The article presents information on the Nuclear Congress 2005--"Fuel for Thought"--on the 5th to 7th July 2005, organised by the British Nuclear Energy Society and the Institution of Nuclear Engineers. Held at the University of Wales, Caerleon, the Congress aimed to provide an insight into the future state of the nuclear industry in Great Britain. It was informed during the congress that currently, nuclear power stations provide over 20% of Great Britain's electricity. Although, long-speculated that the government may publish a new white paper supporting new-build nuclear power stations, no decision has yet been reached and the future of the industry remains uncertain. However, in the military sector, a healthy build program for the Royal Navy's Astute class submarines will take reactor build into the next decade. The presentations on the political aspects of the Industry's future were opened by Peter Wailer who discussed the shifting market conditions and the changing priorities of the nuclear industry; stressing the need for transparency and public dialogue.
