The Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory (SWGO) is a project by scientists and engineers from 14 countries and 78 institutions to design and build the first wide-field, ground-based gamma-ray observatory in the Southern Hemisphere, with high duty cycle and covering an energy range rom hundreds of GeV to the PeV scale. The observatory will cover the Southern sky and aims to map the Galaxy's large-scale emission, as well as detecting transient and variable phenomena. The host sites under consideration are at a minimum altitude of 4400 m.a.s.l. and comprise two types: flat plateaus of at least 1 km$^{2}$ for the installation of an array of tank-based water Cherenkov detectors (WCD), or large natural lakes for the direct deployment of WCD units. Four South American countries proposed excellent sites to host the observatory meeting these requirements. Argentina proposed two locations in the Salta province, Bolivia presented one site in Chacaltaya, Chile two locations within the Atacama Astronomical Park, and Peru two ground-based locations in the Arequipa district as well as lakes in the Cuzco region. The SWGO collaboration is currently conducting a site characterization study, gathering all the necessary information for site shortlisting and final site selection by the end of 2023. The process has reached the shortlisting phase, in which primary and backup sites for each country have been identified. The primary sites were visited by a team of experts from the collaboration, to investigate and validate the proposed site characteristics. Abstract Background Familiar cardiopathies are genetic disorders that affect the heart. Cardiologists face a significant problem when treating patients suffering from these disorders: most DNA variations are novel (i.e., they have not been classified before). To facilitate the analysis of novel variations, we present CardioGraph, a platform specially designed to support the analysis of novel variations and help determine whether they are relevant for diagnosis. To do this, CardioGraph identifies and annotates the consequence of variations and provides contextual information regarding which heart structures, pathways, and biological processes are potentially affected by those variations. Methods We conducted our work through three steps. First, we define a data model to support the representation of the heterogeneous information. Second, we instantiate this data model to integrate and represent all the genomics knowledge available for familiar cardiopathies. In this step, we consider genomic data sources and the scientific literature. Third, the design and implementation of the CardioGraph platform. A three-tier structure was used: the database, the backend, and the frontend. Results Three main results were obtained: the data model, the knowledge base generated with the instantiation of the data model, and the platform itself. The platform code has been included as supplemental material in this manuscript. Besides, an instance is publicly available in the following link: https://genomics-hub.pros.dsic.upv.es:3090 . Conclusion CardioGraph is a platform that supports the analysis of novel variations. Future work will expand the body of knowledge about familiar cardiopathies and include new information about hotspots, functional studies, and previously reported variations.

Sin embargo, los bosques tropicales generan otros productos que, en algunos países, pueden tener un alto valor, comparable con el de la madera, llamados “productos forestales menores†o “productos forestales no maderables†(‘PFNM’). Desafortunadamente, este rótulo no realza el hecho de que su aprovechamiento es una actividad importante en economías rurales. Los PFNM han suscitado interés por su contribución económica y social en muchos países, sobre todo para poblaciones rurales; en toda América Latina se aprovechan y, particularmente, en Colombia, es necesario reglamentar de forma clara y precisa su explotación. Aquí presentamos un marco conceptual para los PFNM en Colombia y describimos la contribución potencial de los manglares a este mercado.

We present a method to study the dynamics of a quasi-two dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate which contains initially many vortices at arbitrary locations. We present first the analytical solution of the dynamics in a homogeneous medium and in a parabolic trap for the ideal non-interacting case. For the homogeneous case this was introduced in the context of photonics. Here we discuss this case in the context of Bose-Einstein condensates and extend the analytical solution to the trapped case, for the first time. This linear case allows one to obtain the trajectories of the position of phase singularities present in the initial condensate along with time. Also, it allows one to predict some quantities of interest, such as the time at which a vortex and an antivortex contained in the initial condensate will merge. Secondly, the method is complemented with numerical simulations of the non-linear case. We use a numerical split-step simulation of the non-linear Gross-Pitaevskii equation to determine how these trajectories and quantities of interest are changed by the presence of interactions. We illustrate the method with several simple cases of interest both in the homogeneous and parabolically trapped systems., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. 20. Detection of period-spacing patterns due to the gravity modes of rotating dwarfs in the TESS southern continuous viewing zone

Context: the theory of stellar evolution presents shortcomings when confronted with asteroseismic probes of interior physical properties. The differences between observations and theory are often great because stellar models have mainly been calibrated from observables connected to the surface of stars. Period-spacing patterns caused by gravity modes are a particularly powerful asteroseismic tool that are useful for probing the near-core rotation and mixing of chemical elements in main-sequence stars with convective cores. Aims: we aim to compose a catalog of intermediate-mass stars in the TESS southern continuous viewing zone to reveal period-spacing patterns caused by gravity modes for use in future asteroseismic modeling. Methods: TESS full frame images were inspected to select stars of intermediate- and high-mass using color-magnitude criteria. Light curves were extracted from custom masks per star, adopting stringent constraints on the aperture masks and contamination. The extracted light curves were subject to iterative prewhitening to detect gravity modes. We developed a method based on the assumption that period spacings are an approximately linear function of the mode periods to build a template pattern. This template was used to extract the patterns and their bootstrap uncertainties. Results: our TESS catalog of high-quality period-spacing patterns is the first of its kind and contains 140 gravity-mode patterns in 106 Gamma Doradus stars and 2 slowly pulsating B-type stars. Half of these patterns contain 7 or more measured mode periods and the longest pattern contains 20 modes. We provide the community with a convenient software tool to search for period-spacing patterns and to process the extracted light curves. The Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S$^{4}$G) is a detailed study of over 2300 nearby galaxies in the near-infrared (NIR), which has been critical to our understanding of the detailed structures of nearby galaxies. Because the sample galaxies were selected only using radio-derived velocities, however, the survey favored late-type disk galaxies over lenticulars and ellipticals. A follow-up Spitzer survey was conducted to rectify this bias, adding 465 early-type galaxies (ETGs) to the original sample, to be analyzed in a manner consistent with the initial survey. We present the data release of this ETG extension, up to the third data processing pipeline (P3): surface photometry. We produce curves of growth and radial surface brightness profiles (with and without inclination corrections) using reduced and masked Spitzer IRAC 3.6$\mu$m and 4.5$\mu$m images produced through Pipelines 1 and 2, respectively. From these profiles, we derive the following integrated quantities: total magnitudes, stellar masses, concentration parameters, and galaxy size metrics. We showcase NIR scaling relations for ETGs among these quantities. We examine general trends across the whole S$^{4}$G and ETG extension among our derived parameters, highlighting differences between ETGs and late-type galaxies (LTGs). ETGs are, on average, more massive and more concentrated than LTGs, and also show subtle distinctions among ETG morphological sub-types. We also derive the following scaling relations and compare with previous results in visible light: mass--size (both half-light and isophotal), mass--concentration, mass--surface brightness (central, effective, and within 1 kpc), and mass--color. We find good agreement with previous works, though some relations (e.g., mass--central surface brightness) will require more careful multi-component decompositions to be fully understood., Comment: 25 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

23. The multifarious ionization sources and disturbed kinematics of extraplanar gas in five low-mass galaxies

We investigate the origin of the extraplanar diffuse ionized gas (eDIG) and its predominant ionization mechanisms in five nearby (17-46 Mpc) low-mass ($10^9\text{-}10^{10}$ $M_{\odot}$) edge-on disk galaxies: ESO 157-49, ESO 469-15, ESO 544-27, IC 217, and IC 1553. We acquired Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) integral field spectroscopy and deep narrowband H$\alpha$ imaging of our sample galaxies. To investigate the connection between in-plane star formation and eDIG, we perform a photometric analysis of our narrowband H$\alpha$ imaging. We measure eDIG scale heights of $h_{z\text{eDIG}} = 0.59 \text{-} 1.39$ kpc and find a positive correlation between them and specific star formation rates. In all galaxies, we also find a strong correlation between extraplanar and midplane radial H$\alpha$ profiles. Using our MUSE data, we investigate the origin of eDIG via kinematics. We find ionized gas rotation velocity lags above the midplane with values between 10 and 27 km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$. While we do find hints of an accretion origin for the ionized gas in ESO 157-49, IC 217, and IC 1553, overall the ionized gas kinematics of our galaxies do not match a steady galaxy model or any simplistic model of accretion or internal origin for the gas. We also construct standard diagnostic diagrams and emission-line maps (EW(H$\alpha$), [NII]/H$\alpha$, [SII]//H$\alpha$, [OIII]/H$\beta$) and find regions consistent with mixed OB star and hot low-mass evolved stars (HOLMES) ionization, and mixed OB-shock ionization. Our results suggest that OB stars are the primary driver of eDIG ionization, while both HOLMES and shocks may locally contribute to the ionization of eDIG to a significant degree. Context. There is currently a niche for providing high-cadence, high resolution, time-series optical spectroscopy from space, which can be filled by using a low-cost cubesat mission. The Belgian-led ESA CubeSpec mission is specifically designed to provide space-based, low-cost spectroscopy with specific capabilities that can be optimised for a particular science need. Approved as an ESA in-orbit demonstrator, the CubeSpec satellite's primary science objective will focus on obtaining high-cadence, high resolution optical spectroscopic data to facilitate asteroseismology of pulsating massive stars. Aims. In this first paper, we aim to search for pulsating massive stars suitable for the CubeSpec mission, specifically $\beta$ Cep stars, which typically require time series spectroscopy to identify the geometry of their pulsation modes. Methods. Based on the science requirements needed to enable asteroseismology of massive stars with the capabilities of CubeSpec's spectrograph, we combine a literature study for pulsation with the analysis of recent high-cadence time series TESS photometry to classify the variability for stars brighter than V < 4 mag and between O9 and B3 in spectral type. Results. Among the 90 stars that meet our magnitude and spectral type requirements, we identify 23 promising $\beta$ Cep stars with high-amplitude (non-)radial pulsation modes with frequencies below 7 d$^{-1}$. Using further constraints on projected rotational velocities, pulsation amplitudes and number of pulsation modes, we devise a prioritised target list for the CubeSpec mission according to its science requirements and the potential of the targets for asteroseismology. The purpose of this study was to determine the experience, prevalence, and risk indicators (socioeconomic, sociodemographic, and dental variables) of coronal and root caries in older persons residing in nursing homes in Mexico.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in 227 dentate participants with natural teeth. Convenience sample, where all dentate residents were invited to participate. The dependent variables were coronal caries and root caries, which were determined through an oral clinical examination. The independent variables were sociodemographic factors, location, type of center, surfaces free of dental biofilm and calculus, surfaces with recession, retainers in contact with surfaces with recession, xerostomia, smoking, and the previous use of dental services. The binary logistic regression model was used in the analysis.Results: The mean age of the participants in this study was 77.7± 8.8 years, and 69.2% were women. Moreover, 71.8% live in long-term care facilities, and 48.0% live in Mexico City. The prevalence of coronal and root caries was found to be 67.8% and 50.7%, respectively. Being male and living in Mexico City were risk indicators for coronal caries, and with a 1% increase in surfaces with no biofilm, the risk decreased by 2%. Being widowed, having government or no social security, denture retainers, and coronal caries were risk indicators for root caries, while the utilization of dental services indicated lower risk.Conclusion: Several variables that differ in nature were found to be risk indicators for coronal and root caries. Coronal caries increases the risk of root caries. Prevention should be aimed at identifying persons at higher risk, and dental care should be improved for persons living in long-term care institutions.Keywords: root caries, dental caries, institutionalization, adult, cross-sectional study, prevalence, risk indicators

In a graph $G$, a vertex dominates itself and its neighbours. A subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ is said to be a double dominating set of $G$ if $S$ dominates every vertex of $G$ at least twice. The minimum cardinality among all double dominating sets of $G$ is the double domination number. In this article, we obtain tight bounds and closed formulas for the double domination number of lexicographic product graphs $G\circ H$ in terms of invariants of the factor graphs $G$ and $H$.

A key aspect of the design of evolutionary and swarm intelligence algorithms is studying their performance. Statistical comparisons are also a crucial part which allows for reliable conclusions to be drawn. In the present paper we gather and examine the approaches taken from different perspectives to summarise the assumptions made by these statistical tests, the conclusions reached and the steps followed to perform them correctly. In this paper, we conduct a survey on the current trends of the proposals of statistical analyses for the comparison of algorithms of computational intelligence and include a description of the statistical background of these tests. We illustrate the use of the most common tests in the context of the Competition on single-objective real parameter optimisation of the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC) 2017 and describe the main advantages and drawbacks of the use of each kind of test and put forward some recommendations concerning their use., Comment: 52 pages, 10 figures, 19 tables
