Behavioral activation therapy is presented as a promising psychological intervention to enhance depression management and related symptoms by increasing engagement in rewarding activities. This study reviews three research endeavors, including randomized controlled trials and a case study. Variability in intervention duration and training approaches is noted, although typically, eight sessions per week were conducted. Therapy components range from participating in pleasurable activities to ongoing support outside sessions. The process of evidence source selection relied on identifying 327 articles across four databases, with three selected for review, utilizing the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews. This ensured rigorous eligibility criteria and a structured methodology for data collection. Overall, these findings support the effectiveness and applicability of behavioral activation therapy in treating depression in older adults. Training non-specialized healthcare personnel would improve the overall quality of medical care and facilitate the dissemination of evidence-based therapies. Introduction: The environments in which doctors in training operate have been distinguished by being rigid, hostile and routine. There is scientific evidence that people who are victims of workplace violence are more likely to suffer from depression, a disorder that has been associated with suicidal ideation., Objective: To predict suicidal ideation as a function of depressive symptoms and workplace violence in undergraduate internal physicians., Material and Methods: The quantitative method was used through a non-experimental, cross-sectional, explanatory design with non-probabilistic convenience sampling. 117 medical students who were doing their internship in health centers in Sonora, Mexico participated. Participants responded to the Workplace Violence Scale (Mobbing), the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Beck Suicidal Ideation Scale., Results: A high perception of workplace violence, moderate levels of depression and low levels of suicidal ideation were identified; Workplace violence was positively and significantly associated with depression and suicidal behavior. Furthermore, it was found that violence provides more explanation for suicidal behavior compared to depression., Conclusions: The predictive role of workplace violence in the suicidal behavior of undergraduate internal physicians is confirmed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the FES-I scale in community-dwelling older Mexican adults. Participants were 222 older adults, with a mean age of 70 years; 75% were women who completed a sociodemographic data sheet, a Spanish version of the FES-I scale, intended to explore measures of depression, quality of life, and instrumental activities of daily living. Discriminant validity was demonstrated for all items on the FES-I scale and when groups of older adults were compared according to age. Evidence of internal consistency was found in all the items of the FES-I scale (α = .91) and convergent and divergent validity of the FES-I scale with measures of depression and quality of life, except instrumental activities of daily living. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis shows that the FES-I scale partially retains its two-factor measurement properties since five items were removed from the model to fit the data. Background: Emotional and stress-related disorders show high incidence, prevalence, morbidity, and comorbidity rates in Mexico. In recent decades, research findings indicate that cognitive behavioral interventions, from a disorder-specific perspective, are the effective front-line treatment for anxiety and depression care. However, these treatments are not often used. Reasons include limited access and low availability to effective interventions and comorbidity between mental disorders. Emotional deregulation of negative affectivity has been found to be a mediating factor in addressing emotional disorders from a transdiagnostic perspective, aimed at two or more specific disorders. In addition, technological advancement has created alternatives for psychological assistance, highlighting the possibilities offered by technologies since Internet-supported intervention programs have been empirically tested for effectiveness, efficiency and efficacy and can be key to ensuring access to those who are inaccessible. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy, moderators of clinical change and acceptability of a transdiagnostic guided Internet-delivered intervention versus a transdiagnostic self-guided Internet-delivered intervention for emotional, trauma and stress-related disorders, and waiting list in community sample., Methods: A three-armed, parallel group, superiority randomized controlled clinical trial with repeated measurements at four times: pretest, posttest, follow-up at 3, 6 and 12 months. Outcomes assessor, participant, care provider and investigator will be blinded. Participants aged 18 to 70 years will be randomly allocated 1:1:1 to one of three study arms: a) Transdiagnostic guided internet-delivered intervention with synchronous assistance, b) Transdiagnostic self-guided internet-delivered intervention, c) Waiting list group. Based on sample size estimation, a minimum of 207 participants (69 in each intervention group) will be included., Discussion: The study could contribute to improving the efficacy of transdiagnostic internet-delivered interventions to promote the dissemination of evidence-based treatments and eventually, to decrease the high prevalence of emotional and trauma-related disorders in the Mexican population., Trial Registration: ClinicalTrial.gov: NCT05225701 . Background: Scientific research has reported various stressors that could be related to the development of burnout in resident physicians., Objective: To identify the perceived stressors associated with burnout in residents of various medical specialties in Mexico's northwest., Material and Methods: A cross-sectional, explanatory, observational, and analytical study was carried out. The sampling was non-probabilistic. Resident physicians from two hospitals in southern Sonora participated. The Occupational Burnout Scale (OED) and the Stressors Check List with intensity were used., Results: 189 resident physicians were included. 87% presented high levels of burnout. Specifically, the work overload and job dissatisfaction stressors were the ones with the greatest predictive power of burnout and dissatisfaction with achievement in resident physicians. By dimensions, physical problems were predictors of the pain dimension in the occupational burnout state. Professional exercise and physical problems predicted burnout in occupational burnout state. And physical problems were predictors for the presence of depression., Conclusions: The data obtained confirm the need to attend physical and mental health of resident doctors, and promote optimal work environments that have a positive impact on the well-being of their members., (© 2022 Revista Medica del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.)

The objective of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Geriatric Depression Scale in its 15-item version (GDS-15) in Mexican older adults. Participants included 1178 older adults between the ages of 60 and 94 ( M = 69.16, SD = 7.69); 53.9% were women and 55.8% were married or with a partner. They completed the GDS-15, a subjective well-being scale, and a quality-of-life questionnaire. A Kuder-Richardson coefficient of .80 was obtained, which indicates an acceptable internal consistency of the GDS-15, as well as evidence of divergent validity with significant correlations of -.783 with subjective well-being and -.569 with quality of life, in addition to concurrent validity when discriminating between participants with low scores from those with high scores of depressive symptoms. The need for a simple screening tool such as the GDS-15 that helps in the identification of depressive symptoms in Mexican older adults is underlined.

Dental treatment for anxious or fearful intellectually disabled children/adolescents (IDCA) may present great challenges, due to deficits in cognitive, intellectual, language, and social abilities, in conjunction with limited adaptive behavior. In many cases, it is necessary for the Dentist to implement advanced behavioral control techniques. Inclusive Dentistry (ID) considers profoundly each patient's individual interests and likes, including the social and family situations, for choosing the respective personalized plan -contemplating potential risks and benefits- for the behavior control, in order to obtain the maximal possible cooperation of the patient in the dental chair. Through ID, the Pediatric Dental Practitioner aims to alleviate the anxiety and fear of IDCA in the clinical setting, in such a way that these patients are positively motivated, on a long-term basis, for current and future oral care, both at the dental office and at home. This management approach may be a time-consuming method or require more effort by the dentist, but it reaps benefits when applied for many mild-to-moderate (and some severe) IDCA. The Practitioner must possess the knowledge, in-depth understanding, and professional training for the adequate use of ID during the behavioral management of anxious or fearful IDCA. The aim of the present report was to describe four representative clinical cases of IDCA at our Clinic, managed under the philosophical principles of ID.

Objective: To demonstrate the capacitance stages acquired by the spermatozoa after the in vivo contact with the endometrium and the human cervical canal., Study Type: Experimental, prospective, and longitudinal., Materials and Methods: Spermatozoa obtained from the cervix and endometrium, plus post-capacitated semen in a 1 and 4 hours process, from couples that have proved fertility, were processed to evaluate motility, morphology, vitality and identification of morphological patterns with chlortetracycline and then inducted to acrosomal reaction with ionophore A23187., Results: A safe, fast and harmless technique to obtain endometrial secretions is described. The spermatozoa capacitated in vitro and in vivo developed specific capacitance stages, applying Perry's patterns with the CTC test. Spermatozoa capacitated in vitro and then recovered in the cervix responded favorably to the induction of the acrosomal reaction with calcium ionophore A23187, differing from the obtained with endometrium wash., Conclusions: The spermatozoa recovered from the endometrium presented a more advanced capacitance stage than that obtained from the cervix, this is demonstrated with the induction of the acrosomal reaction and the CTC test. These findings suggest that endometrial and cervical tissues promote capacitance, different in each one of them and progressive in their biological route.

A method for inducing highly specific cortisol antibodies for measuring plasmatic cortisol by RIA is described. The method is fast, direct (without extraction or separation), with high specificity, due to the high quality of the antibody produced in our laboratory. Reliability was demonstrated by: the sensitivity of the method, with a pattern curve of 50 pg of cortisol; the precision tests showed a variation rate intranalysis of < 9.7% and internalysis of < 17.6%; accuracy was > 87%; and specificity was demonstrated by antiserum characterization with other steroids. Measurings of cortisol in plasma of normal subjects could detect the circadian cycle pattern as well as normal supression with dexametasone. These findings support that our method allows fast measurement of plasmatic cortisol with accuracy and sensitivity, reducing operative cost.

Semen quality may be affected by many factors, as there is evidence that conditions as varicocele, criptorquidia, orchitis and bacterian infections; as well as to exposure to physical agents as heat, or chemical substances, or ingestion of alcohol and drugs, may affect semen quality. The objective of this study is to investigate the risk implied in the exposure to these factors on the semen quality. The study was carried out in a prospective way in a group of males at Clínica de Infertilidad, Unidad de Biología de la Reproducción del Hospital Universitario Dr. J.E. González. Ninety nine males were studied, they received an intentioned questionnaire about antecedents of exposure to environmental factors, and urologic resolved pathology. Espermatobioscopy was done and it was classified according to OMS. Two groups were formed, one with the individuals with normal espermatobioscopy (n = 25); and the abnormal ones (n = 74). The statistical Incidences Reason, square Xi and Atributable Risk, were applied in order to determine the impact that different factors may have on semen quality. The found alterations in semen were astenozoospermia (n = 58); hypospermia (n = 22); oligozoospermia (n = 18); teratozoospermia (n = 7); polizoospermia (n = 7); and azoospermia (n = 6). The results of the mentioned statistical tests, show that in these alterations there is an associated risk factor to the use of tobacco, exposure to chemical substances, to physical aggresors; and anatomic anomalies previously corrected. It is considered that obtention of this information is a great help because once the unfavorable factors are eliminated, the environment is improved in order to obtain an espermatogenesis in optimal conditions.

A practical method to measure 17-OHP, in peripheral blood by radioimmunoanalysis using a highly specific antiserum, is described. The method usefulness described in dependability studies present a sensitivity of the pattern curve of 10 picograms; precision shows a variation rate intranalysis < or = 11.9% and interanalysis of < or = 10.0%. Accuracy was > or = 95% and specificity is demonstrated by antiserum characterization with other steroids. Measuring 17-OHP4 in ng/ml in plasma of women under different physiological conditions, it was found that the levels of this hormone on day -5 of proliferative phase were 0.31 +/- 0.24 nanograms (ng)/ml, and at day +7 of secretory phase of 1.47 +/- 0.65 ng/ml. In patients with stimulation with ACTH show as to the basal sample an increase (double) of levels at 30 minutes, that keeps increasing until 90 minutes with certain trend to diminish at 120 minutes. This study shows that it is possible, to measure 17-OHP4 in human plasma with good dependability degree and easy handling reducing, in addition, operative cost.

Our methodology for obtaining zona-free ova from golden hamster females (Mesocricetus Auratus Waterhouse) is described here. Five groups of 5 females were superovulated injecting intraperitoneally pregnant mare gonadothropins (PMG) at different dosages. The control group received 0.25 ml of distilled water. We harvested 653 ova from the stimulated females with an average of 32.65 per individual (range 16-52). The control group produced a total of 50 ova with an average of 10 (range 0-14). PMG optimum dose was 25 IU with an average of 39 (S.D. +/- 10.93) (n = 195 ova). The best conditions for denuding the cumulus was a 0.01% hyaluronidase solution with an average time of 10 minutes (S.D. +/- 03'56"). The optimum conditions for digesting the zona was 0.20% trypsin during 03'20" (S.D. +/- 01'19"). The proof that the ova were not damaged by the procedure was by means of a supravital stain (Eosin Y). All mature ova (N = 681) were not affected by enzymes or manipulation. Final preparation used a 1% acetic acid fixation and staining with 0.01% methylene blue, both acting for 1-3 minutes. Animal gametes give us the opportunity to substitute human ova in biology of reproduction studies and experiments, avoiding technical, ethical and moral problems.

A group of 89 sterile patients with hypothalamic anovulation were subjected to progressive dosages of clomiphene citrate according to a predesigned program. In order to analyze our results, we divided our patients into seven groups, according to the largest dosage of clomiphene citrate received. Clinical features were revised in relation to the ovulatory dose of clomiphene. Significant differences between groups regarding weight, menstrual pattern, age at menarche, and hirsutism were not found. Obesity increased the dose required for ovulation when it was less than 900 mg/cycle, but had no effect at higher doses. The ovulation rate, pregnancies, prenatal wastage, and side effects of treatment were analyzed; and it was found that the scheme for ovulation induction used, without expensive and sophisticated ovarian monitoring resources, improved ovulation and pregnancy rates with few and unimportant deleterious side effects.
