Building with wood is an emerging industry that can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and help to unlock the low-carbon, circular economy. By maximising the use of wood in new buildings and renovation through optimal hybrid solutions with other materials, the built environment can be transformed into a large-scale carbon sink. However, unlocking the potential of wood as both a sustainable building material and climate solution (the ‘forest-carbon-pump’) requires a stronger focus on the regional dimensions of wood construction chains and the whole innovation ecosystem. Region-al characteristics are not yet sufficiently accounted for in the European and national policy initiatives and programmes. National and regional initiatives are focussed on their context and are still rather disconnected from the European level. Hence, for example European funding programmes are not well geared towards the needs of wood construction industries. The H2020 project BASAJAUN aims to build the foundation of an open innovation platform for the wood construction ecosystem, which can foster dialogue and co-creation between European regions. The platform shall showcase innovations, demo buildings and other solutions, and support their exploi-tation in the regional forest-based sector. In this report, a competitive assessment of five pilot regions is described: i) North Ostrobothnia and ii) North Karelia in Finland, iii) New Aquitaine in France, iv) West Pomerania in Poland, and v) the Basque country in Spain. Each pilot region is described in a background profile that summarizes available information about the regional context, the forest resources and management, its wood construction chain and market trends, and policy programmes. Each region is presented in a value chain stakeholder map and a SWOT analysis, pointing to challenges and possibili-ties for regional transformation. A set of preliminary conclusions summarises the options for regional roadmaps to be explored with stakeholders in the open platform. The first accomplishment is the foundation of the Wood Sector Alliance for the New European Bauhaus (Wood4Bauhaus), a coalition of the main EU wood sector umbrella organisations, connecting research, industry and trade unions, which was launched in response to the European Commission’s New Euro-pean Bauhaus movement. Wooden construction has great development potential in Europe and in the world. It is based on a renewable and inexhaustible source of raw material, which is wood. However, this potential is still not fully exploited, while broader use of wood in construction could bring significant benefits, not only in environmental but also in social and economic terms. Innovative technologies that allow rapid construction of energy-efficient wooden buildings, including multi-storey, are a great opportunity for wooden construction development. Therefore, it is important to foster building with wood, indicate the opportunities it brings and its benefits, but also take into account the barriers limiting its development. The aim of the report was to prepare guidelines for fostering wooden building and to indicate conditions of its development. The report covered: ��� indication of major development opportunities for wooden construction in Europe and in the world, taking into account technical, political, economic and societal aspects, ��� identification of significant barriers inhibiting the development of the use of wood in construction, including its weaknesses and threats in the technical, political, economic and societal context, ��� assessment of the potential of using recycled wood in the construction sector, including estimating the potential supply of post-consumer wood waste and wood by-products, ��� gathering examples of best practices in wood recycling in different countries based on case studies, ��� basic characteristics of the regulatory framework and operational environment for recycled wooden products in chosen countries of the project partners, ��� identification of key economic, social, environmental and technical benefits of using wood and wood products in construction., BASAJAUN is a European innovation action about sustainable building with wood. The main objective is to demonstrate how wood construction chains can be optimized to foster both rural development and urban transformation whilst being connected with sustainable forest management in Europe. The consortium comprises 29 partners from 12 countries including 8 leading research and technology organizations, 3 universities, 15 companies and 4 other public and sectoral organizations. The project is coordinated by the Tecnalia Research and Innovation Foundation in Spain and has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 862942.

9 páginas., Superconducting films of the Bi ¾ Sr ¾ Ca ¾ Cu ¾ O family of oxides were prepared by electrodeposition of the constituent metals followed by an oxidative thermal treatment. The influence of water, stirring of the electrolyte, cleaning of the substrate, and deposition time on the quality of the films were studied. Before the thermal treatment, the electrodeposited films consisted of a mixture of different metals and carbonates of the constituent elements. The oxidation of the metallic phases and the decomposition of the carbonates occurred in the ranges 260 ¾ 280 °C and 400 ¾ 470 °C, respectively. The final oxides were obtained after an oxidative thermal treatment of 800 °C. Lower temperatures were not sufficient for the preparation of the superconducting oxide films. The prepared Bi-2201 films consisted of a mixture of two phases with different strontium, bismuth, and oxygen content. The Bi-2212 films were composed of platelike particles with a preference to orientate along the (001) direction. These films showed critical temperatures up to 92 K and critical current densities up to 15,000 A/cm2 (at 77 K and zero field) when the films were pressed before the thermal treatment.
