Furuncular myiasis is a cutaneous parasitosis that occurs in tropical regions. It is manifested by lesions with the appearance of pustules, because of the presence of the fly larva in the skin. This misleading appearance can delay diagnosis. The extraction of these Cayor worms can be facilitated by the use of a comedo-extractor.

Background: Cellulitis/erysipelas are the most frequent reason for hospitalization in dermatology departments. Objective: To describe evolutionary profile of cellulitis/erysipelas and to determine associated factors with the long hospital stay. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out from January 2016 to December 2018 in Talangai Reference Hospital, that included patients hospitalized for cellulitis or erysipelas of the lower limbs. Necrotizing fasciitis cases were excluded. A hospital stay of more than 11 days was considered long. Sociodemographic, clinical and biological data were collected and processed with Epi Info 7.2.1.0. The Chi-square and Fisher tests were used for univariate analysis. Logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis. Results: One hundred and five patients were included, with an average age of 50.7 (±15) years. They were 26 (24.8%) men and 79 (74.2%) women. Antibiotic regimen used was amoxicillin in 19 (18.1%) cases, amoxicillin / clavulanic acid in 40 (38.1%) cases and ceftriaxone in 46 (43.8%) cases. The outcome was favorable in 69 (65.7%) patients. Fever persisted after 5 days-treatment in 19 (28.3%) patients out of 67 initially. Complications were cutaneous necrosis in 19 (18.0%) cases, abscess in 14 (13.3%) cases, severe sepsis and necrotizing fasciitis in 7 and 4 cases, respectively. Two patients died. The average length of hospital stay was 13 days (±7.5) and 44 (41.9%) cases had a long hospital stay. The bullous forms of cellulitis/erysipelas [aOR=4.8, 95%CI (1.9-12.4); p=0.001] and the occurrence of complications [aOR=3.2, 95%CI (1.1-8.7); p=0.026] were associated with a long hospital stay. Conclusion: Cellulitis and erysipelas are potentially serious. Despite treatment, complications can occur, including necrosis and abscess. Effective management, including early medical treatment, daily thorough monitoring of patients, appropriate local care and collaboration with surgeons, is necessary to improve the prognosis of the disease.

To determine the frequency of diseases responsible for skin lesions of the male external genitalia. This descriptive retrospective study examined the medical records of patients older than 14 years treated for genital symptoms as outpatients at the Dermatology Department of Talangai Hospital in Brazzaville in 2009-2011. Patients' sociodemographic, medical history, clinical, and laboratory data were collected on a standardized individual form. The data were processed with Epi Info 3.5.4 software. The records revealed 76 dermatoses of the male external genitalia treated in the three-year study period. Causes were infectious for 69.7 %, with a predominance of scabies (22.4 %), warts (18.4 %), and genital herpes (11.8 %). Sexually transmitted infections accounted for 31.6 % of the cases. Inflammatory dermatoses (19.8 %) included eczema (10.6 %), fixed drug eruptions (7.9 %), and psoriasis (1.3 %). Vitiligo accounted for 4 % of the genital skin diseases. One case of Kaposi's sarcoma was reported. Parasitic and viral dermatoses, and particularly sexually transmitted diseases are common causes of skin conditions of the male genitalia.

The eruptive syringoma represent a rare variant of syringomas. It is a benign tumour derived from eccrine ductal elements. The disease is manifested by papules that arise on the front side of body, usually in young subjects. The eruptive syringoma is asymptomatic, but it may sometimes be pruritic. We report a 25-year-old woman presented with eruptive syringoma resembling keloids scars.

Introduction La tuberculose multifocale est une forme grave survenant surtout chez les sujets immunodeprimes. L’atteinte cutanee est rare. Nous en rapportons un cas a localisation cutanee polymorphe chez une patiente immunocompetente. Observation Une patiente de 37 ans, sans antecedents particuliers, etait hospitalisee pour des lesions cutanees suppuratives et une fievre evoluant depuis 11 mois. L’examen clinique revelait : des nodules fluctuants, surmontes d’ulcerations irregulieres en regard des aires ganglionnaires ; une tumefaction volumineuse dorsale ; des lesions papulo-nodulaires ombiliquees du tronc ; un muguet buccal ; une polyadenopathie peripherique ; une ascite ; un syndrome d’epanchement pleural gauche. La biopsie cutanee revelait des granulomes epithelio-giganto-cellulaires. La radiographie du thorax revelait une pleuropneumopathie. L’echographie abdominale montrait des adenopathies intraperitoneales. Les liquides d’ascite et pleural presentaient une hypercellularite de type lymphocytaire. La serologie VIH etait negative et les LDH normales. Le diagnostic de tuberculose multifocale avec deux formes cutanees, scrofuloderme et gomme, etait retenu. La patiente etait mise sous traitement antituberculeux. Elle decedait a j60. Discussion Notre observation confirme la possibilite de tuberculose multifocale en l’absence d’immunodepression, la variabilite de l’expression cutanee et la gravite de l’affection.

Hospitalizations for erysipelas became frequent in the Brazzaville (Congo) service of dermatology. A link between the use of topical corticosteroids for bleaching purpose and erysipelas cases of the leg in women users has been evoked. We carried out a retrospective survey over eleven months analysing 53 files of patients hospitalized for erysipelas, among which 48 cases (91%) concerned topical corticosteroids users and 5 cases of (9%) non users. The average age of these patients was 26 years old, with extremes 18 and 55, for an hospitalization varying between 3 weeks and one month.

A prospective survey has been carried out in the Brazzaville (Congo) dermatology service in order to specify dermatosis linked to the use of bleaching agents in 104 Congolese women consulting for this problem. The used bleaching agents were topical corticoids based products for 40 cases, hydroquinone for 32 cases, and hydroquinone associated with topical dermocorticoids for 32 cases. Acne was the most frequent motive for consulting (24%), followed by the paradoxical peri-orbital hyperpigmentation (21.1%), profuse mycosis (16.3%) and vibices(8.6%). The results of this survey were not superimposable to those of Dakar where infectious dermatosis were the first reason for consulting.

Keloïds are tumors which appear after a lesion or spontaneously. They are frequent on black skin. We report a gigantic keloïd case appeared after chicken-pox on a 29 year-old black girl who had viral infection when she was 6 years old. The tumors increased after chirurgical treatment and became very unaesthetic. This observation specific by its clinical presentation relates the treatment difficulties of these tumors in our area.

The objective of this study has been to estimate the frequency of AIDS occurring in older age groups on the basis of hospital statistics and note the prognostic particularities in these groups. One hundred and seventy five (175) cases of AIDS reported to the University Hospital Center of Brazzaville occurring in persons aged 55 years and over were followed up retrospectively from 1 January 1990 to 31 December 1996. The results of this study indicate that AIDS is not rare in older age groups: 4.7% of all infected subjects registered during the period of study. The sex-ratio was 1.3/1 (99 males and 76 females). The overall mean age was 60.45. Contamination seems to be the most often of heterosexual origin. Many symptoms were found. The most frequent ones were weight loss (100% cases), fever (89.7%), diarrhoea (60.5%), neuro-psychiatric disorders (49.7%), and respiratory manifestations (50.2%). Lethal evolution was rapid, with 74% deaths at the end of the 1st year and 100% at the end of 2nd year, as a consequence of delayed diagnosis as well as the natural development of the disease. The results of this study point to the necessity of prevention strategies which include not only young, but older age groups as well.

Objectif Decrire les lesions ophtalmologiques observees au cours des syndromes de Stevens Johnson et de Lyell et montrer leur severite par rapport aux lesions cutanees. Materiels et Methodes Etude descriptive conduite pendant 6 mois, de janvier a juin 2006 portant sur 4 observations de patients hospitalises dans le service de dermatologie du CHU de Brazzaville au Congo pour syndrome de Stevens Johnson et de Lyell et suivis en ophtalmologie pour atteinte oculaire. Resultats Il s’agissait de 4 patients, 3 de sexe masculin et 1 de sexe feminin, âges de 8, 10, 15 et 18 ans, presentant un syndrome de Stevens Johnson (3 cas) et un syndrome de Lyell (1 cas). Les lesions oculaires etaient bilaterales a type de symblepharon (3 cas), ulcere de cornee (3 cas), entropion (3 cas), hypopion (2 cas), kerotoconjonctivite seche (1 cas). Une stomatite associee etait retrouvee dans 2 cas. Les lesions cutanees etaient maculo-papuleuses (2 cas), scarlatiniformes (1 cas) et papuleuses (1 cas). Les medicaments incrimines etaient l’erythromycine dans 2 cas, l’association trimethoprime – sulfamethoxazole + pyrimethamine – sulfadoxine et l’indometacine dans 1 cas chacun. La duree d’hospitalisation etait de 3 a 8 semaines, fonction de la severite de l’atteinte oculo-muco-cutanee. Un cas de cecite a ete note. Discussion L’atteinte oculaire se localise essentiellement au niveau du segment anterieur et des annexes. Le polymorphisme des signes oculaires observes est en apport avec la severite des lesions cutanees. Conclusion Les sulfamides sont connus comme etant des medicaments responsables du syndrome de Stevens Johnson et de Lyell. Les lesions ophtalmologiques sont graves mettant en peril le pronostic fonctionnel visuel.
