The precise type locality of Depressaria spectrocentra Meyrick, 1935, which had been uncertain for many years, was identified as Chikuzen Okinoshima in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Zizyphia cleodorella Chrétien, 1908 is reported as new to Spain and Europe. The genus Zizyphia and the species Z. cleodorella is diagnosed and its separation from the closely related Z. zizyphella Amsel, 1935 is elaborated. The adult habitus and genital structure, and the species’ habitat are illustrated. The systematic position of the genus is discussed. Because Orophiinae Lvovsky, 1974 is a secondary homonym of Orophiini Thomson, 1863 (Coleoptera: Ciidae), and Cryptolechiinae is considered here as being unrelated to it, the name Cacochroini Leraut, 1993 is reinstated as a valid family-group name as Cacochroinae within Depressariidae (Gelechioidea), with Eutornini Lvovsky, 2019, syn. nov. as a subjective junior synonym of Cacochroini.

The lecithocerid genus Woonpaikia Park, 2010 and Woonpaikia angoonae Park, 2010 are newly recorded from China. Woonpaikia similangoonae Yu & Wang, sp. nov. and W. imperspicua Yu & Wang, sp. nov. are described as new to science. Se entrega una lista de especies de la familia Oecophoridae recolectadas entre 2011 y 2023, en un remanente de bosque esclerófilo ubicado en la comuna de Chimbarongo, Provincia de Colchagua, Región del Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, Chile. Se documenta la presencia de 31 especies pertenecientes a 16 géneros; 16 especies se registran por primera vez para esta zona.

A new species of the genus Agonopterix Hübner (Lepidoptera: Depressariidae), A. asebiella Arashima, Yagi & Hirowatari sp. nov., has been described in Japan. Images of the imagoes and the male and female genitalia and partial details of the biology are provided with similar species for comparison.

The genus Opacoptera Gozmány, 1978 is reviewed. Four species are described as new: O. condensata sp. nov., O. hybocentra sp. nov., O. introflexa sp. nov. and O. longissima sp. nov. The purpose of this application, under Article 23.9.3 of the Code, is to conserve at superfamily level the usage of the family-group name Gelechioidea Stainton, 1854. The name is threatened by three senior family-group names described by Bruand, 1850 [1851], currently considered as valid families in the same superfamily as Gelechiidae: Oecophoridae, Elachistidae and Coleophoridae, which are thus subjective senior synonyms at the superfamily level. Strict application of the Principle of Priority would result in confusion as the superfamily name Gelechioidea has been almost universally used for this very diverse and economically important group of Lepidoptera. Antiochtha is a genus of the family Lecithoceridae characterized by the forewing with veins M2 and M3 coincident, the hindwing with vein M2 absent, and the male genitalia with the valva narrowed from base to apex. The genus comprises 23 species and is mainly distributed in the Oriental Region. In this paper, we describe three new species: Antiochtha erromera sp. nov., A. hainanensis sp. nov. and A. miniscula sp. nov., and propose a new synonym, A. rotunda Zhu & Li, 2009 syn. nov., of A. jianfengensis Zhu & Li, 2009. Antiochtha semialis Park, 2002 is newly recorded in China and its female is described for the first time.

The mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Coleophora therinella Tengström, 1848 is the first report for the family Coleophoridae in Lepidoptera. The 15,539-bp long complete genome has an arrangement identical to that observed in most lepidopteran genomes. COI had the atypical CGA codon that is frequently found in the start region of the lepidopteran COI, and COII had the GTG codon found previously in Drosophila yakuba ND5 and Rattus norvegicus ND1. The 457-bp long A + T-rich region was the second largest, next to Blastobasis lacticolella, which belongs to Blastobasidae in the superfamily Gelechioidea. The A/T content of the whole mitogenome was 80.7%; however, it varied among the regions/genes as follows: A + T-rich region, 94.8%; srRNA, 85.0%; lrRNA, 84.3%; tRNAs, 81.5%; and PCGs, 78.9%. Phylogenetic analyses with concatenated sequences of the 13 PCGs and two RNA genes using the maximum likelihood method, placed Coleophoridae, represented only by C. therinella, as the most basal lineage of the Gelechioidea families consisted of Stathmopodidae, Scythrididae, Blastobasidae, Autostichidae, and Oecophoridae, but nodal support for this grouping was very low (27%). Currently, several families of Gelechioidea are represented by a single species. Thus, extended sampling is required for further reasonable inference for the relationships of these families.

Blastobasis inderskella Caradja, 1920, is transferred from Blastobasidae to Gelechiidae and placed in the Palaearctic genus Holcophora Staudinger, 1871. The genus Aponoea Walsingham, 1905, syn. n., is newly synonymized with Holcophora, and three new combinations are proposed: Holcophora inderskella (Caradja, 1920), comb. n., H. obtusipalpis (Walsingham, 1905), comb. n. and H. pruinosella (Chrétien, 1915), comb. n. Lectotypes are designated for Holcophora statices Staudinger, 1871, and Aponoea obtusipalpis Walsingham, 1905. Holcophora inderskella is redescribed with supportive images of diagnostic features. Its unique frontal process is described and illustrated and aspects of frontal processes in Gelechiidae are discussed.

A partir de adultos recolectados directamente y de la crianza de larvas obtenidas en brotes de Podocarpus spp. (Podocarpaceae), se describe a Magniophaga nuevo género de Depressariidae del centro-sur de Chile. Este género incluye a Magniophaga variabilis sp. nov., cuyas larvas se alimentan de los brotes nuevos de “mañío de hojas largas” (Podocarpus salignus D. Don) y de “mañío de hojas punzantes” (Podocarpus nubigenus Lindley). Se presentan caracteres diagnósticos del nuevo género y especie, se ilustra el adulto, abdomen, las estructuras genitales del macho y de la hembra y se proporcionan antecedentes biológicos de la especie. Con este descubrimiento se incrementa a 14 géneros y 33 especies de Depressariidae presentes en Chile.

A partir de ejemplares adultos recolectados en el sur de Chile, se describe a Doina arriagadai sp. nov. Se presentan caracteres diagnósticos y se ilustra el adulto, abdomen y genitalia de la especie.

Stathmopoda ficivora Kasy was identified based on a female specimen collected in the late of June 2013 in Dorbadam protected area, N. Ghuchan, Khorasan-e Razavi Province. This species is newly reported for the fauna of Iran. A brief taxonomic characterization of the species is provided and the examined adult female and its genitalia are figured.

Se describe una nueva especie de Autostichidae, Eraina nahuelbuta sp. nov., a partir de ejemplares recolectados en la cordillera de Nahuelbuta, Provincia de Malleco, Región de La Araucanía. Se presentan caracteres de diagnóstico para la especie, fotografías del adulto, ilustraciones de las estructuras genitales del macho y de la hembra, y una clave para la determinación de las especies del género Eraina.

Sixteen new species of the genus Meleonoma Meyrick, 1914 from Hainan Island, China are described: M. apicicurvata Wang, sp. nov., M. apicirectangula Wang, sp. nov., M. bicuspidata Wang, sp. nov., M. bidentata Wang, sp. nov., M. conica Wang, sp. nov., M. hainanensis Wang, sp. nov., M. latiunca Wang, sp. nov., M. linearis Wang, sp. nov., M. magnidentata Wang, sp. nov., M. ornithorrhyncha Wang, sp. nov., M. parilis Wang, sp. nov., M. pectinalis Wang, sp. nov., M. puncticulata Wang, sp. nov., M. quadritaeniata Wang, sp. nov., M. robustispina Wang, sp. nov. and M. rostellata Wang, sp. nov. Images of adult dorsal habitus and genitalia of the new species are provided. The superfamily Gelechioidea (Lepidoptera: Obtectomera) has a high species diversity. It consists of more than 18,400 described species and has a global distribution. Among it, large numbers of species were reported to be economically important to people's production and life. However, relationships among families or subfamilies in Gelechioidea have been exceptionally difficult to resolve using morphology or single gene genealogies. Multiple gene genealogies had been used in the molecular phylogenetic studies on Gelechioidea during the past years, but their phylogenetic relationships remain to be controversial mainly due to their limited taxa sampling relative to such high species diversity. In this paper, 89 ingroup species representing 55 genera are sequenced and added to the data downloaded from GenBank, and six species representing four closely related superfamilies are chosen as outgroup. The molecular phylogeny of Gelechioidea is reconstructed based on the concatenated data set composed of one mitochondrial marker (COI) and seven nuclear markers (CAD, EF‐1ɑ, GAPDH, IDH, MDH, RpS5, wingless). The phylogenetic results, taking into consideration of the comparative morphological study, show that the clade of Gelechioidea is strongly supported and separated from other superfamilies, which further proves its monophyly. Five families are newly defined: Autostichidae sensu nov., Depressariidae sensu nov., Peleopodidae sensu nov., Ashinagidae sensu nov. and Epimarptidae sensu nov. Meanwhile, a monophyletic "SSABM" clade considered to be closely related is proposed for the first time, consisting of Stathmopodidae, Scythrididae, Ashinagidae, Blastobasidae and Momphidae. Moreover, geometric morphometric analyses using merged landmark data set from fore and hind wings of 118 representative species are conducted. The phenetic tree shows that the monophyly and phylogenetic relationships correspond with the results of molecular phylogeny largely, which well proves its importance and potential application in both phylogenetic reconstruction and species identification. Up to the present, 13 species of the genus Promalactis Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Oecophoridae) have been recorded in Japan. Based on specimens collected from Kyushu and Honshu, Japan, a new species, Promalactis squamijuxta sp. nov. is described. [Display omitted] • The most comprehensive Stathmopodidae phylogeny to date, focusing on fern-spore-feeding Cuprininae. • Systematic revision of Cuprininae enhances understanding of insect-fern interactions, diverging from angiosperm-centric studies. • Despite fern spores being rare niche for Lepidoptera, no significant differences in Speciation/Extinction/State-transition rates between fern-spore feeders and others. • State-transition rate differs between specialists and oligophages; faster transition from oligophages to specialists observed. Fern-spore-feeding (FSF) is rare and found in only four families of Lepidoptera. Stathmopodidae is the most speciose family that contains FSF species, and its subfamily Cuprininae exclusively specializes on FSF. However, three species of Stathmopodinae also specialize on FSF. To better understand the evolutionary history of FSF and, more generally, the significance of specialization on a peculiar host, a phylogenetic and taxonomic revision for this group is necessary. We reconstructed the most comprehensive molecular phylogeny, including one mitochondrial and four nuclear genes, of Stathmopodidae to date, including 137 samples representing 62 species, with a particular focus on the FSF subfamily, Cuprininae, including 33 species (41% of named species) from 6 of the 7 Cuprininae genera. Species from two other subfamilies, Stathmopodinae and Atkinsoniinae, were also included. We found that FSF evolved only once in Stathmopodidae and that the previous hypothesis of multiple origins of FSF was misled by inadequate taxonomy. Moreover, we showed that (1) speciation/extinction rates do not differ significantly between FSF and non-FSF groups and that (2) oligophage is the ancestral character state in Cuprininae. We further revealed that a faster rate of accumulating specialists over time, and thus a higher number of specialists, was achieved by a higher transition rate from oligophagages to specialists compared to the transition rate in the opposite direction. We finish by describing three new genera, Trigonoda gen. nov. , Petala gen. nov. , and Pediformis gen. nov. , and revalidating five genera: Cuprina , Calicotis , Thylacosceles , Actinoscelis , Thylacosceloides in Cuprininae, and we provide an updated taxonomic key to genera and a revised global checklist of Cuprininae. Rhodomyrtus tomentosa is a perennial shrub native to Southeast Asia and is invasive in South Florida and Hawai’i, USA. During surveys of R. tomentosa in Hong Kong from 2013–2018 for potential biological control agents, we collected larvae of the stem borer, Casmara subagronoma. Larvae were shipped in stems to a USDA-ARS quarantine facility where they were reared and subjected to biology studies and preliminary host range examinations. Casmara subagronoma is the most recent Casmara species to be described from males collected in Vietnam and Indonesia. Because the original species description was based on only two male specimens, we also provide a detailed description of the female, egg, larva, and pupa. Finally, we conducted preliminary host range trials utilizing Myrtus communis, Myrcianthes fragrans, and Camellia sinensis. Casmara subagronoma emerged from M. fragrans, a Florida-native shrub, and larvae were able to survive in non-target stems for over a year (>400 days). Based on these findings and difficulty in rearing, we do not believe C. subagronoma is a suitable insect for biological control of R. tomentosa at this time, but may warrant further study. This investigation also illustrates the importance of host surveys for conservation and taxonomic purposes.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Promalactis odaiensis is described in this study. The mitogenome is 15,733 base pairs with 13 protein coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a 679 bp AT-rich region. The overall base composition was 79.43% AT and 20.57% GC. Among 13 PCGs, eleven genes (Nad2, Atp8, Atp6, Cox3, Nad3, Nad5, Nad4, Nad4L, Nad6, CYTB, and Nad1) harbour the typical stop codon TAA or TAG, whereas remaining two genes (Cox1, Cox2) terminated with T.

In the present study, we determined the complete mitogenome of Opisina arenosella, the first for the family Xyloryctidae. This mitochondrial genome contains 15,389 bp, with an A + T content of 80.5% and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region (GenBank accession no. MK467611). The genome size, gene arrangement, A + T content, codon usage, and secondary structures of 22 transfer RNA genes of the O. arenosella mitogenome were similar to those of other sequenced Gelechioids. Bayesian analyses performed using the mitogenomes of O. arenosella and other 13 species of Gelechioidea.
