24. Surface-Pt-rich AgPtAu trimetallic nanotrough arrays for boosting alcohol electrooxidation.

Abstract

To develop high-performance low-Pt electrocatalysts for direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFCs), we herein propose an interfacial engineering strategy, using interfacial Ag nanowire arrays as a sacrificing template and successfully fabricating a AgPtAu nanotrough array catalyst at water/air interfaces. By adjusting the conditions of interfacial reaction, composition-varied AgPtAu nanotrough arrays can be easily obtained. The formation of a trough-like morphology of AgPtAu can be attributed to the interface-confined Ag nanowire arrays reacting successively with PtCl62− and AuCl4− in the water phase. Optimized surface-Pt-rich Ag11Pt5Au84 nanotrough arrays exhibit ∼2270 and ∼2290 mA mgAu+Pt−1 in the mass activity towards methanol and ethanol electrooxidation, respectively, ∼3 times better than that of commercial Pt/C, and show improved tolerance towards CO-like carbonaceous intermediates. This work suggests that properly combining the positive catalytic effects of morphology and composition may be a possible avenue to tackle the issue of low-Pt electrocatalysts for DAFCs. Abstract

Methionine is an essential amino acid involved in many physiological and pathological processes. Methionine starvation caused by methionine decarboxylase (MetDC) degradation becomes a promising strategy for cancer treatment. Multistep colorimetric method, the present approach to monitor the MetDC activity, possesses drawbacks of the complicated process, low accuracy, and poor anti‐interference due to indirect detection. Herein, we report a facile and easy‐to‐use supramolecular tandem assay (STA) with the cucurbit[7]uril and acridine orange reporter pair for the direct and real‐time monitoring of MetDC activity. This strategy not only provides a feasible method for enzymatic activity detection but also establishes the capability of inhibitor screening. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder with substantial morbidity. However, the reliable, non-invasive, and specific diagnosis of GERD remains a challenge due to the lack of specific symptoms and imaging features. Herein, we report a supramolecular tandem assay through using a reporter pair of sulfonatocalix[4]arene and lucigenin for the sensitive and real-time detection of saliva pepsin, an ideal biomarker for GERD. Moreover, we achieve the detection of pepsin in commercial artificial saliva, demonstrating the potential of this supramolecular approach for point-of-care testing of GERD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used in clinical diagnosis. In recent years, activatable MRI probes responding to specific changes in their microenvironment have been developed. The signal of the MRI probe can be modulated based on supramolecular design, which can include properties such as self‐assembly and molecular recognition. In this review, we summarize the activatable MRI probes based on the design principles of supramolecular chemistry. 50. Engineering one-dimensional trough-like Au–Ag2S nano-hybrids for plasmon-enhanced photoelectrodetection of human α-thrombin.

Abstract

One-dimensional (1D) morphology-unique Au–Ag2S nano-hybrids are achieved by combining the interfacial self-assembly of Ag nanowires, interface-oriented site-specific etching of Ag nanowires with AuCl4−, and the sulfurization of S2−. The as-formed Au–Ag2S nano-hybrid has a trough-like morphology. The wall of the Au–Ag2S nanotrough is a Ag2S/Au/Ag2S trilayer wall, but the Ag2S layer is a Ag2S-rich mixture of Ag2S and Au rather than pure Ag2S because of the diffusion of Au atoms towards Ag2S. The Au–Ag2S nanotrough shows strong absorption in the visible region (400–800 nm) and exhibits a favorable photoelectrochemical (PEC) response, the photocurrent of which is ∼8.5 times larger than that of pure Ag2S. This enhanced PEC response originates from the localized plasmonic resonance effect of Au. Moreover, the PEC biosensor based on the Au–Ag2S nanotroughs shows high sensitivity and selectivity, satisfactory reproducibility, and good stability towards human α-thrombin (TB) detection: a sensitive linear response ranging from 1.00 to 10.00 pmol L−1 and a low detection limit of 0.67 pmol L−1. This study provides a new model for studying the PEC behavior of plasmonic metal/semiconductor materials, and this Au–Ag2S nanotrough may also be useful in the fields of photocatalysis and photovoltaics.
