Abstract

Thanks to the Big Data revolution and increasing computing capacities, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made an impressive revival over the past few years and is now omnipresent in both research and industry. The creative sectors have always been early adopters of AI technologies and this continues to be the case. As a matter of fact, recent technological developments keep pushing the boundaries of intelligent systems in creative applications: the critically acclaimed movie "Sunspring", released in 2016, was entirely written by AI technology, and the first-ever Music Album, called "Hello World", produced using AI has been released this year. Simultaneously, the exploratory nature of the creative process is raising important technical challenges for AI such as the ability for AI-powered techniques to be accurate under limited data resources, as opposed to the conventional "Big Data" approach, or the ability to process, analyse and match data from multiple modalities (text, sound, images, etc.) at the same time. The purpose of this white paper is to understand future technological advances in AI and their growing impact on creative industries. This paper addresses the following questions: Where does AI operate in creative Industries? What is its operative role? How will AI transform creative industries in the next ten years? This white paper aims to provide a realistic perspective of the scope of AI actions in creative industries, proposes a vision of how this technology could contribute to research and development works in such context, and identifies research and development challenges.

Abstract

Many industrial companies capture high volume of time series data from their industrial processes. However, to visualize it, regular visualization approaches require specialized hardware. Thus, downsampling algorithms are required to create a simplified view of the original data. Although industrial processes involve synchronized variables that should be visualized together for their analysis, existing downsampling algorithms tackle visualization of univariate data series. This paper proposes an adaptive extension of the M4 algorithm for multivariate datasets. The algorithm has been validated successfully with data from a conventional 3D turning operation and commodity hardware. For validation, a direct image comparison has been performed. Abstract

Located in the quarter of El Carmel of Barcelona, in the foothills of the northern slope of the Turó de la Rovira, the Rambla del Carmel represents the largest public space in the quarter of El Carmel with an approximate area of 12.000m2. It is currently constituted by a public parking lot, the municipal sports centre of El Carmel and the small green area of the Eduard Batiste and Alentorn garden. The present appearance of the Rambla was inaugurated in 1991 as a result of the perforation of the tunnels of the Turó de la Rovira. This large area was obtained through the eviction of many families and it generated great discontent in the neighbourhood. The unrest and the dissatisfaction of this space on the part of the neighbours still exists nowadays because the alleged benefits of a public space of such proportions are still insufficient at the moment. Especially, the deserted appearance makes it unattractive for the citizens. The lack of shaded areas, open living areas and street furniture creates an underutilized space for the neighbours, who ask for improvements to be made. This proposal seeks to enhance this area through the understanding of the origins of the place and how events have led to the present situation in order to plan more precise actions to be taken. The improvement lies in the green colonization of this space generally made of concrete- paying attention to the limiting factors of the area like the lack of soil, the architecture, the traffic of vehicles and the present uses. It has been necessary to find a solution to introduce vegetation where it is viable and, moreover, to solve the problem of underutilization on the part of the residents. Given the lack of soil, the decision has been to install large metallic jardinières to perform the function of flowerbeds. The disposition of the jardinières all over the Rambla will allow us to contain the substrate and the vegetation. Fiddling with the different applications and possibilities brought about by the trees, shrubs and herbaceous and climbing plants it will be possible to create shaded areas and enhance the local biodiversity. To sum up, the compounded effect will generate social and environmental benefits through a better utilization of the space and a more enjoyable area for the neighbours. Situada al barri del Carmel de Barcelona, als peus de la vessant nord del Turó de la Rovira, la Rambla del Carmel se'ns presenta com l'espai públic més ampli del barri del Carmel amb una superfície aproximada de 12.000 m2. L'actual ordenació de la Rambla va ser inaugurada l'any 1991 arrel de la perforació dels túnels de la Rovira. Sota la Rambla hi trobem un pàrquing públic i el poliesportiu municipal del Carmel, i la petita zona verda dels Jardíns de Eduard Batiste i Alentorn. Aquest gran espai es va aconseguir amb el desnonament de moltes famílies i va crear un gran descontent al barri. Aquest malestar i rebuig del veí cap a l'espai continua avui dia, ja que no es treuen els beneficis suficients que s'haurien de treure d'un espai públic d'aquestes dimensions. L'aspecte desèrtic fa que no sigui gens atractiu pel ciutadà. La falta d'ombres, zones d'estada i mobiliari urbà crea un espai poc aprofitat pels veïns, que reclamen millores. Aquesta proposta, pretén millorar l'espai en primer lloc, entenent els orígens de l'espai per conèixer com s'ha arribat a la situació actual i finalment, per poder planificar una actuació més acurada. La millora gira entorn a la colonització des del verd d'aquest espai on predomina el formigó. Tenint en compte els factors limitats existents de l'espai com són la manca de sòl, l'arquitectura, circulació de transit i d'usos que d'aquesta se'n fa. S'ha hagut de trobar una solució per introduir vegetació on fos viable la supervivència d'aquesta i que a més solucioni els problemes de falta d'ús per part dels veïns. Degut a la manca de sòl on plantar, s'ha decidit instal·lar grans jardineres metàl·liques que faran la funció de parterres. Aquestes col·locades arreu de la Rambla ens permetran contenir substrat i la vegetació. Sempre s'ha fet jugant amb els diferents usos i possibilitats que ens donen els arbres, l'arbustiva i les plantes herbàcies o enfiladisses es crearan ombres, i es generarà biodiversitat. Així doncs, gràcies a tot plegat es generaran uns beneficis socials i ambientals que permetran de recuperar l'espai a més de treuren treure'n profit. Situada en el barrio del Carmelo de Barcelona, a los pies de la vertiente norte del Turó de la Rovira, la Rambla del Carmelo se nos presenta como el espacio público más amplio del barrio del Carmelo con una superficie aproximada de 12.000 m2. Actualmente constituida por un parking público, el polideportivo municipal del Carmelo y la pequeña zona verde de los jardines de Eduard Batiste y Alentorn, el aspecto actual de la Rambla fue inaugurado en 1991 a raíz de la perforación de los túneles de la Rovira. Este gran espacio se logró con el desahucio de muchas familias y creó un gran descontento en el barrio. Este malestar y rechazo de los vecinos hacia el espacio continúa hoy en día, ya que no se extraen los beneficios suficientes que se deberían extraer de un espacio público de estas dimensiones. El aspecto desértico y vacío hace que no sea nada atractivo para el ciudadano. La falta de sombras, zonas de estancia y mobiliario urbano crea un espacio poco aprovechado por unos vecinos, que reclaman mejoras. Esta propuesta, pretende mejorar el espacio entendiendo los orígenes del sitio, conociendo cómo se ha llegado a la situación actual para poder planificar una actuación más precisa. La mejora gira entorno a la colonización des del verde de este espacio donde predomina el hormigón. Atendiendo a los factores limitados existentes del espacio como son la falta de suelo, la arquitectura, el tránsito de vehículos y los usos que de esta se extraen. Se ha tenido que encontrar una solución para introducir vegetación donde fuera viable su supervivencia y que además solucione los problemas de falta de uso por parte de los vecinos. Debido a la falta de suelo donde plantar, se ha decidido instalar grandes jardineras metálicas que harán la función de parterres. Estas colocadas por toda la Rambla nos permitirán contener sustrato y la vegetación. Jugando con los diferentes usos y posibilidades que nos dan los árboles, las arbustivas y las plantas herbáceas o trepadoras se crearán sombras y se generará biodiversidad. Todo ello nos generará unos beneficios sociales y ambientales a fin de recuperar el espacio y sacarle provecho.
