1. Redefining requirements of ancillary services for technology agnostic sources

Abstract

New sources for ancillary services are needed, yet the requirements for service provision in most countries are explicitly formulated for traditional generators. This leads to waste of the potential for new technologies to deliver ancillary services. In order to harness this potential, we propose to parameterize the requirements of ancillary services so that reserves can be built by combining the advantageous properties of different technologies. The proposal is exemplified through a laboratory test where it shown that the system needs can be covered through cheaper and smaller reserves.

Abstract

To address the emerging threat of climate change, consumers must transition to sustainable transportation. The electrification of the transport sector through e-mobility poses new challenges and uncertainties for grid operators. Without efficient prior measures, grid development problems will inevitably arise, causing a need for costly grid expansions. To ensure a technically and economically successful transition to electric vehicles, grid operators need modern, digital tools that enable the investigation of a variety of future scenarios. At present, these tools only exist in a simulation environment, where multiple assumptions are made to obtain feasible results. This poses a high risk, as operators must design and maintain distribution grids in advance and based on clear-cut scenarios.

Abstract

This paper presents a methodology for collaboratively designing laboratory experiments and developing key performance indicators for the testing and validation of novel power system control architectures in multiple laboratory environments. The contribution makes use of the smart grid architecture model (SGAM) as it facilitates the integration of individually developed control functions into a consolidated solution for laboratory validation and testing. The experimental results obtained across multiple laboratories can be efficiently compared, when the proposed methodology is adopted and thus the paper offers means of support for improved cooperation in smart grid validation and round robin testing.

Abstract

In this paper we present an approach for the integration of cyberse-curity tools from multiple domains into an overall risk assessment framework which takes the complex interactions between domains in smart grid systems into account. The approach is based on generating hypotheses from a template, which are then analyzed for their probability and associated impact on the system. The feasibility of the proposed approach is discussed using a very simple example case to serve as a proof of concept. Abstract

The aim of the SOLETE dataset is to support researchers in the meteorological, solar and wind power forecasting fields. Particularly, co-located wind and solar installations have gained relevance due to the rise of hybrid power plants and systems. The dataset has been recorded in SYSLAB, a laboratory for distributed energy resources located in Denmark. A meteorological station, an 11 kW wind turbine and a 10 kW PV array have been used to record measurements, transferred to a central server. The dataset includes 15 months of measurements from the 1st June 2018 to 1st September 2019 covering: Timestamp, air temperature, relative humidity, pressure, wind speed, wind direction, global horizontal irradiance, plane of array irradiance, and active power recorded from both the wind turbine and the PV inverter. The data was recorded at 1 Hz sampling rate and averaged over 5 min and hourly intervals. In addition, there are three Python source code files accompanying the data file. RunMe.py is a code example for importing the data. MLForecasting.py is a self-contained example on how to use the data to build physics-informed machine learning models for solar PV power forecasting.
