Für die Entwicklung neuer Polymerwerkstoffe ist ein hohes Niveau an steifem und gleichzeitig zähem Materialverhalten von großer Bedeutung. Die kombinierte Einarbeitung von steifen als auch weichen Füllstoffen in eine Polymermatrix zu ternären Stoffsystemen kann hierbei die Steifigkeit/Zähigkeits-Eigenschaften deutlich anheben. Entscheidend für das resultierende Materialverhalten sind neben den Füllstoffeigenschaften und -anteilen eine gute Haftung und Dispergierung der Füllstoffe in der Polymermatrix. Diese hängen sehr stark von der Verarbeitbarkeit und Kompatibilität der Füllstoffe mit der Matrix ab. In dieser Arbeit erfolgte die Optimierung von Steifigkeit/Zähigkeits-Eigenschaften von Polyamid 6. Mittels Schmelzextrusion erfolgte die Einarbeitung nanoskalig strukturierter Füllstoffe in Ultramid® B27 und B40 von BASF. Nanofüllstoffe versprechen schon bei geringen Füllgraden neue Möglichkeiten in der Morphologieausbildung und somit die Nutzung neuer Eigenschaftsfelder der resultierenden Verbundwerkstoffe. Zur Steigerung der Materialsteifigkeit wurden zwei unterschiedlich modifizierte Schichtsilikat-Typen von der Firma Rockwood Clay Additives verwendet. Eine Kompensation der zähen Eigenschaften erfolgte durch den Einsatz eines nanoskalig strukturierten Polyamid 6/Polyether-Blockcopolymers (Nyrim®) der Firma BrüggemannChemicals. Nach einer Analyse und Optimierung der 2-Stoffsysteme erfolgte der Transfer der Erkenntnisse zur Entwicklung eines 3-Stoffsystems. Für das 2-Stoffsystem PA 6 und Schichtsilikat konnte nach einer Optimierung des Herstellungsprozesses ein hoher Exfolierungsgrad unter der Verwendung des Schichtsilikates Cloisite® 93A erzielt werden. E-Modul und Streckspannung von Ultramid® B40 konnten bei einem Füllstoffgehalt von 11 M.-% um 85 % bzw. 35 % gesteigert werden. Ferner belegen morphologische Untersuchungen die Einflussnahme des polaren Schichtsilikates auf die Strukturausbildung des PA 6. Mit zunehmendem Füllstoffgehalt ist die Entstehung der weniger dicht gepackten γ-Modifikation sowie eine Abnahme der Kristallisationskinetik zu beobachten. Hinsichtlich der Steigerung der zähen Eigenschaften von PA 6 stellte sich der Einsatz eines Nyrim® 3000 als effektivstes Weichphasenmaterial heraus. Der Polyetheranteil bei diesem Blockcopolymer beträgt 30 M.-%. Bereits bei einem Füllstoffgehalt von 16,7 M.-% Nyrim® 3000 als partikuläre Weichphase konnte die Schlagzähigkeit von Ultramid® B40 um 450 % gesteigert werden. Darüber hinaus zeigt sich aufgrund der hohen Affinität des Nyrim® 3000 zu PA 6 eine hohe Füllstoff/Matrix-Haftung sowie eine feine Dispergierung mit weichen Domänen kleiner 100 nm. Bei der Herstellung des 3-Stoffsystems interagierte die Weichphase sehr stark mit dem Schichtsilikat, was sich durch einen niedrigen Exfolierungsgrad des Schichtsilikates darstellte. Durch eine Vorkonfektionierung des Schichtsilikates in einem PA 6-Masterbatch konnte diese negative Wechselwirkung aufgehoben werden. Auf Basis der zudosierten Füllstoffanteile kann das zähe bzw. steife Materialverhalten der 3-Stoffsysteme individuell eingestellt werden. Hinsichtlich einer ausgewogenen Balance zwischen Steifigkeit und Zähigkeit stellte sich in dieser Arbeit das 3-Stoffsystem mit 8 M.-% Cloisite® 93A und 16,7 M.-% Nyrim® 3000 als am effektivsten heraus. Der E-Modul konnte hierbei um 40 %, die Streckspannung um 5 % sowie die Schlagzähigkeit um 317 % gesteigert werden. Ferner konnte in Bezug auf das Spannungs-Dehnungs-Diagramm das Materialverhalten im Vergleich zu PA 6 deutlich angehoben werden., With respect to the development of new polymers, a high level of stiff and simultaneously tough material behaviour is of great importance. The fabrication of ternary systems, incorporating stiff as well as tough filler materials in a polymeric matrix, can enhance the stiffness/toughness-properties significantly. Along with filler properties and contents, good adhesion and dispersion characteristics of the fillers in the polymeric matrix are critical for the resulting material behaviour. The dispersion and adhesion characteristics strongly depend on the processability and compatibility of fillers with the respective matrix. In this study, the stiffness/toughness-properties of polyamide 6 (PA 6) were optimised. By means of melt extrusion, nano-structured fillers were incorporated in Ultramid® B27 and B40 from BASF. Already at low filler contents, nano-structured materials promise new possibilities in terms of morphology development and therefore the use of new composite properties. For stiffness enhancement of PA 6, two different modified organoclay materials from Rockwood Clay Additives were used. To compensate for the toughness properties, a nano-structured polyamide 6/polyether block copolymer (Nyrim®) from BrüggemannChemicals was applied. Following an analysis and optimisation of the binary material systems, the knowledge was transferred to develop a ternary material system. In case of the binary material system PA 6 and organoclay, a high degree of exfoliation was obtained subsequently to an optimisation of the extrusion process by use of the clay material Cloisite® 93A. At a filler content of 11 mass-% of Cloisite® 93A Young’s modulus and tensile strength of PA 6 could be increased by 85 % and 35 %, respectively. Furthermore, morphological analyses show the influence of the polar filler surfaces on the structure formation of PA 6. With increasing filler content, the development of the less densely packed γ-modification as well as the decrease of the crystallization rate was observed. With regard to the toughness properties of PA 6, the incorporation of Nyrim® 3000 soft phase particles proved to be most effective. The polyether content within this block copolymer amounts for 30 % by mass. Already at a particle content of 16.7 mass-% of Nyrim® 3000, the impact behaviour of PA 6 was increased by 450 %. Additionally, due to a high affinity of Nyrim® 3000 and PA 6, a good filler/matrix-bonding as well as a fine dispersion with Nyrim® 3000 soft domains smaller than 100 nm was noticed. Regarding the development of the ternary material system, a strong interaction between the soft phase and the organoclay was observed, leading to a lower degree of exfoliation. This negative interaction was suppressed by means of organoclay pre-conditioning in a PA 6-masterbatch. Based on the filler contents, the stiffness/toughness-behaviour of the ternary material systems could be adjusted individually. Concerning a balanced relation between stiff and tough properties, the ternary material system with 8 mass-% of Cloisite® 93A and 16.7 mass-% of Nyrim® 3000 turned out to yield the best performance. In this case, the Young’s modulus was increased by 40 %, the tensile strength by 5 % and the impact strength by 317 %. Moreover, the material behaviour in the stress-strain-diagram was improved considerably in comparison with PA 6.
