In mines with deep levels and those exhibiting anomalous geothermal temperatures, high geothermal environments can affect the erosion process of waterlogged coal by immersion. To study the influence of a high geothermal environment regarding the self-ignition of waterlogged coal, immersion of the coals in aqueous solutions under various temperature conditions (room temperature 20 °C, 40 °C, 60 °C and 80°) for 30 days. Low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, infrared spectroscopy, and simultaneous thermal analysis were utilized to examine the alterations in the micro physicochemical structure and oxidation process of waterlogged coal samples at room temperature and high geothermal temperature. Compared with room temperature conditions, the high geothermal environment increased the number and volume of pores in the waterlogged coal, broke intermolecular hydrogen bonds, and increased the total number of reactive groups. These microstructural changes affected the oxidation process of the waterlogged coal, causing in the oxidation characteristic temperature points on the TG and DSC curves as well as the activation energies E of the second and third stages of TG being significantly lower than those of the waterlogged coal under room temperature conditions. This study suggests that the high geothermal environment enhances the spontaneous combustion tendency of waterlogged coal and accelerates its oxidation process.

Abstract Fundus neovascularization diseases are a series of blinding eye diseases that seriously impair vision worldwide. Currently, the means of treating these diseases in clinical practice are continuously evolving and have rapidly revolutionized treatment opinions. However, key issues such as inadequate treatment effectiveness, high rates of recurrence, and poor patient compliance still need to be urgently addressed. Multifunctional nanomedicine can specifically respond to both endogenous and exogenous microenvironments, effectively deliver drugs to specific targets and participate in activities such as biological imaging and the detection of small molecules. Nano-in-micro (NIM) delivery systems such as metal, metal oxide and up-conversion nanoparticles (NPs), quantum dots, and carbon materials, have shown certain advantages in overcoming the presence of physiological barriers within the eyeball and are widely used in the treatment of ophthalmic diseases. Few studies, however, have evaluated the efficacy of NIM delivery systems in treating fundus neovascular diseases (FNDs). The present study describes the main clinical treatment strategies and the adverse events associated with the treatment of FNDs with NIM delivery systems and summarizes the anatomical obstacles that must be overcome. In this review, we wish to highlight the principle of intraocular microenvironment normalization, aiming to provide a more rational approach for designing new NIM delivery systems to treat specific FNDs. Abstract In order to study the effect of temperature on the structure and mechanical properties of coal with different metamorphic degree. Three coal samples with varying degrees of metamorphism were chosen for analysis. The discrete element software PFC2D is used to simulate the heat treatment and compression of coal. The findings indicate that during the heating process, low-order coal exhibits noticeable thermal cracks at an early stage, while thermal crack development in middle-order coal is concentrated in the later stages. In contrast, high-order coal demonstrates a more stable macroscopic structure. The strength and stiffness of low rank coal show the lowest value and decrease significantly within 135 °C. However, the strength and stiffness of medium rank coal decrease significantly after 135 °C. The changes of mechanical properties and damage modes of coal caused by thermal damage are often ignored, which may lead to the deviation of design and research results from the actual situation. Therefore, this study is of great significance to the prevention and control of coal mine disasters.

Abstract Further increasing the critical temperature and/or decreasing the stabilized pressure are the general hopes for the hydride superconductors. Inspired by the low stabilized pressure associated with Ce 4f electrons in superconducting cerium superhydride and the high critical temperature in yttrium superhydride, we carry out seven independent runs to synthesize yttrium-cerium alloy hydrides. The synthetic process is examined by the Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction measurements. The superconductivity is obtained from the observed zero-resistance state with the detected onset critical temperatures in the range of 97-141 K. The upper critical field towards 0 K at pressure of 124 GPa is determined to be between 56 and 78 T by extrapolation of the results of the electrical transport measurements at applied magnetic fields. The analysis of the structural data and theoretical calculations suggest that the phase of Y0.5Ce0.5H9 in hexagonal structure with the space group of P63/m m c is stable in the studied pressure range. These results indicate that alloying superhydrides indeed can maintain relatively high critical temperature at relatively modest pressures accessible by laboratory conditions.

Abstract The presence of different types of coal at room temperature can lead to self-heating of coal, potentially resulting in spontaneous combustion. To investigate the effect of ambient temperature pre-oxidation (BL) time on the self-combustion characteristics of different coal types, synchronous thermal analysis (STA) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) experiments were conducted. The results of the synchronous thermal analysis experiments indicate that ambient temperature pre-oxidation for 3 months (BL3), BL6, and BL9 coals exhibit faster oxidation reactions compared to the original coal, while BL12 coal shows slower oxidation than the original coal. Among these, BL9 coal demonstrates the most significant changes in oxidation reaction characteristics, with the fastest oxidation reaction time being 35.36 min, which is 1.38 min faster than the original coal. To support this observation, a comparison was made between the relative content of active functional groups in the original coal and BL coal. The study revealed that the BL process affects the relative content of hydroxyl groups, aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and oxygen-containing functional groups, thereby influencing the coal-oxygen reaction process. This suggests that pre-oxidized coal, compared to the original coal, has a larger pore structure, which plays a dominant role in promoting coal self-combustion in the first 9 months of the BL process. As BL time continues to increase, the continuous reaction of active functional groups at room temperature leads to excessive consumption, resulting in a more significant role in inhibiting coal self-combustion. The research results provide valuable insights for predicting the spontaneous combustion risk of oxidized coal.

Reanalysis and satellite retrieval are two primary approaches for obtaining large-scale and long-term Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) datasets. This study evaluates and compares the accuracy, long-term stability, and error characteristics of the MERRA-2, MODIS combined Dark Target and Deep Blue (DT&DB), and VIIRS DB AOD products globally and regionally. The results indicate that the MERRA-2 AOD exhibits the highest accuracy with an expected error (EE, ±0.05 ± 20%) of 83.24% and mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.056, maintaining a stability of 0.010 per decade. However, since the MERRA-2 AOD ceased assimilating observations other than the MODIS AOD in 2014, its accuracy decreased by approximately 5.6% in the EE metric after 2014. The VIIRS Deep Blue (DB) AOD product, with an EE of 79.43% and stability of 0.016 per decade, is slightly less accurate and stable compared to the MERRA-2 AOD. The MODIS DT&DB AOD demonstrates an EE of 76.75% and stability of 0.011 per decade. Regionally, the MERRA-2 AOD performs acceptably in most areas, especially in low-aerosol-loading regions, with an EE > 86% and stability ~0.02 per decade. The VIIRS DB AOD excels in high-aerosol-loading regions, such as the Indian subcontinent, with an EE of 69.14% and a stability of 0.049 per decade. The performance of the MODIS DT&DB AOD falls between that of VIIRS DB and MERRA-2 across most regions. Overall, each product meets the accuracy and stability metrics globally, but users need to select the appropriate product for analysis based on the validation results of the accuracy and stability in different regions.

Energy footprint(EnF) quantifies the impact of human energy activities and the concept is evolving due to its broad coverage of environmental, social, economic and technical implications. This study performs the first comprehensive retrospective study on the general EnF concept with the aim to clarify its definition, mark recent practical developments and key modeling considerations. Given the existing variability in the definition of EnF, we propose a comprehensive and adaptive definition framework to address and better integrate this concept. The EnF has a wide range of practical uses for the country, industry, company, product and process. Typically, it can be considered as a sub-dimension of environmental footprint, serving to raise public awareness, guide energy policy, and inform technical improvements. Furthermore, we contend that EnF, as a practical indicator, can encompass not only environmental burden but also other facets such as economic well-beings, social costs and benefits. Thus, future studies should be carried out in a holistic perspective, considering the complex nexus between the energy-environment and the socioeconomic system. Priorities should be placed on detailed environmental and social life cycle assessment in renewable products and technology, with particular attention directed towards addressing uncertainty issues.

IntroductionEnterococcus faecium is a common pathogen responsible for urinary tract infections (UTIs) and often establishes extensive colonization within the intestinal tract. Our aim was to assess the genomic and transcriptomic differences between colonized E. faecium without UTI (only-colonization) and colonized E. faecium causing UTI (endogenous infections).MethodWe investigated the correlation between fecal isolates from the same patient and UTI-causing isolates using PFGE and WGS, and classified fecal isolates into two groups: those that solely colonized and those associated with endogenous urinary tract infections. We characterized the genomes of colonization-only and endogenously infected isolates by Scoary GWAS, and the transcriptomes of the isolates at 3 h urine exposure to assess pathogen-related changes.ResultBased on PFGE and WGS, eight isolates of endogenously infected E. faecium and nine isolates of only-colonized E. faecium were characterized and carbon and nitrogen regulated metabolisms such as genes encoding the phosphotransferase (PTS) system were enriched in endogenously infected E. faecium. Transcriptome analysis revealed significant differences in gene expression in the PTS system, lysine synthesis, galactose metabolism and citrate import between endogenously infected and only-colonized E. faecium isolates, highlighting the important role of certain carbon regulatory genes in the colonization and survival of endogenously infected E. faecium.ConclusionIn only-colonized and endogenously infected isolates, we observed differential expression patterns of genes related to carbon metabolism and amino acids, suggesting that metabolic diversity is a strategy for isolates leading to endogenous infection.

The application of metamaterials in controllable thermal emission devices is an interesting field. However, most of the demonstrated thermal emitters required continuous consumption of external energy (electrical or thermal) to provide an effective thermal emissivity. Here, a metamaterial containing phase change materials Ge _2 Sb _2 Te _5 (GST) and shell materials with controllable thermal emission power was proposed and measured. Based on the completely amorphous state of the GST layer, an emissivity of 0.212 at wavelength 7.11 μ m was achieved by this this metamaterial, while a thermal emission band (with an average amplitude of 0.857 and a bandwidth of 6.16 μ m) was excited for the crystalline state. Moreover, numerous thermal emission states were excited by this metamaterial based on the intermediate states between completely amorphous and crystalline states of the GST layer. Tunability of the thermal emission window was obtained by this metamaterial sample. The temperature sensitivity of this metamaterial thermal emitter was 341 nm °C ^−1 . By increasing the thickness of the GST or shell layers, the thermal emission performance of the metamaterial was enhanced. Since the phase transition of GST does not require the continuous consumption of external energy, the metamaterial has the potential to be used in the development of low-power heat emitters, as well as temperature sensors.

Abstract Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common malignant cancer in southern China that has highly invasive and metastatic features and causes high mortality, but the underlying mechanisms of this malignancy remain unclear. In this study, we utilized ChIP-Seq to identify metastasis-specific super enhancers (SEs) and found that the SE of LOC100506178 existed only in metastatic NPC cells and powerfully aggravated NPC metastasis. This metastatic SE transcribed into lncRNA LOC100506178, and it was verified as a seRNA through GRO-Seq. Furthermore, SE-derived seRNA LOC100506178 was found to be highly expressed in metastatic NPC cells and NPC lymph node metastatic tissues. Knockdown of seRNA LOC100506178 arrested the invasion and metastasis of NPC cells in vitro and in vivo, demonstrating that seRNA LOC100506178 accelerates the acquisition of NPC malignant phenotype. Mechanistic studies revealed that seRNA LOC100506178 specifically interacted with the transcription factor hnRNPK and modulated the expression of hnRNPK. Further, hnRNPK in combination with the promoter region of MICAL2 increased Mical2 transcription. Knockdown of seRNA LOC100506178 or hnRNPK markedly repressed MICAL2, Vimentin and Snail expression and upregulated E-cadherin expression. Overexpression of seRNA LOC100506178 or hnRNPK markedly increased MICAL2, Vimentin and Snail expression and decreased E-cadherin expression. Therefore, seRNA LOC100506178 may promote MICAL2 expression by upregulating hnRNPK, subsequently enhancing EMT process and accelerating the invasion and metastasis of NPC cells. seRNA LOC100506178 has the potential to serve as a novel prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in NPC patients.

Objective: To evaluate whether periconceptional or pregnancy exposure of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination would increase the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.Methods: The PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Library of clinical trials were searched from inception to March 2023. We computed relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and prediction intervals (PIs) regarding the association between HPV vaccination in periconceptional period or during pregnancy and the risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes by using R software Version 4.1.2 and STATA Version 12.0. A trial sequential analysis (TSA) was performed with TSA v0.9.5.10 Beta software.Results: Four randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and eight cohort studies were included in this meta-analysis. Analysis of RCTs showed that HPV vaccination in periconceptional period or during pregnancy did not increase the risks of spontaneous abortion (RR = 1.152, 95% CI: 0.909–1.460, 95% PI: 0.442–3.000), birth defects (RR = 1.171, 95% CI: 0.802–1.709, 95% PI: 0.320–4.342), stillbirth (RR = 1.053, 95% CI: 0.616–1.800, 95% PI: 0.318–3.540), preterm birth (RR = 0.940, 95% CI: 0.670–1.318) and ectopic pregnancy (RR = 0.807, 95% CI: 0.353–1.842, 95% PI: 0.128–5.335). In cohort studies, periconceptional or pregnancy exposures of HPV vaccine were not associated with the increased risk of spontaneous abortion (RR = 0.987, 95% CI: 0.854–1.140, 95% PI: 0.652–1.493), birth defects (RR = 0.960, 95% CI: 0.697–1.322, 95% PI: 0.371–2.480), stillbirth (RR = 1.033, 95% CI: 0.651–1.639, 95% PI: 0.052–21.064), small size for gestational age (SGA) (RR = 0.971, 95% CI: 0.873–1.081, 95% PI: 0.657–1.462) and preterm birth (RR = 0.977, 95% CI: 0.874–1.092, 95% PI: 0.651–1.444).Conclusion: HPV vaccine exposures in periconceptional period or during pregnancy did not increase the risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including spontaneous abortion, birth defects, stillbirth, SGA, preterm birth and ectopic pregnancy.Systematic Review Registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier CRD42023399777.

Cancer has been one of the leading factors of death around the world. Cancer patients usually have low 5-year survival rates and poor life quality requiring substantial improvement. In clinic, the presenting diagnostic strategies lack sensitivity with only a small proportion of patients can be accurately identified. For diagnosed patients, most of them are at the advanced stages thus being delayed to receive treatment. Therefore, it is eager to investigate and develop highly effective and accurate techniques for cancer early diagnosis and individualized therapy. Various nanoplatforms are emerging as imaging agents and drug carriers for cancer theranostics recently. Novel polymeric nanoagents, as a potent exemplar, have extraordinary merits, such as good stability, high biosafety and high drug loading efficacy, showing the great prospect for cancer early diagnosis and precise treatment. Herein, we review the recent advances in novel polymeric nanoagents and elucidate their synthesis procedures. We further introduce the applications of novel polymeric nanoagents in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and theranostics, as well as associated challenges and prospects in this field.

The Healthy China Strategy puts realistic demands for residents' health levels, but the reality is that various factors can affect health. In order to clarify which factors have a great impact on residents' health, based on China's provincial panel data from 2011 to 2018, this paper selects 17 characteristic variables from the three levels of economy, environment, and society and uses the XG boost algorithm and Random forest algorithm based on recursive feature elimination to determine the influencing variables. The results show that at the economic level, the number of industrial enterprises above designated size, industrial added value, population density, and per capita GDP have a greater impact on the health of residents. At the environmental level, coal consumption, energy consumption, total wastewater discharge, and solid waste discharge have a greater impact on the health level of residents. Therefore, the Chinese government should formulate targeted measures at both economic and environmental levels, which is of great significance to realizing the Healthy China strategy.

Abstract To effectively prevent and control the spontaneous combustion of residual coal at the bottom of a large fully mechanized gob space, we proposed a targeted inertization technology based on the injection of power plant flue gas. Based on the real onsite conditions of the gob, the three‐dimensional distributions of the overburden fractures, gas emission, and residual coal were added to the multiphysics coupled model of spontaneous coal combustion. The simulation method based on moving coordinates was used to complete the risk evaluation and the locating of the spontaneous combustion in the fully mechanized gob, and the key control factors of the inerted zone and the fire prevention effect of the flue gas injection were analyzed. The results showed that the mismatch between the inerted zone and the spontaneous combustion risk zone was the root cause of the poor fire prevention effect of the inert gas injection. Because the density of the flue gas was greater than that of the leaked air, the flue gas mainly migrated and diffused in the lower part of the gob. At a distance of 100 m from the working face, the flue gas with 3%‐9% oxygen content injected at a rate of 2000 m3/h completely covered the high‐temperature residual coal. This caused the maximum temperature (Tmax) to drop from 334.2 K upon nitrogen injection to below 310 K. Additionally, the effect of the oxygen content fluctuation on Tmax was controlled within 2.6 K. The methods and the results in this study can serve as a reference for efficiently preventing and controlling local spontaneous combustion hazards in large spaces for underground coal mining.

Paclitaxel (PTX) has previously been used to treat tumours of various tissue origins, such as lung, breast, ovarian, prostate cancers and leukemia. PTX‐induced apoptosis is associated with p38 mitogen‐activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK), extracellular signal‐regulated kinase (ERK), nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB) and c‐Jun N‐terminal kinase or stress‐activated protein kinase (JNK/ SAPK) pathways. Transforming growth factor‐beta‐activated kinase 1 (TAK1) and TAK1‐binding protein 1 (TAB1) play an important role in cell apoptosis through the p38, ERK, NF‐κB and JNK signal transduction pathways. To investigate the role of TAK1 in PTX‐induced cell apoptosis, we treated HEK293 and 8305C cells with 0–20 µM PTX for 6, 12 or 24 h. To investigate whether TAK1 can cooperate with PTX for cancer treatment, we transfected cells with TAK1, TAB1 or control plasmid and treated them with PTX (3–10 µM) for 9–24 h. Apoptosis rates were analysed by flow cytometry (Annexin V/PI). Endogenous TAK1 and TAB1, caspase‐7 cleavage, poly ADP‐ribose polymerase (PARP) cleavage, Bcl‐xL level, phospho‐p44/42, phospho‐JNK and phospho‐p38 were detected by western blot. We show that in HEK293 and 8305C cells, PTX enhanced the endogenous TAK1/TAB1 level and induced cell apoptosis in a dose‐ and time‐dependent manner. Upon TAK1 overexpression in HEK293 cells treated with PTX, apoptosis rate, JNK phosphorylation and PARP cleavage increased contrary to heat‐shocked or untreated cells. CRISPR editing of the tak1 gene upon PTX treatment resulted in lower phospho‐JNK and PARP cleavage levels than in cells transfected with the control or the TAK1‐ or TAB1 + TAK1‐containing plasmids. TAK1‐K63A could not induce JNK phosphorylation or PARP cleavage. We conclude that PTX induces HEK293 and 8305C cell apoptosis through the TAK1–JNK activation pathway, potentially highlighting TAK1’s role in chemosensitivity.

Abstract Patients who have refractory cancer pain suffer both physically and psychologically. Cancer pain management has improved over the past few decades. However, the treatment of refractory cancer pain is still challenging all over the world. Intraspinal analgesia has become an effective strategy to treat refractory pain in patients with cancer. In this report, we present a patient receiving a large dose of intrathecal opioids for refractory cancer pain, and who is also afflicted with pain-induced depression. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) was used as part of a multimodal analgesic regimen that successfully alleviated both the patient’s pain and depression. An intrathecal infusion of DEX may serve as an adjuvant drug in the treatment of cancer pain and pain-related depression.

Abstract The electronic structure near the Fermi surface determines the electrical properties of the materials, which can be effectively tuned by external pressure. Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 is a p‐type thermoelectric material which holds the record high figure of merit at room temperature. Here it is examined whether the figure of merit of this model system can be further enhanced through some external parameter. With the application of pressure, it is surprisingly found that the power factor of this material exhibits λ behavior with a high value of 4.8 mW m−1 K−2 at pressure of 1.8 GPa. Such an enhancement is found to be driven by pressure‐induced electronic topological transition, which is revealed by multiple techniques. Together with a low thermal conductivity of about 0.89 W m−1 K−1 at the same pressure, a figure of merit of 1.6 is achieved at room temperature. The results and findings highlight the electronic topological transition as a new route for improving the thermoelectric properties.

This paper analyses the interaction between the novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), unemployment rate, stock market, consumer confidence index (CCI), and economic policy uncertainty (EPU) index in China within a time-frequency framework. We compare the changes in economic indicators during the global financial crisis (GFC) and study the different impacts of the two events on China's economy. An unprecedented impact of COVID-19 shocks on the unemployment rate, CCI, EPU index, and stock market volatility over the low frequency bands is uncovered by applying the coherence wavelet method to China monthly data. The COVID-19 effect on the stock market volatility and the EPU index is substantially higher than on the unemployment rate and the CCI. On the contrary, the GFC's impact on the unemployment rate is much greater than that on the EPU index and CCI. Additionally, the impact of the GFC on the economy is more cyclical in the long-term, while the COVID-19 pandemic is a short-term shock with a relatively short oscillation cycle. This study concludes that the economic impact of COVID-19 will not spread into a financial crisis for China and believe that the COVID-19 pandemic is more of a health event than an economic crisis for Chinese economy.

COVID-19 not only poses a huge threat to public health, but also affects people’s mental health. Take scientific and effective psychological crisis intervention to prevent large-scale negative emotional contagion is an important task for epidemic prevention and control. This paper established a sentiment classification model to make sentiment annotation (positive and negative) about the 105,536 epidemic comments in 86 days on the official Weibo of People’s Daily, the test results showed that the accuracy of the model reached 88%, and the AUC value was greater than 0.9. Based on the marked data set, we explored the potential law between the changes in Internet public opinion and epidemic situation in China. First of all, we found that most of the Weibo users showed positive emotions, and the negative emotions were mainly caused by the fear and concern about the epidemic itself and the doubts about the work of the government. Secondly, there is a strong correlation between the changes of epidemic situation and people’s emotion. Also, we divided the epidemic into three period. The proportion of people’s negative emotions showed a similar trend with the number of newly confirmed cases in the growth and decay period, and the extinction period. In addition, we also found that women have more positive emotional performance than men, and the high-impact groups is also more positive than the low-impact groups. We hope that these conclusions can help China and other countries experiencing severe epidemics to guide publics respond.

Abstract Background β2 receptor agonists induce airway smooth muscle relaxation by increasing intracellular cAMP production. PKA is the traditional downstream signaling pathway of cAMP. Exchange protein directly activated by cAMP (Epac) was identified as another important signaling molecule of cAMP recently. The role of Epac in asthmatic airway inflammation and airway remodeling is unclear. Methods We established OVA-sensitized and -challenged acute and chronic asthma mice models to explore the expression of Epac at first. Then, airway inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness in acute asthma mice model and airway remodeling in chronic asthma mice model were observed respectively after treatment with Epac-selective cAMP analogue 8-pCPT-2′-O-Me-cAMP (8pCPT) and Epac inhibitor ESI-09. Next, the effects of 8pCPT and ESI-09 on the proliferation and apoptosis of in vitro cultured mouse airway smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) were detected with CCK-8 assays and Annexin-V staining. Lastly, the effects of 8pCPT and ESI-09 on store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) of ASMCs were examined by confocal Ca2+ fluorescence measurement. Results We found that in lung tissues of acute and chronic asthma mice models, both mRNA and protein expression of Epac1 and Epac2, two isoforms of Epac, were lower than that of control mice. In acute asthma mice model, the airway inflammatory cell infiltration, Th2 cytokines secretion and airway hyperresponsiveness were significantly attenuated by 8pCPT and aggravated by ESI-09. In chronic asthma mice model, 8pCPT decreased airway inflammatory cell infiltration and airway remodeling indexes such as collagen deposition and airway smooth muscle cell proliferation, while ESI-09 increased airway inflammation and airway remodeling. In vitro cultured mice ASMCs, 8pCPT dose-dependently inhibited, whereas ESI-09 promoted ASMCs proliferation. Interestingly, 8pCPT promoted the apoptosis of ASMCs, whereas ESI-09 had no effect on ASMCs apoptosis. Lastly, confocal Ca2+ fluorescence examination found that 8pCPT could inhibit SOCE in ASMCs at 100 μM, and ESI-09 promoted SOCE of ASMCs at 10 μM and 100 μM. In addition, the promoting effect of ESI-09 on ASMCs proliferation was inhibited by store-operated Ca2+ channel blocker, SKF-96365. Conclusions Our results suggest that Epac has a protecting effect on asthmatic airway inflammation and airway remodeling, and Epac reduces ASMCs proliferation by inhibiting SOCE in part.

It is well known that cancer incidence and death rates have been growing, but the development of cancer theranostics and therapeutics has been a challenging work. Recently, nucleic acid probe–based fluorescent sensing and imaging have achieved remarkable improvements in a variety of cancer management techniques, credited to their high sensitivity, good tolerance to interference, fast detection, and high versatility. Herein, nucleic acid probe–based fluorescent sensing and imaging are labeled with advanced fluorophores, which are essential for fast and sensitive detection of aberrant nucleic acids and other cancer-relevant molecules, consequently performing cancer early diagnosis and targeted treatment. In this review, we introduce the characteristics of nucleic acid probes, summarize the development of nucleic acid probe–based fluorescent sensing and imaging, and prominently elaborate their applications in cancer diagnosis and treatment. In discussion, some challenges and perspectives are elaborated in the field of nucleic acid probe–based fluorescent sensing and imaging.

Pancreatic cancer remains one of the chief contributors to cancer related deaths on a global scale, with its diagnosis often associated with poor prognosis and high mortality. Accumulating literature continues to highlight the role of aberrant DNA methylation in relation to pancreatic cancer progression. Integrated bioinformatics approaches in the characterization of methylated-differentially expressed genes (MeDEGs) in pancreatic cancer were employed to enhance our understanding of the potential underlying molecular mechanisms of this cancer. We initially identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between 178 pancreatic cancer samples and 4 normal samples and differentially methylated genes (DMGs) based on 185 pancreatic cancer samples as well as 10 normal samples by analyzing RNA sequencing data in the TCGA database. Eventually, 31 MeDEGs including 5 hypomethylated/upregulated genes and 26 hypermethylated/downregulated genes were identified. Univariate Cox model and Kaplan–Meier method revealed that, among 31 MeDEGs, 5 hypermethylated/downregulated genes (ZNF804A, ZFP82, TRIM58, SOX17, and C12orf42) were correlated with poor survival of patients with pancreatic cancer. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis by GSEA 3.0 and the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network revealed that these 5 MeDEGs were enriched in numerous cancer-related pathways in addition to interacting with each other, highlighting a significant role in the development of pancreatic cancer. Taken together, the key findings of the current study demonstrate that ZNF804A, ZFP82, TRIM58, SOX17, and C12orf42 are hypermethylated/downregulated genes in pancreatic cancer and may be associated, through their modulation of specific pathways, with unfavorable pancreatic cancer prognosis.

Abstract Recently, most countries have entered the outbreak period of the novel coronavirus epidemic. This sudden outbreak has caused a huge impact on the global economy, which has intensified the division of globalization and the recession of the global economy. Although the epidemic situation in China has gradually stabilized, the severe situation in the world still inevitably impacts China's economy. Based on the uncertainty of future epidemic, this paper sets up three scenarios to analyze the impact of the epidemic on China's economy. The first is that in June, the epidemic both at home and abroad is under control without rebound; the second is that the domestic epidemic is basically controlled but the foreign situation is not effectively controlled; the third is that the epidemic situation in China has a serious rebound due to the influence of the imported cases from abroad, which destroy the economy again. At the same time, some corresponding guidelines are put forward for the recovery of economy, and to minimize the economic losses as well as accelerate the pace of national economic recovery. In addition, it is believed that these suggestions may have certain reference value to other countries.

The development and application of smart fabrics is a research hotspots in clothing fabrics. Accurately measuring the thermal conductivity of clothing fabric samples is an important basis for developing corresponding products. Here, thermal properties (thermal resistance and diffusivity) of clothing fabrics were measured through using a metamaterial sensor. The measured thermal resistance and diffusivity of the clothing fabrics could be affected by ambient temperature. The measured thermal resistance was also enhanced by increasing the fabric sample thickness. Similar resonance behaviors could be found in the fitted results based on the heat conduction theory. Finally, under the condition of the same thickness and temperature, the thermal properties of four clothing fabric samples were simulated and measured.

Environmental pollution damages public health and affects economic development. Environmental regulation is the main way for the government to solve environmental pollution. So what type of environmental regulation works better for public health and economic development? Can environmental regulation have an influence on economic development through public health? To solve these problems, this research uses China’s provincial panel data from 2013 to 2017 to divide environmental regulation into command-control policy tools and economic incentive policy tools and uses the mediating effect model to examine the relationship among environmental regulation, public health and economic development. The results show that: (1) There is a positive correlation between economic incentive policy tools and economic development; while no significant relationship between command-control policy tools and economic development is founded; (2) The relationship between command-control policy tools and public health is not significant, while the relationship between economic incentive policy tools and public health is positive; (3) Public health does not play a mediating role between command-control policy tools and economic development but plays a partial mediating role between economic incentive policy tools and economic development. Therefore, the government should strengthen the use of economic incentive policy tools to promote public health and sustainable economic development.

Abstract Aviation transportation systems have developed rapidly in recent years and have become a focus for research on the modeling of epidemics. However, despite the number of studies on aggregated topological structures and their effects on the spread of disease, the temporal sequence of flights that connect different airports have not been examined. In this study, to analyze the temporal pattern of the Chinese Aviation Network (CAN), we obtain a time series of topological statistics through sliding the temporal CAN with an hourly time window. In addition, we build two types of Susceptible-Infectious (SI) spreading models to study the effects of linking sequence and temporal duration on the spread of diseases. The results reveal that the absence of links formed by flights without alternatives at dawn and night causes a significant decrease in the centralization of the network. The temporal sparsity of linking sequence slows down the spread of disease on CAN, and the duration of flights intensifies the sensitiveness of CAN to targeted infection. The results are of great significance for further understanding of the aviation network and the dynamic process, such as the propagation of delay.

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the most common congenital hereditary disease of low intelligence after Down syndrome. Its main pathogenic gene is fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene associated with intellectual disability, autism, and fragile X-related primary ovarian insufficiency (FXPOI) and fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS). FMR1 gene transcription leads to the absence of fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP). How to relieve or cure disorders associated with FXS has also become a clinically disturbing problem. Previous studies have recently shown that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) contribute to the pathogenesis. And it has been identified that several lncRNAs including FMR4, FMR5, and FMR6 contribute to developing FXPOI/FXTAS, originating from the FMR1 gene locus. FMR4 is a product of RNA polymerase II and can regulate the expression of relevant genes during differentiation of human neural precursor cells. FMR5 is a sense-oriented transcript while FMR6 is an antisense lncRNA produced by the 3′ UTR of FMR1. FMR6 is likely to contribute to developing FXPOI, and it overlaps exons 15–17 of FMR1 as well as two microRNA binding sites. Additionally, BC1 can bind FMRP to form an inhibitory complex and lncRNA TUG1 also can control axonal development by directly interacting with FMRP through modulating SnoN–Ccd1 pathway. Therefore, these lncRNAs provide pharmaceutical targets and novel biomarkers. This review will: (1) describe the clinical manifestations and traditional pathogenesis of FXS and FXTAS/FXPOI; (2) summarize what is known about the role of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of FXS and FXTAS/FXPOI; and (3) provide an outlook of potential effects and future directions of lncRNAs in FXS and FXTAS/FXPOI researches.

Cochliobolus miyabeanus is known as a significant causal agent in relation to brown spot disease of rice and causes significant yield losses. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome was determined using next-generation sequencing technology. This complete mitogenome is a circular molecule of 124,887 bp in length. It contains 13 conserved protein-coding genes, 21 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and 9 open reading frames. The overall base composition of C. miyabeanus is 35.4% A, 34.4% T, 14.4% C, 15.8% G, with a CG content of 30.2%. Phylogenetic analysis based on concatenated protein genes from 15 taxa within Pezizomycotina showed that C. miyabeanus is closely related to Bipolaris cookei in the family Pleosporaceae (Dothideomycetes, Pleosporales). This work would facilitate the understanding of systematics and evolutionary biology of phytopathogenic fungi.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism associated with a wide range of foods. It causes listeriosis, a severe illness that mainly affects people with weakened immune systems. Proteomic profiles of three different L. monocytogenes isolates were studied using 1D SDS PAGE, 2DE and mass spectrometry. The protein banding patterns generated by 1D SDS PAGE of three strains of L. monocytogenes were found to be similar. Visual observations from 2DE gel maps revealed that certain spots appeared to have intensity differences. Key differences in proteins synthesis of three strains of L. monocytogenes were found using the PDQest TM 2DE Analysis software. Comparison showed that the clinical isolate (strain SB92/844) had 53.4% and 53.9% protein profile similarity with dairy isolate (strain V7) and seafood isolate (SB92/870), respectively. The identity of selected protein spots was achieved using MALDI-TOF and ion trap mass spectrometry. It was found that certain identified proteins (i.e., a major cold shock protein and superoxide dismutase) were expressed differently between two local strains of L. monocytogenes (SB92/844, SB92/870) and one strain from overseas (V7).

The textual content and temporal pattern of online activities for users gathered in the “Fear of HIV Bar” of Baidu Tieba were analyzed. LDA topic model was used to analyze the main differences between topics discussed among HIV-infected people and non-HIV-infected people. A machine learning method based on key words was used to distinguish the sexual orientation of users who start a discussion in “Fear of HIV Bar”, and calculate the epidemic rate of HIV among groups with different sexual orientations. The techniques used in this paper can be supplemented as an important tool for high-risk populations research. In addition, this paper can be applied to assess the epidemic of HIV in populations with different sexual orientations by using machine learning technique to intelligently classify the sexual orientation of a user, which is of great significance for the public health agencies.

Malignant Pleural Effusions (MPE) may be useful as a model to study hierarchical progression of cancer and/or intratumoral heterogeneity. To strengthen the rationale for developing the MPE-model for these purposes, we set out to find evidence for the presence of cancer stem cells (CSC) in MPE and demonstrate an ability to sustain intratumoral heterogeneity in MPE-primary cultures. Our studies show that candidate lung CSC-expression signatures (PTEN, OCT4, hTERT, Bmi1, EZH2 and SUZ12) are evident in cell pellets isolated from MPE, and MPE-cytopathology also labels candidate-CSC (CD44, cMET, MDR-1, ALDH) subpopulations. Moreover, in primary cultures that use MPE as the source of both tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment (TME), candidate CSC are maintained over time. This allows us to live-sort candidate CSC-fractions from the MPE-tumor mix on the basis of surface markers (CD44, c-MET, uPAR, MDR-1) or differences in xenobiotic metabolism (ALDH). Thus, MPE-primary cultures provide an avenue to extract candidate CSC populations from individual (isogenic) MPE-tumors. This will allow us to test whether these cells can be discriminated in functional bioassays. Tumor heterogeneity in MPE-primary cultures is evidenced by variable immunolabeling, differences in colony-morphology, and differences in proliferation rates of cell subpopulations. Collectively, these data justify the ongoing development of the MPE-model for the investigation of intratumoral heterogeneity, tumor-TME interactions, and phenotypic validation of candidate lung CSC, in addition to providing direction for the pre-clinical development of rational therapeutics.
