Volcanic rock reservoirs for oil and gas are known worldwide for their considerable heterogeneity. Micropores and fractures play vital roles in the storage and transportation of natural gas. Samples from volcanic reservoirs in Songliao Basin, CS1 and W21, belonging to the Changling fault depression and the Wangfu fault depression, respectively, have similar lithology. This study employs micro–nano CT scanning technology to systematically identify the key parameters and transport capacities of natural gas within volcanic reservoirs. Using Avizo 2020.1software, a 3D digital representation of rock core was reconstructed to model pore distribution, connectivity, pore–throat networks, and fractures. These models are then analyzed to evaluate pore/throat structures and fractures alongside microscopic parameters. The relationship between micropore–throat structure parameters and permeability was investigated by microscale gas flow simulations and Pearson correlation analyses. The results showed that the CS1 sample significantly exceeded the W21 sample in terms of pore connectivity and permeability, with connected pore volume, throat count, and specific surface area being more than double that of the W21 sample. Pore–throat parameters are decisive for natural gas storage and transport. Additionally, based on seepage simulation and the pore–throat model, the specific influence of pore–throat structure parameters on permeability in volcanic reservoirs was quantified. In areas with well–developed fractures, gas seepage pathways mainly follow fractures, significantly improving gas flow efficiency. The ecological and environmental problems of arid zones have become an urgent global concern. Current research on ecological risk is based mainly on the dominant functions of land use, with a primary focus on land use landscape projections and less consideration of potential risks to ecosystems, system resilience and interactions between nature and future sustainable development. In this study, a potential–connectivity–resilience ecological risk assessment model based on the SDGs was constructed using multisource data to spatially quantify indicators at the grid scale in the Turpan and Hami regions of Xinjiang, China. This model was used as a basis for studying ecological risk in arid zones from a production–living–ecological space (PLES) perspective. The results revealed that, during the period 2000–2020, PLESs in the Turpan and Hami regions presented significant spatial similarity, with an increasing trend in overall risk. The production space in the Turpan and Hami regions showed a parabolic trend of increasing and then decreasing, whereas the living space and ecological space in the Hami region showed continuous linear upward trends. The state of ecological security in the Turpan and Hami regions is gradually deteriorating, and comprehensive ecological protection and restoration measures are urgently needed to rationally allocate the structure and layout of the production-–living-–ecological space. The study of ecological risk from a PLES perspective not only helps in fully understanding the development trend of the arid zone; it also provides new ideas and methods for evaluating regional ecological environmental safety and scientific references for formulating regional sustainable development, ecological risk prevention and control and the rational allocation of resources. The induction of beige adipocytes in white adipose tissue (WAT), also known as WAT beiging, improves glucose and lipid metabolism. However, the regulation of WAT beiging at the posttranscriptional level remains to be studied. Here, we report that METTL3, the methyltransferase of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) mRNA modification, is induced during WAT beiging in mice. Adipose-specific depletion of the Mettl3 gene undermines WAT beiging and impairs the metabolic capability of mice fed with a high-fat diet. Mechanistically, METTL3-catalyzed m6A installation on thermogenic mRNAs, including Krüppel-like factor 9 (Klf9), prevents their degradation. Activation of the METTL3 complex by its chemical ligand methyl piperidine-3-carboxylate promotes WAT beiging, reduces body weight, and corrects metabolic disorders in diet-induced obese mice. These findings uncover a novel epitranscriptional mechanism in WAT beiging and identify METTL3 as a potential therapeutic target for obesity-associated diseases. Most proteins are derived from the translation of coding sequence (CDS) in messenger RNAs (mRNAs). However, accumulating evidence has revealed an unexpected abundance of translation in putative non‐coding genomes, especially 5′ untranslated region (5′ UTR) of mRNAs or non‐coding RNA species (ncRNA) such as long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs). Notably, many of these UTR‐ or ncRNA‐encoded micropeptides/proteins play important roles in human malignancies. In this review, we describe recent advances in our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the translation of non‐coding regions or ncRNAs and the methods to discover the hidden coding information. Furthermore, we summarize the biological functions of UTR‐ or ncRNA‐encoded micropeptides/proteins in cancers and discuss their potential as clinical biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and as therapeutic targets for cancer treatment.
