Se analizaron diferencias fenotípicas en el desarrollo y distribución de raíces en condiciones de sequía de 16 genotipos de fríjol común. Se desarrolló un método utilizando tubos plásticos transparentes insertados en otros de PVC, llenos de mezcla de suelo con arena (2:1, peso:peso), en condiciones de invernadero. 10 días después de emergencia se impusieron dos tratamientos de suministro hídrico: 80% de capacidad de campo (sin estrés) y sin aplicación de agua (para inducir estrés). Durante el ensayo se determinó contenido total de clorofila en hoja y tasa de transpiración. A la cosecha (32 días después de siembra) se determinó: área foliar, biomasas aéreas, contenido de carbohidratos totales no estructurales (CTN) en hojas y tallos. El suelo de los tubos fue dividido en cinco estratos de profundidad. Raíces en cada profundidad se lavaron determinándose su longitud, diámetro promedio y biomasa seca. Se utilizó un diseño experimental de bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones. El método resultó apropiado para determinar diferencias fenotípicas en longitud total y longitud específica de raíces y distribución de raíces a diferentes profundidades. Las líneas BAT 477, SEA 5 y SER 16 destacaron por su desempeño general en la producción de raíces bajo estrés por sequía.

CuS nanoparticles (Np) were synthesized and deposited on synthetic sphalerite (SP) using two different methods. Two nanoparticle products were obtained on the surface of SP, Np1 and Np2, resulting in two active materials (Np1-SP and Np2-SP) with specific characteristics. Nanoparticles and active materials were characterized by TEM, XRD, SEM, and XPS. The collectors PAX and SIPX were adsorbed on Np1-SP and Np2-SP to determine the adsorption capacity. Method 1 provides a higher quantity of nanoparticles on SP, which allows for the adsorption of a higher amount of SIPX. Method 1 was used to deposit nanoparticles on two natural sphalerites (SN) with different iron contents. SN, unlike SP, can be used to test nanoparticle activation results in microflotation experiments. SN was activated with nanoparticles (Np1-SN) and using the traditional method (Cu-SN). The recovery of 75% of zinc using the microflotation process suggests that the hydrophobicity of Np1-SN is higher than that of Cu-SN. Nanoparticles improve the hydrophobicity of SN compared to the traditional activation used in the mining industry. These results suggest that using nanoparticles is an excellent option to activate minerals in flotation processes, decreasing the consumption of reagents and helping to mitigate negative impacts on the environment. Background/Objectives: Although increased nociceptive excitability and deficient endogenous pain modulation are considered key features of pronociception and central sensitization, their contribution to neuropathic pain (NP) characteristics in SCI is unclear. The aim of this study was to characterize tonic cold perception and endogenous pain modulation in individuals with and without SCI-NP, considering the stage and severity of SCI and, secondarily, NP phenotype. Methods: Temporal summation of pain (TSP) and neuropathic features were assessed using the numerical rating scale (NRS) and Douleur Neuropathique 4 screening questionnaire (DN4) during the tonic cold pressor test (CPT, 12 °C 60 s) applied to the dominant hand and foot. CPT-induced pronociception was assessed as change in algometer pressure pain thresholds (PPTs) measured at the V2, C6, and L4 dermatomes. Results: A total of 72 individuals were recruited (age-sex-matched noninjured, n = 24; SCI-NP, n = 24; SCI-noNP, n = 24 [AIS A: n = 12, AIS B-D: n = 12; subacute SCI: n = 12, chronic SCI: n = 12]). TSP in response to the foot CPT was higher in subacute compared to chronic incomplete SCI-NP, while TSP to the hand CPT was significantly higher in chronic compared to the subacute complete SCI-NP group. Evoked pain intensity during the hand CPT correlated with duration of below-level SCI-NP. The hand CPT induced widespread pronociception (lower PPT), which correlated with 7-day non-evoked (spontaneous) pain intensity in individuals with incomplete SCI-NP. Individuals with below-level NP, but not at-level NP, showed higher TSP during the foot CPT and greater hand CPT-induced L4 dermatome pronociception. Conclusions: Collectively, measurements of above and below-level temporal summation of pain and translesional-induced pronociception in the SCI-NP group highlight the role of these mechanisms in widespread central sensitization, spontaneous pain intensity, and spinothalamic tract hyperexcitability, especially in individuals diagnosed with below-level NP. Background: A subset of patients with bipolar disorder (BD) develop a midlife cognitive/behavioral decline that overlaps with the clinical features of behavioral variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD). Several case reports and case series have described different clinical features and outcomes of a frontal cognitive/behavioral decline in patients with history of BD. Given that this presentation is scarcely reported, a first step to better characterize this specific condition is to perform an evidence synthesis report. Objective: This scoping review protocol aims to describe whether patients with history of BD who later develop a dementia syndrome with frontal cognitive/behavioral decline exhibit different clinical features and patterns of progression. Information sources: Studies will be retrieved from MEDLINE (PubMed), PsychINFO, EMBASE and Google Scholar, no other sources will be considered. Inclusion criteria: Studies describing patients with an established diagnosis of BD preceding a later development of dementia with frontal cognitive/behavioral decline. Exclusion criteria: Studies written in languages different than Spanish or English or French that could not be appropriately translated, or whose full text files could not be retrieved, and studies describing manic or BD symptoms, but not an antecedent history consistent with bipolar disorder, as a clear prodrome of bvFTD diagnosis. Data will be extracted by two researchers and verified by agreement. This protocol complies with the PRISMA-P, PRISMA ScR and JBI manual for evidence synthesis scoping review guidelines. Within the frame of cultural relativism and transcultural care, this work aims to globally approach the phenomenon of healers or quakers and “folk care”, and understand their coexistence with highly qualified health care systems; to find out the profile, methods and rites that are used, some common features among healers and the motives and experiences of those who have sought for their help. In order to document and complete this descriptive ethnography, a questionnaire was designed and handed out by means of an interview to seven people who have used the services of healers within the province of Jaén. Amongst the relevant results are the thoughtful and respectful manners of the healers and their interest for the person. The healers surround themselves of a religious-mystic atmosphere and use the laying on of hands and herbs. We can conclude that the coexistence of traditional methods with a modern health system is mutually enriching, provides differentiating elements to the patient’s care and, so far, in certain circles, it does not seem bound to disappear.
