Ulrike Dapunt, Simone Gantz, Anastasiya Zhuk, Katharina Gather, Haili Wang, Marcus Schiltenwolf Center for Orthopaedics, Trauma Surgery and Spinal Cord Injury, Heidelberg University Hospital, Schlierbacher Landstrasse, Heidelberg, Germany Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate possible differences of quantitative sensory testing (QST) results in healthy individuals (group control, n=20), physically active individuals (group sport, n=30) and in patients suffering from chronic musculoskeletal pain (group pain, n=30). Methods: Thermal detection thresholds, thermal pain thresholds and blunt pressure pain thresholds were measured at various sites (T0). Additionally, group pain was treated in multidisciplinary pain therapy for 4 weeks. All groups were retested after 4 weeks to evaluate the reliability of QST measurements and to investigate possible early changes following treatment (T1).Results: Importantly, QST-measurements showed stable test results for group sport and group control at both time points. Athletes demonstrated the highest pain thresholds in general (cold pain threshold mean in degree Celsius for the hand: 5.76, lower back right: 7.25, lower back left: 7.53; heat pain threshold mean in degree Celsius for the hand: 46.08, lower back right: 45.77, lower back left: 45.70; and blunt pressure pain mean in kilograms for the hand: 3.54, lower back right: 5.26, lower back left: 5.46). Patients who underwent therapy demonstrated significant differences at T1 (cold pain threshold hand mean in degree Celsius for the hand: 11.12 [T0], 15.12 [T1]; and blunt pressure pain mean in kilograms for the lower back right: 2.87 [T0], 3.56 [T1]). They were capable of enduring higher blunt pressure, but on the other hand cold pain tolerance had decreased (P=0.045 and P=0.019, respectively). Conclusions: In conclusion, we were able to demonstrate significant differences of QST results among the three groups and we detected early changes following multidisciplinary pain therapy, which will be discussed. Keywords: quantitative sensory testing, chronic musculoskeletal pain, multidisciplinary pain therapy

- Abstract
An analysis of the production of KS0KS0 and K±Ks0π∓ by two quasi-real photons is presented. The cross section for γγ→K0 {Mathematical expression}, which is given for the γγ invariant mass range from K {Mathematical expression} threshold to 2.5 GeV, is dominated by the f′(1525) resonance and an enhancement near the K {Mathematical expression} threshold. Upper limits on the product of the two-photon width times the branching ratio into K {Mathematical expression} pairs are given for Θ(1700), h(2030), and ξ(2220). For exclusive two-photon production of K±Ks0π∓ no significant signal was observed. Upper limits are given on the cross section of γγ→K+ {Mathematical expression}π- or K-K0π+ between 1.4 and 3.2 GeV and on the product of the γγ width times the branching ratio into the K {Mathematical expression}π final states for the ηc(2980) and the ι(1440), yielding Γ(γγ)→i(1440))·BR(i(1440)→K {Mathematical expression}π

- Abstract
The large amount of data accumulated by the TASSO detector at 35 GeV c.m. energy has been compared with the predictions of the latest generation of perturbative QCD+fragmentation models. By adjustment of the arbitrary parameters of these models, a very good description of the global properties of hadronic events was obtained. No one model gave the best description of all features of the data, each model being better than the others for some observables and worse in other quantities. We interpret these results in terms of the underlying QCD and hadronisation schemes. The trends of the data across the energy range 12.0≦W≦41.5 GeV are generally well reproduced by the models with the parameters optimised at 35 GeV. © 1988 Springer-Verlag.

- Abstract
The full TASSO data have been used to study the orientation of three-jet events in e+e- annihilation. The polar angle distributions of the normal to the three-jet plane as well as the polar angle distribution of the most energetic jet have been measured as a function of the thrust cut-off used to select the three-jet sample. The data corrected for radiation and detector effects are compared to QCD predictions and fair agreement is found. As a consistency check we also present measurements of the azimuthal correlations between the lepton and hadron planes. A significant azimuthal dependence is found, consistent again with the QCD predictions. © 1990 Springer-Verlag.

- Abstract
Samples of ∼1,900 identified protons and ∼500 Λ have been used to search for decuplet baryon production in e+e- annihilation at a c.m. energy of 34.4 GeV. The p π+ and Λ π± invariant mass spectra contain no Δ or Σ* signals. Upper limits, at 95% confidence level, are that less than 12% of all p and less than 26% of all Λ come from the decay of doubly charged Δ and singly charged Σ* states respectively. - Abstract
We report on total cross section and forward backward charge asymmetry measurements of the reaction e+e- → τ+τ- at centre of mass energies of 35.0 GeV and 42.4 GeV using the TASSO detector. Including previous data an analysis in terms of electroweak parameters of the standard model is presented, and lower limits on mass scale parameters of residual contact interactions are given. A combined analysis of electroweak couplings using all our results on leptonic reactions e+e-→l+l- has been performed. © 1989 Springer-Verlag.

- Abstract
Production of the ηc meson in e+e- quasireal two photon collisions has been looked for in three channels. The data were obtained from an integrated luminosity of 189 pb-1. An ηc signal is observed in two decay modes (Ks0K±π∓,π+π-π+π-) with a combined statistical significance of 3.5 standard deviations. Using the known ηc branching ratios to these channels and to K+K-π+π- the combined partial ηc width to γγ is Γγγ(ηc). The first error is statistical, and the second one includes the systematic and branching ratio errors. Calculated as an upper limit we obtain Γγγ(ηc) (95% C.L., including the systematic error). © 1989 Springer-Verlag.

- Abstract
A b enrichment technique using the long B lifetime has been developed, by which ∼600 hadronic events with >65%b purity are obtained. The properties of the associated jets are studied, with comparisons made between them and those in hadronic data in which b quarks make up only 10% of the total, and jets in Monte Carlo events. The distributions in rapidity and multiplicity yield two new determinations of the fragmentation variable z for b hadrons and confirm that the b fragmentation function is hard. We also present the first measurement of the relative strength of the strong interaction coupling of the b quark compared with the average of all flavours. © 1989 Springer-Verlag.

- Abstract
High-energy e+e--annihilation events obtained in the TASSO detector at PETRA have been used to determine the spin of the gluon in the reaction e+e- → qqg. We analysed angular correlations between the three jet axes. While vector gluons are consistent with the data (55% confidence limit), scalar gluons are disfavoured by 3.8 standard deviations, corresponding to a confidence level of about 10-4. Our conclusion is free of possible biases due to uncertainties in the fragmentation process or in determining the qqg kinematics from the observed hadrons. © 1980.

- Abstract
We report on a study of inclusive production of D*± mesons in e+e- annihilation at c.m. energies between 28 and 46.8 GeV using the TASSO detector at the PETRA storage ring. A hard D*± energy spectrum is measured with a maximum near ED*±≃0.6 Ebeam. The measured cross section ratio {Mathematical expression} indicates that D* production accounts for a large fraction of the observed charm production. Two complementary methods have been used to determine the forward-backward asymmetry of charm pair production due to electroweak interference. Combining both measurements the product of the axial vector couplings of the electron and the charm quark to the weak neutral current was determined to be gAegAc=-(0.276±0.073), in agreement with the standard model prediction of -0.25. Using a sample of reconstructed D*± mesons, the relative strength of the strong interaction coupling of the c quark compared to that of an average of all flavours is measured as αs(c)/αs(all)=0.91±0.38±0.15, consistent with the coupling constant being flavour independent. An update of our D0 lifetime measurement is presented, based on a considerable increase in statistics, the final result being {Mathematical expression}. © 1989 Springer-Verlag.

- Abstract
Production of proton-antiproton pairs by two-photon scattering has been observed at the electron-position storage ring PETRA. A total of eight proton-antiproton pairs have been identified using the time-of-flight technique. We have measured a total cross section of 4.5 ± 0.8 nb in the photon-photon c.m. energy range 2.0-2.6 GeV. © 1982.

- Abstract
We have observed exclusive production of K+K- and KSOKSO pairs and the excitation of the f′(1515) tensor meson in photon-photon collisions. Assuming the f′ to be production in a helicity 2 state, we determine Λ(f′ → γγ) B(f′ → KK) = 0.11 ± 0.02 ± 0.04 keV. The non-strange quark of the f′ is found to be less than 3% (95% CL). For the θ(1640) we derive an upper limit for the product Λ(θ rarr; γγ KK) < 0.03 keV (95% CL). © 1983.

- Abstract
The reaction e+e-→μ+μ- has been studied at centre of mass energies between 35.0 and 46.8 GeV using the TASSO detector at PETRA. We present measurements of the forward-backward charge asymmetry (Aμμ) and cross section σμμ for this reaction at three energies. At 35.0 GeV we obtain a cross section relative to the QED prediction of Rμμ=σμμ/σo=0.932±0.018±0.044 and Aμμ=(-10.6-2.3+2.2±0.5)%. At 38.3 GeV we find Rμμ=0.951±0.072-0.057+0.063 and Aμμ=(+1.7-8.6+8.5±0.5)%. At 43.6 GeV we measure Rμμ=0.921±0.037±0.055 and Aμμ=(-17.6-4.3+4.4±0.5)%. Our results are in good agreement with the predictions of the standard model. Including previous TASSO data we present improved determinations of muonic electroweak parameters. We also report on lower limits of possible contributions from contact interactions. © 1988 Springer-Verlag.
