- Abstract
The present investigation presented an analysis of elements that regulate and interact with the Initial Teacher Training (FID) in Pedagogy in Physical Education (PEF) with the objective of knowing through a regional case study how the FID paradigms are configured in PEF considering the perception of trainer of trainers, curriculum and ministerial guidelines. A qualitative approach was used, data analysis was performed through grounded theory with the support of the Atlas.ti statistical program. The collection of information was carried out through semi-structured interviews and analysis of formal ministerial documentation in force until 2021. The results expose the paradigms that predict from the perception of the trainers of trainers and the analyzed curricula (biological-sports), while the ministerial guidelines They provide a regulation to consider related to quality assurance systems from a normative perspective.

- Abstract
The systematization of this pedagogical experience explains the implementation of a pilot Research-Based Learning (ABI) program in the process of Initial Teacher Training (FID) of Physical Education Teachers (PEF) belonging to a Chilean university. The experience was developed with classes in virtual mode during the second semester of 2021. The program addressed seven topics in eight class sessions. The objective of the pilot program was to develop research skills in teachers in the process of FID in PEF oriented to their training area remotely. The results showed that 100% of the attendees to the pilot program improved the level of knowledge regarding the ABI topics, on the other hand, 100% of the attendees declared to be satisfied with this type of experience. It can be concluded that the implementation of the ABI in the FID in PEF is based on the need to promote the research field from its bases (students), being a teaching-learning tool that will facilitate the search for solutions to problems using an innovative methodology. that allows to build new knowledge from their own realities., La sistematización de la presente experiencia pedagógica explica la implementación de un programa piloto de Aprendizaje Basado en Investigación (ABI) en el proceso de Formación Inicial Docente (FID) del Profesorado de Educación Física (PEF) perteneciente a una universidad chilena.

- Abstract
The objective of the study was to examine original scientific articles available in data bases for the past twenty-one years (2000-2021) concerning monitoring of anthropometry and physical fitness in young tennis players. A systematic review was carried out in three online data bases (PubMed, LILACS and Web of Science) from January, 2000 to May, 2021. Initially, 73 original articles were identified. After applying criteria of eligibility and exclusion, together with the procedure presented in the PRISMA flowchart, 14 articles were selected and were qualitatively analyzed. The results show the need for further research, mainly in South America and among women. However, it is important to point out that these studies offer anthropometric references very similar to those found in other regions in the world. On the other hand, anthropometry and performance in physical fitness tests show better indicators concerning chronological age, performance in a given modality (national ranking) and specific training. When genders were compared, significant differences were found in terms of anthropometry and physical fitness. Finally, both in women and in men, advanced maturity is associated with better performance in speed tests for movement, strength and muscle power.

- Abstract
The present research aimed to investigate the meanings that the inhabitants of the Juan Pablo Segundo population give to the practice of physical activity, physical exercise and sport in public spaces as a means of setting up social networks and promoting citizen participation. For the purposes of this research, the qualitative methodology was used, from a phenomenological perspective. It was worked through in-depth interviews that were applied to typical settlers and emblematic characters of the Juan Pablo Segundo population, located in the Concepción commune. These interviews were reasoned through content analysis, using the computer tool "Atlas ti 6.0" for data analysis. The results showed that there are multiple factors, both facilitators and obstacles to the practice of physical activity, physical exercise and sport in public spaces, making this practice a condition that allows promoting citizen participation, in turn it is a powerful mechanism that facilitates participation. ABSTRACT Obesity is an inflammatory, chronic, recurrent and progressive disease with a multifactorial aetiology. More than 650 million people live with obesity across the globe, which represents a substantial physical, emotional and economic burden at all levels. Rapid urbanisation, economic growth and globalisation have deeply changed the lifestyles of the Chilean population and have worked in favour of an obesogenic environment. However, what factors have impacted the development of obesity in Chile? What has been the role of each one in the rise of its prevalence? In Chapter one of this literature review, we will discuss the main non- modifiable risk factors that have influenced its development, from the epidemiological transition that the country experienced in the 1970s to the related endocrine pathologies.

ABSTRACT Chile has one of the highest rates of obesity worldwide. Deaths attributed to obesity are likely to increase to 204,000 by 2030. There will be also a higher economic burden associated with this disease. There are many factors associated with obesity; however, it is known that one of the most effective strategies to decrease its prevalence is reducing modifiable risk factors, such as improving dietary patterns, performing physical activity, avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol as well as improving mental health. Nevertheless, how to make realize these changes is one of the biggest challenges. In this context, the aim of this literature review, chapter 2, was to investigate the main modifiable risk factors, with emphasis on individual factors, associated with the development of obesity in Chile: from a global view to the Chilean context.

Background: It is unknown if nutritional status could influence the accuracy of self-reported physical activity (PA) levels. Aim: To compare PA measured using the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) and by accelerometry (ActiGraph) according to nutritional status in Chilean adults. Material and Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study that used information from the GENADIO project carried out in Chile between 2009-2011. The sample consisted of 322 people. PA levels and sitting time were determined through the IPAQ self-report questionnaire and ActiGraph accelerometers (GTM1). The nutritional status was determined according to body mass index (BMI). Results: Compared with the measurement made with accelerometry, the IPAQ self-report questionnaire underestimated the levels of light PA, total PA and sedentary time in −171.5, −54.8 and −40.6 min / day, respectively. However, IPAQ overestimated the levels of moderate PA and vigorous PA in 91.0 and 47.3 min/day respectively, compared with accelerometry. Compared with normal weight, obese subjects reported higher levels of moderate PA (105.5 and 48.9 min/day, respectively) and vigorous PA (54.1 and 38.3 min/day respectively). Total PA had a greater delta of underestimation between IPAQ and accelerometer measurements in normal weight than in obese subjects (-122.1 vs −16.5 min/day, respectively). Conclusions: The measurement of PA by means of a self-report questionnaire was discrepant with its objective measurement with an accelerometer. The discrepancy is even higher in obese people.

Cognitive Dysfunction ,Sleep ,Aged - Abstract
Background Sleep duration may be a risk factor for cognitive impairment. Aim To investigate the association between sleep duration and cognitive function in Chilean older adults. Material and Methods We analyzed information from 1,384 participants aged > 60 years participating in the National Health Survey 2009-2010 who were assessed with the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and self-reported their average daily sleep hours. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the association between MMSE and sleep duration. Results Compared to those participants who reported sleeping 7 hours per day, those that reported sleeping < 5 hours had a higher odd for cognitive impairment (Odds ratio (OR): 3.66 [95% confidence intervals (CI: 1.69; 7.95], p < 0.01). Similarly, those who reported sleeping > 8 hours per day also showed a higher odd for cognitive impairment (OR: 2.56 [95% CI: 1.32; 4.95], p < 0.01). This association was even stronger for people who reported more than 10 hours of sleep per day (OR: 4.46 [95% CI: 1.32; 4.95], p < 0.01). Conclusions Long and short sleep duration is associated with cognitive impairment in older adults in Chile independent of major confounding factors.

Cognitive Impairment ,Aging ,Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviours - Abstract
Background: Lifestyle factors could promote healthy ageing. Aim: To investigate the association between physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior and cognitive impairment in Chilean older adults. Material and Methods: We included 1,390 participants from the National Health Survey (2009-2010). The Mini-Mental State Examination was used to diagnose cognitive impairment. Physical activity and sedentary behavior were assessed with the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ). Logistic regression was performed to investigate the associations. Results: Compared with older adults with lower levels of PA (< 48 min/day), those with middle (48-248 min/day) and higher (>248 min/day) levels of PA had lower odds for cognitive impairment (Odds ratio (OR): 0.57 [95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.33; 0.82], p < 0.01 and 0.58 [95% CI: 0.32; 0.83], p < 0.01, respectively). Participants who reported spending more than 8 hours/day sitting had a high odds for cognitive impairment compared to those who spent < 4 hours/day (OR: 3.70 [95% CI: 1.37; 6.03], p = 0.01). Conclusions: Both PA and sedentary behavior were independently associated with cognitive decline independent of major confounding factors in Chilean older adults.

ABSTRACT Obesity is an important cardiovascular risk factor. However, not all obese individuals have an unhealthy metabolic pro-file and vice versa. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of different metabolic phenotypes by nutritional status in Chile. Methods: 1,733 individuals from the National Health Survey 2009-10 were included in this study. Nutritional status (obesity or normal-weight) was determined by BMI whereas metabolic profile was determined through four parameters: Glycaemia, blood pressure, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Four metabolic phenotypes were derived, among them: MUNO: metabolically unhealthy and non-obese and MHO: metabolically healthy obesity. Results: The prevalence of MHO in the Chilean population was 3.3% while the prevalence of MUNO was 17.4%. Moreover, the prevalence of MHO decreased as age increased and a greater proportion of metabolically healthy individuals were in the highest gross income group and in the technical-university educational level. Conclusion: This study shows a low prevalence of MHO and a higher prevalence of MUNO in the Chilean population. Future preventive actions should take into account not only the nutritional status, but also the metabolic profile of the population.

ABSTRACT Although physical activity (PA) is a protective factor against non-communicable diseases, there is an important proportion of the population who do not meet PA guidelines. Our aim was to investigate how adherence to PA guidelines varies across different age groups in the Chilean population. 5,133 participants from the 2009-2010 Chilean Health Survey were included in this study. PA was measured using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ). Physical inactivity was defined as 60 years the prevalence increased markedly, reaching 63% and 56% for women and men aged >80 years, respectively. These findings confirm the necessity of promoting PA across the lifespan, but more importantly, these results suggest that more promotion and opportunities for engaging in PA should be created especially for older adults, who are more likely to be physically inactive.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the association between physical activity (PA), both occupational (OPA) and during leisure time (LTPA), with obesity and cardiovascular risk factors in Chilean adults. 5,157 participants from the Chilean National Health Survey 2009–2010 were included in this study. OPA and LTPA levels were assessed using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. The association between both PA with obesity and cardiovascular risk factors was determined using logistic regression. Our findings showed a significant trend between higher LTPA and lower odds for obesity (OR 0.64 [95% CI: 0.53; 0.76], central obesity 0.52 [0.44; 0.61]) and other cardiovascular risk factors including diabetes (OR: 0.72 [0.55; 0.94]), hypertension (OR: 0.59 [0.50; 0.71]) and metabolic syndrome (OR: 0.62 [0.50; 0.78]). In contrast, OPA was only associated with lower odds of diabetes (OR: 0.79 [0.65; 0.98]) and hypertension (0.85 [0.74; 0.98]). In conclusion, LTPA was associated with a lower risk of all major cardiovascular risk factors, whereas OPA was only associated with a lower risk of diabetes and hypertension.

Background: Healthy lifestyles are associated with a better metabolic and cardiovascular health profile. Aim: To investigate the association between a lifestyle score and cardiovascular risk in Chilean adults. Material and Methods: A healthy lifestyle score was derived for 2,774 participants in the Chilean National Health Survey 2009-2010 and based on seven modifiable behaviors (salt intake, fruit and vegetable intake, alcohol consumption, sleep duration, smoking, physical activity and sedentary behaviors). A high score represented a healthier lifestyle whereas a low score represents an unhealthy lifestyle. The association between the lifestyle score and cardiovascular risk factors (obesity, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome), was explored using logistic regression models. Results: One quartile increment in the healthy lifestyle score was associated with a lower risk for obesity (Odds ratio (OR): 0.82 [95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.75 to 0.90], p < 0.01), central obesity (OR: 0.88 [95% CI: 0.81 to 0.96], p < 0.01), diabetes (OR: 0.84 [95% CI: 0.75 to 0.95], p < 0.04) and dyslipidemia (OR: 0.90 [95% CI: 0.83 to 0.98], p = 0.01). These results were independent of major confounding factors. Conclusions: The adherence to a healthy lifestyle is associated with lower cardiovascular risk.

Background: Fat-mass-associated-gene (FTO) is associated with higher energy intake and specific food preferences. Aim: To investigate the association of the FTO genotype with energy intake, macronutrient and alcohol consumption. Material and Methods: Four hundred and nine participants of the GENADIO (Genes, Environment, Diabetes and Obesity) study were included. Energy intake, macronutrient and alcohol consumption were the outcomes of interest. The association of FTO (rs9939609) genotype with these outcomes was investigated using linear regression analyses, adjusting for confounding variables. Results: After adjusting for socio-demographic factors, being a carrier of the risk allele for the FTO gene was associated with a higher energy intake (173 kcal per each extra copy of the risk variant [95% confidence intervals (CI): 45; 301], (P = 0.008). After adjusting for lifestyle factors and body mass index, the association was slightly attenuated but remained significant (144 kcal [95% CI: 14; 274], p = 0.030). Conclusions: The FTO genotype is associated with a higher energy intake.

Background: Although cardiovascular risk factors are associated with an impaired cognitive function, the impact of diabetes on cognitive function in Chilean adults is unknown. Aim: To investigate the association of diabetes or family history of the disease with cognitive impairment in older adults. Materials and Methods: Data from the 2009-2010 Chilean National Health Survey including 1,384 participants aged ≥ 60 years were included in this study. A score below 13 points for the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was considered an indication of cognitive impairment. Logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association between MMSE, diabetes and family history of the disease. Results: Cognitive impairment increased with age (Odds ratio (OR): 1.83 [95% confidence intervals (CI): 1.53; 2.19], p < 0.01, per 5 years increment in age). This trend was greater in individuals with diabetes (OR: 2.37 [95% CI: 1.68; 3.35], p < 0.01) compared to those without the disease. A similar trend was identified among individuals with a family history of diabetes compared to those without. Conclusions: Older adults with diabetes are more susceptible to develop cognitive impairment.

Background: Physical inactivity is an important cardiovascular risk factor. Aim: To investigate the association of physical inactivity with obesity, metabolic markers, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and metabolic syndrome in Chilean adults. Material and Methods: Participants from the National Health Survey 2009-10 (n = 5,157) were included in this study. Body mass index, waist circumference, metabolic markers (blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin and lipid profile) were the outcomes. Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and metabolic syndrome were determined using international criteria. Physical activity levels were determined using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire and physical inactivity was defined as < 600 METs/minutes/week. Results: Compared to their physically active peers, inactive men and women had a higher odds ratio (OR) for obesity (OR: 1.77 [95% confidence intervals (CI): 1.29-2.42], p < 0.01 and 1.25 [95% CI: 102-1.54], p < 0.035, respectively), diabetes (OR: 2.47 [1.80-3.38], p < 0.01 and 1.72 [1.35-2.19], p = 0.002, respectively) and hypertension (OR: 1.66 [1.31-2.09], p < 0.01 and 1.83 [1.54-2.18] respectively. Sedentary Lifestyle ,Diabetes Mellitus ,Obesity ,Type 2 - Abstract
Background: Obesity and sedentary behavior are risk factors acting independently in the development of type 2 diabetes. Aim: To investigate whether the association between diabetes and obesity is modified by the levels of sitting time (ST) in the Chilean population. Material and Methods: We included 4,611 participants from the cross-sectional 2009-2010 Chilean National Health Survey in this study. Diabetes was determined as fasting glucose levels ≥126 mg/dl. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were measured using standardized protocols. Sitting time was assessed using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. The association among diabetes, obesity and ST was determined using logistic regression. Results: The odds for diabetes increased by 3.1-fold in people with high levels of ST and obesity in comparison to those with low levels of ST and normal BMI (Odds ratio (OR): 4.17 [95% confidence intervals (CI): 2.87 to 6.05], P < 0.01). The odds for diabetes increased by 2.7- fold in highly sedentary subjects with central obesity (OR: 3.73 [95% IC: 2.61 to 5.33], P < 0.01) in comparison to those with low levels of ST and normal WC. Conclusions: Elevated levels of sitting time and obesity are associated with a higher odds of developing diabetes.

Abstract Background: worldwide, prevalence of type 2 diabetes has doubled in the last years, mainly due to unhealthy lifestyle behaviours. They are many risk factors associated with diabetes, however, which factors are associated with diabetes in the Chilean population remains unknown. Therefore, the aim was to determine what risk factors are associated with the development of diabetes in Chile. Methods: four thousand and seven hundred participants from the cross-sectional 2009-2010 National Health Survey were included in this study (4,162 normal; 538 diabetics). Risk factors assessed were socio-demographic, anthropometric, lifestyle, well-being and comorbidities. The association between diabetes and risk factors was examined using logistic regression. Results: the main non-modifiable risk factors associated with diabetes were age ≥ 45 year, female and family history of diabetes; whereas the main modifiable risk factors were hypertension, overweight, obesity, central obesity, physical inactivity and higher levels of sitting time. Conclusion: the identification of modifiable risk factors for DMT2 is key to control and decrease the prevalence of this pathology and to improve the quality of life of the population.
