "Zhoushan Island" signifies the comprehensive follow-up analysis of islands. The author, who has not been to Zhoushan Island, can describe the actual situation on the island based on the principle of map reading. The two articles are not only a reflection of Mr. Luo's interest toward the island and his courage to explore but also a reflection of his research method of combining geography and humanities, and more importantly, a reminder of the importance of literature review. In fact, these two achievements simultaneously established a volt line in the history of island research in our country.

The 65th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE-65) conducted geological field surveys in Lützow-Holm Bay, Prince Olav Coast and Enderby Land regions during the 2023-2024 austral summer season. The field party consisted of four geologists. A small helicopter in addition to Shirase's big helicopter were used to support field parties during the summer operations conducted by JARE-65. This report summarizes preparations for field operations and activities of the geological team.

Changing climate patterns represent a major challenge for Hungarian municipalities, particularly with regard to the increasing severity and frequency of heatwaves. As a result of the COVID-19 lockdowns, thousands of people moved to communities around Lake Balaton; therefore, cities and villages should place more emphasis on their long-term sustainability and climate resilience. This article addresses the literature gap in assessing the heatwave resilience of Hungarian settlements, focusing on the municipalities of the Lake Balaton Resort Area. Our main objective was to uncover spatial and temporal patterns in the 180 settlements involved in the analysis by using an indicator-based comparative method. The set of indicators included nine sensitivity and six adaptive capacity measures referring to the base years 2015 and 2022. Our results show heterogeneous spatial patterns across the analysed categories; however, several regional clusters can be identified: 1) in general, settlements from the northern part of the study area had above-average adaptive capacity, while the southern and south-western municipalities had significantly lower values, 2) only one micro-regional cluster can be defined in terms of sensitivity values in the northern part of the study area; 3) below average resilience values were found in the south-western and southern areas; 4) finally, neither sensitivity nor adaptive capacity nor overall resilience scores had changed significantly over time at the regional level. The applied methodology can easily be adopted in other Hungarian or even Central and Eastern European cities; consequently, new results can contribute to a better understanding of inter- and intra-regional patterns of heatwave resilience at the local level.

The linguistic landscape is an essential aspect of determining how language materializes in our surroundings. It is especially important in multilingual communities, as it reflects their identity. The linguistic landscape changes over time due to various factors, such as changes in politics, economics, and the national minority population. Study aims to explore how language manifested in the cultural landscape of Slavonia and Baranja, how it changed over time. Linguistic signs can also reflect the spatial identity of the population in the investigated periods (and its changes). Research compares the linguistic landscape of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries with the contemporary period. We used old postcards as sources for the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and conducted fieldwork for the modern period. The research involved analysing a vast corpus of linguistic signs in the cultural landscape. Research showed that the linguistic landscape, both in the past and present, is visible through various inscriptions on shops, craft stores, state institutions, and street names. Official inscriptions on public institutions in Croatia are written in the Croatian language, and in ethnically diverse areas, these inscriptions are bilingual, but not to the extent allowed by the Croatian Constitution. Homogeneity or heterogeneity of the linguistic landscape users determines its appearance. Croatian is the primary language in most of inscriptions. However, the status and dominance of other languages have changed, depending on the complex political and linguistic past of the region. The study has confirmed that the linguistic landscape reflects both the spatial identity as well as the heterogeneity and multilingualism of the linguistic landscape in urban and rural areas.

Urban green and recreational spaces are important for residents and one of the foundations for the functioning of cities. They offer numerous benefits, including the influence on the price of real estate as an economic benefit. In this paper, the influence of green and recreational areas in Zagreb on the price of apartments in residential buildings is analysed using the hedonic pricing model. The data for the study was processed and analysed using a geographic information system. A local hedonic price model was developed. The results show that some of the observed green and recreational areas increase the price of housing due to their proximity, while others decrease it. Some areas have no influence on the price of housing. The influence of the observed areas on housing prices was heterogeneous. Spatial differences were also found in the influence of the observed areas on housing prices. The most attractive factors when choosing a place to live are Jarun and the parks in the city centre. The price of apartments that near the Jarun increases by 41 EUR/m2 if the apartment is 100 m closer to the Jarun. The price of the apartment increases by 91 EUR/m2 the closer the apartment is to the parks in the city centre (per 100 m). Apartments near Jarun and the parks in the city centre are not available for residents with lower socio-economic status. The forest areas, Maksimir Park and the banks of the Sava river are not favoured when choosing a place to live. Neighbourhoods near these areas are available to the lower socioeconomic status population. Bundek raises the price of one part of the apartments and lowers the price of the other. The results of this study can contribute to the study of green gentrification in Zagreb, but further research is needed on socio-economic indicators and other changes in the region.

Kosovo Field (Kosovo Polje), the core region of the newly independent Kosovo, experienced several key historical events, each of which left important memories in the space. As political control over territory changed, different memories connected to the area became stronger, while others were pushed into the background. The first battle of Kosovo (1389) and the death of their ruler Lazar, is a key event in Serbian history, identified through spectacular landmarks in the region. Connected to this event, Turkish monuments also exist, commemorating the death of the martyr Sultan Murad I. Following independence, memorials of Albanian fighters started mushrooming as a core element of Kosovar identity building, with the martyrdom of the “legendary commander” Adem Jashari being central to this emblematic memory project. All three nations have an “official” martyr connected to the space, around which different nation-building narratives have been constructed. As the struggle over the control and influence of the region continues, so does the competition of different memories and memorials. Territorialisation and de-territorialisation of memories are ongoing projects in the country by the three nations, linked to competing nation-buildings and political power struggles.

This systematic literature review focuses on slow tourism, which grew in popularity during COVID-19. It highlights the gaps in the literature for future researchers by compiling the papers published on slow tourism between 2010 and 2021. In addition, the managerial suggestions we make serve as lessons for practitioners. Developed as a systematic literature review, we used different selection criteria including papers published in English in Q1 or Q2 journals between 2010 and 2021 in the sample. This study identified the following parameters: the number of publications, the most preferred research methodology and data collection methods, and the geographical coverage of slow tourism papers. The relationship between slow tourism and sustainability is strengthened by our analysis. We identified qualitative studies, particularly in-depth interviews, as the most popular data collection method for slow tourism studies. Australia, the United Kingdom, and Poland were the most popular destinations in terms of the geographical context of these studies, followed by Italy. As the literature is missing a unified definition of slow tourism, we propose one based on the four-pillar model.

This study examines the changing preferences of rural tourists in Western Transdanubia, Hungary, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. We aim to uncover how rural tourism has changed and identify the new winners of the shifting demand. In 2021, we conducted a comprehensive survey with 925 participants and introduced a novel activity-based segmentation of rural tourists, revealing a strong preference for complex service packages. Practically, our findings highlight that village caterers who have strategically segmented the market have emerged as winners, successfully attracting different age groups and genders with customized packages. Cluster analysis revealed a segment of rural tourists who, without exception, were enthusiastic about diverse activities. In particular, our cross-cluster analysis points to a significant amount of potential demand among middle-aged tourists. These findings help practitioners develop a targeted product mix and marketing strategy to meet the changing demands of rural tourism.

This study analyses multi-annual variations in biothermal conditions recorded at three weather stations in Kołobrzeg, Poznań and Kraków from 1951 to 2020 at 12:00 UTC based on the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). The analyses covered the median, lower and upper quartiles and average minimum and maximum UTCIs for respective months. In addition, the study determined the frequency of occurrence of various types of thermal stress in respective months. A significant rise in the annual and monthly trends was observed, while the highest increase was noted in winter and early spring (from January to May).

Natural springs are one of the potential sources of water supply, but due to negative anthropogenic impacts, the water quality can deteriorate. The Zygmunt Spring in Złoty Potok does not form the basis of the population’s water supply, but it is constantly being exploited by residents and tourists. This study was carried out at Zygmunt Spring in two measurement series for 34 physicochemical and bacteriological parameters. The average electrolytic conductivity (EC) of the water in this spring is about 0.039 S · m−1, the pH is about 7.04 and the discharge is equal to 15 dm3 · s−1. The test results were compared with the permissible limits for national drinking water, groundwater quality and WHO standards. The value of the Backman pollution index was calculated for these parameters. This index takes into account parameters that exceed the upper permissible concentrations of contaminants. The Backman Contamination Index value was about -13, but the results of bacteriological analyses indicate a very high number of microorganisms in the water (>300 cfu · mL−1), indicating a high health risk.

Microplastic (MP) concentrations were determined in surface samples of bottom sediments collected from three lakes in northern and central Poland, located in catchments with low direct anthropopressure. Between 4 MP and 21 MP particles per kilogram of wet sediment were identified in the lakes studied. These values are small compared to those found in lakes located in urbanised areas and other aquatic environments, but important from the point of view of the threat to local freshwater ecosystems. The differences in the number of MP particles in the three examined lakes are a result of the way their nearest environments are used. Lake Czechowskie, the richest in MP particles found, is partially surrounded by pastures and arable lands, while some of the areas lying by are also seasonally used for recreation. In contrast, Lakes Głęboczek and Gościąż, both completely surrounded by forests, show significantly less MP pollution. The sources of MP in these lakes are primarily attributed to atmospheric transport. A correlation was made between the deepest detected MP particles (ranging from 25 cm to 60 cm) and the rate of sedimentation in the lakes, calculated based on the average annual deposition in sediment traps. Based on this, the attempt was made to determine the exact year of the deepest identified MP particles. The results obtained for each lake – the year 1901 for Lake Czechowskie, 1963 for Lake Głęboczek and 1986 for Lake Gościąż – were interpreted in terms of the sources of MP origin.

The study investigates glacial lakes in Svalbard, examining examples from the forelands of Gåsbreen, Crammerbreen, Knivseggbreen, Neppebreen and Ragnarbreen, each representing different classifications of glacial lakes, including ice-dammed, frontal moraine-dammed and medial moraine-dammed. These lakes serve as key indicators of ongoing climate change and the effects of deglaciation processes in polar landscapes. Quantitative analyses reveal notable differences among the selected glacial lakes. For instance, Goësvatnet experienced cyclical glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), with a recorded volume of 666,389 m3 during one event. Conversely, the lake on the Ragnarbreen foreland, while stable, has not encountered any GLOFs, indicating a distinct response to deglaciation compared with other examples. Hydrographic and surface analyses, conducted using digital elevation models (DEMs) and remote sensing data, provide insights into the morphological characteristics and dynamics of the glacial lakes and surrounding landscapes. Longitudinal profiles of glaciers show varied terrains, with Ragnarbreen exhibiting the least variability due to its source zone on the ice cap, while Crammerbreen presents diverse features, including tectonic faults resulting in icefalls with slopes >35°. By including multiple glacial lakes across different locations and classifications, this study offers a comprehensive understanding of the diverse responses of glacial lakes to deglaciation processes in Svalbard, shedding light on the complex interactions between glaciers, lakes and changing environmental conditions in the Arctic region.

The study aims to develop a model for evaluating the technological advancement of teachers engaged in distance education, with variations explained by their individual attributes. These attributes encompass organization skills, adaptation, communication abilities, independence, proficiency, efficiency, and attitude towards distance education. The study involved surveys conducted on 130 geography teachers in Poland during the initial months of the pandemic. The authors hypothesized that the variability in technological advancement could be attributed to the functional capabilities of maps used in geography lessons and the identified personal characteristics. To test these assumptions, 25 original indicators were devised, forming the Technological Advancement Index (TAI). Through statistical analysis, a disparate technological advancement among teachers was observed, with TAI scores ranging from +6.0 to −10.60. At the lower proficiency levels, variability was primarily linked to independence, followed by proficiency and efficiency. As advancement levels increased, so did the functional diversity of maps used, particularly in problem-solving and the creation of new digital maps. This exploration into technological advancement yielded novel conceptual and empirical insights, allowing validation of the Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition (SAMR) model used in traditional education. Additionally, it led to development of the Recommendation, Imitation, Gamification, Mobilization, Action (RIGMA) model tailored for distance education. The proposed model holds applicability in enhancing geographic education during distance learning initiatives.

In the educational context of the 21st century, where critical thinking and problem-solving are essential skills, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model offers numerous advantages. In contrast to traditional learning models that only focus on knowledge transfer, PBL encourages students to solve real environmental problems, promotes active learning, and encourages the development of critical thinking skills to solve complex global issues. Environmental issues such as global warming, pollution, and other issues require students' ability to integrate various information and analyze, synthesize, and formulate holistic and comprehensive solutions. This research discusses the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and aims to determine its effect on students' critical thinking skills in discussions related to the environment. The type of research applied was a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control-group design pre-test and post-test and the experimental class subjects were 29 and the control class was 32 students as a result of cluster random sampling. Data were collected in the form of essay tests and observations and then analyzed to determine significant differences using the t-test. The results of this study show that there is a significant difference in critical thinking skills with a value of p = 0.004 α 0.05 between the experimental class and the control class, where the experimental class gets a higher score of 71 compared to the control class of 61. In the event that learning involves interdisciplinary and abstract material such as environmental topics and aims to develop students' critical thinking skills, the PBL model can be a teacher's choice in implementing learning.

One of the innovative learning media that can be applied is learning video. Geo Talk Media is an innovation in education that combines the microlearning approach with multimedia technology by utilising natural resources as a laboratory in South Malang. This research aims to produce microlearning-based video learning media. The main focus of this platform is to foster student learning interest in Natural Resources material, especially those in South Malang. The type of research used is Research and Development (RnD), using the ADDIE development model. The instrument used is an open questionnaire with qualitative descriptive data analysis and a closed questionnaire with quantitative descriptive data analysis. The research subjects were geography teachers and students of class X SMAN 1 Kepanjen. The results showed that the micro-learning approach of Geo Talk learning video media can foster student learning interest in natural resources material in the South Malang laboratory. Proven by the percentage level of 87.12% with very feasible criteria. This research is important because it can overcome the problems that are often found, namely the limited focus of students in understanding the material provided, so that the advantages of this media are effective in helping facilitate student understanding of the material taught with a microlearning approach, and can provide new experiences for students.

Developing spatial thinking skills in students often poses a challenge for Geography teachers in Indonesia. The concept of spatial relationships in geography places spatial thinking as a distinct aspect of intelligence, enabling individuals to identify patterns and trends in spatial change. Therefore, appropriate models and strategies are needed to develop spatial thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effect of the Science, Environment, Technology and Society (SETS) learning model integrated with Google Earth on students' spatial thinking ability. This research is a quasi-experiment with posttest-only design nonequivalent groups that uses a quantitative approach with the inferential statistical method using the Independent sample t-test parametric test. The subjects of this study were randomly selected XI grade students from SMAN 10 Malang including, XI-C class as the experimental class and XI-D as the control class. The research instruments used are seven essay questions on spatial thinking ability. The data obtained will be analyzed using parametric statistics Independent sample t-test and obtained sig value. (2-tailed) 0.041. The mean value of the experimental class is greater (80.14) than the mean value of the control class (72.08). It can be concluded that the Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS) model integrated with Google Earth affects students' spatial thinking ability on the material of Disaster and Environment class XI SMAN 10 Malang City. Another finding of this study is that three syntaxes are dominant in bringing up and developing students' spatial thinking ability, namely initiation, concept development formation, and concept application.
