5. Improving Declarative Process Mining with a Priori Noise Filtering

Abstract

In this paper, we report the results of an exploratory study into the efficacy of noise filtering in improving the accuracy of declarative process mining. We apply the double-granularity mixed-dependency filtering algorithm as introduced by [9], to the DisCoveR declarative miner [1], and parameter optimise it to only perform coarse-grained filtering. However, while noise filtering appears promising on the surface, one might worry that the outlier behaviour allowed by declarative models may be wrongly classified as noise and removed. To test the efficacy of noise filtering from both perspectives, we applied DisCoveR with noise filtering to two data sets: the process log collection used in the PDC2020 process discovery contest, emulating “real-world” scenarios; and a synthetic set of logs known to exhibit (non-noise) outlier behaviour. We find that on the contest data sets, noise filtering significantly increases accuracy (on average 23% points), obtaining exploratory evidence that noise filtering may improve declarative miner performance; on the synthetic logs we showcase examples where noise is filtered, while outlier behaviour remains untouched.

Abstract

Electronic glasses use advanced assistive technology that can improve function for persons with visual impairments. This paper presents work in progress in the SmartSight project, where existing versions of electronic glasses are adapted and tested for persons with the visual impairments; macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. The project aims are to adapt and innovate electronic glasses for persons with impaired fields of vision and study the impact on the daily function and quality of life. In a pilot test of the electronic glasses, promising results were found that imply a big difference for persons with impaired vision. The outcome of the SmartSight project might change the clinical practise on treatment and rehabilitation of persons with impaired fields of vision, and on how the support services are organised.

Abstract

This article argues that employee co-creation, enabled by web 2.0 technologies, can contribute to successful digital transformation of healthcare services. The question of how to enable effective employee co-creation is under-researched (Lenka et al. 2017; Galvagno and Dalli 2014). Employee participation in co-creation is stated as an important enabler of digitalization and service improvements (Grönroos and Voima 2012). The Nordic Model for employee participation has proven successful for enhancing working life effectiveness and innovation (Nielsen et al. 2012). This article propose that these principles of employee participation can be further enhanced by using web 2.0 technologies for Enterprise Social Networks. Abstract

Recent advances in electronics and telecommunication have paved the way for service robots to enter the clinical world. While service robotics has long been a core research theme in computer science and other engineering-related fields, it has attracted little interest of Information Systems (IS) researchers so far. We argue that service robotics represents an interesting area of investigation, especially for healthcare, since current research lacks a thorough examination of socio-technical problems and contextual influencing factors. This study identifies current research thrusts and delineates possible areas for theoretical, empirical, or design-oriented research for IS scholars. By means of a systematic literature review, we explore the current use, users, and utility of service robots in healthcare. Based on these findings, we suggest research topics that have the potential to be of practical significance. Our aim is to make substantive steps towards establishing service robotics as new research theme in information systems research.
