1. The Effects of Physical Activity on Cognitive and Learning Abilities in Childhood

Abstract: Physical activity breaks in the classroom are an efficient way of promoting healthy behaviors in students, enhancing the development of their cognitive and academic abilities. The effects of active breaks, which are exclusive to the academic environment, are almost entirely positive, only a few papers did not show significant improvements, but they did not show any negative impact on academic performance either. This research was carried out to identify the properties and consequences of active breaks and physical activity during classes in school age. We have examined multiple databases, and we have selected 41 papers accounting for a time span of 15 years. Psychology, medicine, and education databases were the most browsed. Most papers revealed positive outcomes for improving skills related to mathematics, language, reading, comprehension, as well as cognitive and executive functions. Overall, the results of this review corroborate the theory that physical education in schools is positively associated with academic performance in children. Education researchers keep investigating in order to fully assess the positive impact on academic performance, behavior during classes, and cognitive functions.

2. Fluorescence Profile of Calabrian Opuntia ficus-indica Cladodes Extract: a Promising Low-cost Material for Technological Applications

Abstract: The autofluorescence of calabrian Opuntia ficus-indica bioactive extract upon UV illumination is explored by fluorescence spectroscopy enabling to investigate the typology and distribution of responsible molecules within green cladodes. The spectroscopic analysis of the extract shows a significative red emission, suggesting an abundance of chlorophylls in the sample. Such molecules show pronounced fluorescence in the visible range (400-800 nm) with a very large Stokes shift, when excited with UV light source. The fluorescence profiling is performed also in the case of polymers, such as poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), enriched with OFI extract with a signal improvement up to 40 times greater than the extract alone. This by-product fluorescent molecule can replace commercial dyes into several applications spanning from nano-optics to anti-counterfeiting and bioimaging.

Abstract: We report the first ab initio calculation of the nuclear-structure-dependent radiative correction $ \delta_{ \mathrm{NS} } $ to the $ {}^{10}\mathrm{C} \rightarrow {}^{10}\mathrm{B} $ superallowed transition, computed with the no-core shell model and chiral effective field theory. We obtain $\delta_{ \mathrm{NS} } = - 0.400 (29)_{ \mathrm{nuc} } (12)_{n,\mathrm{el} } $ with a $1.7$-times reduction in the nuclear uncertainty when compared to the current literature estimate based on the shell model and Fermi gas picture. Abstract: We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. Abstract: Segmentation is a critical step in analyzing the developing human fetal brain. There have been vast improvements in automatic segmentation methods in the past several years, and the Fetal Brain Tissue Annotation (FeTA) Challenge 2021 helped to establish an excellent standard of fetal brain segmentation. However, FeTA 2021 was a single center study, and the generalizability of algorithms across different imaging centers remains unsolved, limiting real-world clinical applicability. The multi-center FeTA Challenge 2022 focuses on advancing the generalizability of fetal brain segmentation algorithms for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In FeTA 2022, the training dataset contained images and corresponding manually annotated multi-class labels from two imaging centers, and the testing data contained images from these two imaging centers as well as two additional unseen centers. The data from different centers varied in many aspects, including scanners used, imaging parameters, and fetal brain super-resolution algorithms applied. 16 teams participated in the challenge, and 17 algorithms were evaluated. Here, a detailed overview and analysis of the challenge results are provided, focusing on the generalizability of the submissions. Both in- and out of domain, the white matter and ventricles were segmented with the highest accuracy, while the most challenging structure remains the cerebral cortex due to anatomical complexity. The FeTA Challenge 2022 was able to successfully evaluate and advance generalizability of multi-class fetal brain tissue segmentation algorithms for MRI and it continues to benchmark new algorithms. 6. SliceGPT: Compress Large Language Models by Deleting Rows and Columns

Abstract: Large language models have become the cornerstone of natural language processing, but their use comes with substantial costs in terms of compute and memory resources. Sparsification provides a solution to alleviate these resource constraints, and recent works have shown that trained models can be sparsified post-hoc. Existing sparsification techniques face challenges as they need additional data structures and offer constrained speedup with current hardware. In this paper we present SliceGPT, a new post-training sparsification scheme which replaces each weight matrix with a smaller (dense) matrix, reducing the embedding dimension of the network. Through extensive experimentation, we show that SliceGPT can remove up to 25% of the model parameters (including embeddings) for LLAMA2-70B, OPT 66B and Phi-2 models while maintaining 99%, 99% and 90% zero-shot task performance of the dense model respectively. Our sliced models run on fewer GPUs and run faster without any additional code optimization: on 24GB consumer GPUs we reduce the total compute for inference on LLAMA2-70B to 64% of that of the dense model; on 40GB A100 GPUs we reduce it to 66%. We offer a new insight, computational invariance in transformer networks, which enables SliceGPT and we hope it will inspire and enable future avenues to reduce memory and computation demands for pre-trained models. 11. Searching for ringdown higher modes with a numerical relativity-informed post-merger model

Abstract: Robust measurements of multiple black hole vibrational modes provide a unique opportunity to characterise gravity in extreme curvature and dynamical regimes, to better investigate the nature of compact objects and search for signs of new physics. We use a numerically-tuned quasicircular non-precessing ringdown model, $\texttt{TEOBPM}$, and the $\texttt{pyRing}$ analysis infrastructure to perform a time-domain spectroscopic analysis of the third catalog of transient gravitational-wave signals, GWTC-3, searching for higher angular modes. The $\texttt{TEOBPM}$ model effectively includes non-linearities in the early post-merger signal portion, and carries information about the progenitors parameters through time-dependent excitation amplitudes of the black hole quasinormal modes. Such a strategy allows us to accurately model the full post-merger emission, recovering higher signal-to-noise ratios compared to templates based on more agnostic superpositions of damped-sinusoids. We find weak evidence for the presence of $(l,m)=(3,3)$ [$(l,m)=(2,1)$] mode in several events, with the largest Bayes factor in favour of this mode being $\mathcal{B}\simeq 2.6$ [$\mathcal{B}\simeq 1.2$] within the peak time distribution support. For GW190521, we observe $\mathcal{B}\simeq 5.1$, but only for times outside the peak time support reconstructed using the highly accurate $\texttt{NRSur7dq4}$ model, indicating significant systematics affecting such putative detection. Allowing for deviations from general relativity under the assumption of the presence of two modes, we find tentative support for the Kerr "final state conjecture". Our work showcases a systematic methodology to robustly identify and characterise higher angular modes in ringdown-only signals, highlighting the significant impact of modelling assumptions and peak time uncertainty on spectroscopic measurements, at current signal-to-noise ratios., Comment: 38 pages, 14 figures

Abstract: Abstract Background The integration of positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) holds promise for advancing diagnostic imaging capabilities. The METRICS project aims to develop cyclotron-driven production of 52Mn for PET/MRI imaging. Results Using the 52Cr(p,n)52Mn reaction, we designed chromium metal targets via Spark Plasma Sintering and developed a separation procedure for isolating 52Mn. Labeling tests were conducted with traditional chelators (i.e. S-2-(4-Isothiocyanatobenzyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane tetraacetic acid) and the 1.4-dioxa-8-azaspiro[4.5]decane-8- carbodithioate ligand to produce radioactive complexes suitable for PET/MRI applications. Our methodology yielded high-quality 52Mn suitable for PET radiopharmaceuticals and PET/MRI imaging. Preliminary studies on phantom imaging using microPET and clinical MRI demonstrated the efficacy of our approach. Conclusions The developed technology offers a promising avenue for producing 52Mn and enhancing PET/MRI imaging capabilities. Further in vivo investigations are warranted to evaluate the potential advantages of this hybrid imaging technique.

Abstract: Law constitutes the architecture of the governance of global mobility. It regulates the irreducible impulse to move, binding people to territories through the institution of citizenship and limiting the possibilities of crossing international borders. Law can also be mobilised to secure the rights of people on the move. In the Mediterranean various actors interact across a densely entangled legal landscape involving the Law of the sea, fundamental rights and asylum, and public law rules granting control and repressive powers to states for border protection and crime prevention. This article asks if — and under which conditions — law can take on counter-hegemonic qualities in the struggles for freedom of movement. It argues that legal interventions that support migrants on the move can be counter-hegemonic if they combine different approaches regarding the legal responsibility of states and when they support migratory claims to enter European territory without focusing only on the issue of international protection.

Abstract: Abstract Sjogren’s disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disease that is characterized not only by the sicca symptoms it causes but also by its systemic nature, which is capable of several and not yet fully understood extraglandular manifestations. To gain a clearer understanding of these manifestations as well as a better practical approach, a panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the identification of epidemiologic and clinical features of the extraglandular manifestations present in ESSDAI (EULAR Sjogren´s syndrome disease activity index), followed by a voting panel with recommendations for clinical practice. Abstract: We analyse the Coulomb breakup of 19C measured at 67A MeV at RIKEN. We use the Coulomb-Corrected Eikonal (CCE) approximation to model the reaction and describe the one-neutron halo nucleus 19C within Halo Effective Field Theory (EFT). At leading order we obtain a fair reproduction of the measured cross section as a function of energy and angle. The description is insensitive to the choice of optical potential, as long as it accurately represents the size of 18C. It is also insensitive to the interior of the 19C wave function. Comparison between theory and experiment thus enables us to infer asymptotic properties of the ground state of 19C: these data put constraints on the one-neutron separation energy of this nucleus and, for a given binding energy, can be used to extract an asymptotic normalisation coefficient (ANC). These results are confirmed by CCE calculations employing next-to-leading order Halo EFT descriptions of 19C: at this order the results for the Coulomb breakup cross section are completely insensitive to the choice of the regulator. 31. Ab initio no-core shell model description of $^{10-14}$C isotopes

Abstract: We present a systematic study of the $^{10-14}\text{C}$ isotopes within the \textit{ab initio} no-core shell model theory. We apply four different realistic nucleon-nucleon (NN) interactions: (i) the charge-dependent Bonn 2000 (CDB2K) potential (ii) the inside non-local outside Yukawa (INOY) potential (iii) the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) potential, and (iv) the optimized next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^2$LO$_{opt}$) potential. We report the low-lying energy spectra of both positive and negative parity states for the $^{10-14}\text{C}$ isotopes and investigate the level structures. We also calculate electromagnetic properties such as transition strengths, quadrupole and magnetic moments. The dependence of point-proton radii on the harmonic oscillator frequency and basis space is shown. We present calculations of the translation invariant one-body density matrix in the no-core shell model and discuss isotopic trends in the density distribution. The maximum basis space reached is $10 \hbar \Omega$ for $^{10}\text{C}$ and $8 \hbar \Omega$ for $^{11-14}\text{C}$, with a maximum M-scheme dimension of $1.3 \times 10^{9}$ for $^{10}\text{C}$. Abstract: The Family Life Space (FLS) is a graphic instrument that may aid the relational assessment of families. This interactive instrument involves all members of the family in a joint task, that of collectively making a drawing of their own family system and it allows the gathering of information related to the overall family organization. The FLS was originally conceived by Danuta Mostwin in the early 70s and used as an instrument for clinical intervention. After having been applied to several contexts, the present contribution aims at presenting the key indicators to use the instrument as a tool for assessing family relations. Specifically, the characteristics of the instrument that allow the gathering of relevant information at the individual, relational, and family level will be outlined. For each of these levels, the data regarding the quantity and quality of the elements in the drawing that define the family space (i.e., the number and graphic quality of the actual elements in the drawing) as well the quantity and quality of the relationships among family members and with their community at large (i.e., the number and type of lines connecting the various elements in the drawing) will be presented. The instrument can therefore provide useful insights on the following constructs: quality of life, power dynamics within the family, feelings of belonging, closeness and/or distance as well as conflict or acknowledgement between family members and the overall attitude family members have toward their context and the critical events they had to face. The application and complete potential of the instrument are further elaborated upon through the presentation of a clinical case. This case not only aids in comprehending the tool’s usage but also enables the collection of psychological information about the family and provides a clinical interpretation of family relationships.

Abstract: Introduction: Advancements in monoclonal antibodies, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) have notably enhanced outcomes for metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer patients. Despite the expanding treatment options and clinical complexities, determining the optimal sequence of HER2-targeted therapies remains partly uncertain, influenced by various factors. Methods: To refine HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer management, particularly regarding tucatinib's position, a Steering Committee of leading oncologists in breast cancer care devised a panel of statements via a Delphi approach, focusing on five key topics: general clinical management, therapeutic approaches for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer and brain metastases, treatment sequence, and tucatinib's safety and efficacy. Results: A total of 29 statements were deliberated, with strong consensus achieved for most. However, no consensus emerged regarding the management of brain progression alongside stable extracranial disease: 48 % advocated for switching to tucatinib, while 53 % favored a stereotactic brain radiotherapy (SBRT) approach if feasible. Conclusion: The unanimous consensus attained in this Delphi panel, particularly regarding tucatinib's efficacy and safety, underscores oncologists' recognition of its clinical significance based on existing trial data. These findings align closely with current literature, shedding light on areas necessitating further investigation, not thoroughly explored in prior studies. Moreover, the results underscore the scarcity of data on managing brain progression alongside stable extracranial disease, emphasizing the imperative for dedicated research to address these gaps and yield definitive insights.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Leishmania (L.) infantum is one of the main causative agents of animal and human leishmaniasis across many endemic areas in South America, Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Despite its clinical significance, little is known about the genetic diversity of L. infantum circulating in a given endemic area. Here, we investigate this important open question by applying a comparative genomics approach to seven L. infantum isolates from different hosts and Italian regions, including the northern part of the country (Emilia-Romagna, RER), Sicily, and Sardinia, as an initial attempt to explore the breadth of parasite genetic heterogeneity in Italy. Additionally, microsatellite analysis was carried out to compare the isolates from RER with other 70 L. infantum strains from the same region as well as 65 strains belonging to the L. donovani complex from other countries. We revealed important karyotypic instability and identified strain-specific changes in gene dosage, which affected important virulence factors such as amastins and surface antigen-like proteins. Single nucleotide polymorphism-based clustering analysis of these genomes together with over 80 publicly available L. infantum and L. donovani genomes placed the Italian isolates into three geographically distinct clusters within the Mediterranean basin and uncovered three isolates clustering with putative L. infantum/L. donovani hybrids isolated in Cyprus. As judged by microsatellite profiling, these hybrid isolates are representative of a sub-population of parasites circulating in northern Italy that preferentially infect humans but not dogs. Our results place Italy at the crossroads of L. infantum infection in the Mediterranean and call attention to the public health risk represented by the introduction of non-European Leishmania species.IMPORTANCEThis study closes important knowledge gaps with respect to Leishmania (L.) infantum genetic heterogeneity in a given endemic country, as exemplified here for Italy, and reveals genetic hybridization as a main cause for re-emerging human leishmaniasis in northern Italy. The observed high diversity of Leishmania parasites on the Italian peninsula suggests different geographical origins, with genomic adaptation to various ecologies affecting both pathogenicity and transmission potential. This is documented by the discovery of a putative L. infantum/L. donovani hybrid strain, which has been shown to preferentially infect humans but not dogs. Our results provide important information to health authorities, which need to consider the public health risk represented by the introduction of new Leishmania species into EU countries due to population displacement or travel from countries where exotic/allochthonous parasite species are endemic.

Abstract: Deep learning models are nowadays broadly deployed to solve an incredibly large variety of tasks. However, little attention has been devoted to connected legal aspects. In 2016, the European Union approved the General Data Protection Regulation which entered into force in 2018. Its main rationale was to protect the privacy and data protection of its citizens by the way of operating of the so-called "Data Economy". As data is the fuel of modern Artificial Intelligence, it is argued that the GDPR can be partly applicable to a series of algorithmic decision making tasks before a more structured AI Regulation enters into force. In the meantime, AI should not allow undesired information leakage deviating from the purpose for which is created. In this work we propose DisP, an approach for deep learning models disentangling the information related to some classes we desire to keep private, from the data processed by AI. In particular, DisP is a regularization strategy de-correlating the features belonging to the same private class at training time, hiding the information of private classes membership. Our experiments on state-of-the-art deep learning models show the effectiveness of DisP, minimizing the risk of extraction for the classes we desire to keep private.

38. Lesion volume and spike frequency on EEG impact perfusion values in focal cortical dysplasia: a pediatric arterial spin labeling study

Abstract: Abstract Arterial spin labelling (ASL), an MRI sequence non-invasively imaging brain perfusion, has yielded promising results in the presurgical workup of children with focal cortical dysplasia (FCD)-related epilepsy. However, the interpretation of ASL-derived perfusion patterns remains unclear. Hence, we compared ASL qualitative and quantitative findings to their clinical, EEG, and MRI counterparts. We included children with focal structural epilepsy related to an MRI-detectable FCD who underwent single delay pseudo-continuous ASL. ASL perfusion changes were assessed qualitatively by visual inspection and quantitatively by estimating the asymmetry index (AI). We considered 18 scans from 15 children. 16 of 18 (89%) scans showed FCD-related perfusion changes: 10 were hypoperfused, whereas six were hyperperfused. Nine scans had perfusion changes larger than and seven equal to the FCD extent on anatomical images. Hyperperfusion was associated with frequent interictal spikes on EEG (p = 0.047). Perfusion changes in ASL larger than the FCD corresponded to larger lesions (p = 0.017). Higher AI values were determined by frequent interictal spikes on EEG (p = 0.004). ASL showed FCD-related perfusion changes in most cases. Further, higher spike frequency on EEG may increase ASL changes in affected children. These observations may facilitate the interpretation of ASL findings, improving treatment management, counselling, and prognostication in children with FCD-related epilepsy.

39. A novel proteomic signature of osteoclast differentiation unveils the deubiquitinase UCHL1 as a necessary osteoclastogenic driver

Abstract: Abstract Bone destruction, a major source of morbidity, is mediated by heightened differentiation and activity of osteoclasts (OC), highly specialized multinucleated myeloid cells endowed with unique bone-resorptive capacity. The molecular mechanisms regulating OC differentiation in the bone marrow are still partly elusive. Here, we aimed to identify new regulatory circuits and actionable targets by comprehensive proteomic characterization of OCgenesis from mouse bone marrow monocytes, adopting two parallel unbiased comparative proteomic approaches. This work disclosed an unanticipated protein signature of OCgenesis, with most gene products currently unannotated in bone-related functions, revealing broad structural and functional cellular reorganization and divergence from macrophagic immune activity. Moreover, we identified the deubiquitinase UCHL1 as the most upregulated cytosolic protein in differentiating OCs. Functional studies proved it essential, as UCHL1 genetic and pharmacologic inhibition potently suppressed OCgenesis. Furthermore, proteomics and mechanistic dissection showed that UCHL1 supports OC differentiation by restricting the anti-OCgenic activity of NRF2, the transcriptional activator of the canonical antioxidant response, through redox-independent stabilization of the NRF2 inhibitor, KEAP1. Besides offering a valuable experimental framework to dissect OC differentiation, our study discloses the essential role of UCHL1, exerted through KEAP1-dependent containment of NRF2 anti-OCgenic activity, yielding a novel potential actionable pathway against bone loss.

Abstract: Objective Primary care practitioners (PCPs) care for the majority of patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Despite the existing evidence‐based guidelines, PCPs often feel unequipped to evaluate and effectively treat patients with KOA. To address this need, we designed and implemented a free internet‐based program focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of KOA. We assessed whether the program led to improvements in participants’ confidence in their knowledge and skills related to effectively recognizing and caring for patients with or at risk of KOA. Methods We used Caffarella's integrative model to develop a program aligned with the American College of Rheumatology 2019 Guideline for the treatment of KOA. The program incorporated 18 case‐based questions to provide retrieval practice and mastery experiences. We assessed changes in participants’ confidence in their KOA knowledge and skills after program completion. Results Of the first 353 learners completing the program, 53.8% were women, 41.9% had a clinical focus in primary care, and 69.1% were nonphysicians. 41. Searching for ringdown higher modes with a numerical relativity-informed post-merger model

Abstract: Abstract Robust measurements of multiple black hole vibrational modes provide a unique opportunity to characterise gravity in extreme curvature and dynamical regimes, to better investigate the nature of compact objects and search for signs of new physics. We use a numerically-tuned quasicircular non-precessing ringdown model, TEOBPM, and the pyRing analysis infrastructure to perform a time-domain spectroscopic analysis of the third catalog of transient gravitational-wave signals, GWTC-3, searching for higher angular modes. The TEOBPM model effectively includes non-linearities in the early post-merger signal portion, and carries information about the progenitors parameters through time-dependent excitation amplitudes of the black hole quasinormal modes. Such a strategy allows us to accurately model the full post-merger emission, recovering higher signal-to-noise ratios compared to templates based on more agnostic superpositions of damped-sinusoids. We find weak evidence for the presence of $$(l,m)=(3,3)$$ ( l , m ) = ( 3 , 3 ) [ $$(l,m)=(2,1)$$ ( l , m ) = ( 2 , 1 ) ] mode in several events, with the largest Bayes factor in favour of this mode being $${\mathcal {B}} \simeq 2.6$$ B ≃ 2.6 [ $${\mathcal {B}} \simeq 1.2$$ B ≃ 1.2 ] within the support of the peak time distribution. For GW190521, we observe $$ {\mathcal {B}} \simeq 5.1$$ B ≃ 5.1 , but only for times outside the peak time support reconstructed using the highly accurate NRSur7dq4 model, indicating significant systematics affecting such putative detection. Allowing for deviations from general relativity under the assumption of the presence of two modes, we find tentative support for the Kerr “final state conjecture”. Our work showcases a systematic methodology to robustly identify and characterise higher angular modes in ringdown-only signals, highlighting the significant impact of modelling assumptions and peak time uncertainty on spectroscopic measurements, at current signal-to-noise ratios.

Abstract: Physical activity breaks in the classroom are an efficient way of promoting healthy behaviors in students, enhancing the development of their cognitive and academic abilities. The effects of active breaks, which are exclusive to the academic environment, are sometimes conflicting. This research was carried out to identify the properties and consequences of active breaks and physical activity during classes in school age. We have examined multiple databases, and we have selected 41 papers accounting for a time span of 15 years. Most papers revealed positive outcomes for improving skills related to mathematics, language, reading, comprehension, as well as cognitive and executive functions. Overall, the results of this review corroborate the theory that physical education in schools is positively associated with academic performance in children. Schools are suitable for promoting physical activity in developmental age, and research shows that there are instances in which increasing it could be beneficial. Physical activity in the classroom allows children to be active at school. To achieve these results, teachers can integrate physical activity into traditional classes, thus making them physically active. However, some teachers criticized this teaching method stating that physical activity during classes might have a negative effect on the children’s behavior during assignments. Education researchers keep investigating in order to fully assess the positive impact on academic performance, behavior during classes and cognitive functions.

Abstract: Abstract The need for a more sustainable agri-food system is a topic that has attracted growing interest in recent years. Several international and European policies such as Agenda 2030 and the European Green Deal have been defined with the aim of making agri-food systems more sustainable at all stages of the supply chain, from production to consumption. Particularly, the European Union concentrates several policies on it. Therefore, the assessment of the level of sustainability among the states of the European Union is a key aspect to properly address and evaluate the implementation of these policies. The objective of this paper is to measure the sustainability of the global agri-food supply chain (AFSC) of the European Union countries through the application of a multi-criteria analysis. In particular, the method used is the Multiple Reference Point Partially Compensatory Indicator, which allows the creation of composite indicators using different levels of compensation across them. A set of 50 indicators, referred to 2011 and 2019, were built and then divided into the three basic dimensions of sustainability (economic, social and environmental), aggregated into the four main AFSC sectors (agriculture, food industry, distribution, and consumption) in order to obtain an overall sustainability index. Through such an index we provided a sustainability ranking for the EU countries, while the analysis of dimensions of each sector contributed to increase the knowledge about the supply chain that can be used by decision-makers. According to the results, Italy achieved the best level of sustainability of the AFSC with a value of 48.53, followed by Sweden, Austria, Spain, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Slovakia. In relation to the different sectors, the biggest problems were observed in the consumption sector, where most countries did not perform well, especially for the social dimension (e.g. excess of overweight and obese persons). In contrast, the performance of the agricultural sector was good, with few exceptions, showing a fair state of sustainability.

Abstract: Objectives: To date, studies have not provided definitive answers regarding whether previous immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment alters outcomes for cancer patients with COVID-19. Methods: The OnCovid registry (NCT04393974) was searched from February 27, 2020, to January 31, 2022, for patients who received systemic anti-cancer therapy in the 4 weeks before laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis. Propensity-score matching using country, vaccination status, primary tumor type, sex, age, comorbidity burden, tumor stage, and remission status investigated differences in predefined clinical outcomes comparing those who had or had not received ICIs. Results: Of 3523 patients screened, 137 ICI-only and 1378 non-ICI met inclusion criteria. Before matching, ICI patients were older, male, enrolled at centers in Italy, and had histories of smoking, thoracic cancers, advanced cancer stages, and active malignancies (P ≤0.02). After matching, there were 120 ICI and 322 non-ICI patients. ICI patients had no differences (odds ratio: 95% CI) in presenting COVID-19 symptoms (0.69: 0.37-1.28), receipt of COVID-specific therapy (0.88: 0.54-1.41), 14-day (0.95: 0.56-1.61), or 28-day (0.79: 0.48-1.29) mortalities. However, ICI patients required less COVID-19-related hospitalization (0.37: 0.21-0.67) and oxygen therapy (0.51: 0.31-0.83) and developed fewer complications (0.57: 0.36-0.92). Conclusion: In this propensity-score matched analysis, previous ICI therapy did not worsen and potentially improved COVID-19 outcomes in patients with cancer.

Abstract: The data presented in this article are an update of the dataset provided by Musazzi et al. [1] and are related to the research article entitled “Equivalence assessment of creams with quali-quantitative differences in light of the EMA and FDA regulatory framework” [2]. In vitro permeation study (IVPT) is typically conducted using the method of Franz's diffusion cell for assessing the biopharmaceutical performance of topically applied products. While the human epidermis is considered the benchmark, various animal models (for instance, pig ear) have been accepted as a permeation membrane. Nonetheless, it is crucial to evaluate the integrity of the membrane to ensure the quality of the experiments. The methods employed for this assessment vary, and the outcomes are heavily reliant on the operational conditions, and the model membrane. The article contributes to the existing dataset by providing data on the electrical resistance values of pig ear skin samples and their correlation with the in vitro permeability fluxes of caffeine and benzoic acid. This data is utilized to determine a suitable cut-off for verifying the skin integrity of such an animal model. This information could be beneficial for facilitating critical or comprehensive analyses, contributing to the creation of a standard method.
