Acoustoplasmonic resonators, such as nanobars and crosses, are efficient acousto-optical transducers. The excitation of mechanical modes in these structures strongly depends on the spatial profile of the eigenmodes of the resonator. Using a system of two identical gold elongated bars placed on a silicon dioxide substrate, we examine how breaking mirror symmetries affects the optical and acoustic properties to provide insights in the design of acoustoplasmonic metasurfaces for nonsymmetric acousto-optical transducers. Our findings show that, the absence of mirror symmetries affects differently the optical and nanomechanical response. Broken mirror symmetries not only couple nanomechanical modes existing in single bars, but introduces new torsional resonant modes.

Non-conventional resonances, both acoustic and photonic, are found in metallic particles with a toroidal nanopropeller geometry that is generated by sweeping a three-lobed 2D-shape along a spiral with twisting angle, ${\alpha}$. For both optical and acoustic cases, spectral location of resonances experiences a red-shift as a function of ${\alpha}$. We demonstrate that the optical case can be understood as a natural evolution of resonances as the spiral length of the toroidal nanopropeller increases with ${\alpha}$, implying a huge helicity dependent absorption cross section. In the case of acoustic response, two red-shifting breathing modes are identified. Additionally, even small ${\alpha}$ allows the appearance of new low-frequency resonances, whose spectral dispersion depends on a competition between length of the generative spiral and the pitch of the toroidal nanopropeller., Comment: 9 pages 7 figures

In a recent work by Gonz\'alez-P\'erez, Parcet and Xia, the boundedness over non-commutative $L_p$-spaces of an analogue of the Hilbert transform was studied. This analogue is defined as a Fourier multiplier with symbol $m\colon \mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{C})\to \mathbb{R}$ arising from the action by isometries of $\mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ on the $3$-dimensional hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^3$. More concretely, $m$ is a lifting of the function on $\mathbb{H}^3$ that takes values $\pm 1$ in the two regions formed by dividing the space by a hyperbolic plane. The boundedness of $T_m$ on $L_p(\mathcal{L} \mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ for $p\neq 2$ was disproved by Parcet, de la Salle and Tablate. Nevertheless, we will show that this Fourier multiplier is bounded when restricted to the arithmetic lattices $\mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{Z}[\sqrt{-n}])$, solving a question left open by Gonz\'alez-P\'erez, Parcet and Xia., Comment: 9 pages

This paper investigates citizens' counter-strategies to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by law enforcement agencies (LEAs). Based on information from three countries (Greece, Italy and Spain) we demonstrate disparities in the likelihood of ten specific counter-strategies. We further identified factors that increase the propensity for counter-strategies. Let $\mathbf{E}_n: \mathcal{M} \to \mathcal{M}_n$ and $\mathbf{E}_m: \mathcal{N} \to \mathcal{N}_m$ be two sequences of conditional expectations on finite von Neumann algebras. The optimal weak Orlicz type of the associated strong maximal operator $\mathcal{E} = (\mathbf{E}_n\otimes \mathbf{E}_m)_{n,m}$ is not yet known. In a recent work of Jose Conde and the two first-named authors, it was show that $\mathcal{E}$ has weak type $(\Phi, \Phi)$ for a family of functions including $\Phi(t) = t \, \log^{2+\varepsilon} t$, for every $\varepsilon > 0$. In this article, we prove that the weak Orlicz type of $\mathcal{E}$ cannot be lowered below $L \log^2 L$, meaning that if $\mathcal{E}$ is of weak type $(\Phi, \Phi)$, then $\Phi(s) \not\in o(s \, \log^2 s)$. Our proof is based on interpolation. Namely, we use recent techniques of Cadilhac/Ricard to formulate a Marcinkiewicz type theorem for maximal weak Orlicz types. Then, we show that a weak Orlicz type lower than $L \log^2 L$ would imply a $p$-operator constant for $\mathcal{E}$ smaller than the known optimum as $p \to 1^{+}$., Comment: 16 pages; Minor changes, acknowledgment added

In June 1976, a pristine meteorite stone weighing approximately 1 kg, fully covered with a fresh black fusion crust, was collected on a mountain road in the high-altitude Alpine environment. The recovery took place while clearing the remnants of a snow avalanche, 2 km northwest of Ischgl in Austria. Subsequent to its retrieval, the specimen remained in the finder's private residence without undergoing any scientific examination or identification until 2008, when it was brought to the University of Innsbruck. The sample was classified as a well-preserved LL6 chondrite, with a W0 weathering grade, implying a relatively short time between the meteorite fall and its retrieval. To investigate the potential connection between the Ischgl meteorite and a recorded fireball event, we have reviewed all documented fireballs ever photographed by German fireball camera stations. This examination led us to identify the fireball EN241170 observed in Germany by ten different European Network stations on the night of November 23/24, 1970, as the most likely candidate. We employed state-of-the-art techniques to reconstruct the fireball's trajectory, and to reproduce both its luminous and dark flight phases in detail. We find that the determined strewn field and the generated heat map closely align with the recovery location of the Ischgl meteorite. Furthermore, the measured radionuclide data reported here indicate that the pre-atmospheric size of the Ischgl meteoroid is consistent with the mass estimate inferred from our deceleration analysis along the trajectory. Our findings strongly support the conclusion that the Ischgl meteorite originated from the EN241170 fireball, effectively establishing it as a confirmed meteorite fall. The advancement of Parkinson's Disease (PD) diagnosis through speech analysis is hindered by a notable lack of publicly available, diverse language datasets, limiting the reproducibility and further exploration of existing research. In response to this gap, we introduce a comprehensive corpus from 108 native Castilian Spanish speakers, comprising 55 healthy controls and 53 individuals diagnosed with PD, all of whom were under pharmacological treatment and recorded in their medication-optimized state. This unique dataset features a wide array of speech tasks, including sustained phonation of the five Spanish vowels, diadochokinetic tests, 16 listen-and-repeat utterances, and free monologues. The dataset emphasizes accuracy and reliability through specialist manual transcriptions of the listen-and-repeat tasks and utilizes Whisper for automated monologue transcriptions, making it the most complete public corpus of Parkinsonian speech, and the first in Castillian Spanish. NeuroVoz is composed by 2,903 audio recordings averaging $26.88 \pm 3.35$ recordings per participant, offering a substantial resource for the scientific exploration of PD's impact on speech. This dataset has already underpinned several studies, achieving a benchmark accuracy of 89% in PD speech pattern identification, indicating marked speech alterations attributable to PD. Despite these advances, the broader challenge of conducting a language-agnostic, cross-corpora analysis of Parkinsonian speech patterns remains an open area for future research. The large number of sensors and actuators that make up the Internet of Things obliges these systems to use diverse technologies and protocols. This means that IoT networks are more heterogeneous than traditional networks. This gives rise to new challenges in cybersecurity to protect these systems and devices which are characterized by being connected continuously to the Internet. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are used to protect IoT systems from the various anomalies and attacks at the network level. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) can be improved through machine learning techniques. Our work focuses on creating classification models that can feed an IDS using a dataset containing frames under attacks of an IoT system that uses the MQTT protocol. We have addressed two types of method for classifying the attacks, ensemble methods and deep learning models, more specifically recurrent networks with very satisfactory results.

We extend the method of Controlled Lagrangians to nonholonomic Euler--Poincar\'e equations with advected parameters, specifically to those mechanical systems on Lie groups whose symmetry is broken not only by a potential force but also by nonholonomic constraints. We introduce advected-parameter-dependent quasivelocities in order to systematically eliminate the Lagrange multipliers in the nonholonomic Euler--Poincar\'e equations. The quasivelocities facilitate the method of Controlled Lagrangians for these systems, and lead to matching conditions that are similar to those by Bloch, Leonard, and Marsden for the standard holonomic Euler--Poincar\'e equation. Our motivating example is what we call the pendulum skate, a simple model of a figure skater developed by Gzenda and Putkaradze. We show that the upright spinning of the pendulum skate is stable under certain conditions, whereas the upright sliding equilibrium is always unstable. A formula for the sum of quadratic residues modulus a prime $p=4n-1$ is studied. We relate some terms on this formula with roots of quadratics and provide an exhaustive analysis of new concepts based on these roots. A number of formulas for the sum of the quadratic residues are obtained. We finalize the paper by obtaining several identities involving $h(-p)$ the class number of the imaginary quadratic field $\mathbb Q(\sqrt{-p}).$

Health metrics from wrist-worn devices demand an automatic dominant hand prediction to keep an accurate operation. The prediction would improve reliability, enhance the consumer experience, and encourage further development of healthcare applications. This paper aims to evaluate the use of physiological and spatiotemporal context information from a two-hand experiment to predict the wrist placement of a commercial smartwatch. The main contribution is a methodology to obtain an effective model and features from low sample rate physiological sensors and a self-reported context survey. Results show an effective dominant hand prediction using data from a single subject under real-life conditions.

Complex agricultural problems concern many countries, as the economic motives are increasingly higher, and at the same time the consequences from the irrational resources use and emissions are becoming more evident. In this work we study three of the most common agricultural problems and model them through optimization techniques, showing ways to assess conflicting objectives together as a system and provide overall optimum solutions. The studied problems refer to: i) a water-scarce area with overexploited surface and groundwater resources due to over-pumping for irrigation (Central Greece), ii) a water-abundant area with issues of water quality deterioration caused by agriculture (Southern Ontario, Canada), iii) and a case of intensified agriculture based on animal farming that causes issues of water, soil quality degradation, and increased greenhouse gases emissions (Central Ireland). Linear, non-linear, and Goal Programming optimization techniques have been developed and applied for each case to maximize farmers welfare, make a less intensive use of environmental resources, and control the emission of pollutants. The proposed approaches and their solutions are novel applications for each case-study, compared to the existing literature and practice. Given an initial family of sets, we may take unions, intersections and complements of the sets contained in this family in order to form a new collection of sets; our construction process is done recursively until we obtain the last family. Problems encountered in this research include the minimum number of steps required to arrive to the last family as well as a characterization of that last family; we solve all those problems. We also define a class of simple families ($n$-minimal constructible) and we analyze the relationships between partitions and separability (our new concept) that lead to interesting results such as finding families based on partitions that generate finite algebras. We prove a number of new results about $n$-minimal constructible families; one major result is that every finite algebra of sets has a generating family which is $n$-minimal constructible for all natural $n$ and we compute the minimum number of steps required to generate an algebra. Another interesting result is a connection between this construction process and Baire's Theorem. This work has a number of possible applications, particularly in the fields of economics and computer science.
