Abstract

Purpose As radiation therapy is widely used for the management of pancreatic cancer, identifying novel targets to improve the radiosensitivity of cancer cells is beneficial. Rosiglitazone, a specific peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) agonist, has an inhibitory effect on various types of cancer cells. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of rosiglitazone on the radiosensitivity of pancreatic cancer cells and the potential mechanism. Materials and Methods PPARγ expression in pancreatic cancer and adjacent tissues was evaluated using immunohistochemistry analysis. The viability, migration and invasion ability of PANC1 and PaTu8988 cells were detected using MTT assay, scratch-wound assay and transwell invasion assay. The effect of rosiglitazone on radiosensitivity of the cells was determined using the clonogenic assay. PANC1 cells were inoculated into BALB/c mice to establish tumors. Microarray was used to investigate changes of genes involved. Results Higher PPARγ expression was demonstrated in pancreatic cancer tissues compared with para-carcinoma tissues. Rosiglitazone inhibited the cell viability and enhanced the radiation-induced anti-migration and anti-invasion effect. Rosiglitazone potentiated the radiosensitivity of pancreatic cancer cells and PANC1 xenografts. Microarray analysis revealed that rosiglitazone plus radiation altered the expression of multiple genes and affected multiple pathways. Conclusion Rosiglitazone enhances the radiosensitivity of human pancreatic cancer cells in vitro and in vivo via complex mechanisms.

Abstract

The combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) microgrid organically combines the CCHP technology and the microgrid technology that integrates renewable power generation. Considering the energy flow characteristics and energy balance of the co-supply microgrid, this paper proposes a multi-time scale coordinated and optimized scheduling method, aiming at the economic operation of the co-supply microgrid under the grid-connected operation mode. For cold/thermal loads with stable supply and demand, a day-ahead economic dispatch model for cold and thermal energy is established, and the particle swarm algorithm is used to solve the model; for real-time fluctuating electric loads, a heuristic energy dispatch strategy is formulated. The simulation and analysis conducted in an industrial park in the north of China have verified the feasibility and economic efficiency of the strategy.

Abstract

A mixed‐surfactant‐assisted method was developed to synthesize dual‐phase Li4Ti5O12‐TiO2 hierarchical microspheres. The ratio of anionic/cationic surfactant could regulate the primary structure morphology and the dual‐phase ratio of the final product, in which the primary structure morphology could be stacked nanosheets, small nanoparticles, or large nanoparticles. The sample with a primary structure morphology of small nanoparticles had the highest specific surface area of 79.38 m2 g−1 and the best electrochemical performance because of its high Li+ migration rate, low polarization, and appropriate TiO2 content. Its capacity reached 153.5 mA h g−1 at a current rate of 40 C, and it retained nearly 100 % of its capacity after 100 cycles. A self‐assembly mechanism of the mixed surfactant was highlighted to explain the formation of hierarchical microspheres. 28. Crystallization of Ammonium Persulfate in the Presence of an Additive: Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Studies.

Abstract

Abstract: Binding energy effects have been considered the main cause behind additives hindering crystal growth. In this study, the effects of the diffusion coefficient between the additive and the crystal surface is further investigated. The influence of the additive sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) on the morphology of ammonium persulfate (APS) crystals is investigated in both experimental procedures and molecular dynamics simulation studies. It is observed that the growth of (10‐2) surface is more significantly inhibited by the addition of SDBS than is the formation of (11‐1) surface, which contributes to an elongated morphology of the APS crystal. The mechanisms of this effect are examined by performing a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The interaction energy and the diffusion coefficient during crystal growth are calculated. 30. Leaching of silica from vanadium-bearing steel slag in sodium hydroxide solution.

Abstract

The kinetics of the liquid-solid reaction between vanadium-bearing steel slag from Hebei province, China and sodium hydroxide were investigated including the effects of particle size, solid-to-liquid ratio, sodium hydroxide concentration and leaching temperature. In the leaching process, the reaction rate was found to be sensitive to both particle size and temperature, the solubility increasing with increasing reaction temperature and decreasing particle size. The leaching kinetics conforms to a shrinking-core model with the surface chemical reaction as the rate-controlling step. The activation energy of the process was found to be 36.4 kJ/mol. By leaching vanadium-bearing steel slag in 40 wt.% sodium hydroxide solution at 240 degrees C, the silica in the original vanadium slag can be selectively leached to give a residue with a low SiO2 content (4.28%) and a high V2O5 content (11.15%), along with partial dissolution of Al and slight dissolution of Cr, Mn and Ti.
