The Urban Institute is an economic and social policy research organization; the Justice Policy Center (JPC) of the Urban Institute focuses its efforts on crime, justice, and community safety issues. Geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping play an important role in several major projects conducted by JPC, including program evaluations and comprehensive assessments of neighborhood-based issues such as crime and disorder.
